Beeler -- Clyde V. Burns Beeler, 96, a resident of Aztec, NM, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at home, after a lengthy illness associated with a stroke. She was born May 19, 1906 in Quanah, TX, the daughter of William and Mary Youngblood. Clyde lived in Aztec for 20 years and then moved to Albuquerque, where she lived until 1998 when she returned to Farmington. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Walter Burns in 1966 and Clyde A. Beeler in 1990; daughter, Fay Reese; and her seven siblings. Clyde is survived by three children, Eugene Burns and wife, Marg of Carney, OK, Lyle Burns and wife, Polly of Albuquerque and Lyla Atkinson and husband, Blaine of Farmington; ten precious grandchildren; 22 lovely great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Her granddaughter, Rhonda Johanson, cared for Clyde in her home during the last two years of her life. Services will be held Friday, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Rev. Clyde Stanfield officiating. Butterbaugh -- Bernice K. Butterbaugh, 90, a resident of Albuquerque for 52 years, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Butterbaugh, Jr. of 54 years. Mrs. Butterbaugh is survived by her sister, Audrey Snelson of Amarillo, TX; son, James F. Butterbaugh of Albuquerque; niece, Rita Peck of Houston, TX; grandsons, James T. Butterbaugh and Scott A. Butterbaugh; and granddaughters, Laura Butterbaugh, Louise Butterbaugh and Lucille Butterbaugh. She was born in Racine, WI. Calame -- Larry B."Papa Bear" Calame, 69, a resident of Albuquerque since 1961, died Sunday, June 23, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Bernie Calame of Albuquerque; daughters, Dolyn Jones and husband, Joey of Phoenix, AZ and Brenda Williams and husband, Greg of Albuquerque; grandson, Jerrett Williams of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Kyleigh Williams of Albuquerque; and many loving friends. Larry loved to travel, tell stories and was an avid race fan. He was kind and generous with a loving heart and had a soft spot for those in need. Larry was a proud husband, father, grandfather and a loyal friend to many. He was always happy for other people's accomplishments. Mr. Calame served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the Frisco Railroad and then worked for 39 years for TWA. After retiring, he worked at Spa and Billiard World. Services will be held Thursday, June 27, 2002, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE with Craig Davis officiating. Cremation will follow. Chavez -- Rose M. Chavez, 82, went home to be with the Lord on June 26, 2002. She was born on October 1, 1919 in Vaughn, NM. She was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Rose is survived by her brother Frank Madrid; sister, Irene Lovato; nephews and nieces, James Madrid and wife, Rita, Pat Pertner and husband, Jerry, Jessica Torres and husband, Ely, Jude Lovato; and several grand-nephews and nieces. She will be deeply missed by her loving family. A Rosary will be recited on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. also at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Chiordi -- Sophie Domme Chiordi, asleep in Jesus June 22, 2002. She had been ill for several months and had broken her pelvic bone two weeks ago. She died peacefully in her sleep. Sophie is survived by her son, Michael John Chiordi and Helen Corcoran Chiordi; and her daughter, Carol Ann Chiordi-Jones and her husband, Charles. Sophie, wife of the late John Chiordi, was a longtime resident of Albuquerque. She is also survived by her brother, Clarance Domme; sisters-in-law, Hilde Chiordi, Katherine Domme, and Wilma Domme Tashing of Albuquerque; and her sisters, Margaret Theis of St. Louis, Mary Ann Padgett and her husband, Bill of Topeka, and Sister Elizabeth Domme of Leavenworth, Kansas. Sophie had three grandchildren, Angelus Person of Albuquerque, Michelann Tachibana of Dallas, and Bryan Michael Chiordi Jones of Phoenix. She had seven great-grandchildren. Sophie's husband, John, who died in 1990, was the owner of United Wholesale Liquor Company and before that, owner of Chiordi Baking Company. Her son, Michael, is manager of Southern Wine and Spirits of New Mexico. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, June 27, 2002, 10:30, at Immaculate Conception Church, 619 Copper NW, with Father Edward Domme, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Dexter -- Grace Dexter, 77, a resident of Albuquerque since 1955, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Henry V. Dexter Jr. of Albuquerque; sons, Jack James Jr. and wife, Mary, Thomas Michael James and wife, Lana, Robert James, all of Albuquerque and Charles James of Ohio; daughter, Merriam Johnson of Florida; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Samuel Chew and Ralph Chew; sisters, Sarah Anderson, Iva Jeanne Williams and Olive Wolf; and many nieces, nephews; and friends. Mrs. Dexter was born in Lancaster, PA and moved to Albuquerque in 1955. She worked at Kirtland Air Force Base as a security stenographer. Mrs. Dexter was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a member of two Good Sam Chapters, The Zia Roamers and The Duke City Sams. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Coronado Ward. Freiwald -- Dr. David A. Freiwald, 61, a long-term resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Freiwald of Albuquerque; sons, Wes Freiwald and wife, June of Maui, HI, Todd Freiwald and wife, Wendy of Germantown, MD, and Chris Freiwald of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Jake, Ryan, Scott, and Megan, all of Germantown, MD; sister, Carol Grubb and husband, Don of Solon, Ohio; and Joyce's family here in New Mexico. Dr. Freiwald received his B.S. in 1963 and his Ph.D in 1968 from Northwestern University. He worked at Sandia National Laboratories from 1967 to 1973, and at Los Alamos National Laboratories from 1973 to 1981, part of that time in the Director's Office. In 1987 to 1991, he was director and general manager of General Dynamics Laser Systems Laboratory in San Diego, CA. Dr. Freiwald has been recognized in numerous Who's Who including the Marquis"Who's Who in Frontier Science and Technology, Marquis"Who's Who in Science and Engineering," Marquis"Who's Who in the World". He has served as President of the New Mexico Academy of Science. Other organizations and awards include, Tau Beta Pi, Pi Tau Sigma, and Sigma Xi. He was widely recognized for being innovative and had numerous patents. He was internationally respected and recognized as a leader in laser technology and defense systems, and contributed in plasma and shock wave physics. Dr. Freiwald was well known for his sense of humor. Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 28, 2002, 3:30 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Furby -- Robert E. Furby, 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1936, died Saturday, June 22, 2002. Born in Greenfield, Missouri, his family moved to Clovis, New Mexico, when he was a small child. He attended the University of New Mexico and was in the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. During World War II, he held the rank of T/Sgt. in the USAAF and was assigned to the 97th Bomb Group stationed in Italy. He worked for the Clinton P. Anderson Insurance Agency as an account representative and later in the Surety Department until he retired to play golf. Bob was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Arlene; his parents, Ralph D. Furby and Mae Evans Furby; and brother, Frank E. Furby. He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn Kortkamp and her husband, Karl; and three grandchildren, Katie, Kevin and Kerry. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2002, at 2:00 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE, with The Rev. Myron White, officiating. Gray -- Frank E. Gray passed away in Las Cruces, June 25, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Helen of Elephant Butte, NM; two sons, Ronald Gray and wife, Sharon of Dover, NJ and George Gray, RPh and wife, Esther of Las Cruces; and a daughter, Annelle Hand and husband, Daryl of Las Cruces; Helen's son, Jim Bundy and wife, Christine; and Helen's daughter, Yvonne DeWalt and husband, David of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Jeff Gray, Tim and James Hand, Francine Gray, Lisa Maynes and husband, Demos of Albuquerque, Denise Gastellum and husband, Phil; two great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances (McCan) Gray. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII. He was an electrical engineering graduate of NMSU. He worked for PNM in Albuquerque and Santa Fe from 1957 until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of Monte Vista Christian Church. He gave of his time to many organizations such as the Masonic Lodge, Lion's Club, Elk's Club, Moose Lodge, American Legion and the VFW Post 1389 in Elephant Butte. After retiring, he and his wife, Helen moved to Elephant Butte. He was associated with so many wonderful people there that he and his wife, Helen enjoyed their retirement with great contentment. A Memorial Service will be held at the VFW Post 1389 in Elephant Butte, NM on Wednesday, July 3, 2002 at 11:30 a.m.

Hendley -- Ab Hendley, 77, a longtime De Baca County rancher died Monday, June 24, 2002 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, TX following an illness. Ab was born November 28, 1924 in House, NM to the home of Andrew Albert Hendley and the former Ella Mae Franklin. He was reared and attended school and graduated from House High School. Ab served in the U.S. Navy from June 21, 1944 until his honorable discharge on June 19, 1946 as Seaman First Class, Gunner's Mate. He served on the USS Fancy and included a tour of duty in the Asiatic Pacific Area. Ab married Ruth Lowman on May 29, 1949 at the Church of Christ in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. Ab returned to De Baca County where he and Ruth worked on area ranches for many years and according to Ruth they were employed by ¯many fine people over the years. Ab was a member of the Fort Sumner Church of Christ; Mount Moriah Lodge #54 AF&AM; and Santa Fe Scottish Rite. Ab served on the Borden County School Board in Gail, TX and as a director for the American Junior Rodeo Association. He enjoyed working cattle, gardening, rodeos, loved to read, and visiting with his friends at Sprout's Café. Ab loved his family, his grandchildren were his pride and joy. Ab was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Guyla Mae Parker and Mary Ann Haskew. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Ruth Hendley of the home in Fort Sumner; four sons, Ab Hendley Jr. and wife, Deb of Friona, TX; Rick Hendley and wife, Cam of Rocksprings, TX; Roy Don Hendley and wife, Carole of Lubbock, TX and Scott Hendley of Abilene, TX; two half-sisters, Ramona Wall of Roswell, NM and Bobbie Brown of Phoenix, AZ; an uncle, Bert Franklin of House, NM and an aunt, Ruby Wallace of Alamogordo, NM; seven grandchildren, Roy Tate Hendley and wife, Katie of Lubbock, TX; Sarah Hendley of Lubbock, TX; Glynn Hendley and wife, Paige of Rocksprings, TX; Shay Hendley and Sloan Hendley of Abilene, TX; Christie Hendley and Kimberly Hendley of Lubbock, TX. Other survivors include a host of other relatives, and many good friends. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 28, 2002 from the Fort Sumner Church of Christ. Herrera -- Ruth R. Herrera, 68, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on June 25, 2002 peacefully at home in the arms of her loving family. Mrs. Herrera is survived by her son, Stan Pier and wife, Pamela; three grandchildren, Michelle Hernandez and husband, Antonio III, Michael Pieri and Nicole Pieri; one sister, Sally Chavez; and one great-grandson, Antonio Hernandez IV. She is preceded in death by her brother, Felipe Herrera. Mrs. Herrera was a member of the Catholic Church. Jaramillo -- Danny H. (Daniel) Jaramillo, 43, a lifelong resident of Bernalillo, NM, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 25, 2002. Danny was employed by the Town of Bernalillo, and will be missed by his co-workers. He enjoyed collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia, playing video games, and was an avid wrestling and Lobo fan. Danny is survived by his wife, Ida; parents, Joe and Emma Jaramillo; sisters, Diane Woods and husband, Paul, Christine Lyle and husband, Pete, Bernadette Marsh and husband, Harlan; nephews and nieces, Joseph and Patrick Lyle, Erika and Matt Gitchell, Andrew and Autumn Marsh. Also surviving, special friends, Sam and Selina Trujillo; extended family, Robin, Destiny, and Michael Nedoba; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Keller -- Lee Francis Keller joined his deceased loved ones in heaven on June 24, 2002. He was a resident of Rio Rancho for the past eight years. Lee was born April 29, 1925 the son of Tony and Elizabeth Yager Keller in Devils Lake, North Dakota. Lee served in the US Coast Guard during WW II, was a member of the American Legion Post 0099, was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus - Assembly 1905; was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, where he ushered for several years; he had held membership in the International Assn. of Bridge Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers Union Local 433 for 30 years. He worked many years as a Certified structural welder until a work related accident required a change in occupation. He attended schools to qualify as a Safety Engineer and worked in that capacity for many years. He last worked as a Site Safety Manager with the CDK Contracting Company, a subcontractor for Intel in its plant expansion during 1995-96. He retired from that position due to ill health. Lee's favorite pastime was ballroom dancing, and he loved to waltz, jitterbug, and any other dancing. Often bragged about being able to dance with two dance partners at one time. Lee had been a resident at the Rio Rancho Nursing Center since March of 2001 where he received excellent care from the entire staff, especially from his primary nurses,"Jackie" and"Jeri". Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Elizabeth; sister, Dorothy; grandson, Kyle Keller; nephew, Michael Keller; great-nephew, Jason Chavez-Keller; grandparents and aunts and uncles. He is survived by his son, Gary Keller and wife, Debbie of Kapaau, HI; sister, Rosemary Clark and husband, Clayton of Sioux Falls, SD; sister, Helen McClennan and husband,"Mac" of Spring, TX; brother, Edward and wife, Joni of Rio Rancho; numerous nephews and nieces. The Visitation will be held today, Thursday, June 27, 2002 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the Knights of Columbus service at 6:30 p.m. and the Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. Latimer -- Ken M. Latimer,"Mack", age 82, was born January 10, 1920 and died in his sleep June 20, 2002 after a long illness. He will be remembered as a vibrant and lively man that served as a crossing guard for many years. Ken will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his ex-wife, Dorothy; their children Ronald, Robert, William and Elizabeth; grandchildren, Angela, Gregory, Michael, Jennifer, Stephanie, Chris, Kathy and Maribeth; and great-grandchildren, Sherilyn, Savannah and Briana. Loesch -- John Lessenger"Jack" Loesch, age 85, a longtime resident of Albuquerque died on the 23rd of June 2002 at St. Joseph Hospital's Sandia Hospice Pavilion after a short illness. He was born October 2, 1916 in Fairfield, IA. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He moved with his family to Albuquerque in 1956. His great love was hiking in the mountains with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia. He is survived by a sister, Suzanne Kline and husband, Willard of Waterloo, IA; and three daughters, Kathie Jarrett and husband, Al of Albuquerque, Pam Hinchcliffe and husband, David of Albuquerque and Sara Frank and husband, Curt of Cupertino, CA. He was much loved by his six grandchildren, David, Benjamin, Jason, Amy, Jeremy and Bethany; and three great-grandchildren, Francesca, Anastasia and James. They loved his sense of humor and his funny stories. Cremation and arrangements are being made by Direct Funeral Services. It was his wish that no services be held. His family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Sandia Hospice.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Jose B. Lopez and Veneranda Trujillo; and sister, Elvira Parker. Leonard was a member of AARP and also the American Legion. Lucero -- William F. Lucero died Tuesday. June 25, 2002 in Albuquerque at the age of 69. He was Retired from Sandia National Laboratories. Mr. Lucero is survived by his three sons, William C. Lucero and his wife, Sandra from San Antonito, Michael Lopez and wife, Maria R. from Albuquerque, Frank Lucero also from Albuquerque; many brothers and sisters; also 11 grandchildren. Funeral Services for Mr. Lucero will be held on Thursday at San Jose Church where Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at San Jose De Armijo Cemetery. Mcnaney -- Leo Francis McNaney, Jr. died on Sunday, June 23, 2002 of cancer at the age of 63. He is survived by his brother, Bob McNaney; his daughter, Maureen McNaney and her husband, Jeff Shapusas; his son, Timothy McNaney and his wife, Julia McNaney; one grandson, Matthew McNaney; four nephews; two nieces; and dear friend, Michelle Lombard. There will be a service at Aquinas Newman Center on the UNM campus on Monday July 1, 2002 at 3:00 p.m., with a reception to follow at the Tennis Club of Albuquerque.

Orr -- William Robert"Bob" Orr, 86, died on June 22, 2002 in Albuquerque. A former Albuquerque resident who recently moved back to the city to live with his son, Charles and wife, Wendy, Bob had lived in Alamogordo, NM for 46 years. Born to Presbyterian missionaries in Puerto Rico in 1916, Bob lived in Colorado and New Mexico as a child. After attending college in Kansas and Colorado, he served as an officer in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He flew many missions as a B-25 navigator in the Solomon, Gilbert, and Marshall Islands of the South Pacific. In 1944, in Ft. Lupton, CO, he married his beloved wife, the former Marion Scott, who died in 1989. An avid stamp collector and music lover, Bob worked as a Real Estate Broker and also in the furniture and hardware business during his 37 year civilian career. He was a member and former deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Alamogordo. He is survived by his sister, Betty Wilson and husband, David of Nampa, ID; and his children, Judith L. Lotz and William Dennison of Falls Church, VA, Charles W. and Wendy Orr of Albuquerque and David R. and Mary Jane Orr of Plano, TX. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Karen Lotz of Arlington, MA, Jesse, Jennifer, and John Orr of Albuquerque, Brennan Orr of Plano, TX, Kevin Orr of Amarillo, TX, Cara Collier of San Francisco, CA and David Collier of Austin, TX. Bob's surviving nieces and nephews are Dan and Tempra Wilson of Boise, ID, Brennon and Lee Ann Orr of Idaho Falls, ID, Dick and Jackie Orr of Albuquerque, Elizabeth and Chris Shirey of Albuquerque, Mary Ann and Jeff Terrell of Texas and Carole and Jeff Wheeler of Valencia, CA. Bob was predeceased by his parents, the Rev. William M. and Eula D. Orr; and his brother, the Rev. John M. Orr and wife, Faymae, who were all longtime New Mexico residents. Bob will be greatly missed by all his family and friends, including Linda Stoller Yates of Artesia, Darrel Lotz of Laurel, MD and John McMillen of Arlington, MA. Bob will be interred in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Humane Animal Association of New Mexico or the American Lung Association. Slater -- Consuelo"Connie" Slater, 77, a resident of Albuquerque for 42 years, went to be with our Lord Wednesday, June 26, 2002. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Art; and her three sons, Charles, Pat, and Walter Slater; granddaughters, Connie Rhinehart and husband, Norman of Dallas, TX and Jessi Rae Slater of Albuquerque; grandsons, Chris, Andrew and Michael Slater, all of Albuquerque; and great-grandchildren, Aaron and Melissa Rhinehart, both of Dallas, TX and Cody Slater of Albuquerque. Connie was born in Santa Fe, but was raised in Antonito, CO, where she attended high school. Connie attended college in Atchison, KS studying to become a teacher, but instead, chose a career in politics. She worked as a secretary to Gov. Ed Mecham for two terms, then as secretary to George Beach, County Assessor, also Charlie Woods, New Mexico Education Secretary, Max Coll, Minority Floor Leader and Colin McMillan, Minority Floor Leader, New Mexico House of Representatives. Wade -- James B. (J.B.) Wade, 75, a resident of Rio Rancho for nine years, died on June 24, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jeanette Wade of the family home; children, Linda Brady and husband, Gene of Rio Rancho, Nancy Harmon and husband, Milo of Rio Rancho, Sheri Wade of Gilbert, AZ and Allen Wade of Albuquerque; grandchildren, James, Anthony, Daniel and Naomi Fisher, Joshua, Aaron and Kyle Harmon, Stephanie and Alyssa Toney; sisters, Alberta Estes and Dorine Burton both of Melrose, NM and Betty Terry of Stapleton, GA; he is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. James retired from White Sands Missile Range in 1993 where he worked as a Mechanical Engineer. He was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church where he and Jeanette met in Wesley Club and were among one of the first couples to be married in the new sanctuary. James was also a member of the Men's Club and the Wesley Club where he met his wife at the church. He graduated from U.N.M. in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. James belonged to NARFE where he is the Northwest District Vice President. He enjoyed fixing cars and belonged to the Albuquerque Genealogy Club. Private interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Memorial Service will be on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead SW with Dr. Terry Anderson, officiating. Waggoner -- Kirk L. Waggoner, 33, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away June 22, 2002.
