Aragon -- IN LOVING MEMORY John A. Aragon beloved family member and gifted educator 05/03/30 - 02/08/97He will be honored and remembered later this year with a bronze created and sculpted by his daughter and noted artist Alison Aragon-Theodoro. Avery -- Colonel Charles J. Avery, USAF Retired, a former Vice Commander of the Air Force Weapons Lab at Kirtland AFB and one of the C-47 pilots who began flying what was to become known as the Berlin Airlift, died Saturday, February 3, 2001 at the V.A. Hospital in Albuquerque. Col. Avery was born on August 11, 1923 in Fort Ringgold, TX where his father was an army medical officer with the 12th Cavalry. A graduate of West Point in 1945, he later earned a Master's degree in Nuclear Physics at Ohio State University and taught physics at the newly established Air Force Academy. He spent the latter years of his military career in Research and Development, including an assignment in the office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff working on the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty. After retirement in 1973, he moved to Albuquerque where he worked for ten years as the Air Force representative on the Nuclear Weapons Safety Group at Kirtland. Completely retired in 1985, he enjoyed golf, ham radio, anything electronic and later computers. He was married in 1948 in Berlin, Germany to Frances Sinfield of the American Red Cross. He leaves behind his wife of 53 years; three sons, Scott and wife, Sue, of McLean, VA, Kent and wife, Margie, of Annandale, VA, Chris and fiancé, Terri Ross, of Albuquerque; three grandsons, Matthew, Kyle, and Shane; and a granddaughter, Shannon Bennett. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Charles J. Avery, Jr. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 9, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. in the Kirtland Base Chapel. Funeral Services will take place on Friday, February 23, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at Ft. Myers Old Chapel, Arlington, VA with full military honors. Burial will follow in Arlington National Cemetery. He was a devoted family man, a beloved grandfather and a man who lived by the West Point creed of Duty, Honor, Country. One of his favorite expressions was the West Point prayer, Lord grant that I always do the harder right than the easier wrong. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made to the charity of your choice in Col. Avery's name. Strong-Thorne Mortuary is in charge of local arrangements.

Candelaria -- Felipe S. Candelaria, 83, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died on Tuesday, February 6, 2001. He is survived by his daughters, Teresa Navarro and husband, Ramon, Viola Aragon and husband, Robert, Darlene Mondragon and husband, Shawn and Judy Romero and husband, Adrian; son, Ted Candelaria; grandson, Raul Navarro; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Epifiano Candelaria and wife, Bennie and sister, Emma Sanchez. Felipe was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores M. Candelaria. The family would like to give a special thank you to Sandia Hospice for all their attentive care and help to Felipe. Cumerford -- Isabel (Is) Cumerford, 59, passed away Monday, February 5, 2001, in a local hospital following a long and courageous battle with diabetes. Isabel was born in Taft, TX and has been a resident of Albuquerque since 1972. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Dale R. Cumerford of the family home; her mother, Maria Alaman; sister, Irene and husband, Marcelino Duran and sister, Angie Banda, all of Littlefield, TX. Isabel was preceded in death by her father, Manual Alaman. The family would like to recognize the ICU staff at Lovelace Medical Center for their compassion and professionalism. Dismuke -- Joan Harms Dismuke, 65, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, February 5, 2001, surrounded by her children. She was born to Leon and Pauline Harms on June 4, 1935, in Hillsboro, KS. In 1936, her family moved to New Mexico where she lived the rest of her life. She graduated from Highland High School in 1953 and attended New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM where she majored in music. On August 25, 1956, she married William"Bill" Dismuke, who in 1989 preceded her in death. She is survived by her four children, daughter, Ruth Dismuke-Blakely and husband, Stuart; sons, Mark Dewey Dismuke and Cathy Shemek, Daniel Paul Dismuke and Stephen William Dismuke and wife, Danielle; brothers, Leon Gene Harms and Paul Harms; seven grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as a host of friends. Joan was a lifelong horsewoman, raising and showing Quarter Horses and was active in the NM Quarter Horse Assoc., the NM Palomino Horse Breeders Assoc. and gave many hours to the 4-H Club. In 1987, she became involved in raising and showing Corriente Cattle through the North American Corriente Assoc. and operated the Diamond Tail Ranch until her death. She is a charter member of the Immanual Presbyterian Church. Joan had many honors throughout her life, most recently the recipient of the SW Corriente Assoc. Heritage Award. In the past few years, her Corriente Cattle were her passion and gave her great joy and satisfaction. She was a devoted mother and grandmother giving countless hours to her children and grandchildren throughout her entire life. She had a powerful love of life, enduring strength and a sense of humor that sustained her. Cremation has taken place and a private interment is planned. Memorial Services will be held at Immanual Presbyterian Church, 114 Carlisle Blvd. SE, Albuquerque, NM on Saturday, February 10, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. A memorial fund has been set up in her honor. Dylski -- Martin D. Ski Dylski, 61, an Albuquerque resident since 1972, died Tuesday, February 6, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Sachiko Dylski; daughter, Christina Dylski, both of Albuquerque; brother, John Dylski of Wilkes-Barre, PA. Mr. Dylski retired from the USMC as a Master Gunny Sergeant after 23 years service. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving two tours in Vietnam. After his retirement from the US Marine Corps, he had worked at Sandia National Labs for a number of years. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 9, 2001 at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd, NE with Deacon Bob Lewis, officiating. Ferris -- Matthew J. Ferris, 41, passed away on January 23, 2001, in Pueblo, CO. He is survived by his father, Joe Ferris; his brother, Michael (Lynn) Ferris; nephews, Brandon and Joey Ferris, all of Pueblo; as well as numerous cousins, relatives and friends. His mother, Irene Ferris and brother, David Ferris preceded him in death. Matthew was a graduate of Sandia High School, class of 1977. He worked as an auto mechanic and had recently moved to Pueblo to be with his father and brother. Matthew was a wonderful and loving son, brother, and friend and he will be missed by all. Gallion -- Thomas R. Gallion, 44, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico passed away Friday, February 2, 2001 after being ill for several months. His wife, Mary Gallion; daughter, Jennifer Marie Gallion; mother, Ula Gallion; sister, Jacque Rasmussen; and eight nieces; and six nephews survive him. Tom was a graduate of the University of New Mexico and Teacher of the Gifted for 17 years at various schools. Lovato -- Mary Lovato, 104, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, February 6, 2001. Mary was born March 11, 1896, in Lamy, New Mexico. She was a long time resident of Albuquerque, and has been cared for by her sister-in-law, Mollie Lovato. She was preceded in death by her parents, Isabel Tudesque and Catarino Lovato, sisters, Josephine Lovato, and Carmen Salazar; brothers, Ed Lovato, Joe Lovato, and Manuel Lovato. Mary is survived by her sister-in-law, Mollie Lovato and family members, Betty Laymon, Margie Proo, Elsie Sanchez, and many more relatives. She will be deeply missed by her loving family. Her family wishes to give special thanks at this time to UNM Hospice: Nancy Costea, Edie Logan, and Dr Jessica Bigney; also to Charlie and Phyllis Madrid, her confidants, Darlene Baca, a very special caretaker who loved her, and to Dominic Baca, her little"boyfriend." Lucero -- Robert O. Bob Lucero passed away Sunday, February 4, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Anna; brother, Max Lucero and wife, Virginia; sisters, Antonia Mares and husband, Jenaro, and Clorinda Lucero; stepsons, Bill Mataya and wife, Doreen, and Phillip Mataya and wife, Pat; stepdaughters, Betty Chepin and husband, Joe, and Paula Spitale and husband, Guy, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mr. Lucero was preceded in death by his parents, David and Aurelia, Lucero; brothers, David, Arthur and Isaac Lucero. Bob was born on May 6, 1916 and was reared in Dawson, NM. He served in Battery F, 200th Coast Artillery, Anti-Aircraft during WW II. He served in the Philippines, was captured by the Japanese on April 9, 1942 and was on the Bataan Death March. Bob was a prisoner for 3 years. He was a life member of American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor Organization, American Ex-Prisoners of War, Disabled American Veterans, and Elks Club. Bob belonged to Albuquerque Chapter No. 1, American Ex-POWs and Bataan Veterans Organization. Meyer -- Col. Erwin A. Meyer, Jr., (U.S.A.F. Ret.), passed away Saturday, February 3, 2001 in Albuquerque, NM. He and his wife moved to Albuquerque in 1971 to retire after a 30 year career as an Air Force Officer. Following retirement, Col. Meyer taught R.O.T.C. at Del Norte High School. He also served as a volunteer lifeguard with the Red Cross at Kirtland A.F.B. in the swim therapy program. Survivors include Sydna C. Meyer, his wife of 57 years; his daughter, Sandra J. Walden and husband, Chauncey of Denver, CO; and his son, Michael E. Meyer, of San Diego, CA; as well as many dear friends. Private interment with military honors has taken place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to a charity of choice. Sunrise Society is serving the family of Col. Morse -- Donald E. Morse, a longtime Albuquerque resident, died Saturday, February 3, 2001. He is survived by Kathy, his wife of 41 years; daughter, Kelly Sullivan and husband, Marty; son, Dan Morse and wife, Kim; granddaughters, Sarah, Amanda, Stephanie, Julia Sullivan and Kaitlyn Morse; grandson, Kyle Morse. Don is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Harvey and Janell Morse; brother and sister-in-law, Jim Morgans and Diane Donaghy; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol and Bill Gregory; special cousin, Dorothy Kendall; cousin, Charles Cooper; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Don was born October 19, 1932 in St. Louis, MO. After his father's death, he and his mother and brother moved to Albuquerque in 1938 where he attended elementary and junior high school. He attended Santa Fe High School and graduated in 1950. Don played football, basketball, and baseball at Santa Fe High where he received many athletic honors including selection to the All District Basketball and All State Football teams. Don attended the University of New Mexico on a football scholarship and was a member of UNM's 1952 National Defensive football team. He was inducted into UNM's Athletic Hall of Honor as a member of that team. Upon college graduation in 1954, Don attended Air Force Navigation School and received his wings in 1955. After his discharge in 1958, he joined the Air Force Ready Reserve, retiring in 1982 as a Lt. Colonel. Following Don's military service, he returned to Albuquerque and began an insurance career that covered 39 years of which the last 21 years were spent as the Executive Vice President for Market Finders, Inc, New Mexico's largest insurance general agency. He retired from that position in 1998. Don was devoted to his family, and his children and grandchildren brought him tremendous joy. He was greatly loved by his family and friends. We will miss him terribly. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Friday, February 9, 2001, 2:00 p.m, at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE, with Dr. Paul Debenport and Rev. Nations -- Estaline Whitacre Nations died peacefully at Laurel View Nursing Home on Monday, January 29, 2001, after a lengthy illness. She was born in White Oakes, NM to Dr. Henry Esta Whitacre and Nancy Ann Whitacre. She received music training in both piano and brass instruments, traveling by train each week to El Paso. She graduated from Tularosa High School and went on to Tarlton College in Stephenville, TX. When Estaline received word that her father was gravely ill, she returned to New Mexico and resumed her studies at New Mexico State University, where she became the first female instrumentalist in the New Mexico State Aggie Band. After her father's death, she and her mother taught school in Tularosa. In 1939, Estaline married Walter W. Nations. During Walter's overseas service in WWII, Estaline returned to Tularosa and once again taught school. After the war, the couple settled in Albuquerque living in the North Valley for over fifty-five years. Estaline was a member of Montgomery Church of Christ, the Aristocrat Caravaners, and a charter member of the North Albuquerque Lioness Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved husband of 60 years, Walter W. Nations. She is survived by daughter, Nancy Ann Core and husband, Andrew, and granddaughters, Jane Core of Reston, VA, and Susan Core of Albuquerque. Orr -- Sherry Orr, 40, a resident of Albuquerque, NM passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2001. Sherry was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints in Albuquerque. She was a 1978 graduate of Belen High School, and went to U.N.M. in Gallup to receive her Registered Nurse Degree. Sherry is preceded in death by her father, Robert (Bob) Linton in 1994, and her grandmother, Alice Catherine Clevenger in 1988. She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Mildred and Jerry Orr of Winslow, AZ; two brothers, Tim of Winslow, AZ and Steve of Meadow Lake; grandfather, B.E. Clevenger of Belen; four uncles, Randall Clevenger and his wife, Sally of Edgewood, Frank Clevenger and his wife, Lucy of Socorro, Joy Cappel of T or C, and Ray Dane Linton of Idaho; one great-uncle, Alton Clevenger and his wife, Karen of Bakersfield, CA; two aunts, Dickie Houston of Belen and Dora Hill of Clovis; four great-aunts, Blanche Hoffman of Canton, OK, Laura Madison of Pueblo, CO, Bertha Kuback and Sylvia Smalley both of Sacramento, CA. Sherry is also survived by Kevin and Troy, her loving nephews whom she considered as her own; and her many loving cousins. Sherry loved her stepfather, Jerry, very much and is also survived by his loving family. Pacheco -- Tillie B. Pacheco, 84, a former resident of Belen, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2001. Rarrick -- David Louis Rarrick, R.N., 49, passed suddenly on February 5, 2001. He is survived by his best friend and wife, Patricia; his father, Harold; his sister, Susan Herrera and husband, James, children, James Kristopher Herrera, Jason Tucker, Rachel Areadna Herrera; grandchildren, Jacob Herrera and Brandon Tucker; brothers, Mark and Shawn Rarrick, Shawn's wife, Kimberly, children, Samantha and Christine; his in-laws, Wendell and Marge Biggers and Wendell Biggers, Jr. and family; grandmother, Maxine Garrison of OK; and numerous other relatives and friends and Psycho-Killer, his cat of many years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Billie Rarrick in July 2000. David graduated from Sandia High School in 1969 and entered the US Army in December 1969. He served in Vietnam as a Clinical Specialist (LPN) with the 101st Airborne both in combat and as village doctor from December 1970 to December 1971. He returned to the White Sands Missile Range where he was honorably discharged in December 1972. He then received his R.N. degree from St. Joseph's College in Albuquerque. After working several years as a Critical Care R.N. in So. California, he returned to Albuquerque in 1992. He worked in various nursing and management positions until his death. He was known as David the Night Nurse for his desire to work nights. David loved the excitement in life, his latest activity with Patricia was SCUBA diving. He was a great uncle, sharing the excitement with nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family and colleagues for his good humor and presence. Services will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m. at the French Mortuary-Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW with Rev. Mark Denton officiating. Interment will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shawn Rarrick, Jimmy Herrera, Kris Herrera, Joe Conventry, Martin Garcia and Mark Rarrick. Friends may visit French Mortuary-Westside, 9300 Golf Course Rd. Ruddick -- Lois A. Ruddick, 78, born and raised in New Mexico and a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, died Monday, February 5, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Marvin Eugene Ruddick of Albuquerque; one daughter, Ann Williams; three sons, A.V. Romero and companion, Susan Heaton; Edward Romero and wife, Linda; A.J. Romero and wife, Karen; eight grandchildren, Jaymz Ryms and wife, Delayne of Georgia, Lisa Yvette Williams and Roxanne Williams, both of El Paso, TX, Rhonda Edwards, Billy Edwards and companion, Emily, Albert Romero Jr. and wife, Cynthia, Holli Elkins and husband, Mike, and Julie Romero and companion, Javis, all of Albuquerque; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Frank Vigil of Albuquerque; and two sisters, Pauline Duran of Albuquerque and Frances Gonzales of Denver, CO. Mrs. Ruddick worked as a Beautician for over 35 years and was the owner/operator of both the Beauty Corner and Curl-Up Salons. She was a member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church. Ryan -- James Harold Ryan, Jr., 76, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, February 4, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Catherine (Ceegie) Ryan; son, James Michael Ryan; two daughters, Keli Watts and Patty Birge; step-children, Kurt Wortman, Ron Wortman, Karen Nufer and Julie Moskowitz; and grandchildren, Cassie, Rhiannon, Jimmer, Lindsay, Alexa, Rachel, Matthew, Abe and Susanna. Jim was a UNM graduate in Engineering. He was the President of JH Ryan and Son, builder of the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, numerous bridges across the state of NM and Procter Dam in Texas. Jim was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, the Elks Club, the Albuquerque Country Club, the Petroleum Club and the Association of General Contractors. He was a fighter pilot in the 27th Fighter Bomber Group and flew 98 combat missions during World War II in the European Theater. Jim and his fellow WWII pilots kept in touch and they met every two years for a reunion. He was an avid reader, loved to travel and he collected antique cars and art. Mr. Ryan was a treasure to all who knew him and he will be deeply missed. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 10:00 a.m., at Church of the Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Father Robert Keller, O.P., Celebrant. Schum -- Paula Marie Schum, 47, a resident of Albuquerque since 1958, died on Monday, February 5, 2001 after a long battle with congestive heart failure. She is survived by her parents, William M. and Doris Schum of Albuquerque; siblings, Michael Schum and wife, Kathryn of Davis, CA, Steve Schum and wife, Tessie of Albuquerque, Timothy Schum and wife, Mary of Milwaukee, WI, Kathy Becker and husband, Fred, Susie Kane and husband, Dennis, Lisa Ferguson and husband, Dean, and Kevin Schum and wife, Amy, all of Albuquerque; and by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Despite her many health problems Paula persevered to complete her Liberal Arts Degree at TVI in December and received her diploma on February 5, 2001. She was a retired nun from the Sisters of Charity of Rolling Hills, CA. Paula was a very loving daughter, sister, and aunt. A Rosary will be recited Thursday, February 8, 2001, 7:00 p.m. at Church of the Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Silversmith -- Mr. Sammy T. Silversmith, 77, a resident of Albuquerque for 31 years coming from Crown Point, N.M. passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his loving family on February 7, 2001. Mr. Silversmith is the beloved husband of 51 years to Mrs. Betty Silversmith. He is also survived by five daughters, Claudine Sarracino and husband, Ralph D., Ernestine S. Hogue and husband, Sam R., Anna L. Silversmith, Veronica M. Silversmith and Rosella A. Silversmith; two sisters, Rosita Augustine and Pahe Harrison; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Silversmith is a Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp, 4th division and was a Navajo Code Talker in WW II. Smithart -- "Dwelling in the shelter of the Almighty." Bobby Allen Smithart, 69, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2001. A loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, mentor, and man of God, he served both country and neighbor in the U.S. Navy from 1949-1953 and as a Police Officer from 1954-1957 in Dallas, Texas. He remained active in his contributions to the Church by his participation at Crossroads Church of the Nazarene in Moriarty. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Bertha Ready Smithart, his daughter, De'Anne Stoker, and by his first wife, LaVerne Smithart. He is survived by his wife of twelve years, Laura Smithart of Moriarty; his son, Lindley B. Smithart of Portland, OR; daughter, Deborah Craig and husband, David of Albuquerque, daughter, Michelle McCraw and husband, Clarence of Lewisville, TX, daughter, Theresa S. LaVerne of Albuquerque; son-in-law, Michael Stoker of Los Lunas; and by Laura's children, James Paul Black and wife, Pamela of Cedar Crest, Dana Faye Dawson and husband, Jim of Edgewood, and Sally Ann Martin and husband, David of Sandia Park; as well as ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
