Barela -- Gilbert Barela, 38, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away suddenly on July 13, 2000. Gilbert is survived by his wife, Cassandra Barela; and three children, Isabel, Felicia, and Jeaneva. Also surviving are his parents, Isabel and Amador Barela; four brothers, Johnny Barela, Fidel Barela, Amador Barela and wife, Melinda, and Filomeno Barela; and five sisters, Gloria Montano and husband, Paul, Katy Garcia, Yolanda Montano and husband, Raymond, Sandra Barela, and Theresa Fay and husband, Robert. Friends may visit today, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited this evening, 7:00 p.m., at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday Morning at 10:00 a.m. also at the church. Bush -- Allene Frances Bush, 45, a resident of Albuquerque died, Thursday, July 13, 2000. She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Christopher Bush; children, Rachel Christine and Samantha Nicole Bush; mother, Margaret McGee; brother, James T. McGee Jr.; and sisters, Kathy Rimsha, Marilyn Hofheins and R. Marie McGee. She was preceded in death by her dad, James T. McGee. She graduated from Sandia High School with Honors. She received her certificate in Dental Hygiene in June of 1976. She graduated from UNM in 1991, where she received her Bachelor degree in Dental Hygiene with Summa Cum Laude. Allene was a member of Dental Hygiene Honor Society Sigma Phi Alpha and completed the Western Regional examining board for her Anesthesiology certificate in 1993, Honor Society Phi Kappa Phi and a member of Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Her most important passion in life was her personal relationship with the Lord, which made her the most wonderful wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend, and loving aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. She was an avid golfer, gardener and enjoyed cooking. Memorial service will be held Monday, 6:00 p.m., at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1816 Academy Rd. Crossman -- Sydney Russell Crossman, 91, a resident of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away July 13, 2000. Mr. Crossman was born in Brooklyn, New York and was the owner of Last Stop Liquor Store in Albuquerque. He was in the US Army Air Corps, member of F&AM, Shriner Mounted Patrol, and Bernalillo County Sheriffs Posse, and retired in 1967. He is survived by his two sons, Steven Crossman and Harlan Crossman; nephew, Leslie Pickus; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Ferguson -- G. Donald Ferguson, 80, a resident of Albuquerque since 1969, died Thursday, July 13, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Ferguson; daughter, Cathy Allen and husband, Tom; grandson, Shawn Allen, all of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Melissa Hodge of West Des Moines, IA; and sister, Ida Klahre of Clearville, PA. Mr. Ferguson was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and two brothers. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the Army Air Corps. Mr. Ferguson was a member of Netherwood Park Church of Christ. Hazlewood -- Mary S. Hazlewood, a resident of Albuquerque since 1988, died on July 12, 2000. She was born in Mineral Wells, TX to Albert W. and Cora Ford Stokes, and was a former resident of Ada, OK. When she and her husband, Louis J. Hazlewood retired, they moved to Albuquerque. They enjoyed many leisure hours at their cabin in Jemez and also volunteered and promoted the Cumbres-Toltec Railroad. Mary is survived by her husband, Louis J. Hazlewood; children, Sue H. Rosencutter and husband, Bill of Tulsa, OK, and Terry D. Hazlewood and wife, Janie of Denver, CO; and two grandchildren, Austin Louis Hazlewood and Mary Ballard Brunson. Horton -- David Perry Horton, 80, a resident of Los Lunas for five years, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Olive Altizer Horton of Los Lunas; and daughters, Pamela Sue Horton of Chesapeake, VA and Patricia Rose Horton of Los Lunas. Mr. Horton was a graduate of Holtsville High School in Millbrook, AL. He served in the U.S. Air Army Air Corps during WWII and was honorably discharged. Mr. Horton was a former Justice of the Peace. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Vulcan Fraternal Masonic Lodge #823 in Birmingham, AL and was also a Shriner. Mr. Horton was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grantsville, WV. He was active in the Republican Party. Services will be held Monday, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Jacobson -- Elna Lily Jacobson, age 89, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, July 13, 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Moreno and husband, Secundino of Albuquerque; sister, Rosalie Haines and husband, Hank of Northville, MI; eight grandchildren, Cheryl Winland, Kathleen Wilkel and Kristina Moreno of Albuquerque, Steven Moreno of Santa Fe, Courtney Hines of Peralta, Colleen ApMadoc of Farmington Hills, Mi, Florence McCullough of Orion Twp., MI, and Susan Owen of New Albany, MS; 15 great-grandchildren, Charles, Duane, Jason, Kevin, Lisa, Jacob, Joslyn, Amanda, Fiona, Candice, Brenna, Rachael, Hugh, Jeremy, and Troy; two great-great-grandchildren, Xzavier and Gabriel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arne Jacobson; daughters, Evelyn Hines and Lois Winland; grandson, Brett Winland; sister, Ann Luplow; brothers, Neil Fredericksen and Arnold Fredericksen. Elna was born to Maren and Neils Fredericksen on December 10, 1910 in Detroit, MI. She married Arne Jacobson on November 2, 1929 and lovingly raised three daughters. Elan and Arne retired to Albuquerque in July, 1969. Elna was a loving mother and grandmother, a soft, sweet, patient spirit with deep Christian faith, who was an inspiration to others. She devoted her life to her home, family and friends, always willing to quietly listen. She was very proud of her Danish heritage, and lovingly passed down many Scandinavian family traditions. She delighted family and friends with her beautiful, award-winning needlework, and spoiled them with her wonderful cooking talents and Scandinavian specialties. She will be greatly missed byher family, her many friends at Bear Canyon Estates, and her newfound friends at Laurel View Nursing Center. Johnson -- Craig Johnson, 59, a resident of Albuquerque since 1977, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sandra Johnson of the family home; sons, Geoffrey C. Johnson of Key Largo, FL, Tige C. Johnson and wife, Yvonne C. of Chicago, IL, and Reuel C. Johnson of Albuquerque; sisters, Sherrill Creer and husband, Ronald and Jill Rodriguez, all of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Kent Johnson and wife, Carol of Snohomish, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Johnson was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 49. Mr. Johnson was involved in numerous organizations and community activities during his years here in Albuquerque. His love of travel was just one of his many interests. Joyce -- Daniel R. Joyce, 63, passed away July 11, 2000. Formerly of Tarentum, PA, he graduated from Tarentum High School in 1954. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1954 and retired from active duty in 1975. He was in the Fleet Reserve in Albuquerque and a member of the American Legion Post #49. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel A. and Orpha L. (Grant) Joyce; brothers, David Grant Joyce and John Patrick Joyce; sister, Mrs. Thomas (Helen) Stabile. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Johanna Brower Joyce; three sisters, Mrs. John (Mary Ann) Jankowski of Tarentum, PA, Mrs. Robert (Margaret) Sherwood of El Paso, TX and Mrs. Robert (Elizabeth) Montoya of Freemont, CA; and numerous loving nieces and nephews who loved and will miss him. Keppler -- Jeremy Charles Keppler passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 13, 2000, after a three month battle with a brain tumor. He was born October 2, 1970 in Portland, OR and had lived in Albuquerque since 1984. Jeremy graduated from El Dorado High School in 1989, and from UNM in 1998 with a B.A. in History. He was a training specialist at Camp Fire Boys and Girls. Jeremy was a member of Harvest Community Church where he was a Sunday School teacher. He is survived by his wife, Brenda; parents, Daryl and Myrna Keppler, all of Albuquerque; sister, Jennifer Milligan of Rosemond, CA; grandparents, Tom and June Kelley of Portland, OR; motherťin-law and father-in-law, Kay and Don Jantz of Albuquerque; sisters-in-law, Kelly LaBonte of Kenosha, WI, Emily Jantz and Sandee Reeve and husband, John, all of Albuquerque, and Linda Keeney and husband, Wayland of Tribune, KS; brother-in-law, Nicholas Jantz of Denver, CO; nieces and nephews, Shalee Rose, Jonathan Daniel, Jason and Jeremy; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; and a great many grieving friends. Keylon -- Jack Keylon passed away July 14, 2000 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque. He was one of the first patients to survive open heart surgery in 1959, a valve replacement in 1973, a heart transplant in 1978, and became one of the longest heart transplant survivors. Jack was preceded in death by his mother, Blanche and father, William Keylon. He is survived by his wife, Lily; two sons, Gene Keylon and wife, Lee, and Bill Keylon and wife, Nikki; daughter, Trish Ransom and husband, Dan; three grandchildren, Sarah Keylon, Cassie Ransom, and Elizabeth Johnson; two grandsons, Stephen Ransom and Timothy Keylon; two brothers, Paul Keylon and wife, Lisa, and Vernon Keylon and wife, Bertha; sister, Helen Galloway; and many nieces and nephews. Kunitz -- Robert Kunitz passed away suddenly during the afternoon of July 12 while dozing in an easy chair. The longtime resident of Farmington had been living in Las Colinas Retirement Center in Albuquerque for two and a half years. He celebrated his 89th birthday on July 4. Robert is survived by one sister; three sons; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Verdi, who died in 1980 after a lengthy illness; and a brother, Carl in 1982. Survivors include Jim and wife, Sharon of Albuquerque, Don Robert and wife, Kara of Tucson, and William of Tempe, AZ; granddaughters include Ann Roberta Kunitz of Grapevine, TX, Jill Kunitz Hays and husband, Shane of Fremont, CA, Briana Kunitz of Tucson, and Kristin Kunitz and Katie Kunitz, both of Farmington; grandson, Alric Kunitz lives and works in Tempe, AZ and Logan Kunitz is a student in Austin, TX; sister, Helen Goman and husband, Robert reside in Milwaukee, WS."Bob" Kunitz was born July 4, 1911 in Appleton, Wisconsin. He lettered in football, basketball and track at Appleton High School, where he was awarded the American Legion medal for athletics and scholarship. He attended the University of Wisconsin and received a B.A. in physical education from Wisconsin State Teachers College - LaCrosse in 1935. He married Verdi Stewart, a college classmate in 1939, and coached for a number of years in Wisconsin and Arizona. After secession from coaching, Robert and Verdi, with three children, moved to Farmington in 1956, where both taught at the elementary level in Farmington Public Schools. Robert retired from teaching in 1976. His retirement included active participation in the First Presbyterian Church of Farmington, BPOE Lodge #1747, Masonic Lodge, and Farmington York Rite Bodies. He had been an Elk for 62 years. Visitation will be Monday, July 17, from 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 17, 2000 at the First Presbyterian Church in Farmington with Dr. Frank Hayes officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of La Quey Funeral Home.

Miller -- Joseph Southworth (Joe) Miller, long-time resident of Las Cruces and Albuquerque, died peacefully at the age of 86 in Albuquerque on July 9, 2000. Born in Chicago in 1914, he graduated from Yale University in 1936 and pursued a career in accounting. He moved with his family to New Mexico in 1952 to work at Sandia Corporation. After retiring in 1974, Joe and his wife moved to Las Cruces and Good Samaritan Village where he pursued his many interests, enjoyed the company of family and friends, and competed both locally and nationally in Senior Olympic Swimming events. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Odessa of Las Cruces; sons, Hank and Bo; daughters-in-law, Rosemary and Kathleen; and granddaughter, Eldaa, all of Albuquerque. Nagy -- Cecelia Blanche Nagy, 76, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 15, 2000. Blanche was born in Toledo, OH on October 25, 1923. She has resided in the Albuquerque-Belen area since 1952. She is survived by four children; sons, Nick Nagy and wife, Ann of Los Alamos, sons, Tom Nagy and wife, Tish of Los Lunas, and Bob Nagy of Mesa, AZ; daughter, Mary Urban and husband, Bill of Canby, OR. She is also survived by ten grandchildren; and 5 1/2 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death her husband of 53 years, Nicholas Joseph Nagy and a grandson, Marcus Daniel Nagy. She was a member of the Community Bible Church of Los Lunas. She will be greatly missed by her family. Peterson -- Carolyn N. Peterson passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 9, at her Rio Communities home in Belen. Born and raised in El Paso, TX, Carolyn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in El Paso, graduating from UTEP where she majored in Art. Our soulful, beautiful lover of life, music, all the arts; our lady of the Valley, is survived by her twin sister, Marolyn Peterson and beloved nephew, Richard Semple IV; nephews, Julian Islas, Donny and Jonathan Peterson; nieces, Kristina Islas and Jennifer Phillips; brother, Don Peterson; sister, Debra Islas, all from El Paso, TX, Anthony and Santa Teresa, NM. Vega -- Albert Swan Vega, 68, a native of Carrizozo, NM, passed away Friday, July 14, 2000. Mr. Vega was a member of the Catholic Church and proud to serve his country in the Army during the Korean War. He served the citizens of New Mexico as a State Highway Patrolman for 17 years. He is survived by Yvonne"Bonnie" Vega; sons, Anthony Barela, Albert"Beto" Vega and Donna Bustos, Aaron Stephen Vega; daughters, Anne Magdelene and husband, Orlando, Angela Vega, Amanda Trujillo and husband, Anthony; brothers, Joe Vega and wife, Isabel, Edward Vega and wife, Josie; sisters, Julia Samora and husband, Rito and Mary McKinley.
