Apodaca -- Mr. Misais Apodaca Jr., 74, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on December 22, 2002. Mr. Apodaca is survived by two daughters, Yvonne Apodaca, Angie Zazueta and husband John of California; one son, Simon Apodaca and wife Geri of Az.; six grandchildren, Jessie, Jozette, Simon Jr., Angel, Raymond and Alicia; 13 great grandchildren; two sisters, Clara Gutierrez and Helen La Granche; three brothers, Porfirio Apodaca and wife Lillie, Pete Garcia and wife Roberta, Walter Ulibarri and wife Sally. Mr. Apodaca was a Veteran of the U. S Air Force serving during World War Il. A visitation for Mr. Apodaca will be Friday morning from 8:30 a.m. until 8:45am in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Rd SW with a Funeral Service to be held at 8:45am by Pastor Lee Wilson. Bruington -- John M. Bruington, 82, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, died Monday, December 23, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Flora Castillo Bruington; brothers, George Bruington, both of Albuquerque and Charles C. Bruington of Kingman, AZ; daughter, Cecilia Genero and husband, John of Albuquerque; son, Norbert H. Padilla and wife, Ofelia of Bosque Farms; daughter, Eileen Naccaratto and husband, Ken of Albuquerque; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Bruington was preceded in death by his sister, Rowena Sherwood; brothers, Gene, James and Bob Bruington; and grandson, John E. Genero Jr. He retired from Crane-O¯Fallon Plumbing Supply after 30 years. Mr. Bruington was an avid fisherman. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Friday, 3:30 p.m., at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph A. Genero, Harry A. Carpenter -- Frances R. Carpenter, 73, went home to be with the Lord on December 20, 2002. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, three brothers; and three grandsons. He is survived by his wife Ruth, of 53 years; daughter, Gladys McDonald and husband; son, Dr. Robert Carpenter; daughter, Heather Martinez and husband, Jerry; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters; one brother; and many nieces and nephews. He was a Naval Veteran, retired from Santa Fe Railroad after 38 years, then took care of the Sacristy of San Felipe De Neri church for nine years. A Rosary will be held on Thursday, December 26, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at San Felipe De Neri Church. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 27, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at San Felipe De Neri Church. Carroll -- Mary Helen Carroll. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated for Mary Helen Carroll, 83, of Albuquerque, on Friday, December 27, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Place SE. Miss Carroll was born in Baltimore, MD and was a longtime resident of Albuquerque. She died peacefully at home on December 21, 2002. She was very active politically, working for social justice as well as local ministries and charities and international social justice movements. She was an active member in Church Women United. She truly walked in the footsteps of Christ. She was a friend to the poor and a voice for those who had no voice. A former sister of the Medical Missionaries, she served as a nurse/midwife for ten years in Pakistan and India. She was also instrumental in building hospitals in India. After leaving the Order, she operated a midwifery clinic for women in the Albuquerque area. She is survived by two nephews, Charles C. and Joseph R. Milton of Ormond Beach, FL; Mary C. Milton and Suzanne C. Milton of New York City, Joan Thorsen of Montclair, NJ, and Patricia Christensen of St. Augustine, FL; several great-nieces and nephews; one great-grandnephew; and two great-grandnieces, as well as a host of very dear friends. She will be greatly missed. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the charity of your choice.

Chappell -- Mary Jone Harrington Chappell, 70, peacefully passed away at home in Corrales on Sunday, December 22, 2002, while surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Buddie Chappell, son, Norman ¯Ned¯ Chappell and his wife, Jeannie McNeil Chappell, daughters, Dorothy Schroeder and Debbie Dickinson and her husband, Steve Dickinson, and grandchildren, Travis Schroeder, Jessica Yasuda, Daniel Packard, Elise, Derek and Sean Chappell, and a multitude of loving relatives and friends. Although Jone had many interests and talents, her primary focus was to build and maintain a strong, loving family and home. Jone loved the mountains and she and Buddie spent many happy hours with family and friends at the cabin they built together in Southern Colorado. She was a patron of the arts and was, at one time, very involved with Art Fest. Another passion Jone pursued was genealogy and for many years, she edited and published the quarterly newsletter for the Albuquerque Genealogical Society. Between visiting her children and grandchildren and traveling the world, Jone found time to make quilts, do historical research, paint, play bridge and bowl. She will be remembered by everyone as a gracious, loving and beautiful woman. In lieu of flowers, Jone would be honored by donations to any of the following organizations: Corrales Public Library; The American Cancer Society; The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society; or any shelter for battered women and children or homeless families. Donahue -- James Leighton Donahue, Lt Col, (Ret.) USAF, 59, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away December 22, 2002, after a long and valiant fight against cancer. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Donahue; daughters, Kari Garcia and Cristin Hanes; sons, Michael and Ryan Donahue; grandchildren, Devon, Miranda and Siera Garcia and Demi Hanes; former wife and mother of his children, Judy Donahue: father, James B. Donahue and stepmother, Lucille of Florida; sister, Kathleen Newman and husband, Steve of Florida; nephews, Rob Newman and wife, Judy and Jim Newman and wife, Heather; stepchildren, Leta C. Tripp and Shawn E. Tripp; and Jim's Dachshund Ruger, of 12 years. Jim is also survived by all of his in-laws, friends and co-workers who truly enriched his life and helped when he needed it the most. He was preceded in death by his mother, Erline Ann Graddy. Jim served 26 years in the US Air Force as an Explosive Ordinance Disposal officer. After his retirement, he worked for SAIC as a logistician/operations analyst. Although a quiet and strong man, he loved life, the Colorado Rockies, a good brand of Scotch, sunsets, the smell of evergreens, hunting and the love of his family. He was a lifelong member of the NRA and believes trust and integrity should always come first. Jim's favorite time of year was Christmas. Please celebrate his life during this season and toast him on that day. Special thanks to Dr. Heywood, Mary Roach, the UNM Nursing staff and UNM Cancer Center staff. Military Service will be held Friday, December 27, 2002, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, followed by cremation. Geiger -- Ed Geiger, 72, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away Friday, December 20, 2002. He is survived by his daughters, Marie Turpin of Billings, MT and Sheryl Nanco of Albuquerque; sons, Dan Geiger of Eugene, OR and Dave Geiger and wife, Lyn of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Candice Nanco and Cassie Nanco, both of Albuquerque; grandsons, Wade Turpin and wife, Chanda of Minnesota and Justin Turpin of Albuquerque; and great-grandson, Porter Turpin of Minnestota. Gutierrez -- Mary G. Gutierrez, 89 years old, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, left us on Sunday, December 22, 2002 to be with God., her husband, Felix and their son, Andrew Sr. Mary was a devoted Catholic and a member of the Blue Army. Mary is survived by her daughters, Mercy Segura and husband, Andy, Rosie Montano and husband, Bernie, Frances Gutierrez and Sarah Gutierrez, her caregiver; her sons, Tony Gutierrez Sr., and Nick Gutierrez and wife, Eloisa; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren and many more family and friends. Funeral Services for Mrs. Gutierrez will be held on Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Hernandez -- Mr. Joseph Hernandez, 80, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on December 23, 2002. Mr. Hernandez is the beloved husband of 53 years to Mrs. Helen Hernandez. Mr. Hernandez is also survived by two daughters, Gloria Quintana and husband Robert, Jennie Romero and Husband Ed; one sister, Vickie Valdez; ten grandchildren, Joseph, Michael, Thomas, Robert, Michelle, Joey, Christina, Terrance, Jeremy and Savannah; seven great grandchildren; special friends, Jessie and Debbie Delgado. Mr. Hernandez is preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Bustamante. Mr. Hernandez was a member of the Catholic Church, a Veteran of the U.S.Army, P.F.C. serving in World War I I in the 62nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion, retired from Sandia Labs after 30 years. Mr. Hernandez was a devoted husband, father and grandpa. He was a very loving and caring person and will be dearly missed. Huff -- Edith Lala Huff, born in Higgins, TX on October 28, 1911, resident of Albuquerque fro the past 30 years, passed away December 23, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Valvin Perry Huff; and daughter, Peggy Williams. She is survived by eight children, Katherine Sesma and spouse, Robert, Juanita and Lyndol Burks, James Huff, Raymond Huff, Shirley Burks and spouse, Glenn, Betty Wasierski, Nancy Bergstrom, and Elizabeth Everett and spouse, Laman; 28 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren. Monroy -- Mary Monroy, 85, passed away December 17, 2002. She is survived by her sons, Mike Monroy and his wife, Suzanne, Hubert Monroy and his wife, Suzanne; brother, Hubert Monroy and his wife, Lu; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Mora -- On December 23, 2002, Ramon N. Mora, age 78, a native of Escobosa, New Mexico and a life long resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico was called home. He survived by his wife, Eulalia Mora of 27 years. His children, Emilio and wife, Christy, Leroy and wife, Shelley, James Mora, Ronald and wife, Eva, Veronica Sanchez, Edwin and wife, Annabelle, Rebecca Martinez and husband, Jerry. His 31 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his five sisters, Catalina and Marita Pohl, Josie Garcia, Elvera Sanchez and Betty Mora Hanson from Kansas City, Missouri. His three brothers, Abelicio, Adan and Ernesto Mora. He is preceded in death by his son, Gabriel Mora; his parents, Emilio and Julianita Mora; brother, Albino Mora; and daughter-in-law, Rachel Mora. A Rosary will be recited at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2002. Sasser -- Juanita E. Sasser, 61, a resident of Mississippi and a former resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, December 21, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Bobby Sasser of Bogue Chitto, MS; mother, Fedelina Garcia of Albuquerque; two brothers, Larkin Garcia and wife, Renee of Santa Cruz, NM and David Garcia and wife, Jo of Farmington; and two sisters, Louise Shell and husband, Norman of Rio Rancho and Frances Hagel of Lajes AFB, Azores. Mrs. Sasser graduated from Sandia High School in 1960. She worked with T.W.A. for a few years and retired from the U.S. Secret Service with 30 years of service. Mrs. Sasser was very outgoing, lighthearted and very conscientious in caring for her family members. Her laughter and wit will be truly missed by all who knew her. Scarberry -- Phyllis S. Scarberry, a resident of San Marino, California since 1962, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2002 in Albuquerque. Born in Columbus, Ohio in 1921, she was a member of the San Marino Community Church, a member of the Pacific Railroad society, and a member of the Ohio State University Alumni and the Delta-Delta-Delta Sorority. In college at Ohio State University, Phyllis was president of the Women's Self-Governing Association and a member of Mortar Board. Phyllis touched many people's lives in deep and abiding ways. Her care, compassion, and interest in others, coupled with her quick wit and openness of character, gave her the ability to sustain vital lifelong bonds with her family and many friends. Phyllis had exceptional talents and qualities, including having been a schoolteacher, an avid reader and gardener, a fine photographer and a seamstress, a formidable scrabble and bridge player and an enthusiastic world traveler. Her passions included the arts, music, history, trains, cars, and team sports. Phyllis was preceded in death by her father, John H. Swoyer and aunt, Meta M. Barthman, as well as her husband, William F. Scarberry. Phyllis is survived by her daughters, Dr. Susan Scarberry-Garcia of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Janet Nura S. Stone, and Janet's husband, Aaron Stone, of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Additionally, Phyllis is survived by her granddaughters, Lana Garcia and Tania Garcia of Colorado Springs. Phyllis most enjoyed spending time with her family on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. She loved the land of Kauai, especially Sealodge, Princeville and Hanalei Bay where beauty spreads in all directions. Williams -- Homer John Williams, age 84, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, Sunday December 22, 2002, while surrounded by his loving family. Homer was born in Enemy Swim, S.D., and was a resident of Rio Rancho. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army; he enjoyed reading, music, and enjoyed watching sports of all kind. Homer is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Virginia M. Williams of the family home; his wonderful children, Susan Williams of Corrales, John Williams and wife, Marilyn Yellowman, and Margaret Williams of Albuquerque; his precious grandchildren, Rachelle, Megan, Benjamin, and Lily Williams. Also surviving is a sister, Lucille Blythe of Phoenix, AZ; one brother, Edward Willams of Sisseton, SD. Homer will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those who knew and loved him. Visitations will be Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 301 Camino de Pueblo in Bernalillo; where a Rosary will be recited at 12:30 p.m. followed by the Mass of Christian burial at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Casket bearers will be Susan Williams, John Williams, Benjamin Williams, Megan Williams, John Boyd, George Llewellyn. Honorary bearers will be Brandon Barela, Edward Williams, and Frank Blythe.
