He entered the Army Air Corps in 1942 and, during flight training in Denton, Texas, endured a plane crash just prior to earning his pilot's wings. However, he never let his injuries slow him down. After a 15-month hospital recovery, Albert began work with the Internal Revenue Service in Albuquerque and began his studies at the University of Albuquerque. He married Josephine shortly after on April 21, 1946, and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage. Albert worked for the Internal Revenue Service in various capacities for 34 years, retiring in 1977 as head of the Audit Division. Following his retirement, he devoted his time to his family: coaching baseball and supporting his grandchildren's sports teams and activities, practicing his handyman and landscaping skills, fishing and hunting during his leisure.
