Andre -- Anna"Anne" Andre, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1956, died Thursday, April 1, 1999. She is survived by her brother, Hubert Hannemann and wife, Eva of Dormagen, Germany; and dear friend, Morris Segel of Albuquerque. Mrs. Andre was preceded in death by her husband, Odd Andre in 1982. Barragan -- Julio P. Barragan, 73, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away Saturday, April 4, 1999. Mr. Barragan was a resident of Albuquerque. He was a lifelong teamster. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roman and Apolonia Barragan. He is survived by his loving wife, Frances; three daughters, Catherine Barragan, Tomasita Torrez and husband, Robert, and Teresa Lovato; one son, Frank Lovato; two sisters, Teresita Ayon and Cepranita Chavez; one brother, Frank Barragan; two grandchildren, Robert Torrez Jr. and Julio Camden; two great-grandchildren, Keith and Jasmine Torrez; also surviving is his good friend, Virginia Archibeque. Friends may visit today, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the chapel of Alameda Mortuary with an evening service at 7:00 p.m. also in the chapel. Bickerstaff -- Helen Mae Bickerstaff, 86, passed away in Albuquerque April 1, 1999 after a long illness. She was born in Steubenville, Ohio and lived most of her life in Pleasant Grove, Utah. She is survived by a son, Robert James Bickerstaff of Albuquerque; daughters Linda Elizabeth Simpson of Cortez, CO and Barbara Ann Farnworth of Clearwater, FL. She is also survived by twelve loving grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Charles; and son, Leroy Charles. Also surviving her are a sister, Elizabeth McDonald of Chicago; brothers, George Alridge of Peachtree City, GA and Leo Alridge of Hemet, CA; and nieces and nephews.

Boland -- William Munroe Boland, 83, formerly of St. Louis, MO and a resident of Albuquerque since 1971, died Easter Sunday, April 4, 1999 after a courageous battle with lung disease and cancer. Bill was a general contractor, a teacher at Bernalillo High School and President of Albuquerque St. Vincent De Paul Society. He is survived by his loving family and many friends. Here in Albuquerque he is survived by his loving wife, Carmel; his stepchildren, Robert and Isabel; 16 grandchildren; his son, John Boland and wife, Michelle; and four other children around the world. Bill is also survived by his brother, Harry Boland and sister, Margaret Dyer. Bill devoted his retirement years through the St. Vincent De Paul Society to helping others that were in need. He will be greatly missed. Funeral Services for Mr. Boland will be held on Wednesday at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Church. Carnes -- Robert W. Carnes, 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1970, died on Sunday, April 4, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ann Carnes of Albuquerque; daughters, Janet DuBois of Chicago, IL, Patricia Landry and husband, Bill of San Francisco, CA, and Sandra Young and husband, Jeff of Farmington, NM; grandsons, Nicholas and Timothy Young; brother, Victor Carnes and wife, Betty of Fayetteville, PA; four nieces; three nephews; and sisters-in-law, Sylvia Plute and Olga Petersen and husband, Carl, all of Pueblo, CO. Mr. Carnes was a veteran of World War II, having served with the 355th Fighter Group in England, as well as the Korean Conflict. He retired from Hallmark Cards as a sales representative and then purchased Bob's Hallmark Store in Coronado Center."We loved him and will miss him. We'll meet you again at the old fishing hole. Chavez -- Lillie Chavez, 87, died on April 4, 1999 in Santa Fe. She was born in Watrous, NM to Francisco and Anida Gonzales. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Telesfor; stepdaughter, Emily; and niece, Dora Archuleta. Mrs. Chavez had been an interpreter for INS in El Paso, Texas. She and her husband owned a real estate company and restaurant in Albuquerque. She was also active as a volunteer working with senior citizens. Mrs. Chavez was a member of Santa Maria de la Paz Church and member of the Santa Fe Senior Citizens Group. She is survived by her sister, Carrie Guthmann; sons, Harry J. Campbell and his wife, Antonia of Las Vegas, NM, Charlie Chavez and his wife, Helena of Long Beach, CA; stepchildren, Drucilla Curry and her husband, George of Albuquerque, Clarence Chavez of Chihuahua, MX, Bennie Chavez and his wife; a special niece, Diane Anderson; and many other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, friends, nephews and nieces. A Rosary will be recited at Santa Maria de la Paz on Thursday, April 8, 1999 at 7:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place and services will be held in Watrous, NM. Garcia -- Estanislado C. (Tiny) Garcia, 49, a lifelong resident of Belen, passed away on Friday, April 2, 1999 at his home in Belen. He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Tiny was a graduate of New Mexico Military Institute, Class of 1968. He attended UNM, and graduated with Honors from the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science in 1977. Tiny was a bricklayer before he joined his parents, Salo and Annie Garcia in the family business at Romero Funeral Home in 1977. After his mother's death in 1992 and his father's death in 1995, Tiny became co-owner of Romero Funeral Home. He was a member of the New Mexico Funeral Directors Assoc., the National Funeral Directors Assoc., and the Belen Chamber of Commerce for many years. Tiny was an avid hunter, and never missed a chance to go hunting, fishing and camping. He loved going to the lake with his son, Carlos and all his nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters. His unforgettable character touched many, and his sense of humor was known by everyone he came in contact with. He was preceded in death by his parents, Salo and Annie Garcia, his maternal grandparents, Estanislado and Barbarita Garcia, his paternal grandparents, Estanislado and Barbarita Garcia; maternal grandparents, N.C. and Alfides Romero; and his uncle, N. Arno Romero. He is survived by his three children, Carlos, Analysia, and Celeena; his brothers and sisters, Maria Elena Chavez and husband, Frankie of Albuquerque, Consuelo Velarde and husband, Victor of Cuba, N.M., Salomon Garcia and wife, Anna, Anthony Garcia and wife, Lorraine, all of Belen, Richard Garcia of Los Lunas, Charles Garcia and wife, Ramona of El Paso, TX, and Anita Baca and husband, Damien of Albuquerque. He is also survived by a very special friend, Josephine Jaramillo of Jarales, N.M., and many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. There will be a viewing on Monday from 5:00 to 6:00 PM, with the rosary beginning at 6:00 PM at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Gentry -- Thomas N. Gentry Sr., 78, left to be present with The Lord on Good Friday, April 2, 1999. Thomas was born May 5, 1920 in Independence, Virginia, the eldest of four children born to Oscar and Estella Gentry. He grew up in West Virginia, where he met and married Norma Greene and later he and his family moved to New York before coming to New Mexico. During his lifetime, he worked as an apprentice embalmer; for the Western Union Telegraph Co.; operated a security guard business, and after moving to Rio Rancho, was employed by Allsups Convenience Store. Thomas was a faithful member of Covenant Christian Church in Rio Rancho since joining under the pastorate of Charles Story. He also served as an Elder. Groff -- Ted Groff, founder of Groff Lumber Co. and longtime Albuquerque resident, passed away Easter Sunday morning. Ted was 92 years old and in good health when he passed away. He was born in Bakersfield, Missouri in 1906. He attended the University of Oklahoma where he met his future wife, Christine Johnson. They were married 57 years. Ted started Groff Lumber Co. in August of 1950. He and Christine ran the lumberyard until 1978 when his sons, Richard and Wendell began running the yard. Ted then ran railroad crosstie pick up jobs in Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Utah and several locations in New Mexico. Ted is survived by his family, Richard and June Groff, Wendell Gross and Alice Lambert; his grandchildren, Lara Gross, Neal Ambrose, Felicia White and Todd White; great-grandson, Javier Ambrose. Ted Gross was an entrepreneur who lived by the sweat of his brow and the quickness of his mind. His word was his bond. HE WILL BE MISSED. Hodges -- Mary Ellen Hodges, 81, a resident of Belen, passed into God's Kingdom on April 3, 1999 at the family home, after a long struggle with illness. She was born on August 14, 1917 in Quemado, NM, the eldest daughter of D. Frank and Pearl Trainer. Although she was not born in Belen, most of her life was spent in Belen. In her earlier years, she was active in a number of civic and social organizations, which included, the Lions Club Auxiliary, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and Buddy Poppy (chairwomen). In 1997, a proclamation was issued by the Mayor of Belen, Proclaiming August 14, 1997 to be"Mary Ellen Hodges Day". After the death of her husband, she joined the work force as an employee of Ranchers Bank in Rio Communities until her retirement. Her gentle manner, her caring selfless way, her enormous capacity for love and compassion, and her quick smile and wonderful laugh, will be forever remembered. Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Benny L. Hodges in 1969, her father in 1971, and her mother in 1983. She is survived by her only sister, Sarah, and husband, Jim Parrinello; her three children, Ron Hodges and his wife, Robin of Ruidoso, Benny Hodges and his wife, Mary Ellen of Belen, and Sue Ellen Ness and her husband, Everett of Socorro. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mary Ellen's entire life was devoted to, and her greatest joy was derived from her family. There will be a viewing on Tuesday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Romero Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Belen. Jaruzel -- Andrew R. Jaruzel, born October 12, 1927 in Gaylord, Michigan, died April 2, 1999 in Albuquerque, NM. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sirena Boyd Jaruzel; children, Thomas Jaruzel and his wife, Susan, Margaret and husband, Curtis Gentry, John Alex Jaruzel, Elizabeth Ann Crowell; brothers, Stanley Jaruzel and his wife, Ann, Mitchell Jaruzel, Peter Jaruzel and his wife, Ethel, Paul Jaruzel and his wife, Mary; sister, Clara Hughes; grandchildren, Melissa and Jessica Gentry, Joshua and, Tasha and Tierra Leese, and Jason Kroph. He retired from the United States Air Force after 28 years of service, and worked for Albuquerque National Bank and Sunwest Bank 12 years. Newberry -- Mary K. Newberry, 76, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, died Friday, April 2, 1999. She is survived by her daughters, Ann McBride and husband, Delbert of Albuquerque and Latricia Louise Hill and husband, Max of Albuquerque; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer with whom she owned and operated Newberry Upholster for 35 years. Services will be held Wednesday, April 7, 1999, 2:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE with Pastor Michael Johnson officiating. Pedersen -- Edward H. Pedersen, passed away April 3, 1999. Edward is survived by his brother, Roy Pederson and wife, Ann; nephew, Roy; Roy's children, Roy III, Anthony, Lia, and Amanda where Eddie resided. Valenzuela -- Mrs. Barbara A. Valenzuela died Sunday in Albuquerque at the age of 46. Mrs. Valenzuela is survived by her husband, Tony Nieto; father, Pete Valenzuela; mother, Magdalena Valenzuela; son, Michael Valenzuela and wife, Tanya Chavez; daughter, Renee Valenzuela; stepson, Antonio Nieto and wife, Misty; brothers, Roger Valenzuela, Pete Valenzuela Jr., and Phillip Valenzuela and wife, Patsy; brother-in-law, Eloy Nieto and wife, Vickie; sisters, Juanita Gallegos and husband, Leo, Theresa Valenzuela, and Anita Valenzuela and boyfriend, Darell; sister-in-law, Helen Encinias and husband, Anthony; grandchildren, Michael Valenzuela Jr., and Sebastian, Krystal and Vincent Nieto; aunts and uncles, Mary and Mike Pino, Bernice Valenzuela, Eufracia Torres and husband, Thomas, Melcore and Mary Valenzuela; two close friends, Priscilla Moya and Jack Montoya; mother and father-in-law, Ernest and Mary Nieto; nieces and nephews, Annette, Dolores and husband, J.J., Sandra and husband, Steven, Benny, Rudy, Artie, Phillip Jr., Alfred and Leonardo; and great-nieces and nephews, Brandi, Andrea, Felicia, Dominic, Shannon, Leo, Damian, John, Briana, Melissa and Patrick. Funeral Services for Mrs. Valenzuela will be held on Wednesday at the St. Anne Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John J. Perrone, Phillip Valenzuela Jr., Larry Sisneros, Eloy Nieto, Antonio Nieto and Tony Encinias. Honorary pallbearers will be Leonardo Gallegos Jr., Arthur Valenzuela and Steven Llamas. A Rosary for Mrs. Valenzuela will be recited on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Anne Church.
