Barrs -- Rubin Barrs Jr., age 69, and an Albuquerque resident of 40 years died September 29, 2002. Survivors include his sister, Edna L. Smith of Albuquerque; six sisters in-law; many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Rubin retired from Yellow Freight in 2000 after 27 years of service and was a member of the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Viewing and visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 3, 2002 at Strong-Thorne Mortuary 1100 Coal Ave SE. Boyer -- Sylvia Rose Boyer, age 62, beloved and devoted wife, mother and grandmother was called home to be with the Lord, after a long illness on Friday, September 27, 2002. Boyer resided in New Mexico, and was as well a long time resident of Hawaii. She is survived by George Boyer, her husband of 42 years; and her three children, Earl R. Boyer and wife, Sue of New York, Charlene M. Johnson and husband, Jerry of Colorado and Tammy L. Dearth and husband, Jeffrey of Indiana; as well as 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Sylvia will be missed by her loving family and by those who knew and loved her. Sylvia lived her life to the fullest through her family and numerous friends. Candelaria -- John (Johnny) Candelaria, age 79, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle was called home to be with the Lord, Saturday, September 28, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Candelaria; daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Tom Isselhard of Albuquerque; beloved grandchildren, Derek and Leslie Isselhard of Albuquerque; sister, Ella Montoya of Victorville, CA; brothers, Tom Candelaria and wife, Rose of Fresno, CA, Ramon Candelaria of Albuquerque, Joseph A. Candelaria of Fresno, CA, James Candelaria and wife, Irma of Houston, TX and Eloy Candelaria and wife, Terri of Albuquerque; and sister-in-law, Feliciana Candelaria of Albuquerque and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His parents Joe and Rose Candelaria, son, John Candelaria Jr., brothers, Jerry and Alberto and sister, Sefora, preceded him in death. John was born on May 4, 1923 to a family with long heritage in Albuquerque. He and his family are heirs of the La Merced De Atrisco established in the 1700's. John entered the U.S. Navy on June 5, 1942. He and Mary were married on April 9, 1944 in Los Angeles, California. Upon John's departure from the Navy he and Mary came to Albuquerque to establish their home and John began his first career as a barber. He later opened two barber shops and became a known member of the North Valley community. John and Mary, also, bought and operated a Dairy Queen for many years. After leaving a career in barbering he entered the Bernalillo Sheriff's Department and began a second career in law enforcement. This was his place of retirement from traditional employment. Upon his retirement, John and his wife, Mary began their more active career in the Lord's work. They began working with various outreach groups in Albuquerque and then began their missionary work in Mexico. They were able to make numerous visits to Mexico to witness and spread the Lord's word. John will be remembered as one who entered peoples lives and brought laughter, joy of spirit and the Lord's generosity. He became a dear and special friend to the people who entered his life through family, work, ministry and community. He emulated the joys of life and the spirit of giving. He was the caretaker of his children and grandchildren--they loved and admired him dearly. He was a great storyteller, jokester and tease. John's missionary work in Mexico was dear to his heart. His love was to minister through his guitar music. John's family is comforted in the knowledge that he is with the Lord. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at Glorybound Ministries, 11913 Menaul Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Internment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations or memorials to his memory be made to the John Candelaria Mission Fund at Well's Fargo Bank. Chavez -- Modesto C."MC" Chavez March 15 ,1915 - October 1, 2002 Modesto C."MC" Chavez, 87, a life long resident of Peralta, NM, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, October 01, 2002. Mr. Chavez was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Eva G. Chavez on September 16, 1998. He is survived by his three daughters, Stella Apodaca and husband, Joe of Bosque Farms, Lydia Baca and husband, Alex of Peralta, and Ida Mae Rakes de Chavez of Albuquerque; and one son, Eddie M. Chavez and wife, Kathy of Peralta; eight grandchildren, Ramona Wolfe and husband, Ben, Ramon Perea and wife, Tina, Evangeline Rodriquez and husband, Jose, Richard Baca and wife, Carmen, Nanette Rosas, Joshua Chavez and wife, Jennifer, Craig Chavez and Suzy Wulf, Danielle Adkins and husband, Ronnie; 16 great-grandchildren; three brothers; one sister; and many close friends and relatives. Cowdrey -- Dorothy Ann Cowdrey, 83, a resident of Albuquerque since 1991, died Tuesday, October 1, 2002. She is survived by her sisters, Evelyn Marie Ellis and husband, Nevin of Arkansas and Jeanette Grimes and husband, Jack of California; and caregivers, Doug and Mary Sue Whitaker of Tijeras and many friends. Mrs. Cowdrey was preceded in death by her brother, William D. Williams. She enjoyed watching all sports on TV and reading books of all kinds. Her personality was generous and kind hearted. Danforth -- Robert"Bob" Danforth May 11, 1927 - September 30, 2002Robert"Bob" Danforth, 75, a long time resident of Belen passed away on Monday, September 30, 2002. He was an avid bowler at Sugar Bowl Lanes and Bosque Farms Bowling Alley. Bob was a well-known businessman owning and operating"Bob's Welding" for over 31 years. He was also known around the community for his love of music and dancing. Preceding him in death were his mother, Ethel Danforth in 1993; his father, Harry Danforth in 1945; and his sister, Betty Doty in 1975. Bob is survived by his loving daughter, Nicole Danforth and her fiancé, Marcus Head of Tennessee; and his sister, Thelma Coffey and her husband, Herman of Belen. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many dear friends. All services will be held at the Romero Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will take place on October 2, 2002 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, October 3, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. and will follow with interment at Terrace Grove Cemetery. Irick -- Lee Brownlow Irick, 20, a student at the College of Santa Fe died Saturday, 28 September 2002 after a brief illness. A gentle giant of a young man, he will be greatly missed by his fellow students and extended Family.¯Lee was born on Febuary 1, 1982, in Albuquerque, and as a child attended Manzano Day school. In 1994, he moved with his mother, Melinda, to Gallup, where he graduated from Gallup Highschool in 2001. At the time of his death, he was studying Moving Images as sophmore at the College of Santa Fe¯where he was also a class senator during his freshman year. He worked in the fast food industry while in high school and during his summer vacations. His interests included film, and playing music with his best friend, Jim. He is survived by his mother, Melinda Hirst; his father and stepmother, John E. and Patricia Irick; his¯ maternal grandfather and stepgrandmother, Lee and Marie Hirst; his maternal grandmother, Linn Hirst; his paternal grandmother, Gayle Irick; his sister, Mara Harrell and his stepbrother, Abe Plotsky. Other surviving relatives include Paula Alcon, Dan and Jody Irick, Sally and Dan Pearson and his numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John B. Irick, a New Mexico state legislator and politician.¯The family would like to extend a very special thank you to his heroic friend Mario Sepres, who gave Lee CPR in his final moments. ¯A memorial celebration of Lee Irick's life is set for noon Wednesday, October 2, at The Quad at the College of Santa Fe. Martinez -- Juan B. Martinez, age 89, beloved father, grandfather, and brother was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, Sunday, 29, 2002. Patten -- Helen Patten, passed away on September 30, 2002. She was born on April 24, 1909. Helen is a member of Laguna Pueblo and from the Village of Paguate. Helen is survived by her son, John M. Patten; granddaughters, Monica Patten, Melanie Patten, and Valerie Cook; great-granddaughter, Helen Vargas-Chaves, and she is also survived by Florence Reed. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of over fifty years, James Patten, and her son, Augie Patten. Helen graduated from the Albuquerque Indian School and lived the rest of her life in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She helped raise many children and was looked upon as a¯grandma by many. Helen is remembered by family and friends. Payne -- Daniel J. Payne, age 96 and a resident of Albuquerque for the past 15 years, died on September 30, 2002. He was born in Hamlin, TX to Daniel J. and Alice Williamson Payne and spent most of his life in Roswell, NM where he was office manager for the Pecos Valley Cotton Oil Company. He also served on the Eastern New Mexico Fair Board Commission. His hobbies included fishing, golfing and hunting. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Rubinelle; a daughter, Dianna Ottmann and husband, Jim of Albuquerque; a niece, Glynne H. Galles of Albuquerque and her children, Teri Bryan, Tracee Dezzutti and Tim Galles; and his brother, Charles Polk and wife, Kay of Loving, NM. Also surviving are grandsons, Danny Ottmann and wife, Tracie of Albuquerque and Tim Ottmann and wife, Angela of Denver, CO and four great-grandchildren, Ashley Ottmann and Casey, Jake and Karli Ottmann. Poitra -- Warren Poitra, 76, passed away September 29, 2002. He served in Korea in the US Army as a Staff Sergeant and worked many years for his good friend, Johnny Barberi who owns Cork and Bottle Liquor Store. Salars -- Oscar G."Top" Salars, 89, of Silver City passed away in Memorial Medical Center, Friday, September 27, 2002. Graveside services with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post 18 and VFW Post 3347 will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at Ft. Bayard National Cemetery. Mr. Salars was born August 5, 1913 in Silver City, NM. He was the son of William Edward Salars and Sarah Ellen Roberts Salars. He was married to Lucy Lee Anderson who preceded him in death September 21, 2000. He is survived by one daughter, Kathryn Lynnette Gadberry and her husband, Freddy of Silver City; three granddaughters, Chris Jackson and her husband, Bobby, Kathy Bullington and her husband, Curtis"Buzz" and Carrie Brown and her husband, Eric all of Silver City; six great-grandchildren, Keith Wade Bullington, Erika Page Bullington, Stevi Brown, Jade Brown, Brandon Brown and Damon Narvaez; two brothers, Calvin Salars and his wife, Barbara and Joe Roy Salars and his wife, Susie. Mr. Salars was employed by the Grant County Road Department and the U.S. Forest Service. He was a member of the CCC and the Army National Guard. His enlisted time with the National Guard started in 1929 with Troop F, 111th Brigade horse calvary and ended in 1989. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He returned to Silver city and helped start the Army National Guard in 1947 with Battery B716th Gun Battalion. He worked as the maintenance technician and First Sergeant with Battery B until 1961 when he moved to Deming, NM as the supervisor of the Organizational Sergeant Major of the 2nd Gun Battalion and in 1967 he was promoted to the rank of Command Sergeant Major for the State of New Mexico and was the first Command Sergeant Major in the nation for the Army National Guard. He retired August 4, 1978 from the Army National Guard. Mrs. Salars enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, but most of all he enjoyed playing golf and played almost everyday, rain or shine. Family and friends will miss him. Sanchez -- Ramon Sanchez, born, January 19, 1958 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away as a result of a tragic motorcycle accident in Tucson, Arizona on September 26, 2002. Ramon was a resident of Tucson, Arizona for the last 6 years. He was survived in death by his father, Alfred Sanchez, Sr.; his mother, Estella Sanchez; his brothers, Alfred Sanchez, Jr., Andrew Sanchez, and Chris Sanchez. He also leaves behind his beloved"Tucson Family" and friends. He was a loving uncle, affectionately known only as"Uncle Bam-Bam" to his niece, Anita Duran, and great-nephew, Nicholas Vincent Duran. Ramon's many accomplishments included: working as a Seismic Engineer for Sergeant and Lundy in Chicago, Illinois for 9 years, building nuclear plants. While in Chicago, he was a competitor in Judo at the Jiu Jitsu Institute, where he received his International Black Belt. Upon return to Albuquerque, he studied at the University of New Mexico, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology. He then migrated to Tucson, Arizona, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arizona in Archeology, which became his passion. After receiving his degree he was first employed by Desert Archeology, and most recently worked for Western Cultural Resource Management as field supervisor and crew chief, conducting archeological surveys, survey reports and asserting archeological recommendations, and directing field personnel in excavation techniques and documentation strategies. His passion in this field was so great that his future plans included studying for his Doctorate's degree in Archeology. This also included a desire to teach in this area at the college level. Ramon's passion for motorcycles led him to becoming a member of the"Elite Club of Hoggs" in Tucson, Arizona. He fulfilled one of his lifelong dreams of owning a Harley and"riding free." His other affiliations include being a member of the United States Judo Federation with the Jiu Jitsu Institute of Chicago, where he had a"Kodokan" membership, carrying the rank of Black Belt. Ramon was also a card-carrying member of the NRA. Ramon had a passion for helping others, and a willingness to do whatever was necessary to support that passion. Memorial service will take place on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at French Mortuary - Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW (3 blocks N. of Paseo Del Norte) with Father Galli, officiating. A reception will follow at French Mortuary - Reception Hall. In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with Ray's dedication to higher education, the family is requesting that donations be made to the college fund for"Ray's Vision for the Future," Nicolas Vincent Duran, beloved nephew. Sanchez-Smith -- Sanchez- Michael A. Sanchez-Smith, 31, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, September 30, 2002. He is survived by his mother, Felicia Sanchez of Albuquerque; father, Luiz R. Sargent -- Dudley J. Sargent, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1989, and coming to New Mexico from Texas, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2002. Dudley was born June 4, 1915, the son of Benjamin Franklin and Sarah Jones Sargent in Davidson, Oklahoma. He had worked with the Singer Sewing Machine Company in sales and service before retiring. Following his retirement, Dudley drove a school bus for the Midland(TX) school district, he also was a mechanic for the Vanadium Mine in Durango, CO. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye, son, Bobby Sargent; and daughter, Rita Sargent. Dudley is survived by one son, Billy J. Sargent of Los Lunas, NM; and one daughter, Wanda Ray of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, William Ray, Michael Ray, and Gary Sargent; and two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Robert Ray. The Visitation for Dudley will be held today, Wednesday, October 2, 2002 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. The Service will be Thursday, October 3, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary with Jake Finkelstein, Elder, Idalia Congregation, Jehovah's Witness, officiating. Todd -- Erron Rae Todd, 22, died Saturday, September 28, 2002. She is survived by her mother, Donna Todd and fiancé, Geary Krontz of Albuquerque; father, Chris Todd and wife, Becky of El Paso, TX; sister, Christine Montano and husband, Josh of Vista, CA; stepbrother, David Ware; grandparents, Bob and Sandra Sherman of Lubbock, TX; grandmother, Joan Hoole of Niceville, FL; many cousins, aunts and uncles; and her intended, Chris Michel. Trampe -- Lilian Trampe, 84, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, September 30, 2002. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Taylor and husband, Bill, and Jean Herbert and husband, Howie, Jr., all of Albuquerque; son, Steven Trampe and wife, Mary of Temple, TX; grandchildren, Sean Taylor and wife, Stefanie, Michelle Taylor Baca, Nikki Burnett and husband, Andrew, Howie Herbert III and wife, Christy, Molly Herbert Martinez and husband, Bennie, Corey Trampe and wife, Natasha, Lisa Trampe and Scott Trampe; six great-grandchildren; and sisters, Florida Norden of St. Charles, MO and Frances Sullivan of Alamogordo, NM. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Trampe on June 8, 2002. Mrs. Trampe was born in St. Charles, MO and graduated from St. Charles High School. She moved to Los Alamos in 1955 and has lived in Albuquerque since 1957. Mrs. Trampe enjoyed working with the Cub Scouts. She was an avid bowler and golfer and loved traveling. Services will be held Friday, October 4, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Chaplain David Williams officiating. Private interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Wendt -- Edna L. Wendt, age 81, passed away Sunday, at 12:25 PM, September 29, 2002 in Albuquerque, due to a long fight with cancer. She was born September 16, 1921 in Proctor, Oklahoma to the late Charlie and Millie (Graham) Sanders. She is survived by one daughter, Arlene L. and her husband, Richard Fischer of Moriarty, New Mexico; three sons, David L. and his wife, Terri Wendt of Albuquerque, Gerald E. Wendt of Albuquerque, George H. and his wife, Deborah of Albuquerque; two sisters, Ella Skillern of Bixby, Oklahoma, Mildred Hamilton of Proctor, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Lynn King, Stephen Wendt, Lisa Valdez, Tammy Satterfield, Cristine Dennison, Heather Rogers-Wendt, Michael Wendt and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Wendt and her brother, Clarence Sanders. She was raised on the family farm in Oklahoma. She graduated from Haskell Indian Boarding School. While working in Washington D.C. she joined the Marine Corp. and was stationed back in Oklahoma. Passing through New Mexico she met and married Arnold Wendt in 1946. After her career with the Marine Corp. she worked with the B.I.A. and retired in 1985. She then continued to work with the family business, Interior Materials. After 54 years of marriage she was widowed in March of 2000. Even with her health problems she was always ready to go play Bingo. Visitation will be held Tuesday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., October 1, 2002 at the Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle Blvd. N.E. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, afternoon, October 2, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. also in the Fitzgerald Chapel. Following the services she will be taken back to Proctor, Oklahoma for services and interment.

Yonkers -- Theodore H. Yonkers, age 83, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2002. He was born in Whitesboro, NY, September 30, 1919, the son of John and Hannah Yonkers. Mr. Yonkers was a graduate of Colgate University in Hamilton, NY, and had a career as a self employed insurance adjuster. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Army in the CBI Region, (China, Burma, India). He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #799 of Oriskany, NY. Mr. and Mrs. Yonkers moved to Albuquerque in 1975 following retirement. Survivors include Derfla, his beloved wife; children, Alfred Williams, Kirk Williams and wife, Shirley, and Cindi Williams and husband, Peter Jamison; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cassandra Geiger. Mr. Yonkers was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4. The church is located at 1100 Indian School NE. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to St. Paul Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, or a charity of your choice are suggested.
