Baker -- Jesse Eugene (Gene) Baker, 80, a resident of Albuquerque since 1993, died peacefully on March 16, 2000. He formerly was a 53 year-resident of Elmhurst, Illinois. He was born on December 17, 1919 in Havelock, Nebraska to Mary Emery and Arthur Baker. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eleanor Virginia Baker, their children Robert Baker, Mary Anne Giangola, and husband, Tony, grandchildren, Christopher Norton, Jessica Norton, Tanya Giangola and Troy Giangola. Gene served in the 10th Mountain Division in Italy in WWII. He retired as a Lieutenant from the Elmhurst, Illinois Fire Department after 34 years of service. He was a founder of the Illinois Professional Firefighters Assn. (IPFA) and served as its Executive Director from 1970-1992. He worked tirelessly for development of the fire service in the State of Illinois and to safeguard pension benefits for firefighters and their survivors. He also served as Executive Director of the National Association of the 10th Mountain Division from 1986-1992. He will be remembered most by family and friends for his energy, generosity, and for his devotion to his wife, Eleanor. Cryptside services will be held, Saturday, 10:00 a.m., at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, 7500 Paseo del Norte NE. Pallbearers will be IPFA members and 10th Mountain Div. Veterans. Buchanan -- Elizabeth Buchanan I was born on June 23, 1927 in Monte Vista, Colorado, to Mr. and Mrs. Herman Goehl. The Rio Grande overflowed its banks that day. I grew up on a farm in Center, Colorado with my brother, Joseph and sister, Margaret. I attended Sargent School, St. Scholastica Academy in Canon City, CO; Rosary College in Chicago, IL; and graduated from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. It was there that I met my soulmate, husband, and father of our children, Clay Buchanan. I taught junior high school in California, as well as in Espanola. I was co-owner of an arts and crafts store in the Pojoaque Valley called"Local Color". For 20 years I worked for the Museum of New Mexico Foundation as the buyer for the museum shops in Santa Fe. I loved to travel and had the opportunity to experience the diverse cultures of the world with family and friends. I was most fulfilled by my life with Clay, raising our children, Whitney and Alexis. I am survived by my sister and her husband, Margaret and Milton Trujillo of Pueblo, CO; my brother, Joseph Goehl of Denver, CO; my son, Whitney Buchanan of Albuquerque; my daughter and her husband, Alexis Buchanan and Jim Baldwin of Taos; sons, my niece, Laura and her husband, Bill Woodward of Denver and their sons, George and Harry Woodward; my nephew, Karl Trujillo and his wife, DaLynn of Mt. Crested Butte, CO; my nephew, John Trujillo of Ft. Collins, CO; my nephew, Daniel Trujillo of Denver, CO; my niece and Godchild, Mary Trujillo of Castro, Chile; my special cousin, Art Goehl and his wife, Charlene of Alamosa, CO; and numerous other relatives. I was preceded in death by my husband, Clay; my parents, Herman and Laura Dempsey Goehl; and Alexis Boudreau Goehl. My life was full and I was blessed with wonderful, loving friends and family. Friends may call on Monday, March 20, from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., at the McGee Funeral Home at 1320 Luisa Street, in Santa Fe, with the interment at the National Cemetery immediately following. Cruikshank -- Harold Richard (Dick) Cruikshank was born in Chicago, IL, August 27, 1922, and passed away at home on Tuesday evening, March 14, 2000 after a long illness. Dick is survived by Ruth, his loving wife of 56 years; daughters, Pamela Joy Ulrich and husband, John of San Angelo, TX and Deborah Kay Loinette and husband, Michael of Dallas TX; his sister, Mrs. Norma Williams of Silverdale, WA; his brothers-in-law, Kenneth Hufnagel and his wife, Helen of Denver, CO; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Dick served for a year in the Colorado Civilian Conservation Corps, and was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Philippines. He was a graduate of Denver University, having attended under the GI Bill. He began his career with the Atomic Energy Commission in Los Alamos in 1949, with later assignments in Albuquerque, San Antonio, TX, Amarillo, TX, and Burlington, IA, where he retired. He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, where a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2000. (The church is located at 210 Alvarado Dr. SE). A private interment will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lung Association, 216 Truman NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108 or to Redeemer Lutheran Church. Fields -- Alfred F. Fields, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948 died, Wednesday, March 15, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Lugarda, whom he married on May 13, 1955; daughters, Mary Lou O'Connor and husband, Jim of Kilauea, HI and Victoria Baca and husband, Philip of Longmont, CO; brother, Roy Fields and wife, Beverly of Lampe, MO; and grandchildren, Christina Groesbeek of Denver, CO, Deborah Beal and husband, Daniel of El Dorado Hills, CA, Crystal Ruby and husband, Erik of Highlands Ranch, CO, Nathan L. Baca of San Francisco, CA, great-grandchildren, Christie, Connor, Keely and Kayla; a nephew, Danny Garcia wife, Nellie and family. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Steven P. Baca; granddaughter, Nicole Goesbeek; and his sister, Etta Scraper. He worked for RCA in Indianapolis. Mr. Fields served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1946 in Artillery Communications. He worked for Sandia Labs as a Technical Administrator for Quality Control and retired March 1973. Alfred enjoyed doing preventive maintenance on cars, horseback riding, travel, and reading western novels. Foulk -- Arlene Wingerd Folk, age 93, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2000. She moved to Albuquerque in 1964 from Leavenworth, KS. She was born in Donegal, KS on January 19, 1907. Mrs. Foulk was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Foulk. Survivors include her three children, David Foulk and wife, Anita of Scottsdale, AZ, Delores Alexander and husband, Jerry of Las Vegas, NV, and Shirley Wilburn of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister; three brothers; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Foulk taught school in Kansas from 1931 until 1964 when she came to Albuquerque and continued her teaching at St. Vincent Academy from 1965 to 1967. She was a member of La Mesa Presbyterian Church for 35 years and was also a member of P.E.O. Chapter L. A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2000, 3:00 p.m., at La Mesa Presbyterian Church, 7401 Copper Ave. NE, with Rev. Trey Hammond officiating. Gonzalez -- Angelina L. Gonzalez passed away on March 17, 2000 after a lengthy and courageous battle with diabetes. She was born on June 15, 1927 in Albuquerque and raised in Santa Fe. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Sena and Frances Sena; and by her husband, Jose Leo Gonzalez. Mrs. Gonzalez was a loving mother, grandmother and friend, and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her companion, Federico Escaren; daughters, Frances Ulibarri and companion, Chris Garcia, Joanne Stucker and husband, Derrick, Victoria Bickel and husband, Jim; and sons, Jerry Gallegos and wife, Tomasita and Eloy B. Gallegos and wife, Sandra. She also is survived by grandchildren, Angelina Ulibarri, Keith Garcia, Adrian Ulibarri, Aliza Martinez, Karen Gallegos and Shalyn Gallegos; great-grandchildren, Cody Garcia and Adrinna Ulibarri; and many cousins, aunts and uncles. Leyva -- Fred: The Lord called on Fred and took him on Wednesday, March 15th. He is survived by his sons, Michael and wife, Carolyn Leyva and Mark Leyva; their mother and his former wife, Peggy; grandchildren, Melanie Cooper and Melissa Avritt; great-grandchildren, Rivkah and Mikayla Cooper his mother, Consuelo (Connie) Leyva; his sister, Mary Lou Burke; two brothers, Pete and wife, Mary Lou Leyva and Larry and wife, Gini Leyva; nephews, Steven Christakis, Tim and wife, Margaret Ann Leyva, Chris Leyva, Jason Leyva; great-nephews, Joseph Leyva, Marcus Martinez and Nicklaus Lewis; nieces, Lisa, Kimberly and Melissa Leyva, Stephanie Christakis; great-nieces, Brittaney Kestler, Lydia Gonzales and Andreana Muriel; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Mr. Leyva was preceded in death by his father, Pedro B. Leyva; and sister, Lydia Levya. Fred was born on August 11, 1939. He attended Valley High School, where he was active in football, basketball and baseball, he graduated in 1958. He retired from the City and continued to work at San Felipe Casino and Sherwin Williams. He enjoyed fishing and playing golf. He was a fun loving person, always teasing and laughing. His family and friends will greatly miss him. A Rosary will be recited on Monday evening, 7:30 p.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Maddox -- Alice Marie Maddox, 81, a 30 year Albuquerque resident, died Friday, March 17, 2000. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend who will be remembered for her compassion and hospitality. Manole -- Tom Nick Manole, 75, died Thursday, March 16, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Niki Manole of Albuquerque; daughter, Evangeline Manole Pavlakos and husband, Dr. Bill Pavlakos of Albuquerque; son, Nick Tom Manole and wife, Asimina of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Nectarios Pavlakos, Rose Pavlakos, Thanasi"Tom" Manole, and Niki Manole, all of Albuquerque; sisters, Despo Svouliandopoulos, Vasiliki Vasilopoulous and husband, Aristides, and Kalliopi Papavalsilopoulos, all of Grevena, Greece; brother, Eftimios Manolis of Dracut, MA; brothers-in-law, Chris Daskalos and wife, Milly, Pete Daskalos and wife, Soula, all of Albuquerque; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Olguin -- Joe C. Olguin, 83, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2000 in Albuquerque. He was born July 9, 1916 to Tomas and Juanita Bruno Olguin in Val Verde, NM. Joe was a longtime rancher in the Socorro area. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Maez Olguin. Jenny was a member of the Sacred Heart Cathedral and was very active and served in various position with the RMCH Auxiliary and the United Blood Services Blood Bank. She is survived by her husband, Edward Rollie of Gallup; daughter, Terri Bortot; grandsons, Casey Bortot and Zachary Bortot; and son-in-law, Terry Bortot, all of Show Low, AZ. Sanchez -- Paul G. Sanchez, 51, passed away March 16, 2000. A native New Mexican, he served his country in the Marine Corps. for 14 years and was employed at US West, where he made many friends. He also worked at the Post Office, City of Albuquerque, Isleta Casino, Chava Trucking, Coyote Concrete, Alpha Rentals, and the love of his life was being a sports official, for all sports. He graduated from Lourdes High School in 1966 and was preceded in death by his father, Richard G. Sanchez; sister, Elda Sanchez; and brother, Richard Sanchez. Paul is survived by his wife of 32 years, Maria del Rosario Villegas Sanchez; children, Paul E. Sanchez and Michelle Chavez, David G. Sanchez, Jose L. Sanchez and wife, Perscilla, Sabrina Sanchez and Larry Zamora; grandchildren, Isaiah P. Sanchez, Antonio L. Shaw -- Lillie C. Shaw passed away Thursday, March 16, 2000 at her home in Escondida, NM, where she was born December 20, 1920 to Jose and Teresita Baca Crespin. Mrs. Shaw was a school teacher for over 35 years in the Magdalena and Socorro area and Principal of the Sanchez Elementary School. She was a member of the Socorro Golf Assoc. and an avid bowler. Lillie will be missed by all her family and former students. She is survived by her husband, Jerry of the home; daughter, Sandra Gonzales and husband, Tony of Socorro; brothers, Andy Crespin and wife, Gloria of Albuquerque and Tom Crespin and wife, Pauline of Socorro; sister, Florence Foster and husband, Ray of Socorro; grandchildren, Ryan, Vince and Brandi Gonzales; great-grandchildren, Anthony Maloney and Christian Gonzales. Visitation will be held Monday, March 20, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Steadman-Hall Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m., Monday, March 20, at the Lemitar Catholic Church in Lemitar, NM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 21, at the San Miguel Catholic Church in Socorro with Father Bill Sanchez as Celebrant. Burial will be in the Lemitar Cemetery. Pallbearers are Ryan Gonzales, Vince Gonzales, Eden Foster, Felix Crespin, Paul Crespin, David Wood. Stepleton -- Sandra S. Stepleton, age 60, died unexpectedly of cancer on March 11, 2000. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Stepleton, Bonnie Stepleton and her husband, Arnold Klein and their daughter, Corrina; her son, John Stepleton and his wife, Diana and their son, Miles; brother, Ron Gould and his wife, Judy of Farmington; and nieces and nephews, Jennifer Johnson, Joanna Clark, and Michael Gould. She was a loving mother and doting grandmother. She will be missed by friends and family. There will be a Memorial service March 18, 1:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming NE, with Ed Mabrito, officiating. A reception will follow at her home.
