Baca -- Macedonio C. (M.C.) Baca, 87, a lifelong resident of Belen, passed on to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 7, 2000, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Our beloved father was born on September 13, 1912 in Belen to Eloisa and Alberto Baca. He was educated in Belen, a graduate of the 1st class of St. Mary School. He started out as a farmer along with his father and went on to become a successful businessman in the community. He was the founder of Baca Oil Co., Baca Auto Sales, Baca Chevrolet, Mt. View Motel, and Whiteway Cafe. He was a member of the original board of directors of Ranchers State Bank. M.C. retired in 198 and spent his remaining years gardening and visiting with his family. He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church and he and his wife, Angelina served as Padrinos for Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on two separate occasions. He was also a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus and the League of the Sacred Heart. M.C. was preceded in death by his loving wife, Angelina in 1996. M.C. is survived by his seven loving children, his four daughters, Mary Jane B. Sanchez and her husband, Joe, Elsie B. and Marty Sachs, Margaret Baca and her husband, Ned, Tina Baca and her husband, Mike; three sons, Ruben and his wife, Barbara, Leroy Baca and his wife, Sylvia, Mac Baca Jr. and his wife, Anita; his 25 loving grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; his sister, Emily Moya; his two brothers-in-law, Juan Orona and Frank Orona; one sister-in-law, Melinda Orona. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. also at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, James Sanchez, Rodney Baca, Bobby Sachs, Paul, Mark, Michael, and Roberto Baca; and great-grandson, Ryan Espinosa. Honorary pallbearers will be his other grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his part-time caregiver and neighbor, Lorenzo Zamora. Cole -- Gregory L. Cole, age 48, son of Harold and Ellen Cole, died in the Albuquerque Veteran's Hospital on May 6, 2000 of cancer as the result of the effects of the Gulf War and Vietnam Conflict. Greg was born in Pennsylvania and moved to Albuquerque in 1959 as a young child. He graduated in 1969 from Del Norte HS and enlisted in the Navy in 1970, serving in Lakehurst, NJ, Pensacola, FL, Yokosuka, Japan, (2) tours in Vietnam and the Persian Gulf. Chief Cole was a catapult operator, serving on the USS Ranger, USS Lexington and the USS Midway, sailing her home to decommissioning. Chief Cole served with the U.S. Navy Recruiting District until his retirement in June or 1996. He was awarded the Kuwait Liberation Medal, S.W. Asia Liberation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, AF Expedition Medal, National Defense Medal, Navy Expedition Medal, Good Conduct Medal w/4 stars, Sea Service Medal and Battle"E" Medal. Gregory is survived by his daughter, Michelle of Vineland, NJ; son, Gregory Joseph of Albuquerque; sister, Lana Johnson of Littleton, CO; and nephew, Kenneth Johnson of Austin, TX; sister, Merrie Alice Basham; and nephew, Brandon; niece, Kendall Basham of Nashville, TN; and aunts, uncles and cousins in Pennsylvania. Also left behind were his beloved dogs, Sandy and Pebbles. Greg was always a happy, humorous person, making everyone around him aware of his love of life. Per his request, Gregory chose no viewing and cremation. Memorial services for Chief Cole will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 12, 2000 at the Kirtland AFB Chapel (1950 2nd St., Bldg. 20107( (2nd and B Street). Services will be conducted by Chaplain (Captain) Kenyon with the eulogy given by APD Chaplain Raymond Loomis, a lifelong friend of Greg's. Burial will be at sea. Special thanks from his parents to the nurses and doctors at the SICU for his special care and love. Those wishing to attend, please use the Wyoming Gate to proceed to the Chapel. Conn -- Kelsi Conn, age 6, of Ft. Collins, Colorado, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at the Children's Hospital in Denver. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at the Vineyard Church, 1201 Riverside Ave., Ft. Collins. Pastor Rick Olmstead is officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday until 3:00 p.m., at Goes Funeral Home, or after 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the church. Kelsi Conn was born September 6, 1993 in Albuquerque to Patrick Neal Conn and Kristine Van Winkle Conn. She lived formerly in Rio Rancho and moved to Ft. Collins three years ago. She was a first grader at Bauder Elementary School and attended Vineyard Christian Fellowship and belonged to AWANAS. She played dolls and babies with her sister, and also loved to play kitty cat. She enjoyed jumping on the trampoline, riding her bike, climbing trees, fishing, and going to the mountains. Kelsi was a typical little girl with a zest for life; she was full of sugar and spice, and usually would be found with skinned knees and bruises, and looking for something to eat. Kelsi is survived by her mother, Kristi Conn of Ft. Collins; her father, Patrick Conn of Rio Rancho; two sisters, Kayla and Kourtney; her maternal grandparents, Arlene and Leon Knox of Ft. Collins; her paternal grandparents, Marie and Harry Nestor of Rio Rancho; her maternal great-grandparents, Milda Reu of Ft. Collins and Harold and Bernice Van Winkle of Appleton, MN; her paternal great-grandmother, Gladys Conn of Phoenix, AZ; and several aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Richard Van Winkle and James R. Conn. She is survived by her sons, Pablo Garcia and wife, Irene, Gilbert Garcia and wife, Modisita, all of Tijeras, Jerry Garcia and wife, Mary, and Robert Garcia, all of Albuquerque; daughters, Julia Garcia of Albuquerque, Angelina Garcia of Tijeras, Carlotta Garcia and husband, Florenio of Canuel, NM and Bennie Padilla and husband, Robert of Tijeras; daughter-in-law, Tillie Garcia of Tijeras; son-in-law, Jose Martinez of Tijeras; 39 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; 3 great-great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gibanica -- Samuel Gibanica, 84, passed away May 6, 2000. He retired as an Army Lt. Colonel after serving his country for 30 years. He worked as an automotive salesman, receiving awards from Mercedes and Cadillac. He was a devoted husband, father and"Papa" who dearly loved his family. Godfrey -- Eric Robert Godfrey 36 years old of Albuquerque, NM born in Lubbock, TX, passed away at St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe, NM on Monday May 8, 2000 from injuries he received in a motorcycle accident. He was a graduate of Del Norte High School in 1982. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1982-1986 and was a Sergeant with Department of Corrections since 1993 at the State Corrections Facility in Santa Fe, NM. He is survived by his wife Nicol and daughter Meredith-Ann of the family home; his father Richard E. Godfrey of Jacksboro, TX; mother Diane E. Godrey-Daily of El Paso, TX; brother Craig R. Godfrey of San Angelo, TX; and a multitude of family of friends. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2000 at Cathedral of St. Johns, 3rd and Silver SW, Albuquerque, NM. Iglio -- Josephine Iglio, 93, a resident of Rio Rancho, residing at Acantilado Vista Retirement Community, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2000. Josephine was born July 18, 1906, the daughter of Angelo and Josephine Leone Sgammato in Brooklyn, New York. She did hand sewing for a clother in New York before retiring. Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Domenico in 1972. She is survived by four children, Tony Iglio and his wife, Arlene of Alameda, Charles Iglio and wife, Frances of Ozark, MO, Mechela Dicks of Virginia, Josephine Horton of Georgia; two brothers, Charles and Louis Sgammato of New York; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Lathrop -- Jennie S. Lathrop passed away Sunday, May 7, 2000 at Lovelace Medical Center. She had been a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, residing in La Vida Llena Retirement Community since 1990. Jennie was born in Fayetteville, AR on July 21, 1912. She married Loyt Lathrop in 1933 while both were attending Kansas State College (now University) in Manhattan, KS. During WWII, Jennie served as a civilian employee of the Army Signal Corp. She first received her amateur radio operator's license in 1937 and was active as W5YSJ until 1988. During that time, she assisted with communications between their families and the scientists and military personnel stationed in Antarctica and Greenland. Jennie made her community better through her service as scout leader, school volunteer, church volunteer and volunteer for many other community activities. She is survived by her husband, Loyt Lathrop; her son, Kenneth; her daughter, Wendy Manzo; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Her infectious smile and cheerful attitude will be missed by all who knew her. A Memorial service will be held for her at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 10, at Carter Hall, La Vida Llena, 10501 Lagrima de Oro NE, with Rev. Norton Scrimshire and Rev. Jim Massey officiating. Maes -- J. Manuel Maes, age 86, a resident of Santa Cruz, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2000, due to a lengthy illness. Mr. Maes was born in Alamosa, CO and received his elementary education there before moving to the Espanola Valley, where his grandparents lived. Mr. Maes came to be well known throughout his 30 plus year career as an educator and administrator with most of that being at Santa Cruz High School. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon and Carmelita Maes; his wife, Maria E. Maes; two sons, Bobby and Eugene Maes; and one brother, Guillermo Maes. He is survived by his children, Manuel R. Maes of Fairview, George, Matthew and Alfred Maes, all of the home, Eddie Maes and wife, Edna of Pojoaque, Carmen Gonzales and husband, Rudy of Santa Cruz, Rev. Fr. Clarence Maes of St. Anne's Parish, Santa Fe, and Anthony Maes of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Damon Paul Maes, Chris R. Maes, Yvonne, Arthur and Jerome Quintana, Alicia Gonzales and Ramona Salazar; three great-grandchildren, Desiree Quintana, Benito Maestas Jr. and Raylynn Quintana, and one due in May. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2000 at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada. Mathews -- Mr. Patrick Mathews died Sunday in Albuquerque at the age of 34. Patrick was born in Glenwood Springs, CO and had been a resident of Albuquerque for 20 years. He graduated from Rio Grande High School in 1983. He was preceded in death by his father, Pat Mathews; grandparents, Barney and Irene Romero; and brother, Gilbert Urban. Nally -- Eugene Victor Nally (Gene-"UncleBud") passed away on Monday May 8, 2000 after complications from emphysema. He was born on December 25, 1926, the 12th child of Matthew and Mary Nally in Detroit, Michigan. Gene retired from ABF in 1989 as a teamster member of local #492. He was a member of the teamsters for 37 years."Uncle Bud" was an avid outdoorsmen, he loved camping, fishing, and playing guitar with his friends. He also loved his little dog, Ajax. He will be missed by his many relatives, friends, and neighbors. He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Evelyn of the family hom in Los Lunas; three loving children, Terry and his wife, Cindy; Vickie Parker and her husband, Charley; and Mary Abeyta; 7 loving granchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Ann Meriney of Albuquerque; son, Keith Strain and wife, Betsy of Ada, OK; grandchildren, Trey Hoffman of Dallas, TX, Tiffany Turetzky and husband, David of New York, NY, and John D. Strain of Dallas, TX. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Strain on November 19, 1998. Dr. Strain was a graduate of Yale Divinity School, Butler University, and Texas Christian University. He pastored for 50+ years in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Independance, IN, Salem, OR, and two church in Lubbock. He was also the author of three books. Dr. Strain was the driving force in the founding of Contact Lubbock, and the International Cultural Center at Texas Tech. He retired in 1990 at the age of 80 and chose to move to Albuquerque to be close to his daughter. Dr. Strain was a member of Monte Vista Christian Church of Albuquerque. Memorial services will be held Friday, May 12, 200, 11:00 a.m., at Monte Vista Christian Church, 3501 Campus Blvd. NE, with Rev. Fred Dorisse and Rev. Keith D. Strain officiating. Wilson -- Donald J. Wilson, 73, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away at his home on Saturday, May 6. He was a long-time, active member of the Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Known as"Poppa Don" or"Mr. Don" by many children and young people, he was a retired Greyhound Bus driver with 32 years and over 3 million miles of service. A courageous and decorated veteran, Don served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. In retirement years,"Poppa Don" worked alongside wife, Shirley, in the DLD Sycamore School located at their church. His love for children and young people was well known. While he could, at times, be firm, he was extremely compassionate and caring, and his God-given gifts of faith, helps, and giving were constantly evident to young and old alike. An avid fisherman, he will always be remembered for his 12 foot fly rod and his love of fording the Cimarron River in Northern New Mexico, near Dawson, where he was born, December 19, 1926. One of the truly special"Dinosaurs" he will also be remembered for his radiant smile, wonderful sense of humor, penchant for taking out the trash, and gifts of two dollar bills. Married 54 years, Don is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley; sons, Don and wife, Linda, Rocky and friend, Flo, Gary and wife, Laura; grandchildren, Kimberly Ellison and husband, Jason, Kelly Wilson, Yvonne Arrossa and husband, Sean, Brock, Lacey, and Jake Wilson; great-grandaughter, Nikeya Arrossa; father, Jack Pacetti; brother, Jackie Pacetti and wife, Marian; sister, Sheryl Casias and husband, Robert; and a number of nephews and nieces. Visitation will be 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 11, at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 8600 Academy N.E. A Memorial Service of Thanksgiving is scheduled at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 12, also at Heights. It was"Poppa Don's" desire that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to DLD's Sycamore School or HCPC's Good Samaritan Fund, both at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 8600 Academy N.E.
