Andre -- Anna"Anne" Andre ,87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1956, died Thursday, April 1, 1999. She is survived by her brother, Hubert Hannemann and wife, Eva of Dormagen, Germany; and dear friend, Morris Segel of Albuquerque. Mrs. Andre was preceded in death by her husband, Odd Andre in 1982. She and her husband owned Alta Vista Apartments until shortly after his death. Andre -- Maj. Robert J. Andre, US Army (Ret.), 78, died April 5, 1999. He is survived by his son, Michael D. Andre and wife, Barbara of Tijeras, NM; daughters, Leslie D. Spitzer of Las Cruces, and Jacqueline K. Grizzle of Rohnert Park, CA; grandchildren, Nicole D. and Amelia R. Spitzer, and Troy, Tiffany, Todd and Travis Grizzle; brother, J. Richard Andre and wife, Peggy of Naples, FL and Cincinnati, OH; sister ,Jeanne M. Andre of Rancho Mirage, CA; and two nephews and one niece. He served in the US Army during WWII and Korea. In 1945, he was awarded Battlefield Commission to Second Lt. in Germany. He was also awarded the Bronze Star medal for his heroic achievement in the vicinity of Kufstein, Austria. He retired after 20 years as Major. For 22 years, he was a life and health insurance agent for Bankers Life and Casualty. Barragan -- Julio P. Barragan, 73, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away Sunday, April 4, 1999. Mr. Barragan was a resident of Albuquerque. He was a lifelong teamster. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roman and Apolonia Barragan. He is survived by his loving wife, Frances; three daughters, Catherine Barragan, Tomasita Torrez and husband, Robert, and Theresa Lovato; one son, Frank Lovato; two sisters, Teresita Ayon and Cepranita Chavez; one brother, Frank Barragan; two grandchildren, Robert Torrez Jr. and Julio Camden; two great-grandchildren, Keith and Jasmine Torrez; also surviving is his good friend, Virginia Archibeque. Funeral services will be conducted this morning at 9:00 a.m. in the Chapel with interment to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Cadena -- Adolfo Cadena, 51, beloved son and brother was called home to be with the Lord Thursday, April 1, 1999. He is survived by tow sons, Ricardo and Christopher Cadena of El Paso, TX; a daughter, Yvonne Cadena of Florida; one granddaughter. Also surviving are his father, Emilio Cadena of Albuquerque; Mother, Benita Almanza of San Jose, CA; five brothers, Art Cadena, Javier Almanza and wife, Karin both of San Jose, CA, Rogelio Moreno and wife, Betty of Tracy, CA, Manuel Ramirez and wife, Bonnie of Hollister, CA and Raymond Cadena of Albuquerque; two sisters, Lorenza Escobar and husband, Robert of Morgan Hill, CA and Leticia Martinez and husband Cesario of Socorro, NM. Carnes -- Robert W. Carnes, 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1970, died on Sunday, April 4, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ann Carnes of Albuquerque; daughters, Janet DuBois of Chicago, IL, Patricia Landry and husband, Bill of San Francisco, CA, and Sandra Young and husband, Jeff of Farmington, NM; grandsons, Nicholas and Timothy Young; brother, Victor Carnes and wife, Betty of Fayetteville, PA; four nieces; three nephews; and sisters-in-law, Sylvia Plute and Olga Petersen and husband, Carl, all of Pueblo, CO. Mr. Carnes was a veteran of World War II, having served with the 355th Fighter Group in England, as well as the Korean Conflict. He retired from Hallmark Cards as a sales representative and then purchased Bob's Hallmark Store in Coronado Center."We loved him and will miss him. We'll meet you again at the old fishing hole. Darrow -- Mary Jo Darrow, 71, died April 4, 1999 at Newton Medical Center. She was born November 6, 1921, in El Paso, Texas, the daughter of Francis and Velma Rodgers Scott. She graduated from High School in Albuquerque, NM, in 1939 and from the University of New Mexico in 1943 with a degree in elementary education. A Newton resident, she was a homemaker. She belonged to First Presbyterian Church and the PEO, both at newton, Job's daughters, Albuquerque, and Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, where she had been president and served as chapter adviser for 16 years. On May 14, 1943, she married Floyd F. Darrow at Columbus Miss.. He survives. Other survivors include: two sons, Patrick C., Topeka, and Roger B., Newton; and a daughter, Dona Lyn Wilpolt, Santa Fe, NM; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, Newton, with the Rev. James W. Anderson presiding. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM. Elledge -- Bernice (Bernie) Elledge, born May 21, 1929, a long time resident of Albuquerque, went home to be with Our Lord on April 5, 1999, after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Hollis P. (Bud) Elledge in 1990. Survivors include her stepfather, Charles L. Young of Clovis, NM; son, David Elledge and wife, Gayle of Edgewood, NM; granddaughters, Heather Zimny and husband, Brian; Alicia Hidalgo and husband, Stuart; and great-grandson, Benjamin Hidalgo, all of Albuquerque. Her close friend, Mike Zownir provided love and support to the end. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. A vocalist for many years, Bernie began singing professionally at the age of fourteen. She was a member of the Rio Grande Jazz Society and had a passion for song. The joy that her voice brought to so many will be greatly missed. We are confident that the Angelic Choir of Heaven has a new, clear voice singing praises to God and our Savior, Jesus Christ. Gentry -- Thomas N. Gentry Sr., 78, left to be present with The Lord on Good Friday, April 2, 1999. Thomas was born May 5, 1920 in Independence, Virginia, the eldest of four children born to Oscar and Estella Gentry. He grew up in West Virginia, where he met and married Norma Greene and later he and his family moved to New York before coming to New Mexico. During his lifetime, he worked as an apprentice embalmer; for the Western Union Telegraph Co.; operated a security guard business, and after moving to Rio Rancho, was employed by Allsups Convenience Store. Thomas was a faithful member of Covenant Christian Church in Rio Rancho since joining under the pastorate of Charles Story. He also served as an Elder. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Norma; son, Thomas II and wife, Gayle Gentry of Corrales; daughter, Hallene Condon and husband, Gilbert of Cambria Heights, NY; grandsons, Thomas Gentry III and wife, Myka of Albuquerque, David Gentry and wife, Debbie of Rio Rancho; granddaughters, Daria DeBroux and husband, Victor of Hollis, NY, Shauna Sohl and husband, Bryant of Cambria Heights, NY, Lara Nieto and husband, Quint of Dallas, TX; nine great-grandchildren; his mother, Estella Gentry of Lawrenceville, GA; sister, Marian Lucille Collins of Lawrenceville, GA; brother, James Gentry and wife, Delia of Jersey City, NJ; brother-in-law, Emanuel Greene and wife, Garland of Rio Rancho; sister-in-law, Ouida and husband, Otis Sr. of Winston Salem, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Groff -- Ted Groff, founder of Groff Lumber Co. and longtime Albuquerque resident, passed away Easter Sunday morning. Ted was 92 years old and in good health when he passed away. He was born in Bakersfield, Missouri in 1906. He attended the University of Oklahoma where he met his future wife, Christine Johnson. They were married 57 years. Ted started Groff Lumber Co. in August of 1950. He and Christine ran the lumberyard until 1978 when his sons, Richard and Wendell began running the yard. Ted then ran railroad crosstie pick up jobs in Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Utah and several locations in New Mexico. Ted is survived by his family, Richard and June Groff, Wendell Groff and Alice Lambert; his grandchildren, Lara Groff, Neal Ambrose, Felicia White and Todd White; great-grandson, Javier Ambrose. Ted Groff was an entrepreneur who lived by the sweat of his brow and the quickness of his mind. His word was his bond. HE WILL BE MISSED. Guarino -- Josephine R. Guarino, 74, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 12 1/2 years, passed away on Saturday, March 27, 1999. Josephine was born November 7, 1924, the daughter of Tiburcio and Maria Martinez Reyes in Manhattan, New York. Josephine had been a secretary for a pharmaceutical company and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph in November of 1998. Josephine is survived by her son, John Guarino of Rio Rancho; daughter, Jeanne Dvorak of Edgewood, NM; one sister, Mary Padilla of Cocoa Beach, FL; and three grandchildren, Michael, Thomas and Timothy. Hedges -- Hilda L. Hedges passed away on April 5, 1999. Our beloved mother and grandmother was born in Faulett, Texas October 16, 1918. She was married to Carl Hedges. She is survived by her five children, Carol Wilson of Albuquerque, Darla Armstrong and husband, Pat of Albuquerque, Rev. Daniel Hedges and wife, Ginger of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Ron Hedges of la Crossé, Wisconsin, and John Hedges and wife, Jackie from Las Crossé, Wisconsin. She was blessed with seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Services are pending with French Mortuary.

Hodges -- Mary Ellen Hodges, 81, a resident of Belen, passed into God's Kingdom on April 3, 1999 at the family home, after a long struggle with illness. She was born on August 14, 1917 in Quemado, NM, the eldest daughter of D. Frank and Pearl Trainer. Although she was not born in Belen, most of her life was spent in Belen. In her earlier years, she was active in a number of civic and social organizations, which included, the Lions Club Auxiliary, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and Buddy Poppy (chairwomen). In 1997, a proclamation was issued by the Mayor of Belen, Proclaiming August 14, 1997 to be"Mary Ellen Hodges Day". After the death of her husband, she joined the work force as an employee of Ranchers Bank in Rio Communities until her retirement. Her gentle manner, her caring selfless way, her enormous capacity for love and compassion, and her quick smile and wonderful laugh, will be forever remembered. Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Benny L. Hodges in 1969, her father in 1971, and her mother in 1983. She is survived by her only sister, Sarah, and husband, Jim Parrinello; her three children, Ron Hodges and his wife, Robin of Ruidoso, Benny Hodges and his wife, Mary Ellen of Belen, and Sue Ellen Ness and her husband, Everett of Socorro. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mary Ellen's entire life was devoted to, and her greatest joy was derived from her family. There will be a viewing on Tuesday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Romero Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Belen. Interment will follow in the Terrace Grove Cemetery in Belen. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Trevor Hodges, Travis Hodges, Benjamin Hodges, Joshua Hodges, Chris Albrecht, and Kyle Goret. Johnson -- William R. (Bill) Johnson, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, left this earth Friday, April 2, 1999, for the glories of Heaven. He was a resident of Albuquerque since 1955. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie; his six children, Bill Johnson, Becky and husband, Howard Barnes, Pam and husband, Justin Fontenot, Robert Johnson, Rick Johnson and Don Johnson, all of Albuquerque. Schmidt -- Inez Schmidt, 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1978, died Wednesday, March 24, 1999. She is survived by her son, Christopher Schmidt and his wife, Randi of Sunnyvale, CA; and grandchildren, Anna Lewis, and Andrew and Martin Schmidt. Mrs. Schmidt was born and raised in Northern Minnesota. She raised a family and taught music and kindergarten in Waukegan, IL. Mrs. Schmidt moved to Albuquerque after the death of her beloved husband, Henry. She volunteered her time as a docent, teacher's aide, and at St. John's Episcopal Church and Thrift Shop. Mrs. Schmidt enjoyed opera, hiking and traveling in New Mexico and abroad. She died suddenly and peacefully in harmony with all. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Friday, April 9, 2:00 p.m., at The Cathedral Church of St. John, 4th Street, at Silver SW, with The Rev. Canon Rhonda McIntyre officiating. a reception in her home will follow the memorial service. Valenzuela -- Mrs. Barbara A. Valenzuela died Sunday in Albuquerque at the age of 46. Weir -- Margaret Weir, 104, passed away on April 1, 1999. Mrs. Weir was the beloved mother of Pat Younkin. She is survived by three grandsons and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Weir was preceded in death by her loving husband, William J. Weir. She was born in Belfast Northern Ireland and came to Albuquerque in 1967. She was a member of the Daughters of the British Empire, the Kirtland Officers Wives Club, and an Honorary member of the ROWC. Arrangements for cremation were made by the Sunrise Society of New Mexico, 891-8200.

Wood -- Elmo Wood, 72, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949, died Monday, April 5, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Claudine Wood of the family home; daughters, Glenda S. Hutcherson and husband, Joe of Amarillo, TX and Jan Deyoe and husband, Steve of Los Gatos, CA; one grandson, Douglass W. Toya of Amarillo, TX; brothers, Clifford Wood of Albuquerque and John Wood of Ada, OK; and sister, Betty Thomas of Albuquerque. Mr. Wood was the former owner of the North Second Paint and Body Shop. Services will be held Thursday, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Mr. George Carman officiating.
