Cumerford -- Justine (Tina) Cumerford, 81, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went to heaven and to her peace, Sunday, March 26th. Justine was born in Indiana and was a resident of Albuquerque for 49 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence (Larry) Cumerford. She is survived by her four children, Cynthia Selman, Dale Cumerford and wife, Isabel, Nancy Acree and husband, Ed, all of Albuquerque, Patricia Sumruld and husband, Ernest of Euless, TX; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who love and will miss her. A graveside celebration and service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park on Saturday, April 1, and will be officiated by Reverend William Dorn. Fernandez -- Jose (Joe) T. Fernandez, 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1955, died Monday, March 27, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Modesta Garcia Fernandez of Albuquerque; sons, Frank Fernandez and wife, Martha, and Joe Fernandez Jr., all of Denver, CO; daughters, Tillie Sanchez and husband, Louis and Consuelo Edmister and husband, Richard, all of Albuquerque, and Loraine Sanchez and husband, Dennis of Taos, NM; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Juan Fernandez and wife, Viola of Pico Rivera, CA; sisters, Bessie Ortega and husband, Damian, Emiliana Sanchez and husband, Lydio, Viola Mejia, Alice Casados and husband, Randy, and Fidelia Vasquez and husband, Richard; numerous nieces and nephews; and fishing buddy and dear friend, Isa Baca of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by is parents, Porfirio and Genera Lopez Fernandez; brother, Tony Fernandez; sister, Lydia Flores; and grandson, Carlos Raul Sanchez. Mr. Fernandez was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church where he was part of the parish at St. Bernadette. He was also a member of the American Legion, Post 99. Mr. Fernandez was a partner of Menaul T.V. and Radio and an avid fisherman. Rosary will be recited Friday, March 31, 2000, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Deacon Al McLane reciting. Gaunt -- Darrell Paul"Ike" Gaunt died peacefully in his sleep early on Sunday, March 26, 2000. Ike had celebrated his 82nd birthday just two weeks previously, wrapped in the loving arms of his family who survive him, his wife of 59 years, Glendora Gaunt; his daughter, Lindalee Maisel and husband, Norman Maisel; and his daughter, Shelly Campbell and husband, David Campbell all of Albuquerque. He will be missed and fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Karen Maisel of Colorado Springs, Heather and Damon Campbell, Lee Maisel and wife Maria, and great-grandson, Shea Maisel, all of Albuquerque. He is also survived by brothers, David Gaunt of Albuquerque, Mark Gaunt and wife, Louise, Richard Gaunt and wife, Ina; sister-in-law, Mary Gaunt; sister, Bonnie Bryan and husband, Ed; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of Indiana. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, sisters, Darlene and Barbara, and brothers, Charles, Edward, and Mack. Born in Wells County, Indiana March 12, 1918, Ike grew up in and around Ft. Wayne, Indiana, the fourth of ten children of Edward Lee Gaunt and Faye Davison Gaunt. In his youth, he was an accomplished fisherman and boxer. He was the 1938 Indiana State bantamweight Golden Gloves and AAU boxing champion. In 1940, he married his sweetheart Glendora Nelson, to whom he was married six months short of sixty years. He served in the US Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater from 1943 to 1946. In 1950, the family moved to Albuquerque where Ike was with the Heights Nursery, then worked as a metallurgy specialist for ACF, Dow, and General Electric plants in Albuquerque. Ike never knew a stranger. He loved gardening, hunting, and fishing and was a very accomplished at all of them. He was a gentle and guiding hand for his children and grandchildren and took enormous pride in their accomplishments and daily activities. Cremation has taken place. A service celebrating Ike's life will take place at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 31, 2000 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 9315 Candelaria Rd. NE (west of Eubank), Albuquerque. Hudson -- James Floyd Hudson, 77, of Bokoshe, Oklahoma, died March 24th at The Oaks Healthcare Center in Poteau, Oklahoma after a long illness. Born in Ft. Worth, Texas in May of 1922, he moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico after World War II, where he owned a roofing company for many years. A veteran of World War II, he proudly served his country in the Armed Forces from January 1942 until September 1945. He served in France, Rhineland, Italy, and French Morocco. After leaving New Mexico, he lived in Ohio then Tennessee, where he and Suella ran canoe liveries. Finding an ad in a Tennessee newspaper, he saw property in Bokoshe for sale, and, loving to fish, realized his dream and settled in the small community near the lakes and streams he loved. He and his wife were co-owners of Hudson Corner Store east of Bokoshe for 17 years when bad health forced them to retire in 1994. His parents, William Daris and Gladys Alyeen Morley Hudson, formerly of Ft. Worth, TX; one sister; and one brother, precede him in death. His wife, Suella of Bokoshe; one daughter, Nancy Bruce of Albuquerque; one son, Jerry Hudson; two step-daughters, Charlotte"Charlee" Isaac of Bokoshe, and Susan Aldrich of Bowling Green, KT; four grandchildren and one great grandson survive him. He and his wife, Suella, raised one of the grandchildren, Russell, and later adopted him as their own. Mr. Hudson, knowing the need for body donors for medical science and experimentation, has donated his remains to Oklahoma University Medical Center in the hopes that this gift might benefit others. A memorial service will be held, Sunday, April 2, 2:00 p.m., at the First Assembly of God Church in Bokoshe, Oklahoma. The family has asked that donations be made to the First Assembly of God Children's Program, P.O. Box 98, Bokoshe, Oklahoma 74930 in lieu of flowers. Keller -- Betty Jane Keller, 83, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at Plains Regional Medical Center, Clovis, NM, while residing with her daughter and son-in-law in Portales. She is survived by her sons, Terry Grant and wife, Dot of Littleton, CO, Donald Grant and wife, Mimi of Great Falls, MT and Steven B. Grant and wife, Peggy of Thousand Oaks, CA; daughters, Merriellen Bonem and husband, Judge Bill Bonem of Portales, and Susan Grant of Arlington, VA; 28 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; step-children, Rev. Steve Keller and wife, Sue of Wisconsin Dells, WI, Ray Keller and wife, Carol of San Antonio, TX and Nancy Smith and husband, Doug of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and brother, J. Everette Brown and wife, Amelia of Ft. Pierce, FL. She was preceded in death by her husbands, CWO Harold D. Grant (US Army), and The Rev. Dr. Dwight L. Keller. Mrs. Keller was a member of Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Knight -- David Knight, 73, a resident of Belen, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2000. He was an old time mule skinner and pioneer born 100 years too late. David was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marcella Arlene Knight in 1998; his grandson, David Patrick Knight; his granddaughter, Tracy Knight; and also his four sisters. He is survived by his children, David Clayton Knight of Albuquerque, Micheal Wayne Knight of Los Lunas, Franklin Thomas Knight of Dallas, TX, Samuel Lee Knight of Belen, Mary Marcella Knight of Albuquerque, and Martha Arlene Knight of Farmington; his brother, Buddy Knight; and his two sisters, Dude and Nancy. Kruhm -- Barbara Kruhm passed away Saturday, March 25, 2000, following a brief illness. She was a music and piano teacher for all of her 44 years in Albuquerque, the last 12 of which were on a voluntary basis. In October 1994, Mrs. Kruhm was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth A. Kruhm. She is survived by her son, Burt Kruhm and his wife, Catherine of Littleton, CO; five grandchildren, Karla Wachenheim and husband, Scott of Sugarland, TX, Karen Payton and husband, Allen of Deming, Valerie Post and husband, Clay of Lubbock, TX, Jeff Rohr and wife, Rene of Littleton, CO, and Brandon Kruhm, also of Littleton; as well as three great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Marjorie B. Thompson of Bernalillo, along with many dear friends who will miss her greatly. A Memorial service, officiated by The Reverend Sandra S. Bess, will be held on Friday, March 31, 2000, 10:00 a.m., at Vista Verde Mortuary, 4310 Sara Rd., Rio Rancho. Larue -- Gale E. LaRue, 81, passed away March 25, 2000. He devoted more than 50 continuous years of service with the American Legion. He was a member of Post #13, Chairman of State Children and Youth Counsel, Post #13, Chairman State and Youth, serving 12 years on their Executive Board. He served on the 40 and 8 Voighter. He was a life member of D.A.V., Chapter #3. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elsie Martin LaRue; son, Luther"Ike" LaRue; daughter, Lenora LaRue Nichols; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Violet Eckman; numerous family and friends who loved and will miss him. Martinez -- Margaret R. Martinez, 52, a resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, March 25, 2000. Mrs. Martinez was a loving mother who is survived by her sons, Roger Padilla, Jr., and Tobias Padilla, both of Albuquerque; father, Lawrence Martinez Sr.; brothers, Herman Martinez and Lawrence Martinez Jr.; sisters, Rose Lucero and Laurice Baca; aunt, Lena Ruano, with whom she was very close; numerous nieces and nephews, and Roger Padilla Sr. She was a licensed practical nurse who worked at Presbyterian Hospital and Lovelace Medical Center. Modern -- Robert J. Modern, 87, an Albuquerque resident since 1995, died Monday, March 27, 2000. Mr. Modern is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jehnet Modern; son, Michael Modern; daughter, Wendy Gallagher, all of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Renai Gallagher of Cape Cod, MA and Michelle Hunter and husband, David of Albuquerque; great-granddaughter, Abigail Sadie Hunter of Albuquerque; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Esther and Bert Schnitzler of Albuquerque; cousin, Betty Wartell of Albuquerque; nephews, Robert Schnitzler and David Schnitzler, both of Albuquerque; sister-in-law, Theresa Modern of New York; and special friends and care-givers, Jean Crespin and Ruth Rose, both of Albuquerque. Mr. Modern graduated from New York City College with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1936. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Army. He was a resident of Las Cruces for 40 years prior to moving to Albuquerque and retired as an accountant from White Sands Missile Range. Mr. Modern loved to travel, was a amateur ham radio operator and was an avid philatelist. She resided in Lufkin for the past five years. Megan was a dedicated employee of Pilgrims Pride and a member of Providence Baptist Church. Sanchez Tena -- Roberta Sanchez Tena died Tuesday in Albuquerque at the age of 42. Roberta was a member of the St. Edwin Catholic Church. She is survived by her mother, Onesima C. Sanchez; son, Trinidad Vargas; brothers, Robert Sanchez and wife, Debbie and Albert Sanchez; and two nephews, Robert and Timothy Sanchez. Funeral services for Roberta will be held on Thursday at the St. Edwin Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Torrez -- Mrs. Virginia A. Torrez, 81, a resident of Albuquerque, born in San Antonio, NM, passed away on March 27, 2000. Mrs. Torrez was the beloved mother of six sons, Guadalupe M. Torrez and wife, Susan, Daniel A. Torrez, Robert A. Torrez and wife, Tomasita, Steven A. Torrez, Joseph A. Torrez and Jerome A. Torrez. She is also survived by one brother, Raymond M. Armijo; eight grandchildren, Teresa, Cathy and Ramon, Robert Lee and wife, Shelly, Mark, Jeremiah, Ian, Edward and Renetta; three great-grandchildren, Julio, Keith and Jasmine; Godsons, Randy Hrubienski and Anthony Armijo; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Torrez was a member of the Catholic Church, life member of the Altar Society, Blue Army, and Legion of Mary. Virginia was also a Catechism teacher for many years at Sacred Heart Church.
