Braveman -- Rosalie Carol Braveman, 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, died Friday, January 28, 2000. She is survived by her husband, Morris M. Braveman; nephew, Terry Natarus; nieces, Roberta Natarus and Denise Waites and husband, Leonard; and five grandnieces and nephews. Rosalie was a Captain in the U.S. Army, W.A.C. She worked as a dietician during WWII. She was a member of Congregation Albert and Hadassah. Gravesides services will be at Fairview Cemetery, Congregation Albert, 700 Yale SE, Tuesday, February 1, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. with Rabbi Joseph Black officiating. Burks -- James T. Burks, 92, a resident of Albuquerque for the past 15 years, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2000. James was born June 7, 1907, the son of Walter and Lula Bell Jernigan Burks in Decherd, Tennessee. He had been a self-employed cattle buyer/seller for many years before retiring. James had been a member of the Buckners Masonic Lodge in Dallas, TX, he was a Past Worthiful Masters. He is survived by one daughter, Jacqueline Fendley and husband, Walter of Albuquerque; one sister, Naomi Luty of Arlington, TX; two grandchildren, Ronald J. Fendley Sr. and wife, Laura of Garland, TX and Sid Fendley and wife, Janet Norden of Edgewood; three great-grandchildren, Ronald J., Melissa, Alisa; two great-great-grandchildren, Marcus and Kirsten. The Visitation will be Tuesday, February 1, 2000, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., with the service at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd., at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho, with Rev Richard Imprescia officiating, assisted by Mr. Burks niece, Tanya Sulak. Carian -- Peter Lawrence Carian, 36 years old, beloved son, husband and father, passed away in Okinawa, Japan on January 26, 2000. Peter was a 1981 graduate of Del Norte High School and served with the U.S. Marine Corps. He is survived by his wife, Arlene; their children, Frederick, Adrienne and Jacob; and granddaughter, Daisy Monique. He is also survived by his parents, Jacob and Judith Carian of Albuquerque; his special sister, Amanda Wright and husband, Chuck Wright and their daughter, Mary Rose of Ft. Collins, CO; as well as brothers and sisters, Elizabeth Lucero, Heidi Cohenour, Armand Carian, Jacqueline Chappel, Michael Carian, Samuel Carian, Gregory Carian, Christopher Carian, and Andrew Carian, and their spouses, children and grandchildren. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral Services are planned for Tuesday, February 1, 2000, 7:00 p.m. at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 5301 Ponderosa NE, Albuquerque, with Rev. Clark -- Emma Marie Landaiche Clark. On Friday, January 28, 2000, our beloved mother and friend claimed the promise of eternal life and rests now in that place prepared for her by her lifelong companion and friend, her Way, Truth and Life, Jesus Christ. She is survived locally by her son; daughter, Mary Aynn Shoemate and husband, Ebb; granddaughter, Jamie Clark; grandson, Land Clark and wife, Lyla; great-grandchildren, Galland Clark, Taylor Clark and Michael Clark. Other survivors include her dear nephew, A.P. Landaiche and wife, Patti Anne of Baton Rouge, LA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Her unconditionally love and generosity created an extended family of sons, daughters, brothers and sisters throughout the world. Born near Reserve, LA, January 17, 1907, she became a resident of Albuquerque in 1945. She retired from the Budget Department at Kirtland AFB in 1972 after 28 years as a Civil Service employee. Following the death of her husband, Jim Clark in 1974, she became active with St. Joseph Prayer Center and ministered as a Christian Counselor for many years. An accomplished pianist in her youth, and always a strong supporter of the arts, she was the first treasurer of the reorganized Albuquerque Civic Light Opera Association in 1968. Rosary services at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE on Monday, 7:00 p.m., will be led by members of St. Joseph Prayer Center. A Mass celebrating Emma's joyful union with her Lord will be said Tuesday, 9:30 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Pl. SE, with Father James Wheeler S.J., Celebrant. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Serving as pallbearers will be Land Clark, Galland Clark, Peter Frenzel, Dan Mueller, Bo Baca and Joe Shoemate. Counterman -- Frances Lee Counterman, 90, a resident of Rio Rancho, went to be with the Lord on January 26, 2000. She was born in 1909 in Middletown, Kansas. Frances married Roy Counterman in Fredonia, Kansas in 1934, and lived in Independence, KS until moving to Salida, CO in 1956. Her husband, Roy, preceded her in death in 1960. In Salida, Frances worked at Salida Hospital and was very active in St. Joseph's Catholic Parish and participated in several ecumenical groups. Following three years living near relatives in Fredonia, Frances moved to Rio Rancho in 1994 and soon became involved in St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Frances will be greatly missed by her two daughters, Betty Drobnick and her husband, Will of Rio Rancho and Patti Wright and her husband, Jim of Hutchinson, KS. Frances took pride in her four granddaughters and their families, Deborah and Neil Farnholtz, and sons, Jordan and Jaxson of Rio Rancho, Rebecca and David Baker, and daughters, Antonia and Jessen of Craig, CO, Nathania and Jim Hinkle, and son, Tyler of Pensacola, FL, and Sarah and Brian Lewis of Denver, CO. Frances was also a caring step-grandmother of John, Karen, Kevin, Michelle and Kenneth Wright. Glendoria Brindle and Glossie Short of Fredonia, KS are her surviving sisters. The visitation will take place today, Sunday, January 30, 2000, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with the Rosary being prayed and memories shared at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd., at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on Monday, January 31, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. Frances will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in Salida, CO on Thursday following a Memorial Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Eastwood -- Robert E."Bob" Eastwood, 73, of Ft. Sumner, NM, was born October 1, 1926 in Tolar, NM to the home of Herman G."Pug" and Gladys (Williams) Eastwood. He was reared at Tolar and attended schools in Taiban and Fort Sumner where he graduated in 1944. He later attended Eastern New Mexico University. He married Nora Shoemaker on June 12, 1945 in Fort Sumner. Bob served in the U.S. Army fro 1944 to 1946. His tour of duty took him to the Philippines, and north Japan. Following his discharge, Bob and his brother, Johnny Eastwood, formed Eastwood Construction Company at Taiban, NM, where they operated a gravel pit that was worked by his father and grandfather. Bob and Nora owned and operated Gambles Hardware store in Fort Sumner for many years. He retired from the business in 1983, but continued to operate his backhoe and dump truck business with his son, Johnny. Bob was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner. He served three terms on the Fort Sumner Village Council. Bob served ten years on the Board of Eastern New Mexico Natural Gas Company and was a longtime board member of the Fort Sumner Cemetery Association. Bob was honored as Grand Marshal of the Old Fort Days Parade in 1999. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Dallas Park in Fort Sumner. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Billy Eastwood; a sister, Kathleen Eastwood; and his wife, Nora Mae Eastwood, who died August 25, 1996. Survivors include a daughter, Janet Eastwood of Tucumcari, NM; a son, Johnny Eastwood of Fort Sumner; four grandchildren, Nicki Balzano, Katie Eastwood, Megan Eastwood and Kevin Balzano; and a brother, Johnny Eastwood of Clovis. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 1, 2000 from the First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner with Rev. Monty Leavell officiating. Burial will follow in the Eastwood family plot in Fort Sumner Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday and Monday, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner. Enns -- Karl C. Enns, 94, born in Inman, Kansas on October 9, 1905 to Dick and Millicent Enns, died Wednesday, January 26, 2000. Mr. Enns moved to Albuquerque in 1950. He is survived by his wife, Nettie Darrah whom he married on June 20, 1930; his son, Jack D. Enns and wife, Katherine of Albuquerque; daughter, Janet E. Alexander and husband, Dick of Holbrook, AZ; six grandchildren, Karl David Enns, Beth Enns, Joyce Selfridge, all of Albuquerque, Ted Alexander of Phoenix, Douglas Alexander of Tempe, AZ and Scott Alexander of Phoenix, AZ; and five great-grandchildren, Johannah Alexander of Tempe, AZ, Charlotte Selfridge, Naomi Selfridge, Julie Selfridge and Dustin Enns, all of Albuquerque. Mr. Enns was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Margaret Klassen and Luty Lee White. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Karl was a salesman. Mr. Enns worked at Chief Pontiac, and Quality Pontiac and was also a broker in the real estate business, until he retired in 1969. He loved sports and participated in them in the Inman schools and at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. Mr. Enns was an avid Lobo fan for 50 years. Fischer -- Stella Fischer passed away Friday, January 28, 2000, after a brief illness. She was born in Albuquerque to the late Vincent and Theresa Camino. Bud Fischer, her husband of 38 years; brothers, Ralph and Al Cimino; sister, Tina Caponera; and son-in-law, Charles D. Cameron preceded her in death. Daughters, Virginia Cameron, Theresa Kortum and son-in-law, Marvin Kortum; brothers, Vincent Cimino and his wife, Martha, Gerald Cimino and his wife, Erla; brother-in-law, Richard Caponera; grandchildren, Bruce, Char, Kathy and Chuck Cameron; her beloved great-granddaughter, Chelsea Cameron; as well as many loving nieces and nephews survive her. Harban -- Robert (Bob) C. Harban, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2000. He was born on March 12, 1913 in Chicago, IL of Hammond Harban and Edith Duguid Harban. He graduated from NM Tech in Socorro in 1942 and worked as a plant superintendent with the American Smelting & Refining Co. until his retirement in 1975. His wife, Ruth (Bursum Paxton) Harban; and a brother, Arthur Harban, preceded him in death. He is survived by his step-son, David O. Paxton and wife, Nancy of Albuquerque; one brother, John Harban and wife, Vivian of Orland Park, IL; step-grandchildren, Deborah C. Antonucci, Mark E. Paxton and Matthew R. Herron -- Felix Herron passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2000 at the age of 44. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gregoria Herron. He is survived by his father, Filiberto Herron; brothers, Benny, Robert, Marvin, Lloyd, Johnny, Leo, James and wife, Pefie; sisters, Betty Mackall, Mary, Della, Theresa and husband, Charlie Frequez. Hope -- Betty Tuck Hope, 81, went to be with the Lord January 27, 2000. She was born in Sweet Springs, MO and retired from the L.A. County Traffic Court. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Hope and is survived by her daughter, Joyce Olson Anwyl and husband, Robert; two granddaughters, Kimberly Olson and Donn, Laila Austin and husband, Billy; three great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Christopher, and Ethem. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the loving care given by the staff of Manor Care Camino Vista Nursing Center. Hopkins -- Angela J. Hopkins, age 84, a resident of Fort Ben, TX, died on Thursday, January 27, 2000. Kudo -- With his family at his side, Dr. Albert M."Bert" Kudo peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 26, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Marge Kudo of the family home; daughter, Alyssa K. Nunez and husband, David and their daughter, Casia and second child expected in August, daughter, Shana L. Buckley and husband, Brian and their daughter, Mikayla; sister, Mae Arima of Seattle, WA; brothers, George Akira Kudo and wife, Mary of Washington and Minoru Kudo and wife, Judy of Toronto, Canada. Dr. Kudo is also survived by his thousands of students whom he dearly loved and who remember him for his kindness, sense of humor and love for life. Dr. Kudo received a Bachelor's of applied Science degree with first class honors from the University of Toronto in 1960. He received a Masters of Science degree in geology from McMaster University in 1962 and a PhD degree in Earth Sciences from the University of California in 1967. Dr. Kudo was a beloved professor in the University of New Mexico's Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences for 33 years. With his unique, humor-filled teaching method, Bert introduced thousands of UNM undergraduates to geology in his introductory course. His research of volcanoes and igneous rocks took him all over the world and he authored over 100 articles and abstracts. Bert was a member of the Geological Society of American, the American Geophysical Union, and the Geochemical Society. He was also a member of the Advisory Council for the Northwest Regional Science Fair and served as Master Judge Chair. Upon Dr. Kudo's retirement in the fall of 1999, Albuquerque's mayor, Jim Baca, proclaimed Friday, December 3, 1999, as professor Albert M. Kudo Day. He was an avid runner, active in many sports, and loved the outdoors. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, February 1, 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Chapel, 4001 Osuna NE, with Pastor Marsh Shamburger officiating. Leischner -- Ella Christine Winter Leischner, a resident of Albuquerque since 1975, died Thursday, January 27, 2000. She was the beloved mother of her daughter, Judy Knott of Albuquerque; granddaughter-in-law, Sharon Knott of Tijeras; brother, Ben Winter and wife, Elsie of Altamont, IL; and two sisters, Alma Neumann of Altamont, IL and Vera Maki of De Kalk, IL and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Leischner was married December 30, 1923 to Rev. Paul E. Leischner, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, James P. Knott. Mrs. Leischner was a member of Faith in Christ Lutheran Church. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse for over 25 years. Mrs. Leischner will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Services will be held Monday, 10:30 a.m., at Faith in Christ Lutheran Church, Chelwood and Indian School NE, with Pastor Roger Wohletz officiating. Lucero -- Cora M. Lucero, 84, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on January 27, 2000. She is survived by her daughters, Alice Parras and husband, Louie, Theresa Gonzales and fiance, Robert Montano; her son, Ray Lucero; step-daughter, Lucy Martinez. Also surviving are two sisters, Margaret and Sadie Romero and husband, Toby; seven grandchildren, Lawrence and wife, Gloria, Jimmy, Johnny, Mark, Joseph; great-grandchildren Aaron, Michael, Patricia and husband, Freddie, Nadine and husband, Dominic, and Valerie; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Cora was known as Little Grandma,"Little package of love". She loved her Spanish heritage and loved posing for pictures, she always looked for the good in all people and was a life member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Catholic Church. Visitation will be today, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Alameda Chapel. A Rosary will be recited this evening, 7:00 p.m., at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning at 10:00 a.m., also at the church. Pallbearers will be Lawrence Parras, Aaron Gonzales, Joseph Lucero, Kirk Montano, Dominic Garcia and Freddie Maestas. Honorary pallbearer will be Ray Lucero. Owens -- Sylvia L. Owens passed away January 28, 2000 after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband, Phillip R. Owens of Albuquerque; daughters, Susan Lovegrove-Graziano of Milan, Italy, Sara C. Lovegrove of Dallas, TX; and son, Robert E. Lovegrove of Missoula, MT; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; her twin brother, Gregory N. Tyack of Reston, VA; and sister, Antha T. Overbury of Tijeras; several nieces and nephews. Sylvia was born in Cheshire, Connecticut, January 30, 1915 and graduated from Southern Connecticut State University. She was active in several organizations, including the Red Cross, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Auxiliary of the National Society of Professional Engineers. She served as chairman of the local Auxiliary and as national chairman of the NSPE Auxiliary. She will be remembered for her outgoing and enthusiastic personality, and for her love of nature, flowers and music. Services will take place on Tuesday, February 1, 2000, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with the Reverend Milton Propp, former Pastor of the Asbury United Methodist Church, officiating. Pagni -- Florence M. Pagni, 92, a resident of Cedar Crest, died Friday, January 28, 2000. Mrs. Pagni is survived by her daughters, Billie Cooper of Albuquerque and Donna Knepper and husband, Jerry of Cedar Crest; grandchildren, Wendy Cooper-Snow, Terry Cooper and wife, Regina, Randy Cooper and wife, Linda, Jordan and Chelsea Knepper; great grandchildren, Megan and Kasey Snow, Zoe and Zachary Cooper, Jennifer and Melissa Cooper; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, William Pagni in 1984. Mrs. Pagni was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be remembered for her hospitality and charitable nature. Perea -- Mr. Arthur (Artie) M. Perea, 47, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on January 27, 2000. Artie is survived by his beloved mother, Ramona Perea; one sister, Mary Martinez and husband, Steve; three brothers, Victor Perea and wife, Gloria, Robert Perea and Paul Perea; nieces and nephews, Steve Martinez and wife, Melanie, Thomas Martinez and wife, Christina, Jennifer Garcia-Salas and husband, Giovanni, Mark Perea and wife, Andrea, Denise Salguero and husband, Jessie, Audrey Candelaria and husband, Rodney, Robyn Moreno and husband, Jaime and Cassandra Perea; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Artie was a member of the Catholic Church, veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam era. Raines -- G. Allen Raines, age 75, a resident of Albuquerque, died on Friday, January 28, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Joyce H. Raines of Albuquerque; daughter, Bonnie A. Martin and husband, Gregg of Barnesville, GA; son, Dale A. Raines and wife, Teresa of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; daughter, Rhonda Raines-Jeffery and husband, Brian of Lyndhurst, OH; grandchildren, Reed E. Martin and Samantha A. Jeffery; sister, Reba Evans of Sedalia, MO; Ann Harvey Raines, former wife of 27 years and mother of his two oldest children, Kevin Dudak, 2nd Lt. Eric Dudak, and Kerri Jan Congdon, whom Mr. Raines considered as grandchildren; also nieces, nephews and cousins. He served as a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force during WWII and Korean Conflict, retiring in July, 1984 as Lt. Col. from the Air Force Reserves. He was associated with Beech Aircraft in several different capacities. Later, he worked at FBOs throughout the country, retiring as Sales Manager in 1992 from Cutter Aviation. He remained active in the Quiet Birdmen (QBS) and the Los Lunas Escadrille, which met weekly. He enjoyed outdoor activities and left his footprints across the United States. Services will be held Monday, January 31, 2000, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Chaplain Lemuel Boyles officiating. Interment will take place at College Park Cemetery, College Park, GA. Redbird -- Lytha Ann Redbird, born May 6, 1938, passed away in her home on January 25, 2000, after a long illness. Lytha is survived by her brother, George Redbird; son, Lyle Redbird and his girlfriend, Toni Wood, who was Lytha's dear friend and caregiver. Lytha was preceded in death by her daughter, Andrea Redbird. Lytha was a longtime resident of Albuquerque and will be greatly missed. Roberts -- Thomas Jason Roberts, 76, retired, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2000 in Fort Worth, TX. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 2, 2000 at the Old Chapel in Fort Myer, VA. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers, donate to the National Prisoner of War Museum. Donations in his memory may be made to Andersonville Trust, Rt. 1, Box 800, Andersonville, GA 31711. Please request an acknowledgment to the family. Thomas Jason Roberts was a husband, father and soldier. He died as he lived, with courage, faith and love. He was born to James Carl Roberts and Mary Barnes Roberts on September 6, 1923 in Price, NC. Thomas was raised in a loving family with his brothers, Leonard Roberts, Cabel Roberts, James Carl Roberts Jr.; and sisters, Mary Alice Roberts and Sally Rebecca Roberts, who died at a young age. Thomas joined the Army in 1940 and was assigned to the 168th Anti-Tank Co. 34th Division at the start of World War II. He was captured by the German Army on February 17, 1943 in the Battle of Kasserine Pass. Thomas was imprisoned in several camps in Germany. During his distinguished career, he served in England, Africa, Italy and Germany, and was member of the Old Guard at Ft. Myer, VA. Thomas retired from the Army in 1965 as a Major. After the Army, Thomas joined the Central Intelligence Agency and served in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. Thomas married Joan Elizabeth Palmer Roberts on September 19, 1948. They have two daughters, Julia C. Roberts and Linda R. Kurland. Thomas reserved a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, Elizabeth Kurland, Nathan Kurland, Jason Wall, Kelly Coppin and Amy Coppin; as well as his sons-in-law, Mark Kurland and Chris Coppin.

Van Der Geest -- Mr. Jacob J. Van Der Geest, a many year resident of Belen, died January 28, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alida Van Tol Van Der Geest of the home. He is also survived by children, Jackie Hix, Jake Van Der Geest, Connie Harnick, Joanne Van Der Geest, John Van Der Geest, Jim Van Der Geest, Judy Bottlinger and their spouses. Additional survivors include 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous family members in Holland. Mr. Van Der Geest was born in Holland in 1913. He and his family immigrated to New Mexico in 1956 and have lived in Belen since 1958. Weinstein -- Yale Weinstein, 85, died on Friday afternoon, January 28, 2000. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine. He is survived by his daughters, Jane Rosenfeld and husband, Jerry, Barbara Weinstein and Marjory W. Sturm and husband, Roy. Yale took great pride and comfort every day in his four grandchildren, Joshua Rosenfeld, Avram Rosenfeld, Sarah Sturm and Hannah Sturm. Yale was born in St. Paul, MN in 1915 and is survived by his sister, Bernice Upin and husband, Sam and Lorraine's siblings, Barney Horowitz, Ann Miller and Rossa Dannovsky. He graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Forestry in 1934. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946. Yale came to New Mexico in 1937 to work for the New Mexico Timber Company. In 1958, his association with Duke City Lumber Company began and continued through and beyond his retirement in 1982. Mr. Weinstein was involved in all aspects of the Albuquerque Jewish Community. He was a member of Congregation Albert since 1937 and recently a member of the B'nai Israel Congregation. Over the years, he was honored and recognized by both his professional and religious communities. Mr. Weinstein had numerous connections with others, including neighbors, colleagues, relatives and friends. His friendships over the years served to enrich his life and he will be remembered and missed by many. Services commemorating Yale's life will be held Monday, 12:00 noon, at Congregation Albert, 3800 Louisiana NE, with Rabbi Joseph R. Black and Cantor Jacqueline Shuchat-Marx officiating. Interment will follow at Congregation Albert Cemetery at Fairview Memorial Park, 700 Yale SE. A Memorial service at the home will follow interment.
