Alarid -- Lydia E. Alarid, 76, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, July 2, 1999. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Del P. Alarid of Albuquerque; sons, Del O. Alarid and wife, Kaylene of Corrales, David C. Alarid of Albuquerque, and Rick Alarid and wife, Martha of Corrales; daughter, Rita C. Sanchez and husband, Alfred of Albuquerque; grandsons, Christian Alarid, Matthew Alarid and Zach Alarid, all of San Jose, CA, Alfred E. Sanchez and wife, Monica of Rio Rancho, and Travis A. Sanchez and wife, Angelica of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Elishia Lucas and husband, Josh of Jolon, CA, Nicole M. Alarid and fiance, Jeremy Martinez of Albuquerque, and Rebecca C. Chambon -- On Friday, July 2, 1999, after a short illness, Charles Homer Chambon passed on to his best friends' Home. A veteran of World War 2, Charles left Mom, Dad and home at the age of 17, after earning the Life Scout award from the Boy Scouts of America, serving 44 months in the US Navy. He participated in anti-submarine operations in the North Atlantic, the Invasion of North Africa, the battle of the Solomon Islands, the Phillipines Liberation campaign, the beginning of the Atomic Age, as well as several other campaigns and operations. His Naval service saw him earn Plank Ownership on four aircraft carriers, namely the USS Santee, USS San Jacinto, USS Intrepid and USS Randolph. His final duty was that of Bosum's Mate on the Randolph. After the war, he settled in Pittsburgh, PA, working as a steel worker and eventually retiring in 1980 from J&L Steel Co. His greatest pride as a steel worker was his work in cutting stainless for the Saturn V nose cones and the atomic reactor cores for Brookhaven Labs. Charles was a former member of the VFW Post No. 7376 in Saxonburg, PA, as well as a member of VFW Post 5890 in Rio Rancho. Charles was preceded in death by his son, Robert Charles; and his wife, Margaret Morrison. Charles is survived by his first wife, Elizabeth Ranallo Hallmark; their daughter and son-in-law, Maryann and Eric Homes of Rio Rancho; their son and daughter-in-law, John and Elizabeth Chambon of Manasses, VA; his sisters, Enzy Terry of Versailes, KY, Violet LoPresti of Mayville, NY; and his brother, Gerald Chambon of New Castle, PA; six grandchildren, Thomas Walters and his wife, Jeanette, Dawn Walters-Holmberg, Jason Chambon, Jennifer Holmes, Yvette and Kimberly Chambon; and five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Williams, Christopher and Steven Henderson, Victoria Holmes and Vincent Walters. Visitation will be today, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at Rio Rancho Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Rio Rancho Funeral Home on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. with Pastor Peter Denlea officiating. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Filichia -- Marion Y. Filichia, loving wife of Joseph L. Filichia, died July 4, 1999 at the age of 77 years. She is also survived by her loving children, James Filichia of Jacksonville, FL, Frances V. Hamming of Wilmette, IL, Mary Dee Filichia of San Rafael, CA; and seven grandchildren. Gilbertson -- Irving W. (Swede) Gilbertson, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, passed away July 1, 1999 at an Albuquerque hospital. He was born May 20, 1917 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin to Mingel and Alma (Hagan) Gilbertson. He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean of 21 1/2 years; two sons, James Gilbertson and wife, Phyllis of Albuquerque, John Gilbertson of Silver City, NM; three step-children, Paul N. Thompson and Ginger of Hartsville, TN, Randall W. Thompson and Laura of Santa Fe, and Sandra Crow and husband, Robert (Bob) Crow of Moriarty; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vi Anthony of LaCrosse, WS and Marie (Donald) Dodson of Milwaukee, WS; three brothers, Merrit (Irene) Gilbertson of Sparta, WS, Walter (Audrey) Gilbertson, and Channcy Gilbertson of LaCrosse, WS; a brother-in-law, Grant Haugstad; and a sister-in-law, Renada Gilbertson of LaCrosse, WS. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Alice Mitchel, Esther Clott, and Ruth Haugstad; three brothers, Glenn, Spencer and Milburn Gilbertson, all of Wisconsin. Irving was a WWII veteran, serving in Italy in the U.S. Army. He retired from ICX Freight Lines in 1982, after 29 1/2 years. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be conducted at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, 3905 Las Vegas Drive SW (of which he has been a member of 23 years). on Tuesday, July 6, at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Sandy Burley officiating and assisted by Rev. Newton Whitstone. Gradington -- Lebon W."Tiger" Gradington, 67, of Albuquerque, passed away on July 3, 1999. Born on June 10, 1999 to Lebon Sr. and Ollie Mae Gradington in Texas. Tiger retired from Hooten last year as a construction foreman. He enjoyed his work and spoke highly of his employees. Tiger is survived by his wife, Susie Mae; three sons, Kenneth Gradington, Edward Gradington and wife, Dianne, and Stacy Gradington; three daughters, Debra Carrol and husband, Greg, Jacqueline Gradington, and Shelia Gradington; his mother, Ollie Mae; and a brother, Kermit Gradington. Tiger also leaves behind two special friends, Jim and Vivian Hardin; 14 grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation and wake will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6, 1999 at Hillcrest Funeral Home Chapel. Harless -- Lucille Harless, age 95, born September 25, 1903 in Dallas, Texas, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, July 4, 1999. She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Harless; and children, Helen Harless, John A. Harless, Pelma Jean Medders, and Jimmie Harless. She is survived by three daughters, Mae Brazfield, Sue Luther and husband, Bill, both of Mountainair, and Christine Lowe of Albuquerque; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. She will lie in state Wednesday, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, from the chapel of Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors. Klausen -- Robert W. Klausen, 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1960, died Saturday, July 3, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Jane Brogdon Klausen; daughter, Diane Y. Headrick and her son, Alex Headrick of Littleton, CO; brother, Raymond A. Klausen and wife, Betty of Whittier, CA; nieces, Kristy Stephenson of Ontario, CA and Marcia Vasquez of Corona Del Mar, CA and their families; step-son, David Brogdon and his wife, Stephanie and their children, Zachary and Sarah of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel in 1982; and son, Larry in 1972. Robert enjoyed a good game of golf, traveling, music and writing. Martinez -- Juana Nepomucena Jaramillo Martinez, 92, passed away peacefully at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Joe P. and Geraldine Martinez, in Albuquerque, on the morning of Saturday, July 3rd after a short and mild illness, independent to the last and still proclaiming,"no quiero darles guerra" y"vale mas volver a casa." In addition to Joe and Jerry, she is survived by her grandchildren, Michael W. Martinez, Ruth Y. Martinez, Maria A. Martinez; and great-grandchildren, Forrest Michael and Mariano Paz; as well as grand sons-in-law, Joe Tapia and Mike Schildt; and multitudes of nieces and nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Martinez and was the last surviving member of a large family of sisters and one brother. She lived the last 16 years of her life in Albuquerque after having lived in Ojo Caliente for six years, and in Santa Cruz for 21 years, where she worked as the cook and housekeeper for the Priests at Holy Cross Church. She wished to be laid to rest in El Rito, where she came into the world in 1906. A Rosary is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 6, 1999 at Block-Salazar Mortuary. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 7, 1999 at the San Juan de Nepomuceno Church in El Rito. Interment will follow at the El Rito Catholic Cemetery. Ortiz -- Gerald Marcelino Ortiz, 30, a resident of Chilili, died an unexpected death, Saturday, July 3, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Domitila Candy Ortiz; one daughter, Desiree; one son, Mark; mother, JoAnn Nunnary and his father, Marcelino Ortiz; as well as his brothers and sisters, Rene, Valerie, Antonette, Chipelin, Shawna, Lewis, Augustine, Javier and Chelo. Gerald is also survived by his grandparents, Rose Martinez and Jerry Ortiz, and Rose and Bennie Gutierrez; as well as his in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Louie Sanchez; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Prayer service will be Tuesday, July 6, 1999, 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Chilili, NM. Padilla -- Mr. Charlie H. Padilla, age 78, died Sunday. He was a World War II veteran and was preceded in death by his parents, Enriquez and Teresita Padilla. He is survived by a son, Charlie H. Padilla and wife, Colleen of Lenexa, KS; a brother, Fred Padilla of Albuquerque; and a grandchild, Angela Padilla of Lenexa, KS. Funeral services for Mr. Padilla will be held Wednesday from the Ascencion Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Pajarito Cemetery. Schramm -- Nicholas P. Schramm, 83, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1987, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 1999. Nick was born March 29, 1916 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Peter and Catherine Arendt Schramm. Nick had been a Sales Manager for an auto dealership for over 20 years before retiring. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Therese Schramm in 1991. Nick is survived by his daughter, Gayle Lemler of Rio Rancho; grandchildren, Shane, Cody and Brianna of Rio Rancho. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, July 6, 1999, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with the service at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd., at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho, with the Rev. Clarence Galli officiating. Entombment will follow in the Floral Garden Mausoleum in Vista Verde Memorial Park. Arrangements by Vista Verde Mortuary.
