Doeren -- Lola Grace Doeren, 76, a 35-year resident of Albuquerque, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2003 from complications due to advanced diabetes. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Earl, Lt. Col., USAF (Ret); four children; Stephanie of Albuquerque, Stephen of Springfield, MO, Bruce, of Albuquerque, and Bob of Durango, CO; and seven grandchildren, David, Dustin, Graham, Michael, Cara, Ryan and Miquela. Both she and her husband were raised in the De Pere /Green Bay area of Wisconsin, and met after Earl returned to his home town after four years in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Her parents, both deceased, were Ralph and Luella La Fortune. She also had three siblings, all deceased, Ruth, Maynard and Kenneth (who died in WWII). The family owned a small neighborhood store in Green Bay. Grace spent much of her life moving with her family to different Air Force postings throughout the period of the Cold War. The places they lived included Japan, Alaska, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Colorado. While in Colorado, Col. Doeren was stationed at the newly built North America Air Defense Command (NORAD) deep inside Cheyenne Mountain at Colorado Springs. Col. Doeren retired from the Air Force in 1968, and the family moved to Albuquerque. Grace was known for her outgoing friendly personality, and was well liked by almost everyone she met. One of her main passions was early Americana and antiques, including beautiful pieces of furniture that have passed from generation to generation in her family. Her home was replete with numerous early Americana handicrafts and period-piece photographs, and she went all out to seasonally decorate her home at such holidays as Easter and Christmas. She loved the holidays, decorated her whole house, and created beautiful Christmas trees and presents. Grace also had a beautiful voice and often sang in church choirs. She delighted in watching movie comedies from the video stores, and laughed heartily at every punch line and sight gags in such films as Kingpins, Naked Gun, and Analyze This. Grace also loved to play bridge, and played regularly at Bear Canyon Senior Center. Cooking was another of her main loves, sticking mainly to the Wisconsin food she grew up with. She especially loved to bake pies, cakes, cookies and candy. At Christmas times, when her family was together, she made so many treats they filled almost every cupboard in her kitchen. She also hid some of it in secret places so her children wouldn't find all the treats and eat them all up before Christmas. Gallegos -- IN LOVING MEMORY OF JERRY ANTHONY GALLEGOS, SR. May 7, 1954 - January 16, 1994Don't be sad that I am gone, for I am still here in all of the Beatles' beautiful songs. It is all right if remembering me hurts and makes you cry, for I am still here and did not really die. I am up in the beautiful Wind River Mountains in Lander, deep in the snow, that special place in Wyoming that I loved so. I am with my son Jerry; fishing in Colorado and telling him what a great job he has done in making me a Grandpa. I am with Noah at school at the Mount far away from home. But tell her I am watching her become a beautiful young woman and not to be too hard on the cigarette smoke. That could be me. I just haven't been able to quit yet! I know Dommers will graduate from Sandia Prep this year. Congratulations Dommers, nice ride!! And tell your mom it's cool if you really want to go to UNM instead of Notre Dame. Also know that I have been working hard getting to know my other son Anthony and my other beautiful daughter Celestria. Only if we had had just a little more time. Please know how much I love you both. Tell Herc and Netsie how proud I am of their success. But most of all Mom and Dad, I am with you every day. You were my strength and my spirit. Oh, how I miss you so. I still see Dad drinking coffee out of my BMW cup and wearing my winter robe. Just remember that I am a breeze caressing your face, so when you all are feeling blue or sad, let my love ripple and be glad and thankful that I'm in God's hands now and my soul is now at rest. You know I have had some great times with Grandpa Jose and Grandma Fela. In fact, Grandma Lena and I have made some great chili together. Father Madrid and I spend most of our time fishing. Boy, the fish up here are great!!! All in all it is a great place to be. I know our family chain is now broken and nothing seems the same; but as God chooses, one by one, the chain will link again. WE LOVE AND MISS YOU, (Our Scooter Tramp!!) Mom, Dad, John Nep, Netsie, Wayne, Dominic, Big No and our new Tobers, aka Buster

Lee -- Caroline Dured Lee lost a long battle with cancer January 12, 2003 but she fought courageously until the very end. She was born November 27, 1934. She is survived by her husband of 12 years, Robert Ellis of Albuquerque; daughters, Holly Adams, Erin Adams and their husbands of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Sage Simpson, Max Corney and Kit Corney. Her surviving sisters and brother are Linda Morsmann of Santa Fe, Melissa Lawson of Fort Worth and Willis Lee of Santa Fe. Caroline was an instrumental part of the Taos art scene recently helping her husband renovate the Harwood Museum of Art. They had recently relocated to Albuquerque from Taos just before her death. Born in Dallas, she grew up in Fort Worth and lived for 25 years in San Antonio where she became very involved in the art world in which she wore almost every hat from artist to gallery owner to university level teacher to lecturer to writer to fine art appraiser. Throughout the 1970's, Lee, an accomplished painter in her own right endeavored to bring the work of local fiber, ceramic and metal crafts artists to San Antonians while simultaneously developing and refining her own sense of artistic quality. In 1980 she opened Objects Gallery which was soon to become one of the leading venues in the state of Texas for the exhibition of fine art, crafts, and folk art. Collectors came from around the state to appreciate the result of her incomparable"eye". Then in 1985, she opened the first gallery of folk art in San Antonio. The work of now famous Mexican folk artists were brought to the attention of the American public in an appropriate setting. While in Taos, she sat on the national board of the American Society of Appraisers and became a well respected appraiser of 20th Century fine art. She and her husband had both been honored for their cultural contributions to the arts in Taos. Lee was of course far more than a gallery owner or even an artist and mother, she possessed an incomparable flair and passion for the indispensable accoutrements of life; high fashion, art, good food and close friends. She lived every moment to the fullest and loved life, traveling many places and partook of life with her heart and mind wide open. In lieu of flowers, she asked that donations be sent to the Children's Art Program at the Harwood Museum of Art in Taos. A Memorial will be held at the French Mortuary at 7121 Wyoming at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 16, 2003 with a reception afterwards. Memorials in Taos and San Antonio will be scheduled in the near future. All will miss her dearly. French Mortuary 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE 823-9400

Vargas -- Monica J. Vargas February 1, 1970 - January 16, 2001Memories of your children are like a rose... When a child dies our memories are held tightly with lots of pain, just like the tightly folded petals of the rose, but with the many thorns to stick and prick causing pain. As we talk about our child and share memories with others, we begin to open ourselves to healing as the rose petals start to open ever so gradually. Just as a rose becomes more beautiful as it blooms, so do the memories of our child. Yes, the thorns are still there and will hurt when touched, but oh how beautiful the memory of our children! Share the memory of your child so that the memory can start to bloom to become as beautiful as the rose.We miss you so much, Mom, Bob, Marty, Peanut, and your Ryan
