Abrums -- Dr. John Denise Abrums, 75, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 1999. Dr. Abrums was born in Trinidad, Colorado and graduated from the University of Colorado, Medical School. He had lived and practiced medicine in Albuquerque since 1949. Dr. Abrums retired from private practice specializing in Internal Medicine in 1995; he was affiliated with St. Joseph's Hospital, Presbyterian Hospital Center, and the University of New Mexico Hospital. He had currently been the Medical Director for Turquoise Lodge. He was past President of Bernalillo County Medical Society, New Mexico Medical Society, New Mexico Society of Internal Medicine, and the American Society of Internal Medicine. In 1997, Dr. Abrums earned the Laureate Award of the New Mexico Chapter of the American College of Physicians, presented annually to a physician who has contributed significantly to the medical community and to the field of Internal Medicine over the years. He was on the faculty of the UNM School of Medicine, and a member of the New Mexico Board of Medical Examiners. He also held membership in and was often a key leader in the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the Federated Council of Internal Medicine, The Ancient Elliptical Order of the Alligator, and the National Academies of Practice (Medicine). Dr. Abrums also served as a medical officer in the US Army. He later remained active in the US Army Reserves until he retired with the rank of Brigadier General. John and his wife, Louise have traveled the world extensively and are longtime collectors of antique cars. Dr. Abrums is survived by his wife of 52 years, Louise M. Abrums, retired owner of Brandywine Galleries; children, John E. Abrums and his wife, Laura of Chimayo, NM and Louanne and her husband, Wally Sargent of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Dana, Ely and Rachel Abrums of Chimayo, NM and Gabriel Abrums of Taos, NM, Kristin Sargent of Vista, CA and Adam Sargent of Santa Fe; as well as sister-in-law, Faye Underwood of Albuquerque; and numerous other relatives and friends throughout the United States. A Memorial celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, July 22, 1999, 11:00 a.m., at St. Mark's on the Mesa Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond Place NE, Albuquerque, NM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to The John D. Andersen -- John"Andy", age 56, died July 21, 1999, surrounded by his family and friends after a heroic battle with cancer. Andy, a mentor and friend to all, was a major figure in the floor covering business for many years. Andy was born in Ellsworth, Kansas on May 6, 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy, 1964-1968. He then worked for Tandy Corporation for many years before buying a Honda dealership in Arizona. After a short retirement he opened Meridian Services, a floor covering business in Albuquerque. The remainder of his life he spent in the commercial floor covering business. With great joy, Andy married Katherine in 1995. Their life together was a marvelous experience for the combined families. Andy is survived by his wife, Katherine; sister, Janet Fisher of Salina, KS; daughter, Jennifer Andersen; and grandchildren, Eric and Angela of Isanti, MN; and two step-grandchildren, Alex Coursey and Beth Robinson of Albuquerque. Sandia Mountain Lodge #72 will conduct the Masonic Funeral at the Ballut Abyad Shrine, 6600 Zuni SE, on Saturday, July 24 at 3:00 p.m. A barbecue will follow to celebrate Andy's life. Bedell -- Betty Bedell, 76, a resident of Albuquerque for 11 years, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 1999. She was the beloved wife of Al Hluzek for 16 years; loving mother of Ann Bedell Hunt of Ft. Worth, TX, Van Bedell and wife, Kathy of Kansas City, KS and Randy Bedell of Minneapolis, MN; and cherished grandmother of Ryan, Rachel, and Christina Bedell, all of Minneapolis, MN, and Jennifer and Rebecca Bedell, both of Kansas City, KS. Betty was also the wonderful step-mother of Linda Wiseman of Tampa, FL and Al Hluzek Jr. and wife, Betty of Sarasota, FL; and enduring friend to many at the Grande Court Retirement Center. She was an adventurous dreamer that held several careers from dietician for the Veterans Administration Hospital, Prescott, AZ, to credit manager for Grimshaw Mortuary in Phoenix. Betty was a very special and kind soul who will be missed by everyone who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Meine and Renske E. Ruben Vandergraph. Chavez -- Mike Chavez, 46, a beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, was called home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 20, 1999. Mike graduate from Del Norte High School in 1971; he was a parishioner of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church; he was employed with Plant World as a landscaper; and his hobby was hunting. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Gene Chavez in 1990. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Jackie Chavez of the family home; his adored children, Deanne Chavez and fiancee, James Lopez of Phoenix, AZ, Yvette Chavez and boyfriend, Bobby Martinez, April Chavez and boyfriend, Alfredo Moya, Michael Chavez and Solomon Chavez, all of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren. Also surviving are his loving mother, Mary Chavez of Albuquerque; four sisters, Betty Hernandez and husband, Fred, Cathy Chavez, Helen Archuleta and husband, Eddie, Linda Chavez and boyfriend, Ray Martinez, all of Albuquerque; five brothers, Herman Chavez, John Chavez, Danny Chavez and girlfriend, Elena, Raymond Chavez and girlfriend, JoAnn, James Chavez, also all of Albuquerque; longtime friend, Jerry Chavez of Rio Rancho; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. Final viewing will be this morning, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m., in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. Elwell -- Mr. Serafico Elwell, 84, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on July 21, 1999. Mr. Elwell was the beloved husband of 61 years to Mrs. Orocia Elwell. Mr. Elwell is also survived by three sons, Aniseto Elwell and wife, Estella, Tony Elwell and wife, Rosie and David Elwell and wife, Kathy; ten grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Fedelino Elwell; several nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Elwell was preceded in death by his son, John Gomez and his grandson, Steve Elwell. Mr. Elwell was a member of the Catholic Church and a member of the Escabosa Riders Club. A Rosary will be recited Friday evening, 6:00 p.m., at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna NW, with visitation at the church after 5:30 p.m., Gabriella Nieto will recite the Rosary. Grossman-Aspler -- Grossman- Fay Grossman-Aspler, May 27, 1908 - July 20, 1999 We celebrate Fay's good life. She had a very positive attitude and her pleasant manner knew no bound. She was born Fay Miller in London, England and grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Archie Grossman and Sidney Aspler. While she lived most of her adult life in Miami, FL, she spent her last five years in Albuquerque with her son and daughter-in-law, Leonard and Toby Grossman. Her pride and joy was her granddaughter, Jennifer of San Francisco. Fay cherished friends and good memories she had as a member of the Coral Gables Chapter of B'nai B'rith Women and as a resident of the Grand Court in Albuquerque. Hamilton -- Josephine Hamilton, 74, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949, died Thursday, July 22, 1999. She is survived by her daughter, Carla Michelle Hamilton of Albuquerque; son, William Anthony Hamilton of Los Angeles, CA; and great-aunt, Maggie Brooks of Meridian, MS. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Hamilton. Mrs. Hamilton was a longtime member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. She worked for the telephone company for ten years as an operator. Services will be held Saturday, 11:00 a.m., at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 2401 University Blvd. SE, with Rev. Dr. L.W. Klem -- Marilyn F. Klem, 62, a resident of Albuquerque for 28 years, died Tuesday, July 20, 1999. She is survived by her son, Eric Klem of Albuquerque; daughter, Colleen Rosser and husband, Benjamin of Trinity, TX; son, Jim Klem and wife, Valerie of Charlotte, NC and John Klem and wife, Debbie of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Jeremiah, Amber, Nicole, Alicia and Talia; and several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Kreider -- John A. Kreider, 65, a resident of Albuquerque since 1954, died Sunday, July 18, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Antonia Torres-Kreider of Albuquerque; son, Mark J. Lacy -- Frances Davidson Lacy passed away Tuesday, July 20, 1999 at the age of 86 after a long illness. Fran was born to Vanda Arthur Davidson and Flossie Rainwater Davidson in Dubach, LA, March 6, 1913. She is survived by her son, Art Lacy and wife, Heidi of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Joseph E. Lacy III and family of Ruston, LA, George Malcomb Lacy of Salt Lake City, NV, and Jennifer Lacy of Houston, TX. Fran was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Lacy; and son, Gene Lacy. Fran was a devoted wife and mother, sharing 56 years of marriage with her husband, Joe. Together they led an interesting and productive life. Fran was an accomplished artist, leaving behind many beautiful paintings shared by family and friends. She was an elegant and graceful lady with an ability to make everyone in her presence feel at ease. She had many friends and although she will be missed, both family and friends rejoice that her suffering is over. Cremation has taken place. Moore -- Harold (Hal) Moore passed away July 19, 1999 of a sudden heart attack. Hal was born in Montrose, Colorado on November 29, 1923, son of Floyd L. Moore and Ella Hubbard Moore. He grew up in Montrose on a farm and sheep ranch, and was a high school athlete. He was a Navy pilot in World War II, 1943-46. Hal married Shonny Hershfield in Chicago in 1949. He received an A.M. degree in English Literature from the University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop. He taught at the University of Iowa, then moved to Boulder, Colorado, where he taught for four years at the University of Colorado. Hal then moved to Salt Lake City, where he taught for 35 years at the University of Utah. At Utah, he founded the Graduate Creative Writing Program, directed it for many years, and taught in it until his retirement. He also served for some years as the Director of Graduate Studies for the English Department. Hal was regularly noted for his teaching skills and for the understanding and excitement he generated among his students. He loved teaching, too much. Loved books, loved words. And he loved to write. Hal was the author of numerous short stories and novels, many of which were published. He loved music, painting, sculpture--all art. Loved the mountains of Western Colorado, the slick-rock desert of Southern Utah, the skies of New Mexico, the beautiful blue world. He had gentleness of spirit, humanity, and decency of the highest order. He loved the world, loved his friends, and above all loved his wife, Shonny, his children, and grandchildren with boundless affection and joy. Hal is survived by his wife, Shonny; and by his children, Jeffrey and his wife, Susan Walters and their two children, Cassidy and Dylan, in New York City; Lisa and her husband, Joseph Losi and their two children, Nicolas and Jake, in Seattle; Carla and her husband, Ted Allen and their two children, Henry and Lucy, in Oakland, California. Also by his brother, Frank of Portland, Oregon; his sister, Ruby of Montrose, Colorado; and his brother, Danny of Tullahoma, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles; and his sister, Margarite Nusbaum. A Memorial celebration of his life will be held at the First Unitarian Church of Albuquerque on Friday, July 30th, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may donate to Chamber Music Albuquerque, the American Civil Liberties Union, or to a charity of their choice.

Park -- Marvin Jay Park, 73, born September 15, 1925 in Washington State, died Monday, July 19, 1999. Mr. Park was a resident of Albuquerque for 42 years and a former resident of Seattle, WA. He is survived by his sons, Paul M. Park and wife, Rebecca of Ephrata, WA and Marvin J. Park Jr. of Bullhead City, AZ; daughters, Gail E. Cox of Phoenix, AZ and Joan M. Murray and husband, Boris of Albuquerque; 14 grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Lester, George and Carroll, all of the Seattle area; one aunt; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; and two grandchildren. Mr. Park was an Army veteran of WWII where he served his country in the Philippines. He was formerly an instructor of welding at TVI and he is remembered as an avid outdoor sportsman. Mr. Park enjoyed hunting and fishing and he was an accomplished marksman. Saldevar -- Memorial service for Bob Saldevar, 69, of Alto, will be Saturday, July 24, 11:00 a.m., at Community United Church in Ruidoso with the Rev. Harry Riser officiating. Bob died Tuesday, July 20 at his home. He was born March 24, 1930 at Oakland, California. He was a retired electronic engineer and had served in the Navy. He moved to Alto in 1994 from Albuquerque. He married Dina Long on June 9, 1951 at Pasadena, California. He is survived by his wife, Dina of Albuquerque; a son, Scott Saldevar and his wife, Debbie of Alamogordo; and a daughter, Dee Saldevar-Brown and her husband, Mark of Placitas, NM; a sister, Virginia Alvarez of San Lorenzo, CA; two grandchildren, Christina Rae Hennsley and her husband, Christopher and Joshua Scott Saldevar; and one great-grandson, Tyler Michael Hennsley. Sanchez -- Fabian L. Sanchez Jr., 59, July 13, 1940, passed away July 19, 1999 after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his son, James Schulte and wife, Karin of Payson, AZ; daughter, Dorann Cooper and husband, Douglas of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters, Frances Fazekas of Bedford, OH and Dorothy Ambrose and husband, John of Rotonda West, FL. Memorial services will be held Friday, July 23, 1999, 12:00 noon, at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Interment of cremains will take place at 2:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
