Anaya -- John F."Wimpy" Anaya, 67, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, January 6, 3000. He is missed by his wife, Joan of the family home; son, Jared; mother, Ramona; sisters, Carmen Garcia, Vicky Davis, Betty Anaya, and Gloria Salas, all of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Anaya retired from the NM Air National Guard/USAF, where he served for 40 years. Following his retirement, he was a substitute teacher for the Albuquerque Public Schools; a job he thoroughly enjoyed. Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 8, 2000, 10:00 a.m., at St. Edwin Catholic Church, 2105 Barcelona Rd. SW. Private interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Anderson -- Carl W. Anderson (Andy), age 55, of Los Chavez, NM, passed away peacefully at Presbyterian Hospital on January 5, 2000, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Anderson is survived by his beloved wife, Loree; mother, Bernice Anderson; son, Aaron Anderson and wife, Susan of Green Valley, CA; daughter, Loryn Lagoy of Winnetka, CA, Aaron Gonzales and wife, Kathryn of Arlington, TX and Adan Gonzales of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Kristyn and Taylor Lagoy. Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his father, the late Alvar B. Anderson. Andy retired from US West in 1999 after 33 years. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his intelligence, creativity, commitment and thirst for knowledge. He loved life, his family, his home, '55 Chevys, and his very special friends. Balicki -- Frederic W. Balicki, 61, of MacArthur Drive, a nuclear physicist, died Sunday at Kent County Memorial Hospital. He was the former husband of Charlotte A. Ferris of Warwick, RI. Born in Chicopee Falls, Mass., a son of the late Frederick J. and Eileen D. (Weldon) Balicki, he lived in Warwick for two years, previously living in Tijeras for 12 years, and in Washington, DC for 20 years. Mr. Balicki was a nuclear physicist for Dasiac Division of ITT Systems in Colorado Springs, CO in their New Mexico office. He had been employed for 20 years by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency of the Department of Defense in Washington, DC. He served in the Army at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, TX and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Lemar State College, now the University of Texas at Beaumont, and his Master's degree in Science from American University in Washington, DC. He was a member of the Nuclear Atomic Weapons Society at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico, the National Atomic Museum of Albuquerque, and the IEEE. Besides his former wife, he leaves a daughter, Heather D. Balicki of Warwick, RI; a brother, Mark Balicki of Boston; and two sisters, Sheila Simpson of Ludlow, Mass. and Linda Bartholomew of Baltimore, MD. The funeral and burial will be private.

Brown -- Audie William Brown, 90, a resident of Albuquerque, went to be with the Lord on January 4, 2000. He was born on October 8, 1909 in Elmore City,, OK to Arthur William and Ollie Mae (Burton) Brown. After graduating from Pernell High School in 1928 he moved to Ada, OK to attend East Central State College where he earned Bachelor and Master degrees. He moved to New Mexico in 1965. Mr. Brown was a teacher and school administrator for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, retiring in 1973. He was a devout Christian and member of the Bosque Farms Church of Christ. For many years, he served as a Sunday School teacher and Deacon of the Southwest Church of Christ in Ada, OK and an Elder of the Gallup Church of Christ in Gallup, NM. A kind and devoted husband and father, he was a tower of strength to his family. Mr. Brown is survived by a son, Wayne Brown and wife, Sue; daughter, Carolyn Brown, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Aaron and Hillary Brown, and Trent Burton and wife, Karin, all of Albuquerque, Aimee Brown of Los Angeles, CA; brothers, Earnie Brown and wife, Verda and Darvis Brown and wife, Ida Mae, all of Moore, OK; a niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Hassell Priscilla Brown and a granddaughter, Heather Brown. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 8, 2000 in the Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Roger Holm will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Byer -- Frederick J. Byer, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, passed away in his home on Wednesday, January 5, 2000 after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Connie R. Byer; sons, Kris E. Byer and Frederick J. Byer Jr., all of Los Lunas; and daughters, Tanya Largent and Sanya Milner of Clovis, NM. He is also survived by his mother, Fern L. Buckley of Albuquerque; seven granddaughters; six grandsons; two brothers, Randall D. and Clifford M. Byer; four sisters, Debbie Richardson, Lisa Martinez, Pearl Martinez, all of Albuquerque, Marilyn Fitton of Australia; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and many friends. Fred served his country in the United States Army in 1965 through 1968. He served during the Vietnam Conflict. He worked for many years as a Journeyman Plumber. In his spare time he became an avid Balloonist and Pilot. Fred flew his first AIBF in 1990. He also flew the Farmington Invitational, Colorado Springs Balloon Classic, and many local Rallies. He was also an avid bowler and golfer. He will be missed by all. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2000, 11:00 a.m., at Shepherd of the Valley, 1801 Montano Rd., Albuquerque, NM, with Pastor Carl Boaz officiating. Coggins -- John Dillard"JD" Coggins Jr. passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2000, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Albuquerque. He was a graduate of New Mexico Military Institute and the University of New Mexico. He received his Masters degree from Northwestern University. He served as an officer in the United States Army in Korea. John was active in the agribusiness industry serving as Vice President of the Arizona Colorado Land and Cattle Company and President and CEO of Western Farm Management. He was with the Valley National Bank of Arizona for 15 years, where he served as Senior Vice President. He also served as Executive Vice President of State National Bank in El Paso. John and his wife, Zoe Ann retired to Rio Rancho in 1997. He is survived by his wife, Zoe Ann Coggins; three children, Mark, Lynnette and John; and six grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday, 2:00 p.m., at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 601 Montano Rd. NW, with Father Walter Smith officiating. Eriksen -- Dorothy Carmichael Eriksen, 85, an Albuquerque resident since 1952, passed away January 5, 2000. Dorothy was born to Charley and Eula Shay on November 25, 1914, in Leeds, Missouri. She attended business college in Kansas City, Missouri and married Kenneth Carmichael in 1940. Following WWII the family moved to"God's Country" near Grand Lake, Colorado. Albuquerque became home in 1952 and both Dorothy and Ken worked for Sandia Labs. Subsequently, Dorothy worked for several local companies, including Paxton Lumber. Her interests included bowling and enjoying time at her cabin on the Chama River below Abiquiu Dam. In 1970, Dorothy was widowed, but later married Norm Eriksen, who also shared many of her interests until his death in 1992. Dorothy had been in poor health in recent years, and the family thanks all who have been kind and helpful, especially those at Lovelace Medical Center and the staff and residents of Vista del Rio Retirement Community. Survivors include daughters, Barbara J. Reed and husband, Bob of Riggins, ID and Sharon L. Copeland and husband, Shelby of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren, Glen Copeland and wife, Miriam of Albuquerque, Kenneth Copeland and wife, Catherine of Las Vegas, NV, Craig Schmuck of Kremmling, CO, Dee Gladding and husband, Chris of Sparks, NV, Jenny Schliep and husband, Richard, Renee Brossart and husband, Jim, and Kirk Kelly, all of Grand Lake, CO. Dorothy also had 13 great-grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew. She was predeceased by one nephew, Eric Schmuck. Cremation has taken place. Kettles -- Richard A. Kettles, born in Dell, Arkansas, December 2, 1920, one of nine children, died in Albuquerque, January 4, 2000. Kolling -- Esther June Shaw Kolling, of Socorro and former resident of Winfield, KS, died Wednesday, January 5, 2000, at Socorro General Hospital. Esther was born November 19, 1925 in Wichita, KS to David Harvey and Bernice Ruth Welch Shaw. She was educated in Wichita Public Schools and graduated in 1947 from Friends University with her Bachelors degree. In 1970, she earned her Masters in Art Education from the University of Colorado. In 1948, she married Orland William Kolling at University Friends Church in Wichita, KS. During the first years of marriage, Esther worked as a medical technologist in St. Louis. After earning her art degree, Esther taught classes through the Wichita Weaving Guild in the Winfield Community and at Southwestern College. She showed award-winning work at Midwest Weavers Conference, Kansas Designer Craftsmen, War Eagle Arts and Crafts Fair. A third-generation Quaker, the Religious Society of Friends continued to be an important spiritual foundation throughout Esther's life. She sang in the choir at the University Friends Church in Wichita and when she relocated to St. Louis, both she and Orland became active members of the St. Louis Monthly Meeting. Upon moving to Winfield, KS in 1959, they retained their ties with St. Louis Friends, as non-resident members. They moved to Socorro in 1989 and Esther became active in her Quaker community. In Socorro, she regularly sang in performances of the Las Cantatas. Her strong, clear voice will be missed. She was preceded in death by Orland, her husband of 43 years. She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Buckley and Deborah Richards of Albuquerque and Annette Weaver of Columbia, MO; grandchildren, Manessa and Clayton Weaver; and loyal friend, Milton Kashner. Quaker Memorial services will be under the care of Socorro Friends Worship Group on Sunday, January 23, 10:00 a.m., at the New Mexico Tech Library (Room 212) in Socorro. Maixner -- Celestine Maixner, 73, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 28 years, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2000. Celestine was born April 6, 1926, the daughter of Lorence and Mary Kantor Maixner in Bee, Nebraska. She had worked as a nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Nebraska and in New Mexico for a total of 45 years before retiring. Celestine is survived by three sisters, Frances Jeske of Rio Rancho, Marie Kelley of Mountain Home, AR, Willamina Savage of Warsau, IN; two brothers, Joe Maixner and wife, Eldine of Ft. Collins, CO and Roman Lee Maixner of Milwaukee, WI. The visitation will be on Friday, January 7, 2000, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd., at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho, with the Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated on Saturday, January 8, 2000, 10:30 a.m., at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Polnaszek -- Margaret & JohnIN MEMORIAMWednesday, January 5 marked what would have been our dear wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Margaret Polnaszek's 80th birthday. She went home to be with our Lord in April of 1998 and we miss her very much. We wish to not only honor her memory, but also that of one of her beloved sons, John, who, after a courageous battle with cancer, died on December 22, 1999. As our family and friends mourn this recent loss, we are reminded of the very special relationship John and Margaret shared. Despite our sorrow, we rejoice in what must have been a joyous reunion in heaven. John is survived by his daughter, Kimberley Wainscott, her husband, Larry, John's two grandchildren, Jason and Kayla; his loving companion, Ruth Polnaszek; his father, Daniel Polnaszek; his older brother, Robert Polnaszek and his wife, Paula; his twin brother, Bill Polnaszek and his wife, Nancy. He is also survived by his nieces, Ann Hartz and her husband, Carl; Debbie McCabe, her husband, Kevin, and their three children, Kevin, Patrick and Caitlin; Jennifer Johnson, her husband, Eric, and their daughter, Dorothy; his nephews include, Ronald Polnaszek and his wife, Cheryl; Jimmy Polnaszek and his daughter, Natasha; and David Eric Odams. John spent his entire career in the electrical trade. Twenty years ago he moved to the Phoenix, Arizona area, where he loved the desert and truly enjoyed riding his Harley and spending time with his friends in two different chapters of the Harley Owners Group. John and Margaret left many friends and loved ones behind, and have surely left a void in all our hearts.

Smith -- Elmer Smith, born July 17, 1929, passed away January 6, 2000, after a long illness. He was born and raised in Kentucky, but had been a resident of New Mexico since the late 1960's and retired from the Air Force in 1971. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lula and father, Edward Smith. He is survived by his wife, Selina; son, Russell Smith of Colorado, Phillip Hoehne of Vaughn; daughters, Kimberlee Turpin of Albuquerque, Dolores Wood of Rio Rancho, Yolanda Donalson of Rio Rancho, and Nancy Flores of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Kevin Smith, Ashley Smith, Amber Turpin, Megan Wood, Ashley Wood, William Waters, Jonathan Flores, Jacqueline Flores, and Rachel Hoehne; great-grandchildren, Joshuah Flores, Jasmin Flores, and Darryn Flores; sister, Irene Ball; and brother, Gene Smith, both of Florida; daughter-in-law, Carmen Smith and sons-in-law, Dan Donalson, Jake Flores and Matthew Wood; and also his many friends, sisters, and brothers from the Church of Christ. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2000 at the Church of Christ, 1006 22nd St. SE, Rio Rancho, NM. Smith -- Kenneth D. Smith, 55 years old, died January 6, 2000. Born August 27, 1944 in Stephensville, TX to A. L. and Imogene Smith. He moved to Albuquerque in 1953 with his parents. He married Pat on September 17, 1962. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Powers Construction. As a teenager he drove a produce truck & throughout his life worked for his parents in the family businesses: Smith's Produce and Smith's Trees. He helped in the building of Albuquerque Raceway and raced cars there in several divisions for many years. Later he opened his own Smith's Produce & Smith's Trees with his wife Pat. After the death of his father he carried on the family ranch and with his mother continued running Duke City Raceway. Kenneth is survived by his mother, Imogene; wife of 37 years, Pat; six children, Donna Jones and husband, Duane of Aztec, NM, Kenny Smith and wife, Rose of Los Lunas, NM, Brenda Prochnow and husband, Joe of Ottawa, KS, Barbara Larkin and husband, Joe Jr. of Albuquerque, Patsy Moore and husband, Steve of Ottawa, KS, and Angela Smith of the family home; 13 grandchildren, Dean, Deanne, Daniel, Matt, Rosanna, Joseph, Josh, Barbara, Mandy, Jenny, Michael, Mitchell and Stephanie. Wade -- Donald B. Wade, 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 1945, died Wednesday, January 5, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Adelina Wade; sons, Robert L. Wade and wife, Vicky and Richard C. Wade and partner, Martin Reiter; grandson, Robert L. Wade II; granddaughter, Selina M. Wade; great-grandson, Kiefer Glenn Wade, all of Albuquerque; sister, Edithadele Jensen of Florida; nieces, Gerrie Birk and husband, Donald, Vanessa Wilke and husband, Mike, Phyllis Gruszka and husband, Frank; nephews, Wade Jensen and wife, Susan and Andre Panebouef; brother-in-law and special buddy, Dan Panebouef; brother-in-law, Armando Panebouef and wife, Connie; and many loving friends and family. Don was preceded in death by his sons, Donald L. Wade and Glenn E. Wade y Panebouef. He was born in Gary, Indiana. Don came to New Mexico in 1945 while serving in the U.S. Army and retired from the military after 11 years. He was stationed in Los Alamos with the Manhattan Engineers and then transferred to Sandia Base. Don then worked as a civilian at the Sandia Labs until retirement. He was a friend to everyone he met. Don loved to tell stories of his long and varied life. He will be greatly missed by all his many friends and family. Services will be held Saturday, 1:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Father Paul Baca officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Pallbearers will be Robert L. Wade, Robert L. Wade II, Richard Wade, Martin Reiter, Dan Panebouef and Ron Panebouef. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.
