Agnes -- Frances Irene Agnes, 70, a resident of Albuquerque for 61 years, passed away June 19, 2003. She is survived by her children, Cheryl Russey and husband, Joe of Albuquerque, Eugene G. Agnes II and wife, Mary of Mesa, AZ and Jayne Agnes of Albuquerque; six grandchildren, Kammara Russey, Francesca Agnes, Alexandra Agnes, Kaylah Russey and Maryssa Agnes; her mother, Beulah Greer; seven sisters; three brothers; and many other relatives and friends. Chavez -- Juanita S. Chavez, age 102, a lifelong resident of New Mexico died June 19, 2003. Survivors include her daughters, Josephine Chavez of Carrizozo, Teresa Chavez of Albuquerque, Agnes Dotson and husband, Keith of Corrales; sons, Mariano S. Chavez and wife, Lucy of Santa Fe, Godfrey S. Chavez of Tularosa, Richard S. Chavez and wife Charlotte of Chula Vista, CA, Frank S. Chavez and wife, Lorrane of Albuquerque, Conrad S. Chavez and wife, Sue of Checotha, OK; daughter-in-law, Mary Chavez of Carrizozo; 29 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Federico in 1969 and her son, Fred in 1972. Juanita was the Democratic Precinct Chairperson in Lincoln County for many years. Viewing and Visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 23, 2003 with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. in Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary. Diaz -- Madeline Brito-Diaz, 84, a lifetime resident of the Estancia Valley, passed away Wednesday June 18, 2003 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born April 18, 1919 in Estancia, NM to Eugenio M. & Josefita (Serna) Brito. She is survived by one daughter, Sylviana d'Ouville of Albuquerque, NM; and grandsons Carlos A. d'Ouville, and Xavier d'Ouville; granddaughter-in-law, Xochitl C. d'Ouville; three brothers Arturo and wife, Mary Lou Brito, Benny and wife, Lourdes Brito, and Efren and wife, Margaret Brito; sister-in-law, Ruth Brito; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Maria Brito. Madeline was the Torrance County Mental Health Director; a member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Friendship Force, Partners of the Americans, Cultural Arts Society. She was a Gracious hostess, and she was an avid lover of dance and music. Madeline and her sister Maria, were both world travelers. Madeline will lie in state Sunday June 22, 2003-10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty. A Rosary will be recited Sunday June 22, 2003-2:00 PM at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Estancia, NM. Mass will be celebrated Monday June 23, 2003-2:00 PM also at St. Peter & Paul, with father Jose Lucero officiating. Burial will follow at the Estancia Catholic Cemetery. Gerard -- George Gerard, 79, died on Sunday night, the 8th of June. He was born in 1924 in Brooklyn, New York. During the Second World War he served in the U.S. infantry in Europe and was wounded in the Battle of Normandy. He was a graduate of Ohio State University and spent the first years after the war in radio and television. In the early fifties he and his wife Rhianwen settled in Albuquerque, where he later became a schoolteacher. He worked for A.P.S. until his retirement in 1986. George was a long-time member of the Welsh Society of New Mexico and had a deep and abiding love of Wales, his wife s native land. He loved the sea and ships, the company of friends, good music, good conversation and animals, especially cats. He is survived by Rhianwen, his wife of 55 years; daughter Valerie Gerard Dillon, her husband Stephen Dillon; granddaughter Cariad; sons Robert Gerard and his wife Sharon of Chaparral, New Mexico and Morgan Gerard of Albuquerque. A family memorial service will be held on Friday, June 20th at the National Veterans Cemetery in Santa Fe where the ashes will be interred. A general memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 21st. at the French Mortuary Chapel, 1111 University Blvd., NE, Albuquerque. Hodgin -- LeAnne Hodgin-Davis, 58, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, June 14, 2003. She is survived by her mother, Monte Lee Davis-McMullen; sons, Charles Arthur Johnson and Larry LaMont Hodgin and wife Anita Elizabeth Hodgin, II; daughter, Nancy Lee Johnson, all of Albuquerque; and fiance, Gregory Joseph Tabet of Los Angeles, CA; and grandchildren Danella Dominique Hodgin, Lisa Bernadette Griego, and Naomi Jenifer Martinez. Mrs. Hodgin-Davis was born in Albuquerque. She was a teacher for 26 1/ 2 years. Mrs. Hodgin received a national award for instituting the Character Counts Program. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Chuch and the American Association of University Women. A tree planting memorial service will be held Thursday, 9:30 a.m., at Faith Lutheran Church, 10000 Spain Rd. Johnson -- Bryan"BJ" Johnson, 25, a resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, June 13, 2003, after bravely battling Hodgkins Lymphoma for four years. Orwat -- Marilynn Diana Orwat received her angel wings on Monday, June 16, 2003. She died in the arms of her loving family at the ABQ Regional Medical Center Hospice Unit. Marilynn was born April 12, 1932 in Springville, NY. She is survived by her mother, Olive M. Hampton of Brigham City, Utah; her five children, David Orwat, and his wife Elvie, Elaine and her husband Dr. Robert Foreman, Sharon D. Streicher, Charles Orwat and his wife Debbie, and Keith Orwat and his wife, Debra; grandchildren, Jennifer M. Pardo -- Brian T. Pardo, 42, a native of Albuquerque, and a resident of Cedar Grove, passed away suddenly. A graduate of Del Norte High School and T-VI, he was a Mechanical Technician at Sandia National Labs for 18 years. He enjoyed boating, water skiing, hunting, his horses and the company of his family and many friends. He is survived by his parents, Julio and Carol Pardo; his sisters, Karen Boyce of Shawnee, KS and Alisa Baremore of Albuquerque; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Rascon -- Estefanita"Estefy" Rascon, 72, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, June 19, 2003 to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She is survived by her husband, Dan"JD" Rascon; her two sons, Adrain Rascon and Eugene Rascon; three daughters, Sonia Rascon, Coeli Rascon, Varii and Gilbert Trujillo; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters and two brothers, Zoriada Martinez and husband, Willie, Esperanza Gonzales and husband, Nelson, Socorro Hunt and husband, Edgar, Bertha Arnold and husband, Roger, Eduardo Baca and wife, Esther, Johnny Baca and wife, Celia; her in-laws; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death, her father, Jesus Baca; mother, Magdalena Baca; and brother, Roy Baca. She was born on September 26, 1930 in El Rito, NM where she lived for 20 years. Since then, she has lived in Albuquerque. Celebrating 52 years of marriage, she was an exemplary wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. As a faithful servant in her church community, Glory Hall, she touched many lives with God's spirit. Her love for nature, traveling, gardening, sewing, reading God's word and caring for her loved ones gave her a full life. She will be greatly missed. Cremation has taken place. Robison -- Kenneth W. Robison passed away June 17, 2003, with his daughter, Marci and her husband, Larry Henning, at his side. He was born April 22, 1909, in Holton, Kansas. His wife, Helen, preceded him in death, August 21, 2000, after 64 years of marriage. Ken is survived by sister, Neva and husband, Therll Heiselman; sister, Mary and husband John Meier; and brother, Bob and wife, Mary Maxine Robison; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is fondly remembered as"Granddad" by Nanda, Carrie, Andie, Kathy, Conny, Katarina, Linda and Anna. Ken was a lifetime employee with the Santa Fe Railroad, serving as General Foreman at the Tie Treating Plant and Chemist upon retirement. In 1952 he and his wife became members of Central United Methodist Church where he served as president of the Friendly Bible Class, taught Sunday school classes and served as general Sunday School Superintendent over an enrollment of 1100 adults and children. In addition he served as usher in church, President of Men's Club, President of the Senior Fellowship and organization of elderly citizens; served on the Administrative Board and Finance Committee for 30 years. Upon retirement from the SFRR, he filled his time with volunteer work beginning being on the first RSVP Board that helped develop the Office of Senior Affairs Center; and was on the first Advisory Board at Palo Duro Senior Center helping to develop their first By-Laws. On August 5 1980, he was honored by being appointed Colonel-Aid-De-Camp on the Executive Staff of the State of New Mexico by acting Gov. Roberto Mondragon. The Veterans Administration honored him after 18 years and 5,000 hours of service while he was on the Executive Board of the VAVS Advisory Board at the Veterans Administration Hospital. Ken served in AARP as Chapter President, Assistant Director and then State Director. In 1988 the American Red Cross awarded him a plaque as safety volunteer of the year. He received a national award on April 9, 1989 from the American Association of Retired Persons in appreciation of outstanding service to the community and his picture hangs in the Senior Citizens Hall of Fame. He enjoyed many years of association with the local Shriners. The family wishes to thank the special care given to Ken by Christiansen Home Care and Staff: Lucy, Marcella, Alex, Nina and the Albuquerque Caregivers at Hoffmantown: Nadia, Yvonne, Lynnae, Javier and Rene as well as Vista care Hospice and the continued support by Kathy Finley. Tapia -- Mr. Tomas (Tappers) Tapia, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at the age of 56. Mr. Tapia retired from the City after 25 years of service. He was a loving and caring person who will be greatly missed. He was always there for his family and friends. He also loved music. He is survived by his wife, Mary C. Williams; children, Harrison Lee Few, Johnny Lee Few, and Tomie Jane Bennett; brothers, Jackie Jaramillo, Victor Vallejos, David James Vallejos, and Adolph Vallejos; sister, Betty Vallejos; and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts and friends. A Wake Service will be held on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Church on the Rock. Funeral Services for Mr. Tapia will be held on Monday, June 23, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Church on the Rock. With tearful eyes we watched you fade away. Although we loved you dearly; we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest; God broke our hearts to prove to us that He only takes the best. It's lonesome here without you; we miss you more each day. Life doesn't seem the same, since you went away. When days are sad and lonely, and everything goes wrong, we seem to hear you whisper,"Cheer up and carry on." Vander Wagen -- Dr. Robert Charles Vander Wagen (Dr. Van), 72, skilled physician, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Monday, June 16, 2003 in Bullhead City, Arizona. Born in Rehoboth, New Mexico, December 24, 1930. He spent his childhood in and around the Pueblo of Zuni, where his family has been since 1897. Rob's elementary education was spent being taught by his mother in a one-room school house in Zuni. He attended Wasatch Academy (Utah), Calvin College and Seminary, University of Michigan Medical School and University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health. He specialized in Pediatrics and Public Health. He retired in 1982 ending a career of 24 years with the USPHS, Indian Health Service and the State of New Mexico. After retirement, through writing he shared his fascination of the southwest desert with all who love her honest faces. Rob was preceded in death by his brother, Ted; his father, Simon; his mother, Wilhelmina; and his son, Robert Charles II. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Betty; siblings; Larry Vander Wagen, Bernice Stock, and Ethel Carey; children, Barbara Vander Wagen-Bieniewski, Ruth Garza, Claudia Delaney, Norman Vander Wagen, and Glenna Little. The grandchildren, Wendy, Jacquelyn, Rebecca, Paula, Roxanne, Jared, Rachel, Sarah, Kent, Ross, Joshua, and Caszandra. Also one great-grandchild, Courtney Jo. A multitude of friends and family will remember him for his quick wit and marvelous stories that gladdened our hearts and nourished our souls. He managed to enrich the lives of everyone he met. A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held at Hope Evangelical Church, 4710 Juan Tabo NE on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at 6:00 p.m. A second Memorial Service is being planned for July in Zuni, New Mexico. The family of Rob Vander Wagen ask that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to a fund that will be a scholarship for the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Dr. Van's name.
