Azure -- Fred Azure, 69, passed away September 27, 1999 at the NM Veterans Center. He is survived by five children, David, Chris, Robert and Vallerie of Las Cruces, and Victoria Soto of Socorro; brother, Ben Azure; sisters, Merceline Grace and Roseann Weston, all of Albuquerque; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Venessa; and brother, Joe. Burial has taken place at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe with DAV #3 and VFW 401 officiating.

Bernal -- Aurelio G. (Billy) Bernal, 80, beloved brother and uncle, was called home to be with the Lord, Sunday, October 10, 1999. Mr. Bernal was born in 1918 in Ingle, NM to the late Aurelio and Crescencia Bernal; he was a parishioner of San Ignacio Catholic Church; he was a lifelong resident of Martinez Town; a member of the Knights of Columbus; he retired from the Albuquerque Sunport Regency, prior to his retirement he worked for the Hilton Hotel, Cole Hotel and Fred Harvey's. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Celestino Trujillo; and sister-in-law, Arcenia Bernal. Mr. Bernal is survived by one brother, Jesse Bernal and wife, Josie of Albuquerque; five sisters, Emelia B. Trujillo also of Albuquerque, Mary Sanchez and husband, Valentine, Lollie Salinas and husband, Julian, Gloria Noreiga, all of San Diego, CA and Audrey Guerra and husband, Henry of Brea, CA; special nieces, Mary Lou Baca, Cris Candelaria; special nurse, Reina Baca and Tina Bustos. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews from Albuquerque and California, a nephew, Joseph Trujillo from Washington; and many cousins. He will be greatly missed by his loving family. Final viewing will be this morning, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated this morning, 9:00 a.m., at San Ignacio Catholic Church, 1300 Walter NE. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Casket bearers will be Raymond Gonzales, Jesse Baca, Pete Candelaria, Fidel Bernal, Robert Bernal and Frank Gutierrez. Honorary bearer will be Tom Candelaria. Conner -- Carrie B. Conner, 86, of Gallup, NM, died October 10, 1999. Mrs. Conner was born November 5, 1912 in Crowder, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Conner; father, Theodore Nations; mother, Elizabeth Ewing; daughter, Helen Tolson; brother, Melvin Nations; sister, Thelma Scott; grandsons, Johnny Conner and Jack C. Tolson II. She is survived by her sons, James B. Conner of Los Lunas and Thomas Conner of Flagstaff, AZ; daughter, Hazel Hamilton of Gallup; sister, Helen Bertinetti of Gallup; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at Rollie Mortuary on October 13, 1999, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Services will be at the First United Methodist Church on October 14, 1999 at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Jeff Symonda officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Gallup. Knoblock -- Frank N."Powder" Knoblock, 76, died at 1:05 p.m., Wednesday, October 6, 1999, at the Medicalodge in Neosho, Missouri. Powder was born July 14, 1923, in Magdalena, New Mexico, to Fred P."Dutch" Knoblock and Alice V. Field Knoblock. He served in the United States Army from 1942-1945. He was a patrolman with the New Mexico State Police, Chief of Police in Grants, New Mexico, Deputy United States Marshall, rancher and antique dealer. Powder lived in Neosho, Missouri, for the last eight years, where he ran an antique shop, Powder's Place. He retired due to illness and spent the last few years in the Medicalodge in Neosho. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Kathryn Walker of Roswell, New Mexico, Peggy Neil Boyd of Mountainburg, Arkansas, and Mary Frances Knoblock; and two sisters, Barbara Rawdon of Grants, New Mexico, and Jo Castillo of Bastrop, Texas. Memorial services were held in Neosho at the United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice in Powders name.

Kotur -- Melvin M. Kotur, 82, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 16 years, passed away on Monday, October 11, 1999. Melvin was born December 26, 1916, the son of Rade and Milka Yaich Kotur in Steubenville, Ohio. He had worked for Wheeling Pittsburg Steel Co. for 37 years before retiring. He was a proud member of local union 1190, where he was active in various committees. His leadership lead to the establishment of a scholarship program between the University of Steubenville and local 1190. He served in the US Army during WWII. Melvin was preceded in death by one brother, George Kotur and one sister, Mary Wise. He was a beloved and devoted husband to his wife of 58 years, Hilda of Rio Rancho; six children, Judy Criss and husband, Bill of Yorba Linda, CA, Joan Baker and husband, Richard of Alamo, CA, Melvin Kotur and wife, Kim of Bozeman, MT, Jim Kotur and wife, Peggy of Columbia Falls, MT, Tom Kotur and wife, Diane of Steubenville, OH, and Robert Kotur and Shari Duncan of Foster City, CA; two brothers, Milan Kotur of Toronto, OH, Larry Kotur of Weirton, WV, Diana Kozak of Steubenville, OH, and Martha Milewsky of Toronto, OH; and he was especially proud of his 12 grandchildren. The Rosary for Melvin will be recited at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 15, 1999, with a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Msgr. Douglas Raun as Celebrant. Burial service will be held in Steubenville, Ohio on October 30, 1999. Marken -- Mary Esther Grzelachowski Marken passed away at 5:10 a.m., Monday, October 11, 1999. Mrs. Marken was born January 31, 1912 in Santa Rosa, NM. Except for 25 years in Chula Vista, CA and a brief period of her youth in Fairbo, MN, she lived all of her life in New Mexico. Most of her years in New Mexico were spent in either Albuquerque or Los Alamos. The years in Los Alamos with her now deceased husband, Lawrence Gerald Marken included the spring and summer of 1945 when the final research and testing of the Manhattan Project were being conducted. Mrs. Marken is survived by two sons, Lawrence Gerald Marken Jr. and Charles Robert Marken of Albuquerque; and one daughter, Angeline Marken Kinnaman, currently residing in Rawlins, WY. Charles Grzelachowski, a brother, and Mrs. Marken's sole surviving sibling, lives in Fort Worth, TX. A Funeral Mass for Mrs. Marken will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 14 at 2:00 p.m.

Mascarenas -- Anita Smith Mascarenas, 83, an Albuquerque resident since 1952, died Monday, October 11, 1999. Mrs. Mascarenas was born on March 10, 1916 in Chamita, New Mexico to Juan and Magdalena Smith. She was married in Penasco, New Mexico. She married David Mascarenas in 1932 and he preceded her in death. She worked as the Post Mistress and as the finance officer of the Northern Railroad Office for the Santa Fe/Topeka Railroad Line in Penasco. She later worked as a school teacher with the Santa Fe School District. After she moved to Albuquerque she worked as a sales lady for Fedway, Sears and Dillard's department stores. She was an active member of the American Business Woman's Association and loving being around people. Mrs. Mascarenas is survived by her sons, Henry D. Mascarenas and wife, Isabel, Richard L. Mascarenas, Arthur L. Mascarenas and wife, Flor, all of Albuquerque, Wilbert P. Mascarenas and wife, Louella of Cerritos, CA, and John E. Mascarenas and wife, Carmelita of Campbellsville, KY; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Patrick and Joseph (Little Joe) Mascarenas; and a daughter, Patricia (Lulu). She was a dedicated mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all of her family. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 15, 1999, at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, October 16, 1999, at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Lomas and Tennessee, with Father Michael Cimino, Celebrant. Mcdonald -- Thomas Bureau McDonald, 35, beloved son of Clyde Ray and Eileen McDonald, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, October 9, 1999. Tom is survived by his brother, Clyde (Tuffy) and wife, Darcy, and their children, Alexander Thomas, Grace Eileen and Claire Karen of Fullerton, CA; brothers, Michael and James of Albuquerque; grandmothers, Gertrude Bureau and Beulah McDonald, both of Albuquerque; aunts, Linda Keleher and husband, John of Aspen, CO and Barbara Bureau of Albuquerque; uncle, Tommy McDonald and wife, Patty of King of Prussia, PA; and many cousins and countless friends. Tom, an Albuquerque native, graduated from Albuquerque High School. He attended the University of New Mexico and graduated from Western New Mexico University, where he served two terms as Student Body President. He received his Master of Criminal Justice degree from NMSU, where he served as the first student Regent on the NMSU Board of Regents. Tom was employed as a private investigator. He was currently serving a six-year term on the Governor's Commission for Higher Education as a delegate at large. Tom was an outdoorsman who loved photography, fishing, hunting, racquetball, and water and snow skiing. He was a longtime member of Ducks Unlimited. Tom will be remembered for his sunny nature, his willingness to help others, and his zest for life. Laughter followed him everywhere. He will be sorely missed. A service in celebration of Tom's life will be held Thursday, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Mitchell -- Beulah"Mimi" Mitchell, 83, a longtime resident of Truth or Consequences, NM, died Monday, October 11, 1999. She is survived by her sons, Rusty Mitchell and wife, Shayleen of Albuquerque and Homer Lee Mitchell and wife, Nina of Upland, CA; brother, Jim Duncan and wife, Barbara of Apple Valley, CA; sister, Dorothy Nichols and husband, Nick of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Homer Mitchell. Mrs. Mitchell was born June 12, 1916 in Eaton, Colorado. She retired as houseparent at Mesa Girl's Home, Mesa, AZ, and Leroy Boy's Home in LaVerne, CA. Mother loved to cook and loved her family. Otero -- Rudy Anthony Otero, 35, a resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, October 9, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Dawn Marie Otero; children, Jamie, Rudi and Casey; father and mother, Roger and Irene Padilla; brother, David Otero and wife, Esther; sisters, Gloria Baca and husband, Richard, Kathy Quintana and husband, Richard, Denise Otero and Fran Vigil; father and mother-in-law, Ron and Louisa Glanz; sister-in-law, Crucita"Tita" Clinton and husband, Mark; brother-in-law, Ruben Witka; friend and"brother", Jimmy McDonald; numerous friends from Section F at the Lobos Football Stadium; and dog, MaiTai. Overholt -- Bruce Tilgham Overholt, 51, a native of New Mexico, and a resident of Albuquerque since 1982, died very peacefully, surrounded by his family, Monday, October 11, 1999, after a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Kelly Overholt of the family home; two daughters, Kimberly Mae Dubbs and husband, Brad and Kathleen Marie Overholt; his son, Bruce Christian Overholt, all of Albuquerque; his parents, Bruce Edward and Kathleen Mae Overholt of Roswell, NM; one sister, Cynthia Beth Ong and husband, Jessie, and son, Jarrod Edward, all of San Antonio, TX; numerous cousins, uncles and aunts. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church prior to his illness. He graduated high school and Jr. college from New Mexico Military Institute, received his Bachelor degree in Biology from NM State University, his Doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University, and married his wife, Kelly, both in 1975. He served in the US Army stationed in Ft. Devens, MA. He completed a five year course in Bible Study Fellowship. He was a member of the New Mexico Veterinarian Association and Albuquerque Veterinarian Association. He was a member of the Roswell Lodge #18 A.F. & A.M., Valley Council #4, Columbia Chapter #7, and Rio Hondo Commandery #6. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal SE. Burial services will be held Friday, 3:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery, with Rev. Perea -- Mr. Ismael Perea, 78, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on October 11, 1999. Mr. Perea was the beloved husband of 59 years to Mrs. Lola Perea. Schultz -- Emily Gertrude Schultz, 76, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 29 years, passed away on Saturday, October 9, 1999. Emily was born May 25, 1923, the daughter of Felix and Theresa Saydak, in Farmington, New York. Emily had worked for Sparton Southwest before retiring. She was a member of the Meadowlark Senior Center. Emily was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald L. Schultz. She is survived by five children, Ronald Schultz of Grand Prairie, TX, Leo Schultz of Rio Rancho, Ann Rodriguez of Gallup, and Donna Schultz of Rio Rancho; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd., at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho, at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 15, 1999.
