Abeyta -- Mr. Manuel A. Abeyta Sr., 78, a resident of Albuquerque passed away at home with his loved ones at his side. Mr. Abeyta is survived by six sons, Dan Abeyta and wife, Hilda, Ted Abeyta and wife, Terri, Andy Abeyta, Manny A. Abeyta Jr. and wife, Margaret, Marty S. Abeyta and wife, Mona, Vincent Abeyta and wife, Jean; two brothers, Al Trujillo, Jerry Trujillo and wife, Debbie; three sisters, Betty Pacheco, Deanna Del Rosario and husband, Lou and Mary Lacey; all of Vallejo, CA; His loving and caring companion,, Mary C. Herndon -- Dorine M. Herndon, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, April 6, 2001 of Parkinson's complications. She was born in Mangum, OK on September 22, 1923 and moved to Albuquerque in 1952. Dorine was preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Herndon, Albuquerque aviation pioneer, daughter, Virginia Ann Rubemeir, son, Donald, and mother Jessie Thrower and father Clive Thrower. She is lovingly survived by her children: daughters, Kathy and husband, Gene Pyell, Margaret and husband, Alan Wilfehrt, Mary Kuehn, and Amber Herndon; sons, Charles Michael Herndon and wife, Louann Feldmann, Phil Herndon and Ben Montoya, Tim Herndon and wife, Connie, Tom Herndon, Paul and wife, Lynne Herndon. Dorine was proud of all her grandchildren, Aaron and wife, Janice Jaramillo, Helen Wilfehrt, Kerry Jaramillo and husband, Tim Tessendorf, Heather and husband, Conrad Mulligan, Kahri, Jessica and husband, Alex Sirotin, Liesl Herndon, Nicole Nicholas, Lindsay Herndon-Ortega, Rachel Herndon, Alison Herndon-Ortega, Megan Herndon, Lucas Herndon, Jamie Kuehn, and Daniel Kuehn. Her great-grandchildren are Sebastian, Brittany, and Natalie. She is also survived by her brothers, David and wife, Stella, and Gilbert and wife, Jackie Thrower. Dorine will be remembered for her compassion, her interest in acquiring knowledge and her very quick and smart wit. People loved her immediately. Dorine was a tiny woman with a great heart. She fought Parkinson's disease bravely for many years. We wish to thank Rita New and T.J., the nursing staff at Montebello, Vista Care Hospice and her doctors and nurses at Lovelace Medical Center. Rosary was recited Sunday, April 8, 2001. Funeral Mass at Gate of Heaven Chapel, April 9, 2001, 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow. Pallbearers will be Eugene Pyell, Alan Wilfehrt, Ben Montoya, Tim Tessendorf, Ron Stewart, Aaron Jaramillo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any Parkinson's Foundation of your choice. Larkin -- Harold V. Larkin, a forty-nine year resident of New Mexico, died March 29, 2001 in Palm Desert, Ca. Born December 5. 1922 in Providence R.I. He married Genevieve in 1945, and they began a 56-year journey together. After learning to fly in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940, he served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII in India, Burma and China. He earned a Purple Heart, a Distinguished Flying Cross and the Silver Star. Hal earned a B.S. degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of New Mexico and had a 30-year career in general contracting, retiring as Sr. Vice President of a local company. Over the years, he was active in many charities, a member of The Retired Officers Association and Sigma Tau Honorary Fraternity. Hal is survived by his wife, Gen, of 56 years; sister, Marie Hayes of West Yarmouth, Mass; daughters, Jane of Kona Hawaii, Christine of Anaheim, California, Valerie of St. Louis, Mo; and son, Peter of Albuquerque. There will be a Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church on Monday, April 9, 2001. Burial will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family suggests donations to a charity of choice.

Mehm -- William J. Mehm Sr., retired aerospace engineer, age 83, passed away 7 April 2001 at Robin House assisted living facility in Albuquerque, NM. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on January 16, 1918, son of the late William and Elizabeth (Walter) Mehm. He graduated from Grand Army of the Republic High School and in 1940 moved to Buffalo NY with his wife Alice (Craig) to attend the University of Buffalo College of Engineering and begin work as an aerospace engineer at the Curtiss-Wright Corporation designing the P40 fighter for use during WWII. In 1945 he was called to active duty in the US Navy. Following military service, Mr. Mehm resumed his aircraft design career at the Bell Aircraft Corporation in Niagara Falls NY. In 1959 he moved with his wife and two sons, William and David, to Los Angeles California where he worked for the Lockheed, North American, and Hughes Aircraft companies. During this time, he was involved in the design or modification of the Rascal and Phoenix Missiles, F104 Star Fighter, B-52 and B-70 Bombers, C141 Star Lifter, and two commercial helicopters. His most significant contributions were his work on the X-2 experimental rocket aircraft and the Lunar Surveyor Space Craft that paved the way for the US space program and the Apollo moon landings. In the early '70s he moved to Albuquerque NM where he worked in aviation design until retiring and then opened a coin-operated laundry business. Mr. Mehm is survived by his son, William and daughter-in-law, Karen of Fairfield CA; brother, Francis of Honesdale, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, son, David and four brothers, Joseph, Carl, Walter and George. Funeral mass will be on Wednesday, 11 April at 9:30 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Place SE, Albuquerque. A private entombment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd. NE. Mr. Mehm will lie in state at the Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE on Tuesday evening, 10 April from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Petersen -- Lucille Q. Petersen, 77, passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2001. She is survived by her daughters, Ramona Hays and husband, Michael of Chama, NM, and Kathleen Beiser and husband, Daniel of Tecumseh, MI; brother, LaVerne Quadhamer and wife, Shirley of Upland, NE; grandchildren Lara Hays and husband, Edwin Carmack, Heather Hays, David Beiser, Kendra Beiser, Amber Beiser Mineham and husband, Dave; great-granddaughter Lauren Mineham; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Linda Quadhamer, and husband, Melvin Petersen and her beloved partner, Gordon Hermanson. Lucille was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a life member of Disabled American Veteran's Auxiliary Unit 32. In addition, she was a volunteer at the Veteran's Administration Hospital. Sanchez -- Frank Maes Sanchez, 59, was born in San Jose, NM to the late Frank and Rebecca Sanchez and a resident of Albuquerque passed away on April 6, 2001. Mr. Sanchez is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Susan D. Sanchez; the proud father of five children, Yvette Sanchez of Dallas, TX, Louie Sanchez and wife, Cassie, Denise C. Lovato and husband, Lenny, Diana Mascarenaz and husband, Joe of San Diego, CA, Frankie Sanchez Jr. and wife, Stacy of Kansas City, MO; 10 grandchildren, Frank and Michael Sanchez, Tyler and Chase Sanchez, Lenny and Lynae Lovato, Kimberly and Joseph Mascarenaz, and Kennedy and Avery Sanchez; four brothers and sisters, Al Sanchez, Della Gutierrez and husband, Selso, Loretta Ortega and husband, Rudy and Irene Pacheco and husband, Robert. Mr. Sanchez was preceded in death by his sister, Annie Forrester. He will be greatly missed. Mr. Sanchez was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church and an eight-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Vietnam Era. He was a graduate of Albuquerque High School and a life member of Post 13. Frank was a dedicated 32-year employee of the Albuquerque Publishing Company. Summers -- William ťBillť C. Summers, 54, a resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, April 6, 2001. He is survived by his son, Michael Summers and wife, Michelle of Austin, Texas; daughters, Jennifer Summers of Albuquerque, NM and Shannon Summers and Richard Fair of Lubbock, Texas; two grandchildren, Jamie and Cody of Lubbock, Texas and future granddaughter, Jordyn Taylor Summers of Austin, Texas; mother, Jill Summers of Albuquerque, NM; sister, Sally Gray and husband, Jesse of Dallas, Texas; brother, Doug Summers and wife, Andie of Albuquerque, NM; nieces, Nicole Romans and son Reese; nephew, Clint Summers. He was a Marine Corp Veteran. Mr. Summers was a retired State Police Officer. He was a former supervisor at TWA reservation center. Mr. Summers was currently employed as Operations Manager at Acme Towing Company. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and riding his motorcycle. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at New Life Baptist Church, 6900 Los Volcanes Rd. NW, with Dr. Larry Allen, Officiating. Wallace -- Virginialea Wallace, 80, a resident of Albuquerque since 1947, died on April 5, 2001. She is survived by her husband, J. D. Wallace of Albuquerque; daughter, Myrtie Lew Anderson-Sawyer of Salt Lake City, UT; granddaughter, Anne Pico of Kalispell, MT; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Shanna, Jessica, Charity, Andrew, and Sarah; and her sister, Olive Richardson of Albuquerque. Virginialea was a graduate of Oklahoma State University. She taught in the Albuquerque School System for 25 years (19 years at Mark Twain), at Zia (Stronghurst), in Gallup and in Oklahoma. Walters -- Mary Coon Walters passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2001 at her home in Albuquerque of complications from bronchitis. Mary was born in Baraga, MI on January 29, 1922. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Asa Lane Walters, her father and mother, Marvin L. and Nancy Conway Coon, her brothers, Marv Coon and Jim Coon and her sister, Nancy Coon Cleary. She is survived by her son, Mark and daughter-in-law, Lori; and grandsons, Brad and Danny. She is also survived by her sister, Catherine Larsen; many nieces; nephews, and countless friends, in whose hearts Mary's passing will leave a large void. Justice Walters' accomplishments were legion. She served as a delegate to the 1969 New Mexico Constitutional Convention, was the first woman on the District Court in Albuquerque, was elected to the New Mexico Court of Appeals, and was appointed as the first woman on the New Mexico Supreme Court. She will be remembered for her service to God, to her country, as a pilot during World War II, to her state as an inspiring jurist, to her community, and most of all as a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher and friend. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Monday, April 9, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming NE. Wood -- Nancy C. Wood, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on April 7, 2001. Nancy was born on May 6, 1935 to Linwood and Ruby McDougal Candage in Ellsworth, Maine. She was an antique dealer and owner of Antiques and Treasures by Carwood for many years. Nancy also served as secretary of the corporation Joseph O. Carmer Enterprises and was co-owner of Carwood, LLC. Nancy was a registered nurse and earned her nursing degree in Boston, MA, her BA at University of Albuquerque, and went on to earn her AMA in Psychology at Webster's College. She loved to travel and her favorite pastime was driving around and shopping for antiques with Joe. Nancy was also very proud to be fortunate enough to be a heart transplant recipient. Nancy is survived by her loving children Kimberly Wood Narey and husband, Laurance of Euless, TX, Douglas C. Wood and wife, Bonnie Chavez-Wood of Rio Rancho, Michael Wood of Albuquerque, and her longtime friend and companion for almost 30 years, Joe Carmer of Albuquerque, four step-children, Joseph P. Carmer and wife, Vonda of OK, Sue A. Garcia and husband, Ben of Hobbs, Michael W. Carmer and wife, Leslie, Kenneth W. Carmer all of Albuquerque, her grandchildren, Ashley Perry, Keith and Jessie Behrman, Melanie, Matthew, Nicole and Kyle Wood and eight step-grandchildren. Nancy will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alameda Mortuary. Woods -- Leo B. Woods, 77, a resident of Albuquerque since 1967, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001. He is survived by his daughters, Margit Woods of Brandon, MS, Jutta Woods and Mary Skinner and husband, Thomas, both of Albuquerque; 14 grandchildren; and one sister, Hazel Goekler of Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hildegard; son, Harold; and three sisters.
