Spargo -- Joni Kaye Spargo (Meyer-Gresham), age 41, has died from complications of Diabetes in Schertz, TX on June 19, 2003. Joni loved the Lord and walked her life, minute by minute with Him. Joni gave Him the glory for her life and served Him with gratefulness. We know, without doubt, she is in the loving arms of Jesus Christ now. Joni dedicated her life to helping anyone she met, even doing so as a small child. Joni was especially devoted to encouraging persons with substance-abuse issues to turn to Jesus to overcome their addictions through 12-step programs and Christ's leading. She had been employed for 13 years at the H.O.W. Foundation, a recovery facility in Texas. Joni had recently started her own non-profit business to allow men in recovery to earn their living with dignity and God's leading. Joni was a valued member of support groups to that purpose. Joni's theme in life was,"God can, and WILL." Beloved mother, daughter, sister and friend, she blessed all who met her, no matter her own problems or state of health. God blessed Joni with a unique gift: a loving, caring, compassionate, kind and giving spirit. She touched so many lives with comfort, laughter and an infectious smile. Joni was born in Albuquerque on May 26, 1962 to Rick and Jo Anne Spargo. She graduated from Sandia High School in 1980. Joni is survived by the light of her life, her son, Justin Meyer, age 9; sister, Cheryl DeCandia; husband of 62 days, James Gresham; former husband, C.E. Meyer; 11 aunts and uncles; 35 first cousins; 15 second cousins and countless friends. A Visitation and Funeral were held in Schertz, TX on June 21, 2003 with the Reverend Jerry Goodridge, Schertz Methodist Church, officiating. Numerous friends gave testimonials as to how Joni had touched their lives. Cremation has taken place. Joni will be sorely missed. Donations can be made in her memory to the American Diabetes Assoc., Research Fund, 2625 Pennsylvania NE, suite, 225, Albuquerque, NM 87110.
