Betz -- John Lansing Betz--Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 21, 1999, at LaGrone Funeral Chapel for John Lansing Betz, age 52, of Dexter, New Mexico, who passed away October 17, 1999 at his home. Rev. Onsy Whicker of Tabernacle Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery. John was born on June 11, 1947 in York, Pennsylvania to John and Violet Hardin Betz. His father preceded him in death. His mother lives in Roswell. Survivors include two sisters, Wendy Betz and Susie Betz, both of Roswell. He was preceded in death by a sister, Cathy M. Betz. John was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of LaGrone Funeral Chapel.

Burnett -- Clinton Burnett, 81, of Broadview, NM, passed away October 17, 1999. Clinton was born July 31, 1918 in Bellview, NM, the son of Thomas E. and Mazie (Mitchell) Burnett. He married Mary Frances Green on July 27, 1940 in Clovis. He lived, ranched and farmed in the Bellview, Broadview communities for most of his life. He had lived in Gatesville for six years, where he ranched. He was a member of Broadview Church of Christ. Mr. Burnett is survived by his wife, Frances Burnett of the family home; sons, Larry K. Burnett of Estancia and Michael D. Burnett of Clovis; daughter, Sherry Wellborn of Quemado, NM; brother, Elmer Burnett of Clovis; sister, Pauline Campbell of Clovis; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Wilma Williams; brother, Tom Burnett Jr.; and granddaughter, Amanda. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 20, 1999, 11:00 a.m., at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Paul Burwash officiating, and Rev. Leonard Mitchell, assisting. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Clinton Wellborn, Jeff Wellborn, Jared Burnett, Derek Burnett, Christopher Burnett and Dwight Martin. Chavez -- Mr. Placido Chavez Sr., 85, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on October 19, 1999. Mr. Chavez was the beloved father of four daughters, Cecilia Padilla and husband, Sotelo, Isabel Padilla and husband, Leandro, Barbara Baca and husband, Joe and Clara Olivas and husband, Joe; one son, Placido Chavez Jr. and wife, Carol. Mr. Chavez is also survived by one brother, Toribio Chavez; 21 grandchildren; many great and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Chavez was a member of the Catholic Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. A Rosary will be recited Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Rd. SW, with visitation after 6:30 p.m. Martha Herrera, reciting. Kemm -- Robert B."Bob" Kemm, 85, an Albuquerque resident since 1950, died Sunday, October 17, 1999. Mr. Kemm was a member of Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church. He was also a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, the Alameda Lions Club, and the Senior Citizen's Golf Association. During World War II, Mr., Kemm was a diesel engineer with the US Army Corps of Engineers. Following the war, he was a sawmill operator in Taos, NM. Prior to moving to Albuquerque, he was involved with various businesses including lumber and hardware, construction, a nightclub and real estate. He especially enjoyed working and operating the family cattle ranch near Mora, NM. In 1980, he retired from the Bernalillo County Road Department as a diesel mechanic. After his retirement, Mr. Kemm and his wife traveled extensively to Europe, the Caribbean and South America. He loved golfing and played often until moving into the Bear Canyon Estates Retirement Community in 1997. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Sophie Kemm; son, Robert P. Kemm; grandchildren, John V. Kemm, Leslie Michelle Kemm and Eric A. Kemm; great-grandson, Michael John Kemm; and a cousin, Gilbert Kemm, all of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Otilia Kemm; and a brother, Manuel"Skippy" Kemm. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 20, 1999, at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Mcdade -- Ray Neal McDade, 53, passed away October 17, 1999. He was a resident of Clovis, having lived much of his life in Belen. He was an avid auto racing enthusiast and participant, who enjoyed building racers, and restoring and collecting classic cars. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Darla McDade; daughters, Renee Clark of Clovis, Cheri Werner of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Brittney, Ryan, Reanne, Ray, Melanie; father, Lawrence B. David of Belen; brothers; sisters; other family and friends who loved and will miss him. Mcdonald -- Helen Marie McDonald, 83, was born on April 17, 1916 and went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 16, 1999. She was born in Rico, CO and passed away in the family home in Albuquerque. She had resided in Las Vegas, New Mexico, continuously from 1951 through 1998. In August of 1998, due to failing health, she moved in with her son, Rufe Jr., in Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Rufe J. McDonald Sr.; and by her son, David G. McDonald. She is survived by two sons, Rufe Jr. and his wife, Dorothy, and Pete, all from Albuquerque, and David's widow (and her dear friend) Virginia from Billings, MT; one brother, Francis Ely and his wife, Dee of Albuquerque; and sister-in-law, Elna McDonald from Raton, NM; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had many dear friends in the Las Vegas, NM and Albuquerque areas. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Wednesday, 11:00 a.m., at Azusa Christian Faith Assembly of God, 201 Valencia NE, with Pastor Phil Derry officiating. Nieto -- Mr. Diego Nieto died in Albuquerque at the age of 54. Mr. Nieto was a member of the Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Felix Nieto. He is survived by his mother, Benerita Nieto; brothers, Danny and Edward; and sisters, Lucy Lucero and husband, Meraldo, Priscilla Pickle and husband, Joe and Lillian Martinez and husband, Richard. Qualls -- Shirley M. Exter Qualls, born December 15, 1920, passed away early October 19, 1999 after a long illness. She was a native of Albuquerque and the last surviving child of A.J. Exter, pioneer funeral director and humanitarian of the State of New Mexico. She was known widely for her volunteer efforts with disabled and elderly people, as well as her family. She enjoyed watching golf, Jeopardy, and Bob Barker. She was also a talented artist who designed one of the first Harley-Davidson logos. Shirley and her twin sister, Kathryn were talented dancers in their youth and performed at various city events, including the Kimo Theater, Sunshine Theater, and the Albuquerque Little Theater. The Exter twins can also be remembered by the Albuquerque streets, Shirley and Kathryn, which were named after them. She was dearly loved by many friends and family who will miss her quick wit and big smile. She will be laid to rest next to her twin sister, Kathryn Frei, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. She is survived by her daughter, Janice Atchley and husband, Dan of Albuquerque; grandsons, Tracy Leonard and Cynthia Staat of Rio Rancho and Travis Leonard and Dena Becker of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Trisha Leonard and Frank Troncosa of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren, Bobby and Mitchell Carrillo of Rio Rancho, Frankie Troncosa and Jesse Troncosa, both of Albuquerque; niece, Patti Scherer and husband, Jack; and great-nephews, Patrick and Christopher; niece, Lori Carroll and great-nephews, Don and Brandon; niece, Barbi Grace and husband, James and great-nieces, Kathryn and Kristina; nephew, Larry Frei and great-nephews, Jason and Bryan, all of Albuquerque; nephews, Robert Exter of California and Lauren Exter of Canada; and cousin, Ken Current and his son, Steve of Lexington, KY. Reineke -- Robert C. (Bob) Reineke, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, died Saturday, October 16, 1999. He is survived by his wife of more than 53 years, Romola Reineke; his son, Mark Reineke; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kay (Reineke) Mott. Bob is fondly remembered as a loving husband and father, a dedicated engineer, a true friend, and a fine craftsman. Torres -- Mrs. Anna Maria C. Torres, 96, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on October 19, 1999. Mrs. Torres was the beloved mother of two daughters, Bernice Torrez and husband, Feliz V. (Phil) and Clory Gutierrez and husband, Johnny; six sons, Cipriano Torres and wife, Frances, Alejandro Torres, Candelario Torres and wife, Esperanza, Arturo Torres and wife, Jennie, Gilbert Torres and wife, Usula, and Jose Torres and wife, Gloria. She is also survived by one sister, Leonore Garcia; 35 grandchildren; many great and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Lauderdale, FL, Tom Valdez and wife, Claudia of Atlanta, GA, David Valdez and wife, Cindy of South Lake, TX, Teresa Martin and husband, Billy of Ft. Worth, TX and Vicky Rohana and husband, Salem of Jerusalem, Israel; 16 very special great-grandchildren; numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Valdez; and ten brothers and sisters. Mrs. Valdez was a devout Catholic and a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and the Queen of Heaven choir. She was involved in many church organizations including Catholic Daughters of America, Altar Society, Eucharistic League of the Blessed Sacrament and Sacred Heart League. She was a true trooper who survived breast cancer and a hospital stay for spinal meningitis. Always a welcoming hostess, she was a true example of a woman after God's heart. Zancanelli -- Charles Zancanelli, 83 years of age, a resident of Los Lunas, dearly beloved husband of Alyce Major Zancanelli, passed into the hands of his loving Lord and Savior on Monday, October 18, 1999. Preceding him in death are his daughter, Charlene Boston of Colorado; his son, Gary Zancanelli of Colorado; his parents, John Baptista and Anna Zancanelli; his brothers, John Jr., Paul, Leo, Ernest, Louie, and Jim, all of Colorado; an infant sister, Anna and sisters, Annie Bergamo and Mae Laner of Colorado. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Alyce of the home in Los Lunas; his daughter, Phyllis Ann Zancanelli of Pueblo, CO; a sister, Dorothy Bacino and her two sons, Father Ben and Jim; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Also his step-son, Charles J. Hill and wife, Sylvia and their children; and step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family and all of Alyce's family dearly loved him and he will be remembered always and missed by all. He also will be missed by his sisters-in-law, Johanna Major, Maria Major Linsey, Helen Graham, and his brothers-in-law, Buddy Major, Kenneth Major and Duncan Major, and of course all their children. There will be viewing on Wednesday, October 20, 1999 at 5:00 p.m., and a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Romero Funeral Home. His nephew, Father Ben Bacnio of Colorado and Father Rick Zerwas of San Clemente Parish will recite Funeral Mass at San Clemente Church on Thursday, October 21, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in San Clemente Cemetery.
