Austin -- Thomas Edward Austin, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2003 in Albuquerque. He was born on August 6, 1946 in Houston, TX, and was a 1964 graduate of Linden-Kildare Consolidated High School, Linden, TX. He served his country during the Vietnam Conflict in the U.S. Navy from 1964-1968. He was the son of Nell Woods Austin Hancock and the late Henry Edward Austin. He is survived by his mother; his wife, Linda Ragland Austin; and a son, Travis Woods Austin. Also surviving are sisters, Hilda Doty and Vicki Head as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and he was"Grandpa" to Spencer Doty. A brother, Timothy Lloyd Austin passed earlier. Tom ("Old Crow Dog") was Vice President and General Mgr. Of Gatewood Millwork in Albuquerque. He was a founding member of the Cabinet Makers Assn., a member of the Architectural Woodwork Institute and a member of the Lumbee Tribe of the Cherokee Nation. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., at Calvary Chapel of Albuquerque, 4001 Osuna Rd. NE, with a reception following at the church. Bannowsky -- Mary Irene Bannowsky, 84, a resident of Albuquerque for the past 12 years, passed away Friday, May 23, 2003. Irene was born Monday, March 24, 1919 in Farmington, NM to Rosa Belle Stallings, nee Warren, and Lorenzo Stallings who homesteaded in the Waterflow and Fruitland areas of New Mexico. After graduating from high school in 1937, she attended Mt. St. Joseph Jr. College in Maple Mount, Kentucky where she earned her AA degree. In 1942 she attended New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM where she earned a B.A. degree. In 1969, she received her Med from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, OK. Irene taught at Caney High School in Caney, OK and Tse'Bit'ai Middle School in Shiprock, NM for many years. Irene is survived by her daughter, Frances Bannowsky; son, Lovell Alonzo"L.A." Bannowsky, III and wife, Geraldine McBroom of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Alyson Munday and husband, Eric of Seattle WA, John Bannowsky of Kihei, Maui, HI, Chris Bannowsky and his wife, Maggie, of Steamboat Springs, CO; great granddaughter, Grace Mundy; sister, Frances Mahoney of Tucson, AZ; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, John Laurence Bannowsky; grandson, Simon Smith; sister, Pat Ryan and brothers, Warren and W.H. Stallings. Irene was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Rosary will be recited Wednesday, May 28, 2003, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Beers -- Don P. Beers, age 77, of Santa Fe, NM, died on Monday, May 19, 2003. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Beers. Don was born April 9, 1926 to Don B. and Pauline Beers. He married Geraldine Beers on May 19, 1952 in Santa Fe, NM. Mr. Beers was a retired Real Estate Broker, a member of the Elks Lodge, Mason in the Masonic Lodge and a Shriner. His sense of humor will be missed. He is survived by his son, Ron Beers and wife, Kitty; daughter, Lori Beers-Ashoo and husband, Luay; grandchildren: Bonnie Beers, Nicki Scalley, Shane Beers, Ryan Ashoo, Amanda Ashoo and Kirsten Ashoo; great-grandsons: Riley and Cameron Russil. Brazie -- Ardyth F. Brazie, 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1951 and formerly of Peterson, Iowa, died peacefully Sunday, May 18, 2003. She is survived by her two sisters, Evelyn Weik of Spirit Lake, Iowa and Cleo Holiday of Black River Falls, Wisconsin; three nieces, Lee Ann Stransky of Elkhart, Indiana, Linda Moore of Spirit Lake, Iowa and Julie Greer of the Black River Falls, Wisconsin area; and dear friend, Carl Shaw and family of Albuquerque. Ardyth was preceded in death by parents, Ervin and Lulu (Tuttle) French; husband, Arland F. Brazie, on September 29, 1999; nephew, Jerry Holiday; and a great nephew, Tom Stransky. The daughter of Ervin and Lulu (Tuttle) French, Ardyth was born on April 16, 1919, in Mountain Lake, Minnesota. Her childhood years were spent in Royal, Iowa, beginning 1920 and then to rural Peterson, Iowa as of 1924. Ardyth graduated from the eighth grade at the"Country School" and then from Peterson High School in 1936. Ardyth enjoyed growing up on the farm and shared many fond memories with her sisters, cousins, and neighbors. Ardyth married Arland Brazie of Little Falls, New York on April 14, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois. Following their marriage, they resided in various places during Arland's time in the service including Annapolis, MD, Germany, CoCo Beach, Florida, and Albuquerque. Ardyth had been employed in the office in the military personnel building in Camp Claiborne headquarters in Alexandria, Louisiana prior to meeting Arland. Ardyth enjoyed sewing, playing golf and bridge. She was an officer in the Officers Wives Club of Patrick Air Force Base and also the Wives Club of Kirtland Air Force while in Albuquerque. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Wednesday, May 28, 11:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. NE. Callahan -- Yvonne H. Callahan, 66, died Friday, May 2, 2003 and J. Patrick Callahan, 67, died Sunday, May 18, 2003, both lifelong residents of Albuquerque. Survived by their daughters, Carla Callahan of Ventura, CA, and Sydney Jablonowski and husband, Brent of Oak Park, CA; grandchildren, Juba, Seth-Patrick, Sabrina, Ashley-Yvonne. They were married on June 15, 1959 and were married for 43 years. They were a loving couple dedicated to each other and their families. Pat was a graduate of New Mexico Military Institute and received his doctorate from the University of Illinois-Urbana. He was the manager of ATL Engineering Services, and a member of the New Mexico Society of Professional Engineers. He loved to remodel houses, he was an avid Lobo fan, and he loved Mexican food, especially red chili. Yvonne was a journalist and a professor at the University of New Mexico. She had a fiercely independent spirit and pursued her education and interests, in spite of obstacles such as multiple sclerosis. She enjoyed genealogy, history and historical places. Both, Pat and Yvonne loved spending time with their grandchildren. Contributions should be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Rio Grande Division, 2021 Girard SE, Suite 201 87106. Carraway -- Mary Elizabeth Carraway, born September 3, 1915 in Farmington, Kentucky, passed away May 23, 2003. She is preceded in death by her husband, Delmon Carraway. She is survived by one sone, James D. Carraway of Novato, CA; three grandsons, Jason A. Carraway of Albuquerque, NM, Devin Carraway of Oakland, CA, and Nathan Carraway; one brother, Raymond McNeely of Albuquerque, NM; two sisters, Betty Jo Johnson of Farmington, KY, and Trevadale Boaz of Sedalia, KY. She is also survived by dear friends, Ruth Carraway, and Curtis and Carmen Hudson. She was a member of Mountainside Church of Christ since 1975. A teacher for 30 years in Kentucky and Detroit, she retired in 1975 and moved to Albuquerque where she resided since. Funeral services are to be held Sunday, May 25, 2003 at Church Hill Funeral Home in Murnay, Kentucky.

Dudley -- Dr. James Nicholas ¯Nick¯ Dudley, 96, died suddenly Friday, May 23, 2003. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years, Virginia Baird Dudley. They met while Nick was health commissioner of Roanoke, Virginia. Nick and Virginia married on November 20, 1948, and continued to live in Roanoke until moving to Albuquerque in 1953. Nick was a longtime physician in the Albuquerque area in affiliation with Lovelace Clinic, the Veterans Administration, and other local area healthcare facilities. He actively practiced medicine until he was 88 years old. Nick and Virginia were active in three Albuquerque churches: Immanuel Presbyterian, First Presbyterian, and Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church. They enjoyed traveling extensively-including several trips to Europe, numerous cruises, and domestic destinations (their favorite being San Francisco) - oftentimes to visit their children. Nick is survived by his four children and their families: James N. Dudley, Jr. and wife Tonimarie; Kemper Dudley of San Francisco, California; Lt. Col. Robert Dudley, (USAF retired) of Memphis, Tennessee; and Carol Boswell and husband Greg of Dayton, Ohio. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Ryan and Zachary Dudley of Albuquerque: Laura and Scott Dudley of Hampton, Virginia; and Lucas Boswell, of Dayton, Ohio. Fernando -- Francisco Fernando, veteran, U.S. Air Force retired, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 20, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Julia Fernando; son, Lee J. Herrera and wife, Jeannette of Lisle, Illinois, daughter, Carmelita Fernando of Albuquerque, and son, Frank Fernando, Jr. and wife, Marti of Albuquerque, and grandchildren, Noel, Claire, and Nicholas Fernando. Four brothers and one sister, many nieces and nephews and other family and friends who loved and will miss him also survive him. His mother-in-law, Carmelita Montoya preceded him in death. As a youth, he joined the Armed Forces and was transferred to Sandia Base in Albuquerque, where he met and married his wife, Julia. Francisco was a Master Sergeant and Administrator in the Air Force's Nuclear Defense Agency. Cremation has taken place. Fleming -- Virginia Isabel Fleming, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949, died Friday, May 23, 2003. She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Schuerch and husband, Tony of Albuquerque, and V. Dale Antreasian of Hatch, NM; son, Paul S. Fleming and wife, Marilyn of Albuquerque; 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren; and special friend and companion, Raymond Fuller of Albuquerque. Lopez -- Dolores Lopez, a native New Mexican born April 16, 1913 died at home on May 20, 2003. She resided in Albuquerque with her eldest daughter Margaret Lopez and Margaret's adopted son, Raymond Lopez. She is survived by her son, Thomas H. Lopez and wife Dixie; daughters, Margaret Lopez, Frances Buenconsejo, Angie Bahrmann and husband, Ronald, Alberta Willett and husband Fred; brother, Raymond Blea; sisters, Margie McKenzie and Jenny Sanchez; 20 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis A. Lopez; sons, Fred Henry Lopez and Louis E. Lopez. Dolores was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She stated her wise words of wisdom on her 90th birthday when she said"In the end it comes down to love. It is who you love and how you love that matters." Dolores will be missed by her family and friends and in the end she will be honored by their devotion, respect, and never ending love, which will prove that her 90 years of life were not in vain. She will be remembered in each sunset when you see the vibrant colors of red setting in the west. March -- John A. March, Jr. 5/31/39-5/18/2003 John A. March, Jr., born in Bozeman, MT, spent most of his life in Montana and New Mexico. Although he lived in many towns in Montana, his high school years were spent in Shelby, MT playing football, basketball, and other sports. He attended the University of Texas in Austin for a short time, then graduated with a degree in chemistry from the University of Montana. His post- graduate studies were at The American Graduate School of International Management ¯ Thunderbird, in Phoenix, AZ. While getting an education, he spent time with his parents in Peru, assisting his father, John Abe March, MD. Other jobs in his youth ranged from construction work, crop dusting and fire fighting. John began his business career selling heavy construction equipment in Colombia and Venezuela. On returning to the United States, he chose to reside in Montana where he began his real estate career. He formed and managed a real estate brokerage in Missoula. He received the CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) designation in 1975. During the mid ¯ 1980's, John continued the work he loved, Commercial Real Estate, when he relocated to Albuquerque. The Commercial Real Estate & Development firm, West Wood Realty, was established in 1996 by John Black, Jim Haworth, and John A. March, where he continued his association until his death. John will be remembered for his warmth, his smile, his sense of fairness, and his kindness toward others. He is survived by his daughters, Tana and Barrie; his wife of fourteen years, Carol; step-son, Greg Noel and his wife Angela, step-son, George Naugles and his wife, Shelley, four step-grandchildren, Mallory, Madison, Zach and Gabe; brother-in-law, Gerald Shelton and his wife, Nancy, brother-in-law, Ronald Shelton and his wife, Rose Marie. He is also survived by many, many loving friends and business colleagues. Remembrance Services will be held at 3 pm on Thursday, May 29th, at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church, 601 Montano Road NW, Albuquerque. Cremains will be present at the service. Mccarley -- William Doyle McCarley, a 49-year resident of Albuquerque (formerly of Quemado), passed from this life on May 16, 2003. He was born on May 10, 1932 near Grannis, Arkansas. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joan Crume McCarley of Albuquerque; daughters, Rhonda McCarley of Edmond, OK and Elaine Shultz and husband, Robert of Willis Point, Tx; seven adoring grandchildren, Jay, Joyce, Les and Matt Yeich, all of Edmond, OK, and Jessie, Larney and Kellie Shultz, all of Willis Point, TX; sister, Faye Walters and husband, Gerald of Grannis, AR; brother, Gordon McCarley of Mena, AR; and many nieces and nephews. Doyle was a multi talented man. He was a horseman, storyteller, woodsman, construction worker and heavy equipment operator. For 43 years he was employed as a transit mix driver for Albuquerque Gravel Products, later known as Cal Mat. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating the legacy of his life will be held at a later time at his birthplace in Arkansas. Morgan -- Carol Anne Morgan, 57, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1987, and coming from the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2003. Carol was born December 4, 1945 the daughter of Daniel Joseph and Helen Marie Birmingham in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. She had worked in catalog sales for J.C. Penny's before her death. She was a member of the Calvary Chapel of Albuquerque. Carol was preceded in death by her father, Daniel J. Birmingham. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Richard Morgan, Sr. of Rio Rancho; her mother, Helen Marie Birmingham of Pittsburgh, PA; two sons, Douglas Morgan, Jr. and wife, Wendy of Albuquerque, and Keith Morgan and wife, Roena of Los Alamos, NM; two sisters, Kathy Birmingham and Mary Lou O'Neil; one brother, Don Birmingham; and two grandchildren, Hannah Morgan and Silas Morgan. She is survived by one sister, Betty Ives and husband, Albert, of Irondale, MO; son, John Peace and wife, Marian, of Albuquerque; daughter, Sue Toler and husband, Doug, of Las Vegas, NV; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Poulin -- Rita Angela Poulin, 54, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away on May 19, 2003. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Louis Poulin of Albuquerque; her five children, Rex Joseph Baum and wife, Kerri of Rio Rancho, Bobbie Kay Sanders and husband, Mark of Rio Rancho, Belinda DelBosque and husband, Jim of Virginia, Patrick Allen Poulin and wife, Veronica of Albuquerque and Terri Louise Rudder and husband, Benito of North Corona, CA. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; three brothers, Jim Coy and wife, Jane of Buda, TX, Mark Sylaart and wife, Carol of Beaverton, OR and Fred Sylaart and wife, Charleen of Cavour, SD. Rita was related to the Patton and Dobell family of Holbrook, Arizona. She is preceded in death by one sister, Christine Sylaart, and her natural mother. Rita was a member of the Auxiliary VFW Post 5890 in Rio Rancho. She loved to ride Harley Davidson Motorcycles and was a Harley Owners Group member. Rita was employed as a Registered Medical Assistant at St. Joseph West Mesa Hospital for 16 years. Rosary will be recited on Monday, May 26, 2003 at 4:00 p.m. at French Mortuary - Westside Chapel. Mass of Christian burial will take place on Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd. NW. Sanchez -- Violet L. Sanchez, 83, of Cheyenne, WY died May 9, 2003 at Saint Anthony's Hospital in Denver, CO. She was born October 21, 1919 in Washington, D.C. She lived in Albuquerque for 50 years and had lived her since 1992. She enjoyed her family and was especially proud of her grandchildren. Mrs. Sanchez is survived by a daughter, Eileen Smith, and her husband, Robert Smith of Cheyenne and Denver; son, Phil Sanchez and his wife, Ann Sanchez of Albin, WY; brother, James Lurba of Fairfax, VA; and five grandchildren, Kirsi and Maurisa Jensen, Alex Smith, Heather and Justin Sanchez. Her husband, Maurice Sanchez; and her parents, Bernard and Raimunda Lurba preceded her in death. Cremation has taken place in Denver. A Private Service will be held in Albuquerque. Sandoval -- Jane Proctor Sandoval, 56, died Monday evening, March 17, 2003. A resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jane lived in Raleigh, North Carolina for the last six months of her life with her brother and family. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, A. David Sandoval. Jane and David both spent their careers in Washington, D.C. Jane was a computer systems analyst for the U.S. State Department and David was an economist for the Department of Energy. In 1995 they retired and moved to Albuquerque which was David's home. Jane spent her undergraduate years at St. Andrews Presbyterian College and did her graduate work at Georgetown University. In addition to her professional contributions, Jane devoted much study and volunteer time to the areas of archeology, paleontology and anthropology. She and David were also avid travelers. Jane is survived by her brother, Rev. Allen Proctor, wife Cheryl; nephew, Stephen; niece, Jesse, of Raleigh, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Consuelo Sandoval and her partner, Frank Lupo of Los Angeles; sister-in-law, Anita Sandoval and nephew, David Bowen of Greenfield, Wisconsin; and nephew, John Bowen of Lewisville, Texas. A graveside memorial service will be held in Santa Fe at the Santa Fe Memorial Gardens, 417 East Rodeo Rd., on Sunday, June 1st at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jane's name to the Albuquerque Community Foundation, 3301 Menaul Blvd., NE, Albuquerque, NM 87176, either for the Sandoval Endowment for Music Education, or the Sandoval Endowment for the New Mexico Museum of Natural History.

Shaski -- John Earl Shaski May 4, 1939 - May 6, 2003 John E. Shaski, 64, a resident of Albuquerque and Vermilion, Ohio died Tuesday, May 6, 2003 in Michigan. He was born May 4, 1939 in Joliet, Illinois. He graduated from Lemont Township High School in 1957. John received his BS from the University of New Mexico in 1963, and during his tenure was an enthusiastic member of the Lobo football team. He earned the Col. H.J. Golightly Defensive MVP Award in 1960. He served in the United States Air Force and attained the rank of Captain. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service as a navigator in Vietnam. John was employed by Electronic Date Systems in Troy, Michigan as a Senior Manufacturing Consultant with plans to retire in Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife, Joye, of Albuquerque; son, John Curtis and his wife, Sara; beloved granddaughter, Brigid Anne, all of Enosburg Falls, Vermont; son, Brian Michael of Jersey City, New Jersey; brother, Michael, of Desert Hot Springs, California. Private interment will be held May 27, 2003 at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Turner -- Albert"Al" Turner, 89, a resident of Albuquerque since 1938, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Selma Turner of Albuquerque; daughters, Audrey Nelson and Susie Turner of Albuquerque; sister; Dorothy E. Rascon of Albuquerque; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son, William Turner. Mr. Turner worked at Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph for 45 years, retiring in 1975. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. Private services have taken place.
