AMOROUS -- Maggie Amorous passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2003, in Albuquerque. Born in San Diego on January 30, 1912, she was the daughter of Herb and Alice (Kilty) Barnum. She attended schools in San Diego and Immaculate Heart College in San Antonio, Texas. In 1932, she married William W. Amorous in San Antonio. She is survived by her loving children, Bill (Betsy) Amorous of Santa Fe, Angela (Don) Lodin of Santa Ana, California, Martin Amorous of Huntsville, Texas and Isabel (Jeff Greinke) Amorous of Tucson, Arizona; eight grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters. The family lived in seven states during Col. Amorous' service in the US Army Air Corps and later the USAF, eventually settling in Albuquerque in the early 1950's. Maggie volunteered as a Gray Lady during WWII; as a counselor for AA; and at St. Francis Home. The love of Maggie's life was the game of golf, which she pursued until her vision began to fail recently. Maggie continued her study of spiritual issues, and touched many lives. She will be missed by her family, friends, and her circle of fellow golfers. Services will be held privately.

She is survived by 3 brothers, Ernest Casaus and wife, Crucita, Gilbert Casaus and wife, Ramona, Ruben Casaus and wife, Carmen; one grandson, Angelo Pacheco; numerous family and friends who loved and will miss her. BRANSON -- Esther Branson, 82, a resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, October 3, 2003. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Chuck Branson of Albuquerque; daughters, Nancy Martin of Roseville, CA and Kathy Doles and husband Paul of Seattle, WA; son, Tom Branson and wife Carla of Albuquerque, NM; 9 grandchildren, Tammy and partner Donny, Nicholas and wife Casey, Betsy and husband Mike, Meghann, Willy and wife Aimee, Angela and husband Shane, Jeremy, Summer and husband Jim, Cheri and husband Mike; 10 great-grandchildren, Katarina, Jade Corrie, Chris, Aubrianna, Travis, Shea, Nicole, Laura, Brian and Justin; brother, James Herbert Leach and wife Norma of Denver, CO and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Louise Street and brother-in-law, Edwin Street. She was born in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1921. She served during WWII in the United States Army at Los Alamos, NM. Upon her discharge she moved to Albuquerque. For many years she worked at Lukens Real Estate as a receptionist. She was a beloved wife, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and played in the hand bell choir for 19 years. CALDWELL -- Joshua Michael Caldwell passed away September 30, 2003 in Gainesville, Florida. He was born on December 14, 1982 in Lancaster, California. He is survived by his parents, Michael and Stephanie; grandmother, Ruby Caldwell; aunts and uncles; Janice and Ray Bailey, Stacy and Jim Watkins, Shelly Palmer, Shauna and Kenneth Zaas, Sharon Johnson, Erik and Verna Cook; and 16 cousins. CARLIN -- Elizabeth M. (Betty) died peacefully at home on Thursday, October 2, 2003. She was born on June 18, 1924, in Nashville, TN, to the late Charles and Elizabeth McMurry. She had been a resident of New Mexico for more than forty years. Betty will be remembered especially for her years of dedicated work with mentally-ill patients in hospitals from New Jersey to Oregon. She was honored by the Albuquerque community for her compassionate volunteer service with Lovelace Hospice. Betty believed in people and she practiced unconditional love. She was the center of a large extended family and had many "best friends." Her zest for life made every day an adventure. She was an artist and sculptor, a published poet, an award-winning newspaper food columnist and gourmet cook, an avid gambler, and the hands-on designer/ builder of two different homes. Betty was also a world traveler: from the calm blue Mediterranean Greek Islands to the Perlas Islands of Panama to white water rafting down the Colorado River Gorge. She is survived by her three sons Robert W. Thacher and wife, Kristin, of Sandia Park, NM, R. Mac Thacher and wife, Peggy, of New Lisbon, NJ, James L. Thacher and wife, Jewell Lee, of Kennett Square, PA; grandchildren Jonathan Thacher, Adam Thacher, Joanna Thacher, Lindsey Thacher, and Shannon Thacher; sister Jean M. Crowther and husband Allan; brother William and wife Shige; numerous nieces and nephews; and an extraordinary extended family of loving friends. The family would like to extend sincere appreciation and gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at Lovelace Hospital for their special care and support. CHOWNING -- Mary Louise Chowning, 83, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, October 5, 2003. COLE-SHELTON -- Margaret "Ann" Cole-Shelton, 75, went home to the Lord on Sunday, October 5, 2003. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Ann was born in Miami, FL on January 21, 1928. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Cole in 1993 and Joseph Shelton. Ann is survived by her daughters, Donna Cole of Albuquerque and Pamela Norris and husband, Bob of Pacific Grove, CA; grandchildren, Ensign Michael Cole Norris of Pensacola, FL and Lauren Ashley Norris of Pacific Grove, CA. She is also survived by her twin sister, Marge of Florida; and her brother, Jack of California; as well as many nieces and nephews. Ann was very active in the Kirtland Chapel, PWOC, and Thrift Shop. She enjoyed travel, spending time with family and friends, and her canine companion, Tilly. All those who loved her will miss her kindness and gentle spirit. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2003, at 4:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, with Chaplain Donald Harlin and Chaplain Amy Hunt officiating. GARCIA -- Manuelita (Molly) L.C. Herrera, born in Gallup, New Mexico on August 14, 1922, entered into eternal life on October 5, 2003. She was affectionately known as Molly. She raised six children to adulthood. Molly was a loving and giving lady. She helped all in need and always visited the sick, bringing with her flowers. She always said, "Flowers are for the living. If I am going to get flowers, I want them now while I am living." She is survived by her husband, Sirilo Garcia of the family home; and her brothers, Jose, Henry and Tony Cuellar of Albuquerque. She will be missed by her devoted friends of many years, Eva Padilla, Grace Gutierrez, Reverend Lucille Richardson, and Eloy and Helen Vera. GAUNA -- Isabell "Belle" Gauna, 72, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2003. She is survived by her children, Linda Gauna Billings, Charles Gauna and wife, Laura, Debra Jansen and husband, James; and grandsons, David and Richard, Gerald Gauna and wife, Mary Rose and grandson, Alejandro; and granddaughter, Yolanda, Philip Gauna and wife, Becky; and daughter, Madeline, Greg Gauna and his son, Stephen. Her mother is Susan Sisneros; and her siblings, Margaret Twombly and husband, Louis, Pete Sisneros and wife, Rosa, Pauline Gomez and husband, Ernest, Irene Mendoza and husband, Mike, Rose Turnbell and husband, Richard, and Dennis Sisneros and wife, Anna. Mrs. Gauna was preceded in death by her loving husband, William "Bill"; her infant granddaughter, Rachel Gauna; and her father, Pete Sisneros. Belle's life revolved around her children and she was happiest when they were all together, laughing and enjoying the closeness they shared. Belle and Bill instilled strong family values that will endure forever. Belle loved gardening, decorating, traveling, entertaining, shopping, bowling and fishing. GRAHAM -- Leslie (Les) Wayne Graham, MAGOO, 53, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on October 4, 2003. Magoo is survived by his parents, Charles (Chick) and Jean Graham; his brothers, Larry Graham and Terry Graham; his uncle, Howard Graham; two aunts, Geneva Anderson and Mary Edlemon; his nephew Alex; numerous cousins;Care Bear and family; his stepchildren, Donna and Michael; and numerous friends. Magoo was a member of the Banditos Motorcycle Club Worldwide and a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam Era. JANOVEK -- Elsie Janovek, 96, a resident of Albuquerque for the past 29 years, and came to New Mexico from the Island of Trinidad, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2003. Elsie was born December 15, 1906 on the island of Trinidad. She was a devoted member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Elsie had been a seamstress, purchasing agent, homemaker, gourmet chef, and dear friend to those around her. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Vendilin Janovek; and her two sisters, Lillian Harris, and Albertina Foxwell in May of 2003; brothers, George, William, Eugene, and Edgar Harris. She is survived by two nieces, Geraldine A. Dougherty and husband, Tom, and Marjorie A. Robinson; sister-in-law, Dorothy Harris. She will be dearly missed by close friends, Pauline, Mel, Keith, and Todd Eisenstadt. A Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. with the Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at 11:00 a.m., today, Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Rio Rancho. LUCERO -- Raymundo M. Lucero, age 67, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, Monday, October 6, 2003. Ray was born in Bernalillo, NM and was a resident of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sigfredo and Beatrice Lucero; a brother, Dickie Lucero. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Amantina Lucero of the family home; his children, Raymundo Jr. and wife Sandra of Rio Rancho, Billy of Albuquerque, Joe and wife Rose Mary of Albuquerque, Martin and wife Liz of Walnut Creek, CA, David and fiancee, Donna of Albuquerque, Debra Chavez and husband, Michael of Rio Rancho, Grace Lucero and Fiance, Willie Martinez of Rio Rancho, Lisa Pino and husband, Gilbert of Bernalillo; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. MADSEN -- William Madsen, a resident of Albuquerque for 53 years, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2003. William was the owner and operator of Madsen Carpet Service for 30 years. He enjoyed working around the family home. As a veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marietta Madsen; son, Gary Madsen of Amarillo, TX; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. MARTINEZ -- Jesusita Martinez, 90, a lifetime resident of New Mexico, died Friday, October 3, 2003. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvino Carriaga and Jacoba Gutierrez-Carriaga. Mrs. Martinez was also preceded in death by her husband, Guillermo Martinez in 1990 and her son, Guillermo "Billy" Martinez in 1998. She is survived by her daughters, Martha Elizabeth Martinez, Edna Martinez Schroeder and Marie Trujillo; a granddaughter, Ana Schroeder; sisters, Virginia C. Casares and Sarah Grimm, all of Albuquerque; a special niece, Veronica Trujillo, many other nieces and nephews of the Carriaga family, special friend Renee Wood and son in-law, Henry Schroeder. Mrs. Martinez was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a long-time member of El Buen Samaritano Methodist Church where she was active in Las Mujeres Methodistas and where she taught Children's Sunday School for many years. MCCRORY -- Mr. Wayne Charles McCrory died on October 3, 2003 in Las Vegas, NV. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marie of Henderson, NV; daughters, Maureen Gilgan and Patricia McCrory of Las Vegas, NV; son, Michael of Beaverton, OR; daughter, Kathleen Campbell of Albuquerque; and five grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Russell, Zachery and Shannon. MEYER JR. -- William J. Meyer, Jr. (Billy), a lifelong resident of Santa Fe, died October 2, 2003 of acute leukemia. A healthy, robust man, he had no knowledge of his leukemia until a few days before his death. He spent the last weekend of his life with his wife, Debra, celebrating their anniversary in the mountains of Colorado and enjoying one of his favorite sports, fishing, before he suffered the sudden onset of the fatal disease. Billy's life centered around the family home on Delgado Street. His family can trace its roots in Santa Fe back to the late 1800s. Billy graduated from St. Michael's High School in 1974 and attended UNM, where he played on the football team, and Adams State College, where he was on the wrestling team. He married Debra on September 18, 1981, in the family home. Billy was the manager of the Meyer family properties. Besides working and being with his family, Billy loved being outdoors camping and fishing. He especially loved fly-fishing. He was a member of the St. Francis Cathedral parish. Billy was preceded in death by his mother, Mary J. Meyer. His survivors include his wife, Debra, of Santa Fe; sons, Billy, a student at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Guy, a student at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado; father, William, and his companion, Betty Wilde, of Sun City West, Arizona; sisters, Lynn Meyer-Davis and her husband, Lawton, of Albuquerque, Debbie Doe and her husband, Brian, of La Junta, Colorado, Michelle Meyer of Santa Fe, Amy Pitzer and her husband, Tom, of Delta Junction, Alaska; mother-in-law, Margaret Casados of Santa Fe; brother-in-law, Pat Casados and wife, Irma, of La Mesilla; sisters-in law, Margaret Trujillo and husband, Manuel, of La Mesilla; and sister-in-law, Ellen Casados, of San Diego. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and two grand-nieces and three grand-nephews. Billy was a well-known and loved member of the Santa Fe community and is also survived by numerous friends and loved ones and by the fish that got away. MITCHELL -- Ivy Farnham Mitchell, 87, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, stepped peacefully into the presence of her Lord, on Saturday, October 4, 2003. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Ida Farnham; brother, Lawrence Lemmel; sister, Myrtle Neel; and son, Donald A. Mitchell. Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her daughters, Carrol James and husband, Ron, Barbara Turley and husband, Bill of Albuquerque; sons, Robert D. Mitchell and wife, Hetty of Burnsville, MN, Walter D. Mitchell and wife, Shannah of Lynnwood, WA; eight grandchildren, Ron Jr. and wife, Tanya, Mitzi and husband, Michael, Patrick and wife, Christy, Christopher, Christy and husband, Tim, Iman and husband, Luke, Brittney and Azrielle; and six great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Jenny, Katelynn, Jubilee, Alex and Wyatt. NALDA -- John Cullier "Cully" Nalda, 43, a resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, October 4, 2003, after a prolonged battle with multiple sclerosis. He is survived by his mother, Nancy Nalda of Albuquerque; father, John Nalda of Albuquerque; brother Scott Nalda and wife, Eileen of Prescott, AZ; niece, Isabella Nalda of Prescott, AZ; uncle, Charles Gentry and wife, Gerry of Castleton, VA; aunt, Helen Elliott of Roswell, NM; aunt, Judy Nalda of Ft. Stanton, NM; and several cousins and many friends. He was born in Roswell, New Mexico, and graduated from high school in Corona, New Mexico. Cully attended New Mexico State from which he graduated in 1983 with a BBA in Finance. He returned to the family ranch in Corona where he resided until moving to Albuquerque. Prior to becoming disabled, Cully enjoyed his passion for riding motorcycles, running, and spending as much time as possible on the ranch where he grew up. He will long be remembered for the fact that through his long illness, he never lost his sense of humor, nor his sense of good cheer. He was a beloved son, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. OJEDA -- Miguel Ojeda, 74, a resident of Albuquerque since 1972, died Sunday, October 5, 2003. PALMER -- Helen G. (Thomas) Palmer, a resident of Albuquerque for 60 years passed away October 4, 2003. She was born on January 13, 1919 in Madison County, Iowa, the eldest child of Floyd Jacob and Lillian (Arnold) Thomas. Her education was received in one-room country schools in Madison County, at Macksburg High School, at Winterset High School, and at Simpson College, where she met her husband of sixty-two years. She taught in the rural one-room schools in Madison and Clarke Counties prior to her marriage on May 25, 1941 to Harry Donald (Don) Palmer. To this union was born two sons. She is survived by her husband, Don Palmer; son, Marvin R. Palmer, M.D. and his daughters, Naomi and Meredith; son, Keith E. Palmer, M.D., and his wife Christine and their children, Jacob, Grace and Andrew. She is also survived by her brothers, Jack Thomas and his wife, Florence and Wayne Thomas and his wife, Donna; sister, Ethyl Jensen and husband, Jim; and also nieces, nephews and many friends. She and Don were early members of the First Methodist Church Two-Som Class. Helen and Don served in sponsorship of youth groups and were members of the Board of Deacons at Immanuel Presbyterian Church. She was very active in neighborhood affairs and helped organize and was past president of the Elder Homestead Neighborhood Association. RECTOR -- Richard E. Rector, 67, a resident of Albuquerque and a former resident of Romeoville, IL, at rest on Monday, October 6, 2003. He is survived by Louise, his wife of 45 years; two daughters: Leslie (Eddie) Ortiz and Elizabeth Rector; and precious grandson, Evan Ortiz, all of Albuquerque; his mother, Thelma (Charlie) Briscoe Beer of Dix, IL; his father, Kelley (Blanche) Rector of Mt. Vernon, IL; three sisters: Dorina (Richard) Knight of Edwardsville, IL, Marcie (Jim) Zweifel of St. Louis, MO and Sharon (Don) Leffler of Mt. TARLETON -- Thomas "Tom" Tarleton passed away peacefully at home in Taos, NM on October 4, 2003. He was born in Elizabethtown, Territory of New Mexico, on October 14, 1902. He was a lifetime resident and rancher in northern New Mexico. After serving in the Army Mounted Engineers, he went to mechanics school in Kansas City. He worked for the Fred Harvey Company and the Park Service at the Grand Canyon, where he met his beloved wife, Toni. When he returned to Taos in 1930 he opened Tarleton Motor Company, which he ran with his father until he started ranching full time in the late 1940s. He was a charter member and fire chief of the Taos Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his wife, Toni, in 1994. Mr. Tarleton is survived by sons, Thomas A. Tarleton and wife, Mary Lou of Taos and G. Michael Tarleton and wife, Anne of Taos; daughter, Nancy T. Feight of Albuquerque; sister, Marion T. Fox of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Kathleen Lerner and husband, Frank of Albuquerque, Thomas J. Tarleton and Michelle Jaschke of Santa Fe, Laura Feight, Lawrence L. Feight and wife, Anita, Christy Tarleton, and Tracy Tarleton, all of Albuquerque; and great-grandchildren, Michael Lerner of Las Cruces, Sarah Lerner, Amanda Griego, and Leslie Feight, all of Albuquerque, and Katja Tarleton of Santa Fe. TENEQUER -- Carleton Troy Tenequer, 42, a resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, October 3, 2003. He is survived by his daughters, Tawnya M. Tenequer, Morningstar S. Tenequer, Cheyenne W. Tenequer, and Seqouia M. Tenequer; sons, Joshua A. Tenequer, and Ty T. Tenequer; two grandchildren, Izayah L. Larsen and Summer Love Larsen; father, Bob W. Tenequer, Sr; brothers, Bob W. Tenequer, Jr., Nathaniel Tenequer, Virgil A. Tenequer, and Conrad Tenequer. He was born in Bernalillo County, New Mexico and attended Laguna Acoma High School and Crownpoint High School and graduated from Crownpoint High School. He resided there for over 30 years until moving to Albuquerque. He had a very unique sense of humor that made everyone laugh. He was a proud member of the Comanche tribe.
