Aragon -- Mary Ann Baca-Aragon, 81, beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, was called home to be with the Lord, Friday, December 5, 1998. Mrs. Baca was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church, a member of the Alter and Rosary Society at St. Anne's Catholic Church, and a member of the Senior Citizens Center, located at Holy Family Parish Hall. She is survived by her husband, Manuel Aragon; three sons, Rosendo R. Baca and wife, Patsy, Samuel A. Baca and wife, Maria, Gustavo A. Baca and wife, Judith, all of Albuquerque; two daughters, Mary Lillian Maldonado and husband, Andy, Cecelia J. Carter and husband, Jack of Albuquerque; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one brother, Orlando S. Romero and wife, Lydia. She will be greatly missed by her loving family. Visitations will be this evening, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary, on the corner of 8th and Iron, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Final viewing will be Monday morning, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., also in the Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning, 11:00 a.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will follow at San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Emilio Maldonado, Joseph Maldonado, Valerio Maldonado, Sam Baca, Simon Baca and Germain Carter. Banks -- Susan Banks-Duran, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, December 3, 1998, following a lifelong battle with diabetes. She is survived by her husband, Jim Duran of Albuquerque; brother, Peter Banks and sister-in-law, Ann Banks of Gloucester, MA; sons, Jeff and daughter-in-law, April of Denver, CO and Michael and daughter-in-law, Diane of Albuquerque; step-son, Tom of Santa Fe; niece, Pam; and nephews, Deaken and Lansing Banks, all of Gloucester, MA. She was preceded in death by parents, Sara N. and Neill K. Banks. Susan was born August 4, 1941 in Palmerton, PA. Susan was the former owner/operator of The Birdwatcher Boutique in Albuquerque's Old Town and also had pursued careers as a department store manager and realtor. She was known for her strength and courage throughout all of the year she struggled with diabetes, and for the inspiration she provided for others. A Memorial service will be Monday, 7:30 p.m., at St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center, 1815 Las Lomas Road NE, with Father Jack Riesling of Dubuque, IA, a close friend of the family, officiating. Caretto -- Rosary and Funeral Mass for Joseph Albert Caretto"Jo Jo", 51, of Gallup, NM will be held on Monday, December 7, 1998, 10:00 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Cathedral. Bishop Donald E. Pelotte, and members of the Diocese will celebrate. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 6, 1998, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Rollie Mortuary, 401 E. Nizhoni Blvd. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park-Garden of Devotion. Joe passed away Wednesday, December 2, 1998. He was born August 12, 1947 to Albert and Anna Caretto of Gallup. Joe graduated from Cathedral High School with the class of 1965. He also attended the University of New Mexico before his interruption of service duty with the United States Army. He was a Vietnam Veteran of the Army, where he served with the Headquarters Company of the United States Military Assistance Command, Vietnam, from February 1967 to February 1968. He received the Vietnam Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, The Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Devise, Sharpshooter Riffle Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. In 1969 he finished his Army career at the White Sands Missile Range, White Sands, NM. On November 16, 1968 Joe married Anita A."Skeeter" Washington. Joe worked for Navajo Motors and Doc's Enco before joining in partnership with Rollie Mortuary. Joe belonged to numerous local and state organizations. He was a member of BPO Elks Lodge, Croation Catholic Union Lodge #59, Gallup Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Principe Luigi Lodge #1, and The University of New Mexico Gallup Branch Ambassador. He was also a member of the New Mexico Funeral Service Association, National Funeral Directors Association, and the International Order of the Golden Rule. He served on the boards of Sunwest Bank, Rehoboth McKinley Christian Hospital, Chairman and President of the Inter-tribal Indian Ceremonial. He was a member of the New Mexico Amigos, where he served as past District Vice President. Joe was an avid fan of the Arizona State University sports, the Arizona Cardinals, and the Phoenix Suns."Go Devils!" He is survived by his wife, Anita A."Skeeter" Caretto of the family home in Gallup; daughters, Jodele Bobi Caretto of San Diego, CA and Brandi Jo Caretto of Scottsdale, AZ; twin sister, Joann Susan Caretto of Albuquerque. He is also survived by sisters-in-laws, Paula L. Ochoa of Albuquerque, Susan B. Husband of Gallup and Sally M. Hollow Horn of Kayenta, AZ; nieces, Barbara Georgitsis of Green Bay, WI, Debra S. Chavez -- Lucille E. Chavez died on Thursday, December 3, 1998. She is survived by her sisters, Jennie Guzman and Corrine Sandoval, both of Albuquerque and Aurelia Trujillo and husband, Joe D. of Santa Fe; brother, Edward T. Chavez and wife, Josie of Albuquerque; close and longtime friend, Carl W. Molden of Albuquerque; and several nieces and nephews. Ms. Chavez was preceded in death by her parents, Eduardo T. and Luisa Armijo Chavez; sister, Crucita Montoya; and brother, Julian Chavez. She was a native New Mexican and resided virtually all her life in Albuquerque. She was a hair stylist and worked at numerous salons in the Albuquerque area. She will be greatly missed by her immediate and extended family, as well as her many patrons. Mass will be celebrated Monday, December 7, 1998, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Lomas and Tennessee NE, with Father Luis Jaramillo, Celebrant. Chavez -- Mr. Manuel M. Chavez, 73, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peaceful at home in the arms of his loving family on December 3, 1998. Mr. Chavez was the beloved husband of 56 years to Mrs. Timmie Chavez. He is also survived by four daughters, Frances Espinoza and husband, Jimmy, Irene M. Griego and husband, Pable, Josie (Betty) Sedillo and husband, Nick and Elizabeth (Dean) Pacheco and husband, David; one sister, Augustine (Jessie) Rodriguez; three brothers, Toby Chavez, Robert Chavez and Ernest Chavez; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Chavez was a member of the Catholic Church and a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II. A Rosary will be recited Sunday afternoon, 3:00 p.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church with visitation after 2:30 p.m. at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning, 9:00 a.m., at Holy Family Church with final viewing at the church after 8:30 a.m. Father Jack, Celebrant. Cohen -- Diane Cohen was born April 4, 1921 in Glasgow, Scotland to Bertha and Max Goldman. During World War II she left school to work as a furrier making flight jackets for the RAF. She married Phillip Cohen who was serving in the Navy in 1944 and came to the US in 1945. On the death of her beloved husband, Phil, she took over as owner and manager of Adrian's House of Fashion in Evansville, IN. In 1983, Diane moved to Albuquerque. She worked at Foley's and the Adobe Rose selling furs. She is survived by her daughter, Adrienne Hein; her son, Dr. Mark Cohen and daughter-in-law, Susan; and her grandchildren, Erica Hein, Rebecca and Brandon Cohen; an aunt, Jean Goldman; and cousins, Bernard and Carol Graham, all of Toronto, Canada. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be sent to the David Spector Shalom House or to B'Nai Israel Synagogue or Jewish Family services. Japs -- Ray T. Japs, 83, a resident of Albuquerque since 1938, died Thursday, December 3, 1998 at a local hospital. He is survived by his brother, Bernard Japs and wife, Jo of St. Helens, OR; sisters, Charlotte Loy of Eugene, OR, Millie Hilgert of Fairway, KS and Winnie Cather-Howard of Lincoln, NE; niece, Bonnie Horton and husband, William of Albuquerque; and very close family friends, David and Sophie Martinez of Albuquerque and their children, Elysia, Juan, Rebecca and Christie. Mr. Japs was born June 18, 1915 in Lincoln, NE. He moved to Springer, NM in 1934, then to Albuquerque in 1937, where he worked for the Conservancy Oil Company for over 50 years. He married Macie Dama Payne in June of 1941. He was preceded in death by his wife and brother, Howard L. Japs. Mr. Japs was a Veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army. His love for the American flag was demonstrated constantly. He gave speeches on the care and respect of the flag and gave brochures to everyone. He raised the flag every morning and lowered it at night as long as he was able. Then he had his friend, David Martinez do it. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion Post in Albuquerque. Mr. Japs was a member of the United Methodist Church. Services will be held Monday, 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Entombment will follow at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Pallbearers will be David Martinez, William Horton, J.R. Dotson, and Juan Martinez. Maes -- Joe N. Maes, a longtime Albuquerque resident, died Friday, December 4, 1998. Mr. Maes was a WWII Veteran of the US Army, serving in the Medical Corps. He taught school in various New Mexico cities, including Albuquerque and also taught in California. He was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. Survivors include his daughter, Gloria Fejeran; two grandchildren; sisters, Telesfora (Dora) Vigil, Frances Torres and husband, Cirprian, Romelia (Romie) Garcia and husband, Severo, Rachael Almaraz and husband, Felix; brothers, Ambrose Chavez and Rudy Maes; sister-in-law, Rosie Maes; several nieces and nephews. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 8, 1998 at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5310 Claremont NE, with Deacon Reuben Barela, reciting. Mckown -- Kenneth L. McKown, age 73, a resident here since 1949, passed away Sunday in a local hospital. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Vincent McKown; son, Randal McKown; and daughter-in-law, Barbara Belanager; and granddaughter, Allie McKown; brothers, Omer McKown, Tommy McKown, Buck McKown. Mr. McKown was a disabled Army Veteran of World War II and was retired from the Internal Revenue Service. O'caña -- Randy Allen O'Caña, 33, a resident of Albuquerque for four years, died Friday, December 4, 1998. He is survived by his mother, Margaret O'Caña; sister, Pamela O'Caña and husband, Leo Polanco, all of Albuquerque; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Buddy J. O'Caña. Mr. O'Caña was a brave and courageous person during his battle with Lupus over the past 17 years. His hobbies included working on his computer, cooking, and going to the movies. Mr. O'Caña was loved and admired by many and will be sorely missed. Padilla -- Placido Florian Padilla, 84, a resident of Tome, NM, went home to the Father on December 3, 1998. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tome. He attended Los Lunas High School, where he participated in the sports he loved. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher who loved all types of music and spending time with his family. Placido loved flowers. He also treasured all of his friendships with his many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luis Roberto Padilla and Eloisa Ortiz Padilla; an 18-month old daughter, Ramoncita"Tita" Padilla; stillborn son, John; brothers, Vicente and Gabriel Padilla; sisters, Josephita Padilla Chavez, Dolores Padilla Montoya, and Dora Padilla Silva. Placido is survived by his wife, Crisanta, of 55 years, of the family home in Tome; children, Regina Padilla Griego and her husband, Ed, Matthew Padilla, Cecilia Magdelena Padilla Maestas and her husband, Ted, Fabian Padilla and his wife, Liz, Beatriz Padilla, Rita Padilla and her husband, Ely, Patricia and Carmelita Padilla, Ambrose Padilla and his wife, Jeanette, Eugene"Gino" Padilla, James, Mark, Adrian, David Lee, and John Roger Padilla, Andrea Padilla; grandsons, Bruce, Edwin, Jr., and Geoffrey Griego, Rodrigo Padilla, Jayme Placido Salgado, Reynaldo and Julio Maestas, Dominico"Mico", Jaime, and Jeremias Padilla, Vicente Padilla; granddaughters, Tina Griego Storey, Rhoanna Griego Austin, Cris Renee Griego, Ryan, Kathy Griego, Rebecca Griego, Raquel Padilla, Marisol Padilla, Celina Ervin, Alejandrina, and Monica, Padilla; great-grandchildren, Danielle, Joshua, Jeremiah and Jacob Griego, Sean Padilla, Leanne Gutierrez, and Nancy Storey, Erin and Stephanie Griego, Christian and Cheryl Austin, Andrew and Nolan Ryan, Alejandro and Azalea Griego, Phillip Phillips; great-great-granddaughter, Taylor Nicole; brother, Anastacio Padilla and family; sisters, Victoria Padilla Zamora and family, Consuello Padilla Baca and her husband, Lalo and family and Luz Padilla Garcia and her husband, Louis and family. Placido is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews from his brothers and sisters side of the family, as well as the nieces and nephews on his wife's side of the family. We remember with affection all of the deceased nieces and nephews who are now with God. We would also like to remember with love all of the spouses of his brothers and sisters both deceased and living, Jose Ramon Chavez, Gillie Silva, Pablo Zamora, and Benito Montoya. Two viewings will be held on Sunday, the first will be at 6:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tome. The second viewing will be on Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m., also at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Tome Catholic Cemetery. Father Fiel will be officiating. Pallbearers will be his sons, Matthew, Fabian, Ambrose, Eugene"Gino", James, Mark, Adrian, David Lee, and John Roger Padilla. The family would like to invite everyone to the Juan Diego Parish Hall in Tome after the Funeral Mass to thank everyone and share friendship, love, and memories. Honorary pallbearer will be Jose U. Risbon -- Dorothy M. Risbon, 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949, died Thursday, December 3, 1998. She is survived by her daughters, Carole Mock and husband, Joe of Albuquerque and Vicki Clendenen and husband, Gary of Tyler, TX; granddaughter, Teri Henderson and husband, Chris; grandsons, Larry Clendenen and wife, Cyndi of Diboll, TX, Jason Clendenen of Austin, TX, and Don Mock and wife, Jan of Albuquerque; great-grandsons, Jeremy Henderson, Cody Clendenen, and Cody and Jason Mock; great-granddaughter, Heather Clendenen. Dorothy was a member of Riverside Church of Christ.
