Akin -- Philmore Donald (Don) Akin, age 84, of Santa Fe, died at his home on Thursday, April 13, 2000. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loweta Akin; and his mother, Eleanor Akin. Don was born on November 3, 1917 in Hot Springs, AR. He was a graduate of the University of New Mexico. Before his retirement he was employed as a civil engineer for the U.S. Geological Survey and NM State Engineer's Office. He was a member of St. John's Methodist Church. He is survived by his sons, Robert Akin of California; sister, Doris Neeb of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Charleene of California; and niece, Georgia Daves and husband, Gary of Bosque Farms. Visitation will begin on Saturday, April 15, 12:30 p.m., at Berardinelli Family Chapel, where a Funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque. Beauchamp -- Malcolm"Mac" Beauchamp, 82, a resident of Albuquerque for 53 years, passed away on April 7, 2000. Mac is survived by his wife, Judy; his daughter, Rhonda Blech and husband, Forrest; and sons, Richard, and Ronald and wife, Cecilia Navarrete; three grandchildren, Carla Beauchamp and husband, Joel Jacobsen, Annalise and Gretchen Blech; great-grandsons, Alexander, Scott and Benjamin Jacobsen; and Judy's son, James Mason and wife, Mary. Born in Havre, Montana on March 7, 1918 to Samuel Wintrode Beauchamp and Clare Andre Beauchamp, Mac was raised in Sioux City, Iowa, where he graduated from Central High School in 1936. He attended Park College in Kansas City, Missouri and Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa before moving his family to Los Angeles, California during WWII, where he worked for Northrop Aviation. Mac came to Albuquerque on February 14, 1947 to work as a watchmaker. He and his former wife, Ione Beauchamp opened Beauchamp and Company Jewelers in 1951. While owner of Beauchamp's, Mac was a watchmaker, a jeweler, and was instrumental in forming the New Mexico Retail Jewelers Association, of which he served as President in 1966. In 1974, he founded Clocks, Inc., where a wide variety of clocks were repaired and sold. Mac loved to use his woodworking talents to make custom designed clocks and repair antique clock cases. Mac and Judy had recently retired to Sun City, Arizona. A Memorial service will be held on April 22, 2000, 3:00 p.m., at Anderson Valley Vineyards. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Animal Humane Association and the American Heart Association.

Childress -- Deacon Howard B. Childress was born January 19, 1911 in Marlin, Texas to the home of Joe and Mamie Ratliff Childress. He was raised in Marlin and later moved to Clovis, where he was a member of the First Street Church of God in Christ now the First Church of God in Christ, where he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He served many years faithfully on the Deacon's Board and as Sunday School Superintendent. He is survived by his wife, Lillie Childress of Albuquerque; step-children, Billy George Johnson, Jo Ella Redmon and Amanda Lewis, all of Albuquerque; a brother, John Childress of Waco, TX; sisters, Lorine Jackson of Albuquerque and Berniece Wallace of Fort Worth, TX; and by many loving step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents, five brothers, and two sisters. Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at Joy Light Church of God in Christ, 409 Santa Fe SE, with Bishop W.C. Green and Superintendent Claude Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Robert Ervin, Harold Barefield, Randy Jackson, Duriel McDonnell, Cleveland Johnson and Marvin Ross. Cordova -- Josephina Cordova de Gonzales, 88, went to be with her Lord Jesus on Wednesday, April 12, 2000. She was born on February 06, 1912 in La Joya, NM to Estaniflado Cordova and Veronica Mascarenas de Cordova. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lino B. Gonzales whom she was married to for 48 loving years. She is survived by her daughter Peggy Gonzales of Albuquerque; her sons, Arthur Gonzales of Albuquerque, Lino Gonzales and his wife, Christina Band de Gonzales of Denver, CO; two grandchildren, Kira Ann Gonzales of Denver, CO, Dr. Andrei J. Gonzales and his wife, Dr. Kristi Larsen de Gonzales of Olympia, WA; a brother, Sisto Cordova and his wife, Helen Cordova of Barstow, CA; a sister, Onaceima Cordova de Padilla and her husband, Felipe Padilla of Belen; numerous beloved nieces and nephews, and many good friends which she had over her lifetime. She will be dearly missed by all whose life she touched. A Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 14, at Steadman-Hall Funeral Home in Socorro. A Funeral Mass will be held at San Miguel Church in Socorro at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 15. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Cunico -- Mike R. Cunico, age 91, died on April 10, at Miners Colfax Medical Center. He was born on January 11, 1909 in Raton, the son of the late Joe and Marcolina (Rigoni) Cunico. Mike was a Raton resident since 1971, prior to that he was a rancher and a self employed welder in Kiowa. His family were original homesteaders and longtime ranchers in the Kiowa area. Mike was an avid arrowhead hunter and loved walking the countryside with his friends looking for Indian artifacts. He may never walk this way again, but he will never be forgotten. He was preceded in death by sisters, Josephine, Edith, Toni, Rena; and brother, Joe Cunico. Survivors include wife of 68 years, Vallie Cunico of the family home in Raton; daughter, Shirley Cunico Hooper and husband, Chuck of Cimarron; sons, Donald E. Cunico and wife, Shirley of Alamogordo, John J. Cunico and wife, Georgia of Albuquerque, Gerald L. Cunico and wife, Karen of Kremling, CO; sisters, Mary Rigoni, Eva Hardgrove and Janie Scott; grandsons, Dean, Mike, Shane, Jeff, Brad Cunico and Mike Gardiner; granddaughters, Terrie Rienke, LaDonna Maxwell, Carrie Craig, Kathy Reece, Kaycee and Kara Hooper; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2:00 p.m., at the First Christian Church with Rev. Jack Walton officiating. Interment will follow in Farmington Cemetery. Doak -- Verena Vida Doak, age 86, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, died Monday night. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jennings Doak in 1964. She is survived by her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A graduate of UNM, a one time school teacher, and with her husband, the owner/operator of the Pueblo Drug in Espanola. She had been a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Faith, and active with the St. Vincent's Hospital Auxiliary and other organizations in Santa Fe. A Memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, at Episcopal Church of the Holy Faith, 311 East Palace Ave., Santa Fe, with the Reverend Dale Coleman officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of the Holy Faith Organ Fund. Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle NE, are in charge of cremation arrangements.

Hemminger -- Carrol Max Hemminger died on April 13, 2000 in Abilene, Texas at the age of 67. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2000 in the Harrell Memorial Chapel in Dublin, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Genna Hemminger of Dubin, TX; two children, Darral Hemminger and wife, Cindy of Clovis, and Brenda Hatchison and her husband, Dave of Granbury, TX; also by seven grandchildren; two brothers, Joe Hemminger and wife, Dee of Taos and Jerry Hemminger and wife, Eva of Wichita Falls, TX; and his mother-in-law, Ruby Corregan of Dublin, TX. He was a retired employee of US West Telephone Co.

Heneghan -- Marie Heneghan, 63, a resident of Albuquerque since 1973, formerly of Ohio, died Monday, April 10, 2000. She is survived by her daughters, Catherine Fay and husband, Chris, and Cheryl Henderson; sons, Robert and wife, Juliet, James and wife, Adell, and Mathew Heneghan; and grandchildren, Judson, Anna, Jorden, and Joseph Heneghan and Michael Fay. Marie lived a full life and will be remembered as a loving friend. Holmberg -- Robert E. Holmberg, 74, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away April 12, 2000. Mr. Holmberg was born on May 29, 1925 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to W.W. and Evelyn Avery Holmberg. Prior to, and after the war, he hauled feed and grains for the family business in Ordway, Colorado. Mr. Holmberg served in WWII in the Pacific Theater on the USS Henry T. Allen. He married the former Betty Lee Dennis of Olney Springs, Colorado on June 26, 1949. Mr. Holmberg had lived in Albuquerque since 1958. Mr. Holmberg spent 20 years with Brown Construction Company in Albuquerque as a bookkeeper and road superintendent. After that he was the purchasing agent for the New Mexico State Highway Department and before retiring he was mine manager and representative for Crist and Plateau Mining and Equipment. Mr. Holmberg retired in the late 80's to travel the country with his wife--visiting relatives and making new friends. He is survived by his wife, Betty Lee Holmberg of the home; son, Dennis M. Holmberg and his wife, Debbie of Hobbs; daughter, Nancee J. McClendon and her husband, Bud of Canyon, TX; three granddaughters, Shannon Green and Amanda Vanover of Amarillo, TX, and Kelley Holmberg of Hobbs; great-granddaughter, Adyson Vanover of Amarillo, TX; and sister, Laura Levi of Security, CO. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 14, 2000, at Brooks Chapel with Pastor Dale Travis, Minister of Family Life Fellowship, officiating. Burial will be private. Murer -- Eileen Murer, age 53, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2000. She is survived by her life-partner, Janice Jillson of Rio Rancho; mother, Josephine Murer of Rio Rancho; father, Howard Murer or Rome, New York; brother, James Murer of Dallas, TX; and sister, Joanne Murer of Stillwater, OK. Eileen was a member of the American Mental Health Counselors Association. She served in the Army from 1966-1969. Eileen then worked for the Air Force, as a civilian, for 23 years until she retired. Scott -- Willard A. Scott, Lt. Col. (Ret.) AUS, 69, of Laguna Pueblo and the village of Paguate, a resident of Albuquerque since 1972, died April 11, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Lea Yandell Scott of Albuquerque; son, Mark Scott and his wife, Barbara, their children, Travis, Sarah, Emily and Becka, all of Sunapee, NH; son, Jeff Scott and his wife, Dawn, their sons, Peter Ambs, James and Tad Scott, all of Roswell; daughter, Carol and husband, Roy McCallister of Tijeras; mother-in-law, Venia Yandell of Las Cruces; and brother-in-law, Billy Yandell of Dallas, TX. He was preceded in death by his son, James; and his parents, James and Grace Scott. Colonel Scott retired from the U.S. Army in 1980 after 28 years active service and reserve service. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He served as the Native American advisor to the Bishop of the Diocese of the Rio Grande and as a Lay Eucharistic Minister. He was a Life Member of Zia Chapter, the Special Forces Association, The Reserve Officers' Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 401, The War Shield Gourd Society, and the Military Order of the World Wars. Colonel Scott retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 1999. He was with the Division of Student Services as a Guidance Counselor at Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute. the family would like to thank the cardiac care nurses and staff at both Presbyterian Hospital and the Heart Hospital; the doctors and staff of New Mexico Heart Institute and New Heart, Inc.; and especially Drs. Alan King and John Storey. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held on Monday, April 17, 3:00 p.m., at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, 318 Silver SW, Albuquerque. Private internment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
