Aldrich -- Jo Beth (Beth Smith) Aldrich, 67, a resident of Rio Rancho, died Wednesday, October 23, 2002, after a long valiant fight against cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, B. N. (Mike) and Otis (Grandy) Mason; brother, Jett J. Mason; and her beloved husbands, H.R. (Bo) Smith, who passed in 1973 and Chilton (Chili) Aldrich, who passed in 1988. She is survived by two daughters, Jimi JB Metzger, grandson, Zackary V., granddaughters, Jessica D. and Mallory J. of Cheyenne, WY; D'Ann S. and her husband, Peter E.. Panagakos, granddaughter, Lindsay A. and grandson, Brandon A. of Rio Rancho; and sister, Wacile Biffle of Albuquerque. Jo Beth Mason was born in Memphis, Texas on July 9, 1935. She lived her younger years in Silverton, TX and Amarillo, TX and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1953. She married Bo on June 28, 1952 and they moved to Albuquerque in 1960 to settle their young family and make a life. She learned the art of drafting and drew/designed houses for many years for Jenkins Construction Company and Paul's Homes. After the death of Bo, she married Chili Aldrich on September 15, 1978. Jo Beth worked extremely hard to better herself academically, professionally and personally. She received her New Mexico Real Estate/Broker license in 1980, became an appraiser and was an active member of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Board of Realtors. She and D'Ann opened Aldrich Properties, Inc., a property management company, in Rio Rancho in 1994. Jo Beth retired in March 2002 due to illness. She was an avid gardener and spent hours with her roses, calla lilies, fruit trees and vegetable garden. She was called"Green Grandma" by her eldest grandson when he was young because of the massive amount of ivy on the front of her house. This seemed appropriate due to her green thumb. Jo Beth was a talented seamstress, artist and a devoted grandmother to her brood. She wrote a book on Property Management in New Mexico and had a few copies published; however, she never distributed it. Jo Beth was highly spiritual and attended church regularly, putting all her faith in a higher power. Her best friend and companion was a large cat named Leon Grande. He will be residing with D'Ann and Peter in the future. She was a longstanding member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority (ESA), Beta Theta Chapter. She will be missed greatly by all, but not as much as by her daughters, who were devoted to her. Jo Beth was a vibrant, active woman who made friends easily due to her kind nature and radiant smile. Services will be held Sunday, October 27, 2002, at 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Memorial contributions may be made to either Lovelace Hospice Program, (our lifesavers), 5655 Jefferson NE, 87109 or to the American Cancer Society, 5800 Lomas NE, 87110.
