Beers -- Don P. Beers, age 77, of Santa Fe, NM, died on Monday, May 19, 2003. He was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine Beers. Don was born April 9, 1926 to Don B. and Pauline Beers. He married Geraldine Beers on May 19, 1952 in Santa Fe, NM. Mr. Beers was a retired Real Estate Broker, a member of the Elks Lodge, Mason in the Masonic Lodge and a Shriner. His sense of humor will be missed. He is survived by his son, Ron Beers and wife, Kitty; daughter, Lori Beers-Ashoo and husband, Luay; grandchildren: Bonnie Beers, Nicki Scalley, Shane Beers, Ryan Ashoo, Amanda Ashoo and Kirsten Ashoo; great-grandsons: Riley and Cameron Russil. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2003, 3:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Bohn -- Michael Penberthy Bohn, respected scientist and loving father, died Sunday, May 18, 2003 at the age of 58. Michael was known for his great love of his children who he raised as a single parent. His many interests included river rafting, scuba diving, horseback riding, flying, spelunking, amateur magic, hiking and mountaineering. Michael was passionate about Alaska and his trips there were the highlight of his many adventures. Michael was a talented photographer and a member of the Enchanted Lens Camera Club. He was a founder of the recently formed Albuquerque Photographers Gallery in Old Town. His work is known for its deeply saturated colors and elegant simplicity. His images have won numerous local and state awards, including Best of Show at the New Mexico State Fair. Michael was a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories, where he worked for twenty years. He was awarded the Employee Recognition Award for Outstanding Service in the year 2002. Michael attended the US Military Academy at West Point, Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and graduated with a PhD in Applied Mechanics from Stanford University. He taught Engineering at UC Berkeley, George Washington University and Stanford University. Michael is survived by his daughter, Juliette Bohn, and his son, Alex Bohn. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Smith and her husband, Samuel Smith; his father, John Bohn; his siblings, John A. Bohn, Bob Bohn, Bill Bohn, Susie Maguire, and Peter Smith; his stepdaughters Amy, Amber and Krystle Gordon; and his long time friend, Katy Lang. Brown -- Ruth Naoma Scoville Brown, 90, a resident of Albuquerque, passed over Tuesday morning, May 20, 2003, at 7:55 a.m., at West Mesa Care and Rehabilitation, where she had resided for the past two years. She was preceded in death by her father, Ray Scoville; son, Richard Harold Brown, Jr.; mother, Sarah Naoma Scoville; brothers, John Scoville and Ralph Scoville; and husband, Richard Harold Brown Sr. She is survived by her brother, William E. Scoville of Los Lunas; daughter, Lynda Carol of La Jara, NM; niece, Pearl Nelson of Medford, OR; two grandsons, Nicholas Brown and Justin Daniels, both of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Ellen Lockhart of Issaquah, WA; great-grandsons, Curtis and Cody Brown, both of Albuquerque and Zachary Lockhart of Issaquah, WA; great-granddaughter, Madisen Brown of Albuquerque; as well as a host of friends. Ruth attended Pasadena College in Pasadena, CA and Portland Bible Institute in Portland, OR, where she met her husband of 59 years, Richard Harold Brown. They married on December 22, 1940. Ruth graduated from Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, ID with a degree in Nursing in 1940. She retired from Presbyterian Hospital in 1976. Ruth was active in the Albuquerque Friends Church, the Palo Duro Senior Center, WCTU and Grey Gladiators; also volunteering at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. She was an accomplished artist and musician; and a much-loved friend, mother, and grandmother. Ruth will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 24, 2003, at 4:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, with Barney F. Bush officiating. C'de Baca -- Maria Adelina"Lena" DeTevis C'de Baca, 84, beautiful beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was welcomed peacefully into the arms of the Lord our Savior on Tuesday, May 20, 2003. Lena was a resident of Albuquerque since 1991 after having lived previously in Santa Fe for 18 years and in Los Alamos for 28 years. She was born in Las Vegas, NM to Antonio and Emilia DeTevis and was the oldest daughter. As a teenager, she worked at the Brush Ranch in Pecos. While in Los Alamos she raised her five children and worked in the fabric section at Clement and Benner department store and as a teller at the First National Bank of Santa Fe. While living in Santa Fe, she worked at Anthony's Department Store. She married Ernest"Nene" C'de Baca (who preceded her in death) in 1940, and in 1942 they moved to San Francisco, California, which left a lasting impression on her. Her favorite song was"I Left My Heart in San Francisco". Lena was an excellent seamstress, a fabulous cook, and an accomplished artist. Many of her oil paintings are in her children and grandchildren's homes. Lena was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her surviving children, Anne Legler and husband, Bruce of Santa Fe, Mary Cherryhomes of Carlsbad, Peggy Atencio and husband, Don De Gasperi, Carla Martinez and husband David, and Ernie C' de Baca and wife, Geri all of Albuquerque; sisters, Pita Lucero and husband, Buddy of Albuquerque, Rose Sanchez, Marie DeTevis, Rise Gallegos all of Las Vegas, NM, and Jane DeTevis of Las Vegas, NV; brother, Joe DeTevis and wife, Ruth of Uvalde, TX; grandchildren, Toye Haddock, Bill Norwood, Alex Legler, Allison Legler, Amy Michaels, Tom Cherryhomes, Shannon Enterman, Kristie Atencio-McClellan, Kathie Atencio, Diego Martinez, Anita Martinez, Robbie C' de Baca, and Seth C' de Baca; and 15 great-grandchildren who loved her dearly as GG. Chelius -- Helen R. Chelius, 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1967 and past resident of Los Alamos, NM, died Tuesday, May 20, 2003. She is survived by her daughters; Marilyn Cushing of Irving, TX, Kathy Montoya and husband, Joe of West Valley City, UT, and Elizabeth Gordon of Albuquerque, NM; sons, Brian Chelius and wife, Edra Lynn of Orlando, FL, Don Chelius and wife, Kathy of Henderson, NV, Leo Chelius, Jr of Santa Fe, NM, Patrick Chelius of Albuquerque, NM and Stephen Chelius of Portland, OR.; brother, Reid Rowberry and wife, Priscilla of Salt Lake City, UT.; 23 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Dooley -- Clarence (Bud) Dooley, 84, a resident of Albuquerque for 48 years, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2003. Bud is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma Dooley; son, Bob Dooley and wife, Linda of Albuquerque; daughter, Lynn Bennett and husband, Wayne of Middletown, NJ; son-in-law, Roger Martin of Las Vegas, NV; and granddaughters, Amy Dooley of Denver, CO and Kimberly Martin of Las Vegas, NV. Bud was preceded in death by his daughter, Joanne Martin. After serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, Bud went to work for Calvert Distillers Company and was the N.M. State Manager for 28 years and retired in 1983. Owsley -- R. J. Owsley, 76, passed away at his Albuquerque home Wednesday, May 21, 2003, in the loving arms of his family. He was born Thursday, April 21, 1927 in Goodman, MO. Mr. Owsley served in the US Navy during WWII and made Albuquerque his home for most of his life. RJ and his family lived in Grants, NM for 10 years while he worked for Anaconda. He later worked as an auditor for the Department of Agriculture until he retired in 1994. After retiring, he and his wife, Tina, enjoyed motoring throughout the United States. He was a gifted ceramic ware artist. Mr. Owsley is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Tina; three sons, Randy and wife, Kathy, of Albuquerque, NM, Alan and wife, Linda, of Phoenix, AZ and Wayne and wife, Sharon, of Grapevine, TX; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He is also survived by Robert"Bo" Bowen, who was like a son to him, and wife, Kate. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Ray and Dona Owsley and a brother, Jack. Pica -- Nicholas A. Pica, 95, a resident of Albuquerque for 43 years, died Saturday, May 17, 2003. He is survived by his son, Nicholas R. Pica and wife, Christine of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Cheryl Penrose of Austin TX; grandson, Craig Pica of Denver, CO; step granddaughters, Ashlie and Megan Ryan; sister-in-law, Giovina Parks of Bakersfield, CA; niece, Patricia Gomez and husband, John of Albuquerque; and numerous other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ersilia Pica. Nick was born in Italy, and arrived on Ellis Island in 1913 with his family. They settled in Rochester, NY and lived there for over 47 years. Nick moved to Albuquerque in 1960, where he owned and operated Nick's Appliance Service for over 35 years. In his later years, Nick was an active member of the Albuquerque Stroke Club where he would counsel recent stroke patients to assist in their recovery. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 24, 2003, at 10:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel with Pastor Ken Moore officiating. Sharp -- Virginia Lee Barham Sharp, born in 1925, a long-time resident of Belen, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2003 with her family by her side. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Belen, and the Pilot Club. In 1959 she was given the title of Ms. Belen and Ms. New Mexico and also competed in the Ms. America Pageant. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, David"Coach" Sharp in 1988; her son, Greg Sharp in 1983; her daughter, Peggy Sharp Romero in 2002; her parents, Russell and Ethel Barham of Missouri; and her two brothers, Russell Jr.; and Hugh Barham. Virginia is survived by her three daughters, Racy Bowersox, Cher Sharp, both of Belen, Sue Henington and her husband, Rex of Los Lunas; her son, David B. Sharp, Jr. of Belen; her 15 grandchildren, Elisha and Dennis Peralta, Rachel Torres, Josh and Melissa Romero, all of Los Lunas, Michelle and Lauren Tanis, David B. Sharp III, MD, Erica and Phillip Clardy, all of CA, Jeff and Angie Henington, Brian and Shauna Henington, all of Rio Rancho, and Greg Henington of Las Vegas, NM; 14 great-grandchildren; her four sisters, Peggy Mason and her husband, Bob of NM, Jo Crawford of CA, Polly Contino and her husband, John, and Barbara Cook and her husband, Stan, all of FL; her three brothers, Bob Barham, Johnny Barham and his wife, Mona, all of FL, and Bill Barham and his wife, Janet of PA. Walkup -- Ellis D. Walkup, 82, died at his home in Los Lunas, NM, Wednesday, May 21, 2003. Wipf -- Alice Lucille Flanagan Wipf, wife of the late James Wipf who passed away August 22, 1989, died Monday May 19, 2003, at Albuquerque Medical Center. She is survived by her sister, Joyce Healy and her husband, Joseph of Franklin, Indiana; sisters-in-law; and several loving nieces and nephews. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church. She was born at Lake Andes, South Dakota, daughter of James and Della Flanagan. Her parents and brothers, Vincent, Neil, Kenneth, James, and Donald preceded her in death. She has been a longtime resident of Albuquerque since coming here from Sioux City, Iowa in 1954. She retired from the Albuquerque Public Schools as a dedicated teacher who had a positive influence on her students. Even after 30 years of teaching she continued to be in touch with many former students. She received her Masters Degree from the University of New Mexico in 1970. She was active and held offices in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Sorority, Casa Angelica, Auxiliaries of the Brothers of the Good Shepard and the Barrett House. Her retirement years were spent traveling just as she had done with her late husband James, doing volunteer work, playing bridge, home decorating, and helping others in her caring and gracious ways. Rosary will be recited Thursday, May 22, 2003, at 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE. Zapolski -- Milton P. Zapolski age 58 of Eagle Nest passed away Tuesday May 13, 2003 in Eagle Nest, NM. He was born December 19, 1944 in Schenectady, NY the son of Milton and Anne Proskow, Zapolski. He married Sandra Zink in 1982 in Los Alamos. Milton was well known to the New Mexico radio audience in the late 1970's as the morning personality on Albuquerque KHFM's Breakfast with Milton. Harold Geller, longtime friend and Taos gallery owner, said He was an amazing guy. He could make the average person appreciate classical music. Milt was a special person and a great partner for the many concert recordings we did together. It's a great loss. Milton was the recording engineer for Music From Angel Fire since 1955. In addition to Music From Angel Fire, Milton recorded live concerts of small chamber groups, Taos School of Music, Santa Fe Symphony and the Berkshire Choral Festival. Milton was a music teacher for the Moreno Valley High School in Angel Fire. Michael Strong, MVHS Director, said Milton was a wonderful character. He was enthusiastic, original, brilliant, funny, irascible, self-deprecating, authentic, honest, honorable, sweet, peculiar, insightful, full of integrity, goodness and Milton-ness. Milton was a veteran of the US Army. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Zink of the home; his mother, Ann Zapolski of Albany, NY: two brothers, Robert Zapolski and wife, Judy of Boston, MA; Donald Zapolski and wife, Connie of Albany, NY; maternal aunt, Nadja Lapan of Kearny, NJ; two step-sons, Allen Moody and wife, Jean Stramel of La Farge, WI, and Wade Moody of Eagle Nest; and four step-grandchildren, Amber, Anastasia and Sara Moody and Silas Ebbert of La Farge. His surviving natural children are Adam Lansing of Allentown, PA and Elizabeth Lansing of Schenectady, NY. Funeral services were Sunday, May 18th and he was buried in the Elizabethtown Cemetery at Eagle Nest. Memorials can be made to the Moreno Valley High School, PO Box 1037, Angel Fire, NM 87710. Arrangements for Milton P. Zapolski are under the direction of the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home in Raton.
