Brown -- Charles Hector Brown died peacefully at his home in Magdalena, NM, October 28, 1999. He was born November 12, 1922 in Alamo, NM to Charles and Bennie Brown. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Roger Kelly in May of this year. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; son, Clark Brown; and daughter, Elizabeth Kelly of Magdalena; daughters, Nancy Cortner and husband, Mark of Hagerman, NM, Marguerite Miller and husband, Howard of Milan, NM; sisters, Leota Frizzel of Albuquerque, Doris Yacuk of Thayer, ID, Ruby Brown of Santa Rosa, NM; also four grandchildren. Mr. Brown served in the Army during WWII and was a member of the Magdalena Lodge, F&AM. He was a salesman for the Charles Ilfield Co. and owned the Eagle Wholesale Co. in Magdalena. Dawkins -- Edward Donald Dawkins, 67, a resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, October 28, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Geneva Dawkins; son, Edward D. Dawkins II and wife, Beth of Glendale, AZ; grandson, Philip Dawkins of Chicago, IL; brothers, M.D. Dawkins and wife, Ozell of San Antonio, TX and F.M. Hensley and wife, Mary Lou of Quincey, IL; sister, Katherine Hensley Meade of Ozark, AR; seven nephews; one niece; and one great-nephew. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tish Dawkins. Mr. Dawkins was retired from the U.S. Marine Corps, serving 1949-1969. He saw combat in both the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War and was awarded many medals for his service. After military retirement, Mr. Dawkins served as a volunteer for the New Mexico Civil Air Patrol. He also retired from the Social Security Administration after 21 years. Mr. Dawkins had been an active member of Central United Methodist Church since 1971. This loving husband and father was an honorable gentleman of uncommon value. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Saturday, 3:00 p.m., at Central United Methodist Church, 1615 Copper NE, with Dr. Charles Crutchfield officiating. Doak -- Rheba M. Doak, 88, of Kokomo, Indiana, died at 9:14 p.m. on Thursday, October 28, 1999, at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo, Indiana. She was born August 6, 1911 in Sims, Indiana, the daughter of Earl and Ida McLain Jarvis. She was a homemaker. She was married to John A. Doak, April 5, 1930 and he preceded her in death, July 7, 1984. She was a member of the Courtland Ave. Friends Church and the United Society of Friends Women. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Nancy Doak of Albuquerque, and Stanley and Kim Doak of Converse, IN; 11 grandchildren, William Doak, Jon Doak, Dinora Doak, Tom Doak, Julia Emery, Bradley Doak, Travis Doak, Amy Gardner, Seth Gardner, Alana Gardner, and Kevin Smith; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Helen Bond, and Ramon and James Slaughter; sister-in-law, Norma Jarvis; brother-in-law, Jim Bevens; and 12 great-grandchildren. O'neal -- Michael L. O'Neal, born 9/3/39, Oakland, Oklahoma, died 10/27/99, after a two year struggle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy; son, Shawn of Cottonport, LA; sister, Kay Simmerly and husband, Dwayne of Ponce City, OK; brother-in-law, Jim Knauer and wife, Peggy of Vancouver, BC; three nieces, Jennifer Leigh and husband, Bryce, Lauren Clegg and husband, Randy of British Columbia, Joy Hicks of Oklahoma; nephews, Jeff Knauer and wife, Jane, and Bruce Knauer of British Columbia; great-nephew, Karson Leigh; and great-niece, Jessica Clegg. He was a Senior Technologist in the Nucleonic Devices Department at Sandia Labs and employed by Sandia for 40 1/2 years. He graduated from Highland High School; attended UNM and received a Technical degree from Western Electronics School. He was a member of Rio Grande Kennel Club, Welsh Terrier Club of America and Irish Terrier Club of America. He loved New Mexico, particularly the Wilderness, where he hunted upland game with his friends. The family wishes to express their profound gratitude to Presbyterian Hospice, especially his nurse Marily Griffin. Mike will be missed greatly by his family and many friends. Ortiz -- Gilbert"Gilly" Ortiz passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 27, 1999, at the age of 82 in his beloved home in Nambe, NM. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons, Gilbert Jr., Augustine, John, Darren; daughters, Marcia Lujan and husband, Carlos, Catherine Ortiz; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Adelicia"Adella" Luna, Cordella Roybal, Yolanda Vigil and husband, Meliton, Loyola Alarid and husband, Benjamin; numerous nieces and nephews. Gilly will be greatly missed, but dearly remembered by his family and friends. Cremation has taken place. Sanchez -- Mr. Sosten Sanchez, 91, born to Aniseto Sanchez and Sara Pohl in Chilili, New Mexico on July 22, 1908, and became a resident of Albuquerque in 1933, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 27, 1999. Mr. Sanchez is preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Veronica Sanchez, his son Anthony Trujillo, and two sisters, Margarita Lucero and Flora Pohl. Mr. Sanchez is survived by two daughters, Maxine (Tita) Elwell and husband, Johnny F. Elwell, Gloria Ann Fitzgerald of Mill Valley, CA; three sons, Peter T. Gonzales, Edwin Sanchez and wife, Gloria Jean of Vacaville, CA, Raymond Sanchez and wife, Mary Jean; two sisters, Oracia Elwell and Jennie Lovato; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and numerous devoted nephews and nieces. Mr. Sanchez was a devout Roman Catholic, which was evident by his 40 year association with the San Ignacio Parish, his 17 years of service with the Spanish Choir at St Bernadette Parish, and his most recent 10-year relationship with Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Parish. In 1940, at the age of 32, Mr. Sanchez answered the country's call and reported for duty with the United States Army. He retained the rank of Sargent and eventually crossed the Rhine River in route to the occupation of Nazi Germany. Mr. Sanchez was active in numerous service, social and philanthropic organizations which included: Mela's Kitchen Band and Dancing Group, was a life member of the George Breece Post 401, Cooties, member of the Princess Jean and Los Volcanos Senior Centers. Mr. Sanchez was also a stout supporter and activist in the Credit Union Movement and through his involvement was one of the founding board members of the San Ignacio Credit Union. He also served on the boards of the: Rio Grande Credit Union, New Mexico Central Credit Union and Credit Union League. Visitation was on Friday at Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Rd SW, a Rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. by Mrs. Martha Herrera. Final visitation will be on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with full Military Honors by DAV Chapter Three. Pallbearers will be William Elwell, Patrick Elwell, Phillip Lovato, Joe Sandoval, Aniseto Elwell and Jeff Lovato. Thompson -- Roy Dewitt Thompson Jr., 81, passed away October 27, 1999 in Wichita Falls, TX. He was a 33 year resident of Iowa Park, TX. Mr. Thompson was born July 11, 1918 in Vernon, TX. He served as President of the Board of Directors of Wichita Valley Water Corporation, served on the North Texas Regional Planning Board, the Wichita Valley Farms Community House, and was a member of the Texas Farm Bureau. He was very instrumental in getting the first van for the Friendly Door Senior Citizens Center in Iowa Park, and was very active in community activities. He served in the U.S. Army as a Major and as Communications Officer for the 96th Infantry Division during World War II. He was active in his church, serving in various offices. He and Ernestine Pfluger were married on December 24, 1941 in Pflugerville, TX. She preceded him in death on December 23, 1980. He had formerly lived in Albuquerque for 20 years. Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Juanita Thompson of Iowa Park, TX; sons, Roy D. Thompson III of Hermitage, TN, David L. Thompson of Roswell, NM, Gene E. Thompson of Iowa Park, TX; daughters, Marilyn Cockrum of Iowa Park, TX, Carol Flatt of Iowa Park, TX; sister, Pat Aulds of Iowa Park, TX; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Services will be 2:30 p.m., Saturday, October 30, 1999, at Dutton Funeral Home, with Rev. Jarrell Kuykendall and Rev. Robert Mitchell, officiating. Walker -- Jason Rees Walker, passed away at his home in the Moreno Valley on October 26, 1999. Jason was born in Abq., NM on Easter Sunday, 1958. He attended Governor Bent Elementary, Cleveland Jr. High and Del Norte High Schools. He was an Excellent athlete, playing in both Little League Baseball and Young American Football. He moved to the Moreno Valley in 1979 and became a Master Carpenter and Roofer, working in the construction business for the next 20 years. Jason loved people and was the kind of man who would give a stranger in need, the shirt off his back. He is survived by his father, Dale Walker; mother, Dorothy Walker; brothers, Kit and Cody; sister, Julie and many friends. Yellowhorse -- Funeral services for Juan Yellowhorse,"Chief Yellowhorse", 69, of Lupton, Arizona will be held on Saturday, October 30, 1999 at 1:30 p.m. at the Fort Yellowhorse in Lupton, Arizona. Dr. R.O. Hawthorne will officiate. Burial will follow at the Fort Yellowhorse. Chief Yellowhorse was born on March 23, 1930 into the Kinyaa"aanii Dine'e (The Towering House People Clan) at Wide Ruins, Arizona. He died October 27, 1999 suddenly at his place of business in Lupton, Arizona. He was a member of the Navajo Tribe. He was a Navy Airman-Aviation Branch Chief Navigator from 1948-1958. During this time he flew 69 missions into West Berlin to supply the survivors while West Berlin was divided and placed under communist rule, during the erection of the Berlin Wall. His parents were pioneers of Indian Trading started selling at a very young age. Trailblazer for Indian Trading on Route 66. Most successful accomplishment considered in his life was the everyday people he touched. Known for his red, yellow, white signs along Route 66."We no scalp-umm paleface, just scalp-um wallet" Member of the Navajo Police Force from 1958-1960. Business currently located at Fort Yellowhorse, Lupton, Arizona and on Highway's 64 and 89 near the Grand Canyon. He is survived by his wife, Marie Marmon of Albuquerque; first wife, Connie Dominguez; sons, Steve Yellowhorse, Stewart Yellowhorse, Scott Beasley, Ben Yellowhorse and Bird Yellowhorse; daughters, Sharon Beasley, Deborah Shirley, and Annette Hoskie; 20 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter; mother, Anna Beasley of Albuquerque; brothers, Shush Yellowhorse, Frank Yellowhorse and John Yellowhorse, all of Lupton, AZ; sisters, Maryanne Brooks of Albuquerque, Jane Jones of Scottsdale, AZ, Artie Tuttle of Wyoming, Gloria Jernigan of Scottsdale, AZ and Betty Yellowhorse of Albuquerque.
