Bachmann -- Arthur Lewis"Bachy" Bachmann Sr., 79, a longtime resident of New Mexico, passed away Monday, December 23, 2002. He was born in Wheeling, West Virginia. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps before joining the US Army where he served in the European and Pacific Theaters during World War II. Mr. Bachmann was, at one time, a stonecutter and bricklayer, but he pursued his love of music, playing in many local establishments including Sandia and Kirtland Air Force Base. He was considered one of the finest jazz guitarist in Albuquerque, and many families will remember him as the kindly banjo player at Shakey's Pizza Parlor at Louisiana and Central for 15 years. He was a member of the musician union locals 142 and 618 since 1941, resigning recently. Mr. Bachmann was married to Madelon Hammer in 1943. They celebrated their 59th anniversary on Sunday, December 22, 2002. He is survived by his loving family, his wife, Madelon; his daughter, Linda L. Smith; six grandchildren and spouses, Deanna and Bill Hoak, Julie Yearout and Bryan, Billy G. Smith, Arthur L. Bachmann III and Kari, Matthew Bachmann and Melissa, Jamie Jordan and Shawn; six great-grandchildren, Zachary, Caitlin, Blaine, Kaylee, Jordyn and Sadie; daughter-in-law, Mary Bachmann; two sisters, and his many friends in Albuquerque and Las Vegas, NM, where he lived for 13 years. In later years"Bachy" enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling with his wife. In his spare time he enjoyed his hobby of woodworking. He was preceded in death by his only son Arthur L. Bachmann Jr. in November 2001, and his son in law Bill G. Smith in July 2002. His talent, kindness, humor and wonderful smile will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be eld by Father David Kline, at St. Charles Borromco Church, 1818 Coal Place SE, Saturday, January 18, 2003, at 12:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Wednesday, January 22, 2003, at 11:00AM. Baum -- Neal Patrick Baum, died Tuesday, January 14, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Martha; sons, George and fiance, Denise, Spencer and wife, Julie; brother, Carl; mother, Mabel; in-laws, Jeannette Bush, Lois and Keith Dahlberg, Edna and Conrad Mirizio, Burton and Margie Coleman and Dottie and Henry Kreutzer. Born in Pennsylvania in 1942, Neal grew up in Syracuse, New York where he met and married Martha Coleman. After receiving his BS in physics from LeMoyne College, and his MS and PhD in solid state physics from Syracuse University in 1971, he and Martha moved to Albuquerque where they remained and raised a family. For the past 31 years, first at UNM, and later for Applied Research Associates, Inc., Neal specialized in the development of instrumentation for measurement of explosive detonation and high velocity impact. He finished his career as a principal scientist for Applied Research Associates where he directed the instrumentation effort of the Shock Physics Group. He was noted throughout the U.S. Departments of Defense and Energy for his work. In 2002, Neal received a fellowship with the Instrumentation Systems and Automation Society, acknowledging his scientific achievement as recognized by his peers. Beyond the scientific endeavors of his career, Neal was passionate about all the pursuits of the mind. He enthusiastically supported scientific education in his community, volunteering for years as a judge in the New Mexico Northwestern Regional Science and Engineering Fair. He particularly loved history, literature, and art. He leaves behind an art collection gathered from around the world, and cases of the books he read fill his home. But more than all of this, Neal was deeply cherished as a father, husband, and son. An honest, gentle, and above all, caring man, Neal greatly affected the lives of those around him with his sincerity and kindness. He will be missed. Rosary will be recited Friday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, with Kathy Garcia reciting. Mass will be celebrated Saturday, 9:30 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 1818 Coal SE, with Father Robert Chabot, SSS and Father Joseph Thai Tran, SSS, Celebrants. Pallbearers will be George P. Brooks -- Jeremy Crow John Brooks, age 27, died Tuesday January 14, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Joia Brooks; and son, Gaige Jaiden Brooks of the family home; mother, Paula McDougall of Albuquerque; father, Steven Brooks of Washington; sisters, Tisha J. Romero and husband, Randall of Tijeras and Jessica E.M. Brooks of Albuquerque; nieces, Arielle and Haelee Romero, Mariah R. Brooks, Erin M.M. Browne -- Katherine W. Browne, born August 22, 1909 in Ben Wheeler, Texas, passed away December 7, 2002 in Albuquerque. Survived by daughter and son-in-law, B.K. and Rick Woodward of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Quinn Pofahl of New York, New York, Kristi Pofahl of Albuquerque, Brit and Dusty Harvey of Albuquerque, Brady and Whitney Pofahl of Albuquerque,; great-grandchild, Griffin Pofahl. Katherine was a beloved mother and grandmother. She loved to travel all over the world but home and family was where her heart always was. She was the true matriarch of her family. Burns -- Mary F. Burns, age 82, died on January 10, 2003 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born in Coalwood, West Virginia to Willet and Ella Freer Searles. She moved from Roswell to Albuquerque in 1995. She was a Presbyterian and 50 year charter member of P.E.O. of Albuquerque and member of Reach to Recovery. As a private individual, she enjoyed reading, was an amateur gardener with roses her passion, and liked to travel the world, especially the Far East and Europe. Her husband, Robert H. Burns and a son, Bruce A. Burns, preceded her in death. Mrs. Burns is survived by sons, Robert A. Burns and wife, Sharon of Washington and William R. Burns and wife, Vicki of Albuquerque; sister, Anah Roberts of Santa Rosa, CA; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Cagle -- Gladys"Granny" Cagle, 70, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2003, in Albuquerque. Granny Cagle was born October 24, 1932 in Alma, Michigan. She is survived by son, Terry DeCamp; daughters, Linda DeCamp and Pixie Rippy; daughter in law, Kelli Schmalzried; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; other family and friends who loved and will miss her. Gladys was known as"Nanny Granny" to those close to her. Her life was filled with happiness and love, and she passed this fulfillment on to those around her. Devries -- Jeanette S. DeVries died at her home on January 12, 2003 at 72 years of age. Jeanette is survived by her children, Jennifer, Karen, and Clark Omholt; and her four grandchildren, Elise and Lexi Omholt, Zachary Roberts, and Sasha Omholt, all of Marin County, California. She is also survived by her brother, Fred Selby, of New York City. Jeanette spent her early childhood in Baden-Baden, Germany, and moved to the U.S. at age eight. Her family settled in the Philadelphia area, and she later went on to earn a Bachelors degree in Journalism from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1953, she married Ray Omholt, with whom she raised a family. In 1975, she married Ralph DeVries, and moved to Kennett Sq., PA. Jeanette was an avid horticulturist, and served as a garden guide at Longwood Gardens and the Winterthur Museum. Jeanette and Ralph, who passed away in 2002, moved to Albuquerque in 1994. He was active with the First Unitarian Church of Albuquerque and the Newcomers Club. She cherished a good game of tennis and walks in the Sandia mountains. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and a dear friend to many. A Memorial Service celebrating Jeanettes life will be held at 3:00 on Sunday Jan. 19 at the First Unitarian Church, 3701 Carlisle Blvd NE, Albuquerque, (505) 884-1801. Friedrich -- Jeanne Helen Friedrich, 74, of Grand Junction, CO went to be with our Lord January 12, 2003. Jeanne was born September 28, 1928 to Walter Michael and Gertrude (Trudy) Evelyn O' Rourke Cliffe. She spent her childhood and graduated from Loretto Academy in St. Louis, MO. She married Thomas J. Dailey who died in 1950. She married Norman J. Friedrich in St. Louis who preceded her in death. Jeanne's love of traveling, music, sports, memories and laughter will remain with us; she is greatly loved and will be missed by family and friends. Jeanne was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and deeply appreciated the visits from Father James Plugh and Molly Stucker. Jeanne is survived by daughters, Ellen Dailey of Grand Junction, CO and Susan Wade of Evansville, IN; sons, Martine Friedrich of North Platte, NE and Stephen Friedrich of Davenport, IA; sister, Evelyn Reinhardt of Round Rock, TX; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews; and her very own personal Therapy dog, Bella. In addition to her parents, she had and infant son, Jody; and sisters, Kathleen Flavin and Frances Villa precede her in death. Cremation has taken place. Gallegos -- Bessie U. Gallegos-Jaramillo, 64, a longtime resident of Los Lunas, NM, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2003. She was a member of San Clemente Catholic Church. She was known for always helping anyone in need and her children and grandchildren were the love and passion of her life. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Margarito Gallegos, Sr. in 1979 and one brother, Peter Morales in 1996. Kelsey -- James Robert Kelsey, 58, of Port Aransas, TX passed away on January 14, 2003 after a long illness. He was born on June 15, 1944 in Conroe, TX to Rex and Merlee Kelsey. He was a graduate of Alice High School, Alice, TX and the University of Texas at Austin, TX. He began his career at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque as an Aerospace Engineer in 1968 and retired in 2000 as Director of Monitoring Systems & Technology. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Linda Faye and Mary Frances. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years. Kraus -- Mary Margaret Kraus, 94, of Albuquerque, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2003. She was born and raised in Vernon Center, MN and moved to Albuquerque in 1950. Mary has many fond memories of growing up in Vernon Center, as expressed in her journal of memoirs, which she wrote for her nieces and nephews. She also spent many happy and adventurous years in Albuquerque. Mary enjoyed discussing and debating politics with family and friends, and was an avid Lobo Basketball Fan. She was a librarian for the Veterans Administration for 23 years. Mary was a member of the Newman Center, past member of A.L.A., N.L.A., N.M.L.A., S.W.L.A. and G.A.L.A. She is survived by her sister, Dora K. McGrath; nephew, Charlie Kraus and David Kraus; niece, Betsey Linsert; great-nephew, Michael Kraus; and numerous other great nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Charles and Edwin Kraus. Lane -- Helen Lorraine Lane passed away January 15, 2003. She is a fourth great-granddaughter of David Crockett who died in 1836 at the Alamo. Helen retired from the Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management as a Section Chief in 1975. She served on the Governor's Committee to investigate the Correctional Facilities of New Mexico, was a member of the Pilot Club International, had a roomful of trophies for ballroom dancing and public speaking. She was a longtime member of Toastmistress International. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman V. Lane; parents, Harry Livezey and Maude E. Beard Livezey; sister, Vera Thompson Barclay; brother, Robert William Thompson; niece, Kathryn Ann Thompson. She is survived by her nephew, Richard Lee Thompson and wife, Carol Jean; great-nephew, Glenn Ray Thompson; great-nieces, Karen Denise Thompson and Beverly Sue Thompson Griffith; cousins, Roger Dickerson, David Dickerson and Leon Dickerson. Lovato -- Harry Lovato, 67, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2003. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Trinidad and Sophia Lovato. Mr. Harry Lovato is survived by his wife, Ramona; two daughters, Joann Farrelly and Althea Montoya and husband, Ruben; two stepsons, Manuel Rubi and Pat Rubi; and one grandson, who was his pride and joy, Steven Ray Harry Farrelly. He is also survived by two sisters, Vicki Gonzales and husband, Henry, and Pearl Flores; two brothers, Trinidad Lovato and wife, Mellie and Andy Lovato. Harry was a member of San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church. Montano -- Roman"Ray" Montano passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Isabel; his son, Roman, Jr. and wife, Jennifer; and his daughter, Lisa. He also leaves behind his beautiful granddaughters, Gabriela Montano (baby Gaby) and Jene Montano (Nicolai); and his grandson and"best buddy", Daniel Montano (Klon); brother, Diego Montano; and sisters, Kay Chavira, Connie Nuanes and Toni Gabaldon. Ray was a Korean War Veteran and served Bernalillo and Valencia Counties as a Sheriff's Deputy for many years. He lived for 37 years in the house that he built with his own hands and was a devoted provider for his family. He had many wonderful friends. He was always building or fixing something and never failed to help someone in need. Oyenik -- Mr. Andrew Oyenik, born January 22, 1918 to Basil and Helen Oyenik, in Webster PA, died at his home on Saturday, January 11, 2003. Mr. Oyenik, fondly known to his family and friends as Andy, retired from the U.S. Air Force as a MSgt., NCOIC of the Special Weapons Center's 4900th Flight Test Group at Kirkland AFB, after 30 years of service to his country. Andy was active in the Real Estate industry for many years after his military retirement. Mr. Oyenik is survived by his wife, Virginia; two sons; two daughters; two sisters; one brother; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Padilla -- Libby G. Padilla, 91, died January 14, 2003, in Estancia. She is survived by her son, Lee Padilla and wife, Patricia; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five sisters; and many other loving family members. Reese -- John H. Reese, born May 11, 1908 in Cleveland, Ohio, died on January 15, 2003, at the age of 94, after a long illness. He moved from Ohio to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1948 with his wife, Margaret and their three daughters. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, their daughter, Shirley Case; son in-law, Ben Case, and the husband of one of his granddaughters, Glenn Turner. John is survived by his daughters, Margaret Morrison and husband, David, Jean Thomas and husband, Dave; eight grandsons; three granddaughters; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his second wife, Marguerite. He is survived by her son Graham Teschke; her daughter, Linda Crooke and husband, Ray; six step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. He is survived by a number of special longtime friends, as well. After retiring from Western Electric and AT & T, John worked for Bechtel in Lagos, Nigeria. He enjoyed fishing with his friends and family, gardening, traveling, and tinkering in the garage on one of his many projects. Visitation will be on Friday January 17, 2003 at Strong-Thorne Mortuary 1100 Coal Ave. SE from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2003, at 2:00 p.m., in the Palm Chapel at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, with graveside services to follow at Fairview Memorial Park 700 Yale Blvd SE. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Kerry Rhodes, Gene Rhodes, David Thomas, Jon Thomas, Brett Thomas, and Clayton Thomas. The family would like to thank the employees of Manor Care-Camino Vista, for the care and compassion given to John while in their care, and also his loyal and devoted friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE or a charity of your choice. Strong-Thorne Mortuary was entrusted to the care of John.

Scivier -- William Scivier, 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, died Thursday, January 16, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Amelia Scivier of Albuquerque; children, Sheridan Fuss and wife, Sondra, Joyce Forney and husband, Larry and Ronald Fuss and wife, Patricia, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Thomas Munsey and wife, Christine, David Fuss and wife, Robin, Lisa Fuss, Brenda Detmer and husband, Todd, Alan Fuss and wife, Elizabeth and Scott Forney; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Connor and Hunter; brother, Robert Scivier and wife, Kath; and sister, Eve Howard-Jones, all of England. Mr. Scivier was born in England. He served with the Royal Air Force before moving to Albuquerque. Mr. Scivier worked with Safeway Stores as a manager for 30 years. Tafoya -- Mr. Samuel Tafoya Sr., 89, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on January 15, 2003 peacefully at home in the arms of his loving family. Mr. Tafoya is survived by his four daughters, Dora Segura and husband, Tom, Estefanita Tafoya de Sena, Theresa Houston and husband, Robert, Dolores Ulibarri and husband, Dave; two sons, Andrew Tafoya and wife, Ramona and Martin Tafoya; one brother, Ernest Tafoya and wife, Ramona; two daughters-in-law, Martha Tafoya and Vivian Lee Tafoya; sons-in-law, James Manning; five sisters, Irene Vigil and husband, Bonafacio, Marie Lovato and husband, Ignaocencio, Mercy Crollett and husband, Seferino, Lisha Trambley and husband, Frank, Katie Martinez and husband, Alfonso; 35 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Tafoya is preceded in death by his wife, Trinidad Tafoya; sons, Ernest, Tommy and Deacon Sam Tafoya Jr.; a daughter, Evangeline Manning and a son-in-law, Felix B. Sena. Mr. Tafoya was a member of the Catholic Church and a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. A Visitation for Mr. Tafoya will be Friday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal SW with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Deacon Tibo Chavez. Tull -- Wilfred O. ¯Coach¯ Tull, 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1977 passed away peacefully in his home after a long battle with cancer. Coach Tull died in the presence of his wife and daughter on Tuesday January 7th, 2003. He was born in Trinidad & Tobago on October 5, 1916. Coach Tull retired from the United Nations in 1976 where he worked for 20 years. As an Olympian, husband, father, grandfather, friend and coach, he will be missed by the many whose lives he touched. As an Olympian he was the first athlete to represent Trinidad & Tobago at the XIV Olympics in London, England, in 1948. As a husband he truly was the head of the household. As a father he was a disciplinarian and provided us with the tools to be independent, and instilled in us a work ethic to always be the best. As a grandfather he wanted the very best for his grandchildren and was always there for them. As a friend he was supportive of those who needed his time and energy. As a coach he worked hard to bring out the very best in each of his athletes. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Monica; his sons, Julien Tull; Wesley Foster; Robert Foster; Wilfred Tull, Jr.; Wendell Tull and wife, Angela; and his only daughter, Hazel Tull-Leach and husband, Ken, as well as grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, January 18th at 1:30 p.m., at St. John¯s Episcopal Cathedral, 318 Silver Ave. SW, with The Rev. Gary Meade officiating. Walker -- Bertha"Bert" Walker, 83, a resident of Albuquerque for 60 years, died Tuesday, January 14, 2003. She is survived by her sisters, Betty Randall, Jody Pelot and Ida Woods of Albuquerque and Anna Bates of Florida; brother, Dallas Wells of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Christine, David and Sean and their mother, Beth Walker; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Damon Walker; and son, Allen Walker. Bert was a member of Central United Methodist Church. She worked for Greyhound Bus Co. for over 20 years. Wolcott -- Mary Elizbeth Wolcott, former resident of Albuquerque from 1956 to 1977 died December 31, 2002, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was the daughter of Clifford Wolcott and Mary Ann Salladay. She was preceeded in death by her parents; and a sister, Frances Wolcott. She is survived by a sister, Agnes Cameron of Kalamazoo; and a nephew, Craig Cameron of Angola, Indiana. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, January 18, 2003 at 9:30 a.m. at the Chester T.
