Berglund -- Elizabeth (Betty) P. Berglund, 93, a resident of Albuquerque since 1969, died Thursday, October 29, 1998. She is survived by her four nieces, Margaret Lawson, Agnes Hannahs, S. Lynn Gaffin and Emily Waddell; and two nephews, James C. Peabody and H. Stuart Waddell. She was a member of Harwood United Methodist Church. Mrs. Berglund retired as a Kindergarden Teacher. Caretto -- Rosary and Funeral Mass for Joseph Albert Caretto"Jo Jo", 51, of Gallup, NM will be held on Monday, December 7, 1998, 10:00 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Cathedral. Bishop Donald E. Pelotte, and members of the Diocese will celebrate. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 6, 1998, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Rollie Mortuary, 401 E. Nizhoni Blvd. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park-Garden of Devotion. Joe passed away Tuesday, December 2, 1998. He was born August 12, 1947 to Albert and Anna Caretto of Gallup. Joe graduated from Cathedral High School with the class of 1965. He also attended the University of New Mexico before his interruption of service duty with the United States Army. He was a Vietnam Veteran of the Army, where he served with the Headquarters Company of the United States Military Assistance Command, Vietnam, from February 1967 to February 1968. He received the Vietnam Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, The Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Devise, Sharpshooter Riffle Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. In 1969 he finished his Army career at the White Sands Missile Range, White Sands, NM. On November 16, 1998 Joe married Anita A."Skeeter" Washington. Joe worked for Navajo Motors and Doc's Enco before joining in partnership with Rollie Mortuary. Joe belonged to numerous local and state organizations. He was a member of BPO Elks Lodge, Croation Catholic Union Lodge #59, Gallup Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Principe Luigi Lodge #1, and The University of New Mexico Gallup Branch Ambassador. He was also a member of the New Mexico Funeral Service Association, National Funeral Directors Association, and the International Order of the Golden Rule. He served on the boards of Sunwest Bank, Rehoboth McKinley Christian Hospital, Chairman and President of the Inter-tribal Indian Ceremonial. He was a member of the New Mexico Amigos, where he served as past District Vice President. Joe was an avid fan of the Arizona State University sports, the Arizona Cardinals, and the Phoenix Suns."Go Devils!" He is survived by his wife, Anita A."Skeeter" Caretto of the family home in Gallup; daughters, Jodele Bobi Caretto of San Diego, CA and Brandi Jo Caretto of Scottsdale, AZ; twin sister, Joann Susan Caretto of Albuquerque. He is also survived by sisters-in-laws, Paula L. Ochoa of Albuquerque, Susan B. Husband of Gallup and Sally M. Hollow Horn of Kayenta, AZ; nieces, Barbara Georgitsis of Green Bay, WI, Debra S. Gutierrez of Gallup, Salem and Alice Hollow Horn of Kayenta, AZ, Brittany Gutierrez of Gallup; nephews, Justin Hollow Horn of Kayenta, AZ and P.J. Gutierrez of Gallup. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert (1964) and Anna (1981) Caretto; father and mother-in-law, Richard B. Washington (1996) and Pauline H. Washington (1987). Chavez -- Lucille E. Chavez died on Thursday, December 3, 1998. She is survived by her sisters, Jennie Guzman and Corrine Sandoval, both of Albuquerque and Aurelia Trujillo and husband, Joe D. of Santa Fe; brother, Edward T. Chavez and wife, Josie of Albuquerque; close and longtime friend, Carl W. Molden of Albuquerque; and several nieces and nephews. Ms. Chavez was preceded in death by her parents, Eduardo T. and Luisa Armijo Chavez; sister, Crucita Montoya; and brother, Julian Chavez. She was a native New Mexican and resided virtually all her life in Albuquerque. She was a hair stylist and worked at numerous salons in the Albuquerque area. She will be greatly missed by her immediate and extended family, as well as her many patrons. Mass will be celebrated Monday, December 7, 1998, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Lomas and Tennessee NE, with Father Luis Jaramillo, Celebrant. Chavez -- Mr. Manuel M. Chavez, 73, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peaceful at home in the arms of his loving family on December 3, 1998. Mr. Chavez was the beloved husband of 56 years to Mrs. Timmie Chavez. He is also survived by four daughters, Frances Espinoza and husband, Jimmy, Irene M. Griego and husband, Pablo, Josie (Betty) Sedillo and husband, Nick and Elizabeth (Dean) Pacheco and husband, David; one sister, Augustine (Jessie) Rodriguez; three brothers, Toby Chavez, Robert Chavez and Ernest Chavez; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Chavez was a member of the Catholic Church and a Veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II. A Rosary will be recited Sunday afternoon, 3:00 p.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church with visitation after 2:30 p.m. at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning, 9:00 a.m., at Holy Family Church with final viewing at the church after 8:30 a.m. Father Jack, Celebrant. Cline -- Kelly E. Cline, 93, a resident of El Paso, TX, formerly of Albuquerque, died Thursday, December 3, 1998. He is survived by his daughter, Wilma Blue and husband, Dale of El Paso, TX; sister, Luella Cash and husband, Bill of Mt. Cuddihy -- Karen Louise Cuddihy, our dearest Karen, died sadly and tragically on Thursday, November 10, 1998. She was 32 years old and lived in Albuquerque. She is survived by her parents, Richard and Bobbie; sisters, Debbie, Julie and Meghan; brothers, Sean and Rick; grandfather, John Phillips; and as well as extended family. Over the last several years she magically touched the lives of countless children with cancer through the UNM Hospital Cancer Clinic and Camp Enchantment. She was a support group facilitator with the UNM Women's Center. As an academic tutor, Karen challenged and inspired many students to their true potentials. Karen attended St. Pius X High School, received a Bachelors degree in Psychology from UNM, and attended the University of West Virginia and UNM for graduate studies. We celebrate Karen's grace, love, dedication and selflessness to all she knew and loved. Funeral Mass will be celebrated this Saturday, 11:00 a.m., at Prince of Peace Catholic Community, 12500 Carmel Ave. NE, near Tramway and Paseo Del Norte. Interment will follow at Mt. Giron -- Steve Eddie Giron, 58, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, December 2, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Lucia J. Steve will be greatly missed. Kindred -- Ms. Jesse Avon Kindred, 78, a resident of Albuquerque for the past 11 years, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 1998 due to natural causes. She was born on December 14, 1919 in Kadoka, South Dakota. She grew up on a cattle ranch south of Belvedere, SD then moved to a farm outside of Martin, SD, where she lived with her first husband, Rex Hibray. She then moved to a cattle ranch in Smithwick, SD, where she and her husband, Kenneth L. (Slim) Kindred ranched and raced horses until he passed away in 1968. Then she moved to Hot Springs, SD, where she worked as a cook at the State Home for 15 years. She retired and moved to Albuquerque, where her middle son and family reside. She is survived by her three sons and their spouses, Bill and Marge Hibray of Auburn, WA and their children, Tammy, Jeff, Missy and James, Ray and JoAnn Hibray of Albuquerque and their children, Darren, Kevin and Shelley, and Frank and Carol Hibray of Puyallup, WA and their children, Stefanie and Chris. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Wilma Ireland Kindred DeBoer of Oral, SD and her children, Jane Witte, Debra Coleman, Vicky Witte, Pete Kindred, and Mike Kindred. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Michelle, Rachel, Megan, and Jewellea. Memorial services will be held on Friday, December 11, 1998, 3:00 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1100 Montano Rd. NW, in Albuquerque. Lucero -- Theresa Maxine Trujillo Lucero, 49, a resident of Albuquerque for 26 years, died Wednesday, December 2, 1998. She is survived by her husband, Fred Al Lucero; son, Michael A. Lucero; and parents, Alex J. and Margaret B. Trujillo. Maxine was a graduate of Sandia High School in 1967. She graduated from Columbia University in 1972 with a B.S. in Dental Hygiene. She married Fred A. Lucero on July 15, 1972. Maxine was a certified Dental Hygienist and spent 21 years of her career working for Kirtland Air Force Base Dental Clinic. She was a dedicated wife and mother who was willing to do anything for her family. Her loving heart will forever be missed. O'caña -- Randy Allen O'Caña, 33, a resident of Albuquerque for four years, died Friday, December 4, 1998. He is survived by his mother, Margaret O'Caña; sister, Pamela O'Caña and husband, Leo Polanco, all of Albuquerque; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Buddy J. O'Caña. Mr. O'Caña was a brave and courageous person during his battle with Lupus over the past 17 years. His hobbies included working on his computer, cooking, and going to the movies. Mr. O'Caña was loved and admired by many and will be sorely missed. Oakes -- Thelma L. Oakes, age 67, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on December 2, 1998 at a local hospital. She is survived by her husband, Roy R. Oakes; sons, Michael R. Padilla -- Placido Florian Padilla, 84, a resident of Tome, NM, went home to the Father on December 3, 1998. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tome. He attended Los Lunas High School, where he participated in the sports he loved. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher who loved all types of music and spending time with his family. Placido loved flowers. He also treasured all of his friendships with his many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luis Roberto Padilla and Eloisa Ortiz Padilla; an 18-month old daughter, Ramoncita"Tita" Padilla; stillborn son, John; brothers, Vicente and Gabriel Padilla; sisters, Josephita Padilla Chavez, Dolores Padilla Montoya, and Dora Padilla Silva. Two viewings will be held on Sunday, the first will be at 6:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tome. The second viewing will be on Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m., also at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Tome Catholic Cemetery. Torres -- Joe C. Torres, 84, passed away at his home December 1, 1998. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Guadalupe Torres; one daughter, Rachel Chowaniec of Parsippany, NJ; two grandsons, Joseph Anthony Chowaniec of Tempe, AZ; and one great-grandson. Also surviving are his sisters, Anita Barrera and Carolina Torres of Corpus Christi, TX and Beatrice Zepata of Lafayette, LA. Mr. Torres worked for Gardenschwartz Sports Store and was manager of Levines Department Store, finally retiring in the early 1990s. Zuk -- Lillian Marie (nee Carmichael) Zuk, age 78, of St. Charles, MO, passed away December 2, 1998. She was the dear wife of Alfred E."Al" Zuk; dear mother of Thomas D. Langdon, Sherry Zuk, Tony Zuk, Rose E. Zuk, Fred W. Zuk (HuiSuk) and Sheila Zuk-Brown (Jim); dear sister of Ernest Carmichael (Susan); dear grandmother of ten and great-grandmother of four. Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. at the Baue Chapel of St. Charles. Interment will be private. The family is being served by the Baue Funeral Home, 620 Jefferson St., St. Charles, MO, where friends may call Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Memorials to donor's choice preferred.
