Armijo -- Johnnie A. Armijo. On Sunday, November 12th Johnnie passed away peacefully. He was a beloved man with many relatives and friends. He was born in Sabinal, New Mexico, to Clemente and Francisquita Armijo. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict serving proudly in the Army. He lived several years in Wilmington, California, where he was a member of the Plasterers Union. Johnnie enjoyed playing the drums for several bands including"Johnnie A and the Western Rhythm Makers", whose speciality was of Western music and rancheras. Upon retirement he returned to New Mexico and married Mary Lee Lorigo where they enjoyed fishing, dancing, and excursions to casinos. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his brothers, Manuel, Pete, Gerry; and sisters, Mary and Caroline. He is survived by his sister, Vina Enis; his brother, Ben Armijo and wife, Sylvia; his sister-in-law, Fela Armijo; many loving nieces, nephews, and friends; and his special friend, Margaret Gonzales. Johnnie will always be remembered as a practical joker with a tremendous sense of humor and also for his generosity. Cremation has taken place. A rosary will be recited at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5310 Claremont NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico on Nov. 14, 2000 at 7:00 pm. A Mass celebrating Johnnie's life will be held at San Antonio Catholic Church in Sabinal, New Mexico with Father Vincent Nicosia presiding, on Nov. 16, 2000 at 11:00 am.

Axelsen -- Morris "Cliff" Axelsen born in Clearlake, IA. April 17, 1918 and a resident of Albuquerque since 1958, passed away on November 10, 2000, holding the hand of his beloved wife, Marie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (1991), sister, Maxine Axelsen, and parents, Chris and Dora Axelsen. His wife, Marie, daughter, Nandis Axelsen, brothers, Max Axelsen and wife, Margaret and Chris Axelsen and wife, Donna survive him; he is also survived by stepchildren, Ronald Willingham and wife, A. J., Wayne Willingham and wife, Virginia, Dr. Bryan Euler and wife, Barbara, Janet Walters and husband, David, Mark Euler, Shelley Beaudet and husband, Matthew; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a multitude of cherished friends. Cliff retired from the US Navy having served in WWII and the Korean conflict, and had been a Shriner and was a member of the FRA club and the American Legion Post 49. He loved the UNM Lobos, golf and fishing. Cliff had lived a full life becoming ill with cancer, July of this year. Cliff's warmth, zest for life, and fighting spirit will be long remembered and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. William Abeyta, many caring Lovelace healthcare professionals, and friends who have helped them thru this difficult time. A memorial service and celebration of his life is being planned and will be announced at a later date. Chavez -- Mrs. Elizabeth C. Chavez, 44, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on November 14, 2000. Elizabeth is the beloved wife of 26 years to Michael T. Chavez. She is also survived by two sons, Michael T. Chavez Jr. and Kenneth Chavez; one daughter, Reanna Chavez; five grandchildren, Samantha, Cassandra, L.A., Dominic and Felicia; five sisters, Edna Martinez, Beatrice Soto and husband, Oliver, Maryland Otero and husband, Tony, Priscilla Maestas and husband, David and Lupe Romero; four brothers, Alfonso Romero, Frank Romero and wife, Elsie, Kenneth Romero and Valentino Romero and wife, Frances; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Elizabeth was a member of the Catholic Church. Cuellar -- Ramon A. Cuellar went to be with the Lord on November 11, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve of 17 years; his son, Ray Jr.; two daughters, Elizabeth and Angel and husband, Josh; two grandbabies, Ezra and Josiah. He is the grandson of the deceased Adelia Martinez. Davis -- Joseph R. Davis, a resident of Laguna, New Mexico, died, Saturday, November 11, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Marlene Davis; children, Joseph Davis, Daniel Davis both of Indiana, Cheryl Davis of Arizona, Pamela Barey and husband, Tony of Joplin, Missouri, Peter Brown and fiancée Melissa of Laguna, Catherine Brown, Richard Davis and wife, Lucia all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Dakota James, Sara Josephine, Julia, Tabitha, Reanna, Penny, Erica, Joseph, Jeffrey, Nicole, Elizabeth, Brian, Joseph and Evelyn. Fleming -- Robert G. Fleming passes away November 11 after losing his battle with cancer. He was 73. Growing up near Keedysville, MD on a small farm without electricity or plumbing did not bring complaints about hard times, but only inspired him to work harder for a better life. In 1950 Bob started working at the fledgling Sandia National Laboratories. He retired 43 years later. It was a career he was very proud of. His brothers and sister, Charles, Jack, Lynn, and Jeanne; his children, Peggy, Dana, Lance, and Liese and their families; as well as his long time sweetheart, Emma Vasquez; and her daughters, Karen and Cheryl, will miss him greatly. He was a good, loving man, respected and deeply loved by all whose life he touched. Private family service have been held. Sunrise Society is serving the family of Mr. Fleming ( 891-8200)

Hazlett -- Barbara Gabaldon Hazlett died peacefully on November 12, 2000. She was born in Albuquerque on April 29, 1919 to Francisco and Clotilde Gabaldon. Her husband, Cecil Hazlett, her parents, her brothers, Demetrio, Tony, Ralph and Frank Gabaldon and her sister, Ella Burke preceded her in death. Her sisters, Priscilla Miranda and Martha Baca; and sister-in-law, Erlinda Gabaldon from Albuquerque survive her as well as, the Hazlett and Johnson families from Texas; many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her. She lived in California for thirty years and worked for the state of California and then returned home to Albuquerque in 1974., She retired from the City of Albuquerque Water Department in 1984 and volunteered for many years for the Red Cross. She enjoyed traveling and activities with her family. She was loving and caring and will be missed by all. She was a member of the Catholic Church. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 17, 2000 at 9:30 a.m. at Queen of Angels Chapel located at I-40 and 12th street NW. Hook -- Celina B. Hook, beloved wife, mother, and long-time New Mexico resident, passed away October 28th. She was 77 years old. She is survived by her three children, Celina E. of Los Angeles, and Patrick and Joseph of Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Hook, a native of Albuquerque, and a long time resident of Alamogordo, NM. Formerly a long-time resident of Alamogordo, Mrs. Hook had called Albuquerque her home during the past 10 years. Mrs. Hook believed in helping others and will be greatly missed by those of us who were fortunate enough to have known her. She was an active member of various charities including the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Ft. Worth, Texas where she resided before moving to Albuquerque. In Albuquerque, she was active as a volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital NE, the Catholic Daughters of America, and the Rosary and Altar Society at St. Bernadette's Church. Services will be held Friday, Nov. 17, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in Albuquerque.

Krahling -- Jane E. Krahling, age 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep early Thursday morning, November 9, 2000 at her home in Albuquerque where she has lived for 48 years. Jane was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she married Ernst Krahling in 1940. Jane and Ernie moved to Albuquerque in 1951. Jane's most treasured passion was always her friends and family and her incredible love for children. She was ever the gracious lady. Her quick wit, astute sense of fairness, warm personality and smile endeared her to all she met. She will be held dear in the hearts and minds of those that knew her and deeply missed by those who loved her. She is survived by her son, Chris and his wife, Kathy of Sandia Park, NM; her granddaughter Tanya Garrison and her husband, Darin of Houston, Texas; and by her grandson, Scott. She is preceded in death by Ernie who passed away in 1990. Munkelwitz -- Donald Munkelwitz, 61, a resident of Albuquerque since 1993, died Sunday, November 12, 2000.He is survived by his wife, Mary and four children, Brian, Jennifer, Allison, and Kevin; 3 children from a previous marriage, Donald, Karen, and Laura; in-laws, Arthur and Mildred Carroll of Roswell; and sister-in-law, Diana Munkelwitz of New York. Mr. Munkelwitz was born and raised in Long Island, NY where he lived until moving to Albuquerque. He spent four years in the United States Air Force during peace time, spending much of his time at Altus Air Force Base in Oklahoma working as a mechanic on military aircraft. He had several careers including respiratory therapy for over 14 years after attaining his BS degree from Stony Brook University. He was Program Administrator for a major airport radar project at Norden Systems, a division of United Technologies Corporation. One of his greatest joys in life came from being Director of Senior Affairs at St. Bernadette Parish. He enjoyed serving the seniors there and he became very involved with the Pottery group. However, the most important part of his life was his family and he will be cherished in our hearts forever. Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, November 15, 2000, 9:00 a.m., at St. Bernadette Church, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE, with Father Domingo Gumpal, Celebrant. Ohl -- Dora L. Ohl, resident of Albuquerque for 18 years, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2000. She is survived by her niece, Barbara Rechenberg and husband, Johannes of Dresden, Germany; her nephew, Lothar Hoffman of Moser, Germany; her cousin, Ruth Fellendorf of Bad Aibling, Germany; her brother-in-law, Ernie Pfannenschmidt of Vancouver, British Columbia; and a host of friends from her church family at Saint John's Lutheran Church in Flushing, New York; the Frater family in Cleveland, Ohio; and her church family at All Saints Lutheran Church in Albuquerque, NM. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Ohl, her parents, her two sisters, and her brother. Dora was born Lina Dora Appel in Dresden, Germany, October 3, 1907. At the age of 22, she realized her dream of coming to America. She met Bobby Ohl and married him in 1935. In 1936, she received her citizenship and was proud to call America home. She and Bobby traveled all over the United States but called Flushing, NY home. She was active in her church, singing in the choir, organizing the rummage sales, and as a member of the ladies guild. She was known for her green thumb and beautiful garden. she remained in Flushing until 1982, when she moved to Albuquerque, becoming a member of the All Saints Lutheran Church family. She sang in the choir, volunteered at the Storehouse, and was active in Deborah Circle. Balloon Fiesta was one of her favorite times of year and, just like New York, her garden was always in bloom. Dora's bright smile and her ability to laugh, especially at herself, endeared her to everyone she met. She will be missed. A special thanks to the staff at Sunbridge West Mesa Health Care Center for their wonderful care of Dora for the last five years of her life and to the nursing staff at Saint Joseph's West Mesa Hospital and Saint Joseph's Northeast Heights Hospital for their care and compassion during her last hours. Quintero -- Joseph O. Quintero, age 82, a resident of Albuquerque for 54 years, died Sunday morning, November 12, 2000 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease. He was a committed husband, a loving father and loyal friend who was an inspiration to all who knew him. Born on September 19, 1918 in Fort Worth, Texas the eldest of nine children to Faustino Quintero and Lorenza Olivas, he moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1946 and began a career with the federal government as a research technician. Previous to this time, he served as a Corporal in the United States Army during World War II. He was captured on the Island of Corregidor in the Philippines and endured four and a half years as a prisoner of war. He was awarded numerous medals including the New Mexico Medal of Honor, Silver Star, Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart. During his imprisonment he managed to make an American flag that was inspirational to his fellow POW's and to others after the war ended. The story of this flag is well documented in various books and articles of World War II history. He was an active member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish for many years. People have been touched by his enthusiasm and humor whether it be at home, work, church, or bicycling around the North Valley. He will be missed by all and remembered with great love. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gladys Ann Baltz-Quintero and their four children and families; Son, Joseph F. Quintero and wife, Josephine, children Nicholas and Serafina; Daughter, Margaret Ann Weber and husband, Joseph B. Weber, children, Allison, Diana and Sara; Son, Leo F. Quintero all of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Daughter, Mary L. Tafoya, and husband, Jacob S. Tafoya, children, Justyna and Isabella of La Mesilla, New Mexico; he is also survived by sisters, Lucy Oliveira, Ruth Scroggins; and brother, John Quintero; among other close family members. The rosary will be held Wednesday, November 15, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. and Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, November 16, 2000 at 12:00 p.m.. Both will take place at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church located at the corner of Fourth and Alameda NW. Burial will follow directly at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. A reception will follow the services at 5:00 p.m. at the Nativity Parish hall. Pallbearers are John Quintero, Joseph B. Weber, Jacob S. Ritchie -- Welton C. "Dub" Ritchie, Jr, LTC (Ret), USAF, 67, a 24-year Albuquerque resident, died Sunday, November 12, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jewel Ritchie of Albuquerque; sons, Jeff Ritchie of Albuquerque, Trey Ritchie, Ogden, UT; daughter, Dianne Roberts of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Chad Ritchie and Nicole Ritchie, both of Ogden, UT and David Roberts of Westminster, CO. He was preceded in death by a son, Robin Ritchie in 1981. Col. Ritchie retired from the USAF with 26 years service. He was a helicopter pilot and a veteran of Vietnam. Russell -- Estill "RUSS" Russell passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2000 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. he was born June 26, 1930 to Henry Earl Russell and Olive Darlene (Sheperd) Russell in Harrisonville, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Olive Russell, his brother, Richard Russell on November 20, 1994 and his son, Michael David Russell on November 4, 1995. He served as a sergeant in the Kansas National Guard and was medically discharged in 1954. Ninety days later he was drafted into the U.S. Army by your friends and neighbors. He served two years and acquired an education in telecommunications at Fort Benning, Georgia then transferred to Albuquerque, NM. to complete his army service. He then went on to dedicate 28 more years to civil service, 16 of those years as a telephone installer at Sandia Base and seven more years as a Department of Energy maintenance and repairman. In 1985 at the age of 55, Russ retired and built a home in Caballo with his wife where he resided until his time of death. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Carlie Jean Russell of the family home in Caballo NM; one daughter, Terrie Jean Henderson and husband, Sam of Flora Vista, NM; three grandsons, Jeremy Clay Henderson attending N.M.S.U. in Las Cruces, NM, Zachary Marc Henderson of Flora Vista, NM, and Adam Michael Russell; also surviving is his son, Kevin Lee Russell and wife, Heather of Erie, Pa; one brother, James Ervin Russell and wife, Evelyn of LaCygne, KS; one sister, Margaret Ottoway and husband, Walt of Ottawa, KS; many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors who will greatly miss him. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2000 from 1:00 p.m. till 5:00 p.m. and on Friday November 17, 2000 from 9:00 a.m. till 12:00 p.m. Noon in the chapel of French Mortuary. Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2000 with Rev. Julia Paulsen of the Los Lunas Assembly of god Church officiating. Casket Bearers will be Denny Hall, Randy Hall, J.W. Scheck -- Rose F. Scheck, 79, a resident of Rio Rancho passed away Saturday, November 11, 2000. Rose was born in Nebraska on March 31st to William and Cecilia Lienert Rempe. She was married to her beloved husband, William on February 13, 1945. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. Rose was preceded in death by her son, Anthony in 1974. Tijerina -- Mr. Reyes Hugh (David) Tijerina, age 53, born July 30, 1947, went with the Lord Saturday, November 11, 2000. Mr. Tijerina was preceded in death by his brother, Danny Tijerina. Van Cleave -- Vanessa Van Cleave, age 41, passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday November 11, 2000. She is survived by her mother and best friend, Jo Ann Van Cleave; sisters, Tacy Van Cleave and husband Robert Warder, and Vickie McGinley all of Albuquerque; brother, Kevin Van Cleave and wife Janet of White Rock; nephews, Robert and Eli McGinley of Albuquerque, and Ryan Van Cleave of White Rock; niece, Cameron Van Cleave of White Rock; Aunt, Karen Welli of Rio Rancho; Cousin, Susan Welli of Portland; and many other relatives. Wakefield -- Margaret Jean Wakefield, age 62, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2000. Westmark -- Charles I. Westmark, 71, born February 11, 1929, passed away Friday, November 10, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cleo; daughter and son-in-law, Erica and Paul Montoya; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Sheryl Westmark; daughter and son-in-law, Ilsa and Mike Ortiz; grandchildren, Jade and Jasmine Montoya, Charlie Westmark, and Samantha Kesler. He is also survived by brothers, Jim and Leo Westmark of Dubque, IA, Bob Westmark of Swanton, OH; sister, Ruth Middleman of Dubuque, IA; and many friends. He served in the US Army (1948-1953), two tours in Korea (1950 & 1951). He received Purple Hearts and Battle Stars. He worked for Sandia National Labs for 31 years and retired in 1986. He then was the Senior Scientific Consultant for CSC for five years and retired in 1991. He will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
