Anaya -- Billy V. Anaya, 81, a resident of Albuquerque passed away March 31, 2003 in a local hospital. Mr. Anaya is survived by two sisters, Lila A. Brown and husband, Hank of Framingham, MA; and Tillie Olivas and husband Robert of Albuquerque. Billy was a retired mechanic for ABF Trucking Co. Visitations will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. A rosary will be recited Thursday at 7:00 p.m. also in the chapel. Armijo -- Mrs. Simonita M. Armijo, 88, a resident of Pena Blanca, New Mexico passed away on April 1, 2003. Mrs. Armijo is the beloved mother to Lydia Quintana and husband, Ruben, Sara Trujillo and husband, Freddie, Margie Romero and Bennie, Dorella Solis, Jimmy Armijo and wife, Theresa, Theresa Baca and husband, Herman, Gloria Garcia and husband, Gilbert. Mrs. Armijo is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Nazarita Montoya and Patsy Montoya; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Armijo is preceded in death by her husband, Santiago Armijo; three grandchildren, Angela, Danny and Richard. Mrs. Armijo was a member of the Catholic Church. A Visitation for Mrs. Armijo will be Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pena Blanca with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by the Blue Army. A final Visitation will be Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Pena Blanca with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Pena Blanca Cemetery. Ashland -- Mary Catherine Ashland (Cat/Kay), 86, a long time resident of Albuquerque, was born on May 13, 1916, in Hindsville, AR to Joseph and Gertrude Phillips. She was called home on March 7, 2003, after an illness of heart disease. Catherine is survived by her husband of 63 years, Edward L. Ashland; two daughters and their spouses, Sharon Richards and husband, Darrell of Watsontown, PA and Linda Dotson and husband, James of Albuquerque; and a daughter-in-law, Charlotte Ashland of Eugene, Oregon. Catherine was preceded in death by a son, Donald E. Ashland. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Phillip and Mark Ashland of CA, Matthew Ashland of OR, James Holloman of PA, and Jessica, Nichol and Stephanie Dotson of Albuquerque; and six reat-grandchildren. Catherine was a long time member of Crestview Baptist Church of Albuquerque. She was a devoted wife and mother, tirelessly giving to help anyone in need. She was loved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed. Services will be held on Friday, April 4, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary  Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Blackburn -- David R. Blackburn, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away Monday morning, March 31, 2003 while being treated at Lovelace Medical Center for numerous Medical conditions. After he graduated from University of New Mexico, with a Bachelors Degree in Business, his primary occupation was land agent / consultant in acquiring real estate property, licenses / permits, and right of ways pertaining to various pipeline expansions. He is survived by his father Ralph L. Blackburn and his wife Karolyn, sister Lois Ann Pemberton and husband Todd; nephew, Benjamin James Pemberton and partner of many years Christine Ryan and daughter, Michelle Ryan; nieces, Michelle Yingling and Christin Yingley and brother-in-law, Mike Yingley, along with other close living relatives and friends. Bravo -- Justo Baladjay Bravo died on March 31, 2003 at his home in Rio Rancho at the age of 85. He was born on December 5, 1917 in Ipil, Barbaza, Antique, Philippines to Feliciano Tan-Bravo and Perpetua Baladjay Bravo, the last of 12 children. He graduated from Antique High School with honors in 1935. He then moved to Manila where he attended Adamson University, graduating in 1939 with a BS in Chemical Engineering with honors. While at Adamson University he met Aurora Motomal whom he married in 1942. During World War II he served in the US Armed Forces in the Far East as a first Lieutenant. He was captured by the Japanese and spent one year as a prisoner of war. After the war he returned to Adamson University to teach. In 1949, he won a Navy fellowship to pursue further education. He immigrated to the United States in 1949 to the University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS to pursue a doctorate and also to teach chemistry. In 1950 Aurora and their three little daughters joined him in Kansas. In 1953, he received his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Kansas. For the next 15 years he worked in the chemical industry developing lithium fuel cells for the Apollo missions. 1954 was a proud year for Justo when he achieved American citizenship. In 1968, he returned to his great love, teaching, as Professor in Chemistry at West Chester University, West Chester, PA. While there, he developed an American Chemical Society approved graduate program in Chemistry. Upon his retirement in 1982, he was conferred Emeritus Professor status by West Chester University. A few years ago, he was pleased to see the new Chemistry building that he planned while he was Chairman of the Department of Chemistry. In 1982, he and Aurora then left Pennsylvania to spend their retirement years in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. One of the greatest blessings in JustoΙΉs life was the birth of his 6th grandchild, Jesse Bravo-Spiegel, in 1988. For the past 14 years, Justo and Jesse have been the greatest of friends as well as having an extraordinary close relationship of grandfather and grandson. Justo is predeceased by his wife, Aurora in 1996, and one daughter, Lisa Bravo Nast in 1972. Besides Jesse, he is survived by daughters, Desi Bravo, Merriam, KS; Eleanor Bravo and Stephen Daniels, Corrales, NM; Binney Nast, Camarillo, CA; grandchildren, Mark and Beth Schaffer, Christy Bravo and Christopher Coleman, Kansas City, MO; JB Nast and Liz Durkin, Phoenix, AZ; Jeffrey and Jennifer Nast, Lansdowne, PA; Gregory Schaffer, Seattle, WA; and three great-granddaughters, Juliette Nast, Olivia Nast and Amy Schaffer. He was loved and admired by all who knew him for his honesty, integrity and love of family and friends, and for his adopted country. Visitation at Vista Verde Mortuary, 4310 Sara Rd. Calabaza -- Delfino Calabaza, age 56, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, Monday, March 31, 2003. Delfino was born in Santa Fe, NM and was a resident of Albuquerque. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of The Most Holy Rosary; a proud Veteran of the United States Army who served our country during the Vietnam War; and was a member of the American Legion Post #69. Delfino enjoyed golfing, hunting and volunteering for West Mesa Little League Baseball; he was avid reader of Indian history. He was known for his involvement in Native American politics; he wrote many New Mexico Tribal Grants. Delfino will always be remembered by his loving, caring and compassionate nature. He was preceded in death by his parents Santiago and Reyes Calabaza. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Calabaza of the family home; his wonderful children, Daphne Griffin and husband Darryl, Delfred Calabaza and LaNetta Castillo, Kyle Calabaza; and one grandson, D.J. Calabaza all of Albuquerque. Also surviving are his mother in law, Mary B. Chavez of Ignacio, CO; numerous brothers; sisters; and other relatives all of Santa Domingo Pueblo, NM. Delfino will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those who knew and loved him. Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, April 1, 2003 in Santa Domingo Pueblo, NM. Leech -- Marian I. Leech, 91, a resident of Albuquerque since 1937, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2003. Marian was born on January 31, 1912 to Peder and Clara Pederson in Dover Township, North Dakota. She graduated from Trinity Hospital School of Nursing, Minot, North Dakota in 1933. She was recruited to work as the operating room nurse supervisor at the Southwestern Presbyterian Sanatorium, Albuquerque in 1937. She remained in that position until her retirement from Presbyterian Hospital in 1975. Marian was married to Oscar Leech on June 5, 1946 and he preceded her in death on May 28, 1951. She has been an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church since 1940. Marian was preceded in death by her siblings Lillian Reisch, Myrtle Johnson, Gladys Dobson, and Russel L. Pederson. She is survived by sisters Edna McKillop, Monterey, California and Eva Ellis, Billings, Montana, brother Clarence Pederson, Vernal, Utah, and 20 nieces and nephews. Locally she is survived by nephew, Russel D. Pederson and his family. Marian was a devoted friend to Fred and Anita Smith and"Nanny" to their children, Brian Smith and Elisa Baca. She shared her love and laughter with all those around her and wanted nothing but happiness for all she cared for. She will be missed greatly by her family and all who knew her. The family wishes to express their special thanks to the staff of Marler Manor and Zia Hospice for the care Marian received. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Monday, April 14, 2003, 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1100 Indian School NE. Locher -- Maureen Grace Locher, 58, a long-time resident of Albuquerque passed away at her home on April 1, 2003. Maureen is survived by her loving parents Gerald and Mary Locher of Albuquerque; brothers, Bob Locher of Albuquerque, Dennis Locher, wife, Chris and their son, Travis of Rio Rancho, NM, Ron Locher and wife, Linda Scalise of Yuba City, CA; nieces, Catherine Locher of San Diego, CA, Christine Locher of Chico, CA, Carrie Boarder of Berkeley, CA; nephews, Brian Locher of Chico, CA, and Bobby Boarder of Yuba City, CA; and her long-time special friend and caregiver Bev Elkins. Maureen graduated from Manzano High School. Ms. Locher graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage with a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education, while in Alaska Maureen worked on the Alaskan pipeline and the North Slope. Maureen was employed by Sandia Nat'l Labs. Private cremation has taken place and at Maureen's request no services will be held. Pino -- Eddie Pino, 49, a resident of Bernalillo passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his loving family on March 31, 2003. Eddie is survived by his sons, Edward Pino and Vince Pino; his loving mother, Mary Pino; Fiance, Rebecca Lucero; one sister, Geri Pino-Palacios; three grandchildren, Jacob Marquez, Jonathan Pino and Emiliano Lucero; two nieces, Ashley Palacios and Stephanie Palacios; step-children, Amy Lucero and Ruben Lucero; former wife, Ida Pino; many aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, and friends. Eddie is preceded in death by his father, Joe S. Pino. Eddie was raised in the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was employed with the City of Albuquerque for the last 32 years and received many honors and certificates, and he was a student at Rio Grande High School in the late 1960s. A Visitation for Eddie will be Thursday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Rio Grande Seventh Day Adventist Church, 5200 Iliff NW with a Prayer Service to be held at 7:00 p.m. by Pastor Soto and Pastor Rico. A final Visitation will be Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Rd. Reynolds -- Kathryn Isabel Sandel Reynolds was born March 2, 1913 in Center, TX and died on March 31, 2003 in Albuquerque, NM after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. (Bob) Reynolds and her brothers, Edwin Sandel, Laurie Sandel, George Burton Sandel, and James Sandel. She is survived by two daughters, Kathryn Melissa (Missy) Reynolds Simnacher of Albuquerque, NM and Patricia Ann Reynolds Daily of Carbondale, CO; three granddaughters, Erinn Melissa Simnacher Burch of Clovis, NM, Amanda Lynn Simnacher Walter of Lafayette, CA and Meredith Renee Daily of Carbondale, CO; and one great-grandson,Connor Armstrong Burch of Clovis, NM. She is also survived by many loving cousins, nephews and nieces and friends. Kathryn grew up in Center, TX. She supported the war effort for World War II, as a laboratory technician with Gulf Oil in Port Arthur, TX and she married Bob Reynolds shortly after he returned from Coast Guard duty in the Sea of Japan. Kathryn and Bob lived in Tyler, TX, Victoria, TX, and Eldorado, AR. They moved to Plainview, TX in 1958 and lived there until their daughters were out of high school. Their last move together was to Austin, TX where Bob entered the real estate business until his death in 1974. Kathryn returned to Center for about 25 years. She moved into Las Colinas Village in Albuquerque, in 1998, to be closer to family. She will be remembered most for her love of dancing, golf, and the Dallas Cowboys. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother with a quick wit and great sense of humor. She so enjoyed the mountain scenery and the beautiful blue skies of New Mexico and was always happy that sheΙΉd made the decision to move to Albuquerque. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2003 at the Aquinas Newman Center, 1815 Las Lomas Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM. Salazar -- Mary Salazar, age 87, passed away on April 1, 2003. She was born in Pagosa Springs, CO on February 17, 1916. Mary enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She loved the outdoors and dancing and being surrounded by family and friends. Mary is preceded in death by her son, Ben Martinez and grandson, Anthony Gurule. Steel -- Joan Conway Steel, 77, a resident of Albuquerque since 1975, died Monday, March 31, 2003. She is survived by her son, Robert Steel and wife, Barbara of Santa Rosa, CA; daughters, Kathleen Steel of Riverside, CA and Patty Steel Rotonda and husband, Michael of Tijeras, NM; grandchildren, Jeff Steel, Nikki Steel Byrne and husband, Shawn, Lauren Rotonda, Jason Rotonda, Becca Saucedo; and great-granddaughter, Brianna Steel. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Richard Steel in September 1991 and son, Richard Steel in 1974. Mrs. Steel was born in Greensburg, PA on April 1, 1925 to John R. and Margaret Conway Jones. She and her future husband, Dick, were high school sweethearts and they were married in 1941. He served in the Army Air Corps, United States Air Force and the United States Army and she and their children accompanied him on his many transfers. She kept in contact with their many friends they made all over the world. Upon retirement in Albuquerque, Joan was active in the Retired Officers Association Auxiliary at Kirtland, the Military Widows Association and St. Bernadette Catholic Church. She was also active in loving and raising her grandchildren. Joan was a great friend, a loving mom and adoring grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her. Rosary will be recited Thursday, April 3, 2003, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. Friends may visit French Mortuary, Thursday, April 3, 2003, 6:00 p.m. until time of rosary. Stevens -- Amber Nicole Stevens, 15. Born June 10, 1987. Amber was returned to the Lord on March 22, 2003. She is survived by her parents, Transito Stevens of Albuquerque; Brenda Lee Stevens of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Alfredo"Freddie" Earl Stevens and grandmother, Annabel Stevens both of Albuquerque. A host of very dear family and friends. She achieved the Honor Roll at Taft Middle School. Werito -- Joe Gale Werito, age 50, was born in Albuquerque, NM., February 27, 1953. He was a lifelong resident of Tohajiilee, New Mexico. Joe, a Minister at Metropolitan Temple Church of God in Christ in Albuquerque, loved to play the guitar, sing gospel music and attend tent revivals. Joe was an avid sports fan and particularly enjoyed the Denver Broncos. He was preceded in death by his dad Gale; two brothers, Thomas and Peter; and one sister Alice. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Anna; six children, Jolene Fernando, Lori Lea Werito, Brian Werito, Abel Werito, Antoinette Lynn Werito and Aaron T. Werito; mother Elsie; three brothers, Andy Werito, Herman Werito, and Noah Werito; three sisters, Pauline Guerro, Ann Werito, and JoAnn King; six grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends who loved and will miss him. Wilcox -- Sandra Lee Wilcox, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on March 27, 2003. Sandra was born on February 28, 1947 in Pennsylvania. She loved to play the piano, and enjoyed singing. She was also very fond of painting. Sandra was an avid gardener and loved to grow her beautiful vegetables. She was a very loving mother, daughter and friend. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Sandra was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia in 1996. Zamora -- Jessie D. Zamora, age 85, beloved mother, grandmother and sister was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, Tuesday, April 1, 2003 while surrounded by her loving family. Jessie was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque; a parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Jessie loved going to Mass and to church functions when ever she could; but most of all she loved spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eloy O. Zamora; a son, Jose Luis (Louie) Zamora; and a grandson, Jimmy B. Roybal, Jr. She is survived by her loving children, Lillian V. Roybal and husband Jim, Juanita Griego, Eloy Zamora and wife Tomie; ten precious grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are six sisters, Mary Lopez, Josie Villanuvea and husband Fermin, Annie Apodaca, Genvieve Ortega and husband Ted, Margaret Munoz and husband Jose and Stella Gonzales. Jessie will be greatly missed by her loving family and by those who knew and loved her. Visitations will be held Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. A rosary will be recited Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos Rd., NW.
