Alexander -- JOHN "ALEX" ALEXANDER, 56, a resident of Albuquerque, for 36 years, died Wednesday, November 21, 2001. Born October 31,1945 in Niagara Falls, New York, the family moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico in 1949. John graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1963, and attended Eastern New Mexico University, University on New Mexico, and TVI. He was employed by Don Ward Co. and General Mills and was later self-employed in a repair and technical business. John also taught classes at TVI. He was an expert at his greatest love, which was repairing and riding Harley- Davidson motorcycles. He was also an accomplished automobile mechanic. John is survived by his parents, John S. and Josephine (Josie) Alexander of Carlsbad, N.M.; brothers, Paul Alexander and Mark Alexander of the Albuquerque area; a sister, Sandra Murphy of North Little Rock Arkansas, and several nieces and nephews. "Alex" wanted all of his associates and dear acquaintances to know that their friendships were among his most treasured assets. Cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. at Aspen Funeral Alternatives, 1935 Juan Tabo N.E. (323-9000).

Artiaga -- Mr. Napoleon S. Artiaga, 82, a resident of Los Lunas, New Mexico passed away on November 23, 2001. Mr. Artiaga is survived by two daughters, Theresa (Eileen) Torrez and husband Steve and Carolyn (Carrie) Geyer and husband Gerry of Colorado Spring, CO.; one son Sal Artiaga and wife Susie of Tampa, FL.; six grandchildren, Mike, Jeanne and husband Bill, T.J., Airin, Carlos and Roberto; one sister, Carmelita Jaramillo. He is preceded in death by his wife, Flora, July 2001. Mr. Artiaga was a member of the San Clemente Catholic Church and a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. He received the Purple Heart, Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one Bronze Service Star Good Conduct Medal and was the past Post Commander of Post #9676. A Rosary was recited Sunday evening. A final visitation will be Monday morning at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 12:00 noon by Father Rick Zerwas. Interment will follow at the San Clemente Cemetery with Military Honors. Pallbearers will be, Nick Balido, Mike Artiaga, Carlos Torrez, Roberto Torrez, Gerry Geyer, Don Leach, Leon Jaramillo and Rick Tennison. Honorary Pallbearers will be the VFW Post 9676. Bernstein -- Fred M. Bernstein, 81, a 17-year resident of Rio Rancho, passed away Friday, Nov. 23, 2001. He youngest of six children, he was born January 29, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He is survived by Pearl, his loving and caring wife of 54 years. He is also survived by: three sisters, Estelle Peckcrar and Fran Burstein of Tempe, Ariz., and Ruth Bernstein of Lyndhurst, Ohio; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Jack Brauner of Rio Rancho; his daughter, Susan Bernstein of Seattle, Wash.; a son, Gary Bernstein of Albuquerque; daughter-in-law, Donna Bernstein; and two grandchildren, Gehrig and Nikki Bernstein of Albuquerque; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. After distinguished service in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, Fred was employed as chief of Security at the United Nations for 18 years and at CBS in New York for 15 years. After many years in the workforce and raising his family, Fred earned a bachelor of science degree in health, physical education and recreation from Empire State College in New York. He demonstrated much love and respect for those with whom he came in contact. He believed a person's character and name were the most important traits in life. He achieved great satisfaction and notoriety in the sport of judo, and achieved the sixth degree level of Black Belt. He coached the gold medal winning United States Judo Team at the Israel Maccabiah Games in 1977 and 1981. He loved teaching and instructing young children and adults. He also volunteered a good deal of his time to the Special Olympics Bowling Team of Rio Rancho. As a result of many years of unselfish and dedicated service, he was inducted into the Special Olympics Hall of Fame 2000. Fred was a member of the Rio Rancho Fishing Club. He served two terms as post commander of the Jewish War Veterans, served as secretary of the New Mexico Democratic Club, served on the Ritual Committee at B'nai Israel Synagogue and was a contributing member of the Ronald Gardenswartz Jewish Community Center. In 1999, he served as Grand Marshal of the Twinkle Light Parade in Rio Rancho. He also served on the 1999 committee to develop and implement the War Veterans Memorial Park in Rio Rancho. Funeral service, officiated by Rabbi Isaac Celnik and Cantor Michael Dzubin, will be Monday, November 26, 2001, at 10 a.m., in Vista Verde Mortuary Chapel, 4310 Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln. in Rio Rancho. Interment will immediately follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be Myron Bernstein, Jack and Leonard Brauner, Joseph Triont, Ron Snow, Warren Sigal, Hyman Kornblatt and Milton Tempkin. Chavez -- Eliseo Chavez, 67, and a lifetime resident of Albuquerque went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 23, 2001 after losing his battle to cancer. He is survived by Mary Helen, his loving and caring wife of 49 years. He is also survived by six daughters and two sons: Anna Trujillo and husband, Larry, Liz Ortega and husband, Carlos, Cathy Madrid and husband, Joe, Mary Lou Garcia and husband, John, Christopher Chavez and wife, Julie, Sylvia Montaño, Michael Chavez, and Pamela Baca and husband, Leonard. Nineteen grandchildren: Frank, Lawrence and Julian Trujillo, Eddie, Danny and Christina Ortega, Carlos and Lisa Madrid, Johnnie and Andrew Garcia, Alisha and Renee Chavez, Matthew, Randy and Michelle Montaño, Joseph, Jennifer, Angelica, and Victoria Baca. Great-Grandchildren: Isabella, Marissa, Preston, Anna & Brianna. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many friends. Also survived by brothers, Sol Chavez and wife, Sydney, Charlie Chavez and wife, Barbara; sisters, Alice Maldonado and husband, Max, and Mary Gallegos. He was preceded in death by his parents, Solomon and Eleanor Chavez. Brothers, Frank and Ernesto, sisters, Martha Perez and Esther Moya. Cheo was with the K.A.F.B Fire Department for 29 years where he retired in 1984 as Assistant Fire Chief. He also worked for Sunwest bank as a courier for ten years. Cheo loved the outdoors and was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed and shared many special, priceless, and happy moments with his family at many outings, camping and family celebrations. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and loved him. Rosary will be recited on Monday, November 26, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Joseph Dr., NW. Cosby -- Daniel Lee Cosby, died November 23, 2001 after a lengthy bout with cancer. He is preceded in death by his father, Jackie Lee Cosby in 1995 and his grandparents. He is survived by Renee (Rusty) Cosby of the family home and his mother, Norma Cosby of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his two daughters, Danielle Cosby and Knoulan Tanner and also Suzanne Cosby, both of Albuquerque, one sister, Mary Elise Worthen and husband, Greg of Rio Rancho; two brothers, John Robert Cosby and wife, Yolanda, Rio Rancho, and Jesse Ray Cosby and wife, Sharon of Roswell, NM. Daniel is also survived by his aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins and many close, good friends. Daniel was a woodworker for the last 20 years employed by Albuquerque Door Company and self employed at Pecos Door and Gates since January of last year. Daniel was a family man who loved woodworking, hunting and fishing. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors and the mountains. Visitation will be held Monday, November 26, 2001 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Sandia Funeral Care. Garcia -- Joe "Lalo" (Little Joe) H. Garcia, 84, passed away at his home November 22, 2001. Joe was born October 4, 1916 in Santa Rosa, N.M. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Garcia and son Dan Garcia. He is survived by his daughter, Theresa"Terri" Sanchez; grandson, Dennis Sanchez; granddaughters, Denise and Dee A. Sanchez of Albuquerque, Carrie Lynn Morgan of San Diego, Aimee Ann Nickols and Jeff Garcia of Torrance, CA; great-grandchildren, Josh Sanchez of Albuquerque, Codey and Samantha Nickols of Torrance, CA, Caroline and Alexander of San Diego, CA, and special son-in-law, Raymond J. Sanchez. Joe and Edith moved to Albuquerque in 1939. He worked in many grocery stores in Albuquerque and retired from UNMH. Joe was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was very active at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He was a very active man until his illness, and enjoyed singing and being with his grandchildren. Joe loved football and going to St. Joseph's Pace Program. We'll miss you "Papo." Dad, I know you are with Nana and your son in Heaven. Gill -- Richard Isaiah Gill III, 23 years of age, passed away November 24, 2001. He was the son of Ermelinda and Richard I. Gill, II. He was reared by Rufina (Ruth) and Manuel Gomez of Rio Rancho. Rich, as he was known by all his friends, graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1996. He attended the University of New Mexico where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. He worked for the city of Albuquerque as a Corrections Officer at the Bernalillo County Detention Center. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ermelinda Gill in 1986 and his grandparents, Virginia and Richard Gill Sr. of Lake Placid, NY, and Miguel and Josefa Holguin of Hurley, NM. He is survived by Rufina and Manuel Gomez of Rio Rancho, who reared him as one of their sons. Other survivors include brothers, Nathan Gill and wife, Casey of Rio Rancho, Jason Gomez and wife, Felicia of Albuquerque and Jacob Gomez of Rio Rancho; nephews, Jeffery and Nathan Gill, Jr., and Andrew Gomez; niece, Janelle Gomez; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many special friends and co-workers. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. Griffin -- George H. (Griff) Griffin, longtime Bosque Farms resident, died Thursday at his home. He retired as Master Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy after 21 years distinguished service. Subsequently he retired Civil Service after 20 years. He is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Mary A. Griffin. He is survived by eight children; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Loomis -- Jean Loomis, 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1941, died Friday, November 23, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Richard E. Loomis, of Albuquerque; daughters, Melinda Fitzpatrick and husband, Brian, and Patsy Chavez, all of Albuquerque, and Tammy Benolkin and husband, Michael of Fort Wayne, IN; son, Richard R. Loomis of Albuquerque; grandsons, Brian T. Fitzpatrick of Washington, D.C., and Jason Chavez and Derek Chavez, both of Albuquerque; and granddaughters; Megan Fitzpatrick and Rachel Chavez, both of Albuquerque. Jean was born February 5, 1923 in Quanah, TX. She was a former member of the West Mesa Garden Club, a member of the American Rabbit Breeders' Association for 25 years, and was a founder and lifetime member of the Rio Grande Rabbit Association. She led 4-H in photography and rabbits. Jean was an avid mentor and collector of antiques, especially dolls, since 1972. Peatfield -- Captain Helen Kay Peatfield, 88, born on October 6, 1913 in Chester, CT, passed away on November 23, 2001. She lived a long beautiful life and touched everyone who knew her. After graduating from Chester High School, she attended St. Francis Nursing School in Hartford, CT, receiving her nursing degree. During WWII, she served as an Army surgical nurse in a MASH unit with the 11th Evacuation Hospital. She attained the rank of captain while serving her country with steadfast dedication. While stationed in North Africa, she met Colonel Norman E. Peatfield, a young army doctor. They were married at the end of the war at a Children's Hospital in Germany and honeymooned in Chamonix, France. She spent the next 25 years as an army wife traveling the U.S. and abroad with her husband and family. Her husband was promoted to Brigadier General on his last assignment as director of CHAMPUS at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver, CO. Upon retirement they spent the winter months in Florida and the summer months in Maine. In 1996, her beloved husband of 50 years passed away and she came to reside in Albuquerque, NM, to be near her daughter, Gail CdeBaca and husband, Tom and grandson, Eric. She is also survived by her daughter, Joanne Rideout and husband, Paul; grandchildren, Charles, Paula and Sandra and 11 great-grandchildren. Those around her know what a truly special lady she was. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered. Services will be held Tuesday, November 27, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Sanchez -- Nick G. Sanchez, 90, a resident of Placitas, N.M. passed away November 18, 2001 after a short illness. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for many years, then was employed with General Electric, until his retirement in 1974. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hermino and Domitilia Sanchez, sisters, Elena Chavez and Barbara Sanchez, brothers, Tomas, Daniel and Ezequiel Sanchez. Also a son, Anthony Gene Sanchez. He is survived by one sister, Isabel Vallejos. He is also survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Helen Sanchez of the family home; daughters, Alyce and husband, Abel Chavez, Amy and husband, Ernest Costales, Lillie and husband, Dick Radtke, and Lorraine Sanchez of San Juan, Puerto Rico; sons, William, Robert and wife, Erma, Daniel and wife, Janet. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. Stoutenburgh -- Jewell Stoutenburgh, 92, a resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, November 22, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Joann Temple and husband, Harvey; granddaughters, Susan Myers and husband, Steve, and Renee Temple and husband, Richard Marchbanks; grandson, Mark Temple and wife, Jeanne, and great-granddaughters, Sarah and Shanna Myers and Jenae and Kasi Temple. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Harold Stoutenburgh; and brother, Brown Crowder. Mrs. Stoutenburgh was a member of Netherwood Park Church of Christ. Services will be held, Monday, November 26, 2001, at 2:00 p.m., at Netherwood Park Church of Christ, 5101 Indian School NE with Chuck Pike officiating. Teakle -- Jo A. Teakle, age 39, passed away on November 19, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Jaime Sanchez; sons, Ian and Alexander Sanchez. Watson -- Roger David Watson, 47, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, November 19, 2001. He was born April 12, 1954 in Michigan and has lived most of his life in Petoskey, MI. He is survived by his sister, Kris Howland of Naples, FL; brother, Derek Watson of Petoskey, MI; beloved companion, Judi Gifford of Albuquerque; niece, Emily Howland of Naples, FL; and nephew, Jordan Watson of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Watson Sr., and his mother, June Watson. Roger will be remembered most for his kind heart and sense of humor. A memorial gathering will take place Monday, November 26, 2001, 6 p.m., at Joker's Pub. Cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will be held in Naples, FL. Wernke -- Robert C. (Bob) Wernke Sr., age 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 1959 passed on November 22, 2001. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Eulalie (Lee); sons, Robert Jr. and wife, Sherry, Rolland and wife, Beth; daughters, Bernadette Kidman, Rosalie Wernke all who reside in Albuquerque; two brothers, Roland (Bud) and Raymond (Ray) both of Indiana; brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert Rust, IN, Jody and Al Small, MS, Mildred Lowden, IN; Louise Day, AZ; Benny and Mildred Rust, TX; Josephine and Roy Rogers, TX; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Bob was born in Indianapolis, IN on September 25, 1920. He served in the military with the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired in 1979 after 25 years of service in the U.S. Post Office (garage). He was a member of Santuario De San Martin Church. Visitation will be Monday November 26, 2001 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary following at 7:00 p.m. in the Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary 1100 Coal Ave SE. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, November 27, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. in Santuario De San Martin Church 8321 Camino San Martin SW with Fr. Vance officiating. Interment to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. He was truly loved and will be deeply missed. Strong-Thorne Mortuary is in charge of his arrangements.

White -- Hazel Thornton White, 78, born on May 22, 1923 in Winston-Salem, NC, died Tuesday, November 20, 2001. She is survived by one son, Clarence L. White of Albuquerque; two daughters, Tehneh White of Albuquerque and Masue White of Los Angeles, CA; nine grandchildren, Tamara White, Pamara White, Cynthia Perkins, Andrea Perkins, Alex White, Johnny White, Rhonda Pruitt, Reginald Pruitt and Jesus Pruitt; and one great-grandchild. Hazel retired as a Public Health Nurse from Bridgeport, CN. She moved to Albuquerque to begin Weight Watchers and had served as the Director for the Albuquerque and Oklahoma Panhandle area since 1969. Hazel also served as Lector and Eucharistic Minister at Risen Savior Catholic Church for many years. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, November 29, 2001, at 9:00 a.m., at Church of the Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Wednesday, November 28, 2001, 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
