Acree -- Sadie Acree, 93, a resident of Albuquerque since 1947 was called home to her Lord on April 26, 2003. Sadie was born on August 25, 1909 on a farm near Flemingsberg, KY. She was a generous and good-hearted person whose sons and grandchildren meant the world to her. Sadie is survived by her three sons, Elwood"Woody: and wife, Martha, Edward and wife, Nancy, and James and wife, Gloria. Sadie is also survived by nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all. Sadie was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Elwood"Red" Acree. Sadie retired from the Veterans Hospital in 1972 as a dietician. Although she was unable the last several years, Sadie loved to travel and fish with her husband and sons. Sadie also loved her church and has been a member of Harwood United Methodist Church since moving to Albuquerque in 1947. Services will be held on April 30, 2003 at 2:00 p.m., at Harwood United Methodist Church, 420 San Lorenzo NW, with Reverend Andy Husted officiating. Interment will follow at Sandia Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Anthony, Nathan, Daniel, John, Edward Jr., and Edward III. Honorary Pallbearers are Tony Aragon and Charlie Hern. Anaya -- Fred P. Anaya, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949, died Tuesday, April 29, 2003. He is survived by his son, Fred S. Anaya and wife, Sandra; daughters, Mary Louise Sena and Bonnie De Herrera and husband, Edward; grandchildren, Steven F. Anaya and wife Suzann, Cheryl Maturino and husband John, Michele Gutierrez and husband Louis, Christopher Anaya and wife Tina, Joyelle Sena, Brenda Sena and Benjamin Sena and wife Ashlie; 13 great-grandchildren, all of Albuquerque; sisters, Simona Davis and Isabel Garcia and husband, Antonio; brothers, John Anaya and wife, Clara Belle, Henry Anaya and Charlie Anaya and wife, Dolores; sister, Marylou Salazar and husband, Hank; and numerous nieces and nephews. Aragon -- Damacio F. Aragon, 95, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully at home on April 27, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Esther Aragon of Albuquerque; daughters, Nickie and husband, Leonard Eisenzimmer of Albuquerque, Ramona Moleres of Grants, NM, Margaret Welter of Camby, IN; sons, Col. Jose Aragon and wife, Colleen of Arlington, VA and Claude Aragon and wife, Drucilla of Grants, NM. He is also survived by sons-in-law, Wayne Gilbertson of Sun City, AZ and Pete Malies of Kyle, TX. Cole -- James P. Cole Jr., Lt. Colonel (Ret.), 82 died April 28, 2003 after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 53 years,Clara; daughter, Christine Cole and family of Los Angeles and son, Edward Cole and family of Corrales. He was preceded in death by his son, James P. Cole III."JP" (to his friends and family) was born in New York City on December 6, 1920. He was an early high school graduate in 1936 and attended Columbia University the same year on scholarship. When scholarship money ran out in 1939, he became a pilot in the Army Air Corps. He answered a call for volunteers to join the Royal Air Force in 1940. He fought in the Battle of Britain becoming on of Churchill's"so few" that"were owed so much by so many." It was here that he few the fighter plane that he loved so much; the Spitfire. He rejoined the United States Army Air Corps in 1942 after America had entered the war. He fought the remainder of the war with the Eight Air Force flying a variety of fighters. After the war, JP finished his college degree at Columbia University. He remained in the Air Force in both active and reserve capacities until 1962. During that time, he flew some of the first Fighter jets and commanded a Search and Rescue squadron in the Pacific Northwest. JP was assigned at one point during this time to fly an airplane for Clark Gable in a movie. He was an insurance company executive in civilian life and was a Boy Scout scoutmaster of the local troop helping many boys grow into young men. His passions were his wife and family, reading and golf. A man of energy, warmth and dignity, he will be greatly missed by those who knew him. Conley -- Marie K. Conley, 68, a resident of Albuquerque since 1954, died Sunday, April 27, 2003. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Delbert E. Conley of Albuquerque; daughters, Pamela Houston and husband, Tommy of Mandeville, LA and Joyce Marquez and husband, J.R. of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Amy Houston and Jacqueline Marquez; grandsons, Eric Houston and Vincent Marquez; brothers, Donald Heberlein and wife, Susie of Arizona, Raymond Heberlein of California, and Russell Heberlein and wife, Helen of Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews. Contreras -- Ronald Anthony Contreras, 29, was called home to be with our Lord on Saturday April 26. A lifetime resident of Albuquerque's North Valley he was born on October 24, 1973. Ronnie had a wide variety of tastes, including drawing, music, and fixing cars, but most importantly he loved spending time with his children. His three blessed children, Raphael, Jacob, and Elijah; and his loving wife, Alisha were the true light and pride of his life. Ronnie will be greatly missed, especially by his lifelong supporter and mother, Gloria Chavez-Davis. Ronnie truly enjoyed hanging out with his friends, especially his close friend and sister, Angela. He is also survived by Gloria's husband, Steve Davis; father, Ronald Contreras; youngest sister, Marie; and his grandmother, Nellie Chavez. Ronnie was preceded in death by his grandfather, Tranquilino Chavez. Ronnie has left us with so many wonderful memories and he will always be alive in the hearts of his family and friends. A Rosary will be recited Thursday, May 1, 2003, 7:00 p.m. at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church on the corner of 4th Street and Alameda NW in Albuquerque. Garcia -- Carole Virginia Garcia, 63, a resident of Albuquerque, died on Sunday, April 27, 2003. She is survived by her husband, George Garcia; son, Charles P. Gonzales -- Bentura A. Gonzales, 85, a resident of Los Lunas, NM, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2003. He was a member of the San Clemente Catholic Church and the VFW. He was a very religious man who loved gardening and the outdoors. He proudly served his country in the U S Army during WWII in the South Pacific Theatre. He retired from the Federal Government with 30 years of dedicated service as a security officer. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard in 1961; his parents, Bentura Sr. and Lupe Gonzales; one brother, Alberto in 2003 and one sister, Mary Stogden. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Anita of the family home; three sons, Jerry and his wife, Karen of Flagstaff, AZ, Ben and his wife, Judy of Davis, CA, Johnny and his wife, Gloria of Albuquerque, NM; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Elena Ramirez of Roswell, NM. Griego -- Tedoro"Ted" Griego died Friday, April 18, 2003 in Chandler, Arizona surrounded by his family. He was 65 years old, born to Juan Bautista and Celina (Tapia) Griego on July 23, 1937 in Tapia, New Mexico. He was the third eldest of thirteen children. He is survived by his wife, May Faye Griego; sons, Ted Griego, John Griego, Kenneth Griego (Stacey); and two granddaughters, Hannah and Sarah Griego. Miller -- Mickey L. Miller, 82, died Sunday, April 27, 2003 in Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Louise Dean Miller; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Sid Kelly of Corrales, Lee and Randy Parks of Pasadena, CA and Lynne and Rich Carson of Albuquerque; and one grandson, Daniel Miller Parks of Pasadena, CA. Mr. Miller was born July 26, 1920, at Women's & Children's Hospital in Albuquerque, retired in 1990 after teaching, coaching and serving as athletic and activities director for Albuquerque Public Schools for 44 years. He was the first teacher-coach hired for Highland High School, three years before the school opened in 1949. He taught mathematics and history while coaching football, basketball and baseball at the then-Jefferson Junior High School. He became assistant principal at Highland in 1963 and transferred to Albuquerque Public School's central office in 1970. Miller graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1939, starring in football, basketball, and baseball, and from UNM in 1943, earning nine UNM varsity letters in the same three sports. He is one of two Lobo athletes to earn these honors. He received a master's degree in administration of secondary athletics from Columbia University, New York City, in 1949. He wrote a handbook in this field after retiring. He had written a number of handbooks on elementary physical education, high school athletics, high school activities, and student responsibilities and rights before his retirement. For several years Mr. Miller scouted for several major league baseball teams, with particular service for the Pittsburg Pirates. Former NM Governor, Bruce King appointed him in 1992 as a public member of the NM Dentistry Board, on which he served six years. His awards include citations from Highland High School, Albuquerque Public Schools, New Mexico Coaches Association, New Mexico Officials Association, New Mexico Association for Health, Physical Education and Dance, and the six-state Southwest District AAHPERD, having served as president of each of the organizations. In 1999, Miller was presented an honor award by the National AAHPERD at its convention in Boston, the only New Mexico and Southwest District member ever to receive this honor. The UNM Alumni Lettermen's Association, of which he was the founding secretary-treasurer, elected him to its Hall of Honor in 1994, and he was inducted into the Albuquerque Sports Hall of Fame in 1995. Miller was one of the UNM players honored at the Legends of Lobo 100 Years of Basketball dinner earlier this year. Miller served as an usher at the First United Methodist Church, of which he was a lifelong member. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at UNM. Services will be held Thursday, 2:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, Fourth and Lead SW. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Olsen -- Dorothy"Dot" A. Olsen, born in Salt Lake City on August 23, 1925, passed away Sunday April 27, 2003, after long battle with lung and heart disease. Dot was a wonderful mother and homemaker for her three sons while her husband served his country in the U.S. Air Force. She grew up in Salt Lake and lived in many parts of the country, living in Albuquerque since 1968. Dot loved to read, sew, solve crossword puzzles, and work at various domestic crafts. She also enjoyed playing cards on Wednesdays with her lady friends. She and her husband spent many happy hours traveling in their motor home and spending time with the Chaparral and Cuatro Estados Motor Home Clubs. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Lt. Col. (ret.) Preston Bryce"Oley" Olsen; her three sons Preston Craig Olsen and his wife, Candie of Coupeville, WA, Bradley Howard Olsen and his wife, Cathy of Placitas, and David James Olsen and his wife, Diana of Rio Rancho; her grandchildren Dana, Michael, Derrick, James, and Jason and his wife, Elizabeth; and one great-granddaughter, Cailyn. Parker -- Randall R. Parker, age 79, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2003. He was born on a farm near Waterloo, Iowa, the eldest of four sons, to Leslie Buryl and Leona Parker. He was a graduate of Parsons College, Fairfield, Iowa, receiving his MA degree from the University of Iowa. He was a teacher, principal, and school board member in the Illinois and Wisconsin schools. The family moved to Albuquerque in 1965 when he became the Business Administrator for St. Paul Lutheran Church. In 1971 he and his wife became administrators of Encino House and retired from there in 1992. He was preceded in death by his three brothers and his youngest son, Glenn M. Parker. He is survived by his wife, Mary Virginia; son, Rickford R. Parker and wife, Sandy; daughter, Romanie R. Pixton -- Barbara Rather Pixton, 67, a resident of Albuquerque since 1977, died Sunday, April 27, 2003. She was greatly loved by her family and friends, and will be missed sorely. She was born on March 18, 1936 in Las Vegas, NV. She graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1954. She attended Brigham Young University in Provo, UT, graduating in 1958 with a degree in elementary education. She taught in the public schools of Redwood City, CA, Salt Lake City, UT, and Albuquerque, NM. She was a first grade teacher at Chelwood Elementary for 14 years. In 1996, she was selected as the NM Mother of the Year. She was an active worker in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and particularly enjoyed serving in the Albuquerque LDS Temple. She married Robert M. Pixton on July 19, 1963, in the St. George LDS Temple. She is survived by her husband, Robert; eight children, Matthew Pixton, Jennifer Spinti, Candace Penrod, Laura Wolff, Sarah Slade, Peter Pixton, Allison Christensen, and Rosemarie Pixton; her mother, Theresa P. Rather; two brothers, Douglas B. Rather, Jr. and John D. Rather; and 16 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Douglas B. Rather; and a son, Andrew Seth Pixton. Richardson -- Juanita Raquel Torres Richardson was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on June 24, 1948. She went to be with the Lord on April 25, 2003, after a courageous struggle with cancer. Juanita graduated from Rio Grande High School in 1966. She attended the University of New Mexico, graduating with a BS in Elementary Education/Special Education in 1970. She started her teaching career in Belen, New Mexico. She later taught in San Jose, California; Pasadena, Texas; and Albuquerque. Her father, Sinesio Alvarez Torres and sister, Thelia Patricia, preceded Juanita in death. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Jim, and her loving children, Angela and Tony. Other family members include, her mother, Angelina Calderon Torres; her brothers, Carlos and wife, Patty; Sinesio (Snip) and wife, Mary Helen; Emilio and wife, Midge; sisters, Rose Mary (Redd) Eakin and husband, Randy; and Jo-An Torres and husband, Dean Dye. Many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews were also blessed by being a part of her family. Juanita was a devoted wife and mother. She provided her husband and children with unwavering support and love.She will be remembered for her kindness, loving nature, unselfishness, nurturing spirit and abiding strength through her faith in the Lord. She always had a humorous story; she loved to sing; and delighted in enchanting children with story telling, often with her mom. She was known for enhancing her stories and school announcements with appropriate accents. She never met a cat she didn't love. Those who knew Juanita felt truly blessed to have her in their lives. The family extends deepest gratitude to the American Cancer Society, the New Mexico Cancer Center, and the compassionate caregivers in the Presbyterian Hospital Oncology Ward and to her supportive neighbors in Tinnin Farms. Saylor -- Susan Jane (Scarborough) Saylor July 7, 1952 - April 26, 2003 Born in Trenton, New Jersey, Susan grew into a thoughtful and caring young woman in Miami Shores, FL but spent glorious summers on the N.J. shore with her wonderful grandparents and family. She attended Franklin Pearce Law Center in New Hampshire and UNM Law and was admitted to the N.M. State Bar on May 18, 1981 and the Colorado Bar on September 13, 1995. She is survived by her husband and best friend of 22 years, Rick; and her cherished and treasured children, (her Bears), Brandon 18, Jonathan 15, Christopher 13, and Grant 11, of whom she was so very, very proud and who brought her so much joy; sister, Diane MacInness and husband, Brett; brothers, Frank and Ricky; and mother, Loella; and stepfather, Dick. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank S. Scarborough Jr. Susan loved hiking with her dogs, angels and always put her family first as soccer mom, friend or school volunteer. She loved walks in the country with family, the ocean, waterfalls, snowy days, animals, travel, yellow roses, the Crystal Cathedral, family holidays and gatherings, and her treasured summers with the children on the California shore at the beach house. Susan has always been enamored with angels about whom she spoke of and to quite often. She was an ardent supporter of abused and abandoned women and children, the Shelter for Victims of Domestic Violence and the Humane Society in which she spent considerable time representing those of limited resources at no charge and with inordinate compassion. Susan was the kindest, sweetest and most generous person we have known. A celebration of Susan's life will be held at Central United Methodist Church, 1615 Copper Ave. NE at 10:00 a.m., April 30, 2003, with Dr. Charles Crutchfield and a reception will follow in Fellowship Hall. Taylor -- Elsie M. Taylor passed away on April 26, 2003 at the age of 90 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on March 20, 1913 in Maxwell, NM. She had been a resident of Albuquerque since 1945 and was a member of the Valley Gardener's Club. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Taylor, in December of 1999, one month short of their 62nd wedding anniversary. Elsie is survived by her three daughters, Nanci Easley and husband, Bill, Pat Morgan and husband, Jim, all of Albuquerque and Carole Blazick and husband, Richard of Green Valley, AZ. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Varga -- Eleanor P. Varga, 81, passed away April 26, 2003 after a short bout with cancer. Her husband, Joseph preceded her in death in 1982. Verbeck -- Charles A. Verbeck, 63, a resident of Albuquerque since 1990, was welcomed into the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, April 27, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Carmen G. Mr. Verbeck was a faithful and loving husband. He was very devoted to his sons and adored his grandchildren. Vigil -- Johnny J. Vigil, Jr. Former Democratic Santa Fe County Chairman, Johnny J. Vigil, Jr., beloved father, grandfather and brother passed away peacefully with his children at his side on April 26th, 2003 after a lengthy illness. Mr. Vigil is survived by the loving mother of his children, Olivia Richardson Vigil, his children, Linda and husband, Timothy Feeney of St. Charles, Ill, Eileen and husband, Richard Reinders of Littleton, Colorado, John Joseph III and wife, Isabel Vigil of Albuquerque; and extended family, Charles Gaines- Vigil and wife, Ruth of Espanola, Deidre Chavez-Greenly and husband, David of Colorado Springs, Colorado. His grandchildren include, Tim Feeney, Melissa and John J. Vigil IV, Sara J. Sigala, Cassandra Pojar, Julian and Alex Chavez-Greenly, Alicia, Destiny, Angel, Rene and Sheila Gaines-Vigil. He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan Jose and Teodorita Vigil; step-son, Phillip Carroll; and brother-in-law, Polito E. Martinez of Talpa, N.M. Johnny was born on March 21, 1929, in Santa Fe, N.M. He was raised with his five sisters on Canyon Road and graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1948. He attended the College of Santa Fe and served in the US Navy during the Korean War. Returning from the Navy, Johnny became active in the Democratic Party and served as Santa Fe County Chairman. He will be remembered for his work and his compassion for the people he came into contact with during his public service. Johnny had a tremendous passion for music. As an accomplished local musician, he had one of the first mariachi groups in New Mexico and a dance band known as the Tune Toppers. He shared his passion for music as a concert promoter bringing numerous well-known American and Mexican artists toSanta Fe, including Chubby Checker, Javier Solis and Vicente Fernandez. Johnny's work in radio, and his original"Jardin de Melodias" introduced a variety of Latin music to the local airwaves. Johnny's life was a gift to many and he will be missed by those who came to know and love him. Services are as follows: A rosary at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Santa Fe on Thursday, May 1, at 7:00 pm. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 2 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Interment following at the National Cemetery. She moved to Albuquerque from Detroit in 1948 and was employed as a secretary at Sandia National Laboratories for approximately ten years. She was married to Lawrence E. Stone of Albuquerque until his death in 1975. Later she was married to Guy Williams from 1985 until his death in 1990.
