Anaya -- Abel Anaya, Sr. AUGUST 7, 1910 - OCTOBER 22, 1998 Mr. Abel Anaya, Sr., 88, passed away Thursday. He was born in Tajique, New Mexico and was a resident of Albuquerque. Mr. Anaya is survived by his wife of 67 years, Juanita; son, Laco Anaya, Sr. and his wife, Priscilla, Ben Anaya and his wife, Emily, Abel Anaya, Jr. and his wife, Alice, Sam Anaya and his wife, Carol of Los Lunas, Carmel and his wife, Carmela, Nario and his wife, Rosalie; daughters, Lita Cruz, Bea Varela and her husband, Eddie; 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, at the Chapel of Riverside Funeral Care Center in Los Lunas. A Rosary will be recited at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Albuquerque on Sunday at 7:00 p.m., and a Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Estancia. Interment will follow at the Estancia Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. David Hauffuman and the 8th Floor Nursing Staff of Lovelace Hospital for the care and kindness given at this most difficult time.

Cardon -- Esther B. Cardon, 64, a resident of Albuquerque since 1962, died Thursday, October 22, 1998. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Emilio B. Cardon of Albuquerque; daughter, Amelia Montoya and husband, David; sons, David Cardon, Raymundo Cardon, Emilio Cardon, Jr. and Andy Cardon, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, David J., Lilly Ann, Crystal Ann, Jesus and Valerie Ann Montoya and Felisha, Terra, Samantha and Jonathan Cardon; great-grandchildren, Justin A. Cardon, Tiandra Yarbrough and Dasha Wilson; father, Nicanor J. Benavidez; sisters, Elodia Garcia and Odeila Monsivaiz; brothers, Pat Benavidez and Elias Benavidez; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Cardon was preceded in death by her son, Freddy Cardon in 1992. Services will be held Monday, 10:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Pallbearers will be David Cardon, Raymundo Cardon, Emilio Cardon, Jr., Andy Cardon, David J. Montoya and Bill Baca. Dyck -- Alfred Dyck, a resident of Albuquerque since 1955, died Tuesday, October 20, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Helen E. Dyck of the family home; sons, Stanley Dyck and wife, Donna of Albuquerque and Robert Dyck and wife, Belinda of Warsaw, MO; daughters, Pamela Oliver and husband, David of Albuquerque, and Carol Rampon and husband, Jeff of Richland, WA; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Eleanor Arbuthnot, Evelyn Waybright and Twyla Mae Smith and husband, Fred, all of Liberal, KS; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie. He served his country during WWII and belonged to the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. For many years, he worked for Montgomery Ward and American Furniture. Services will be held Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Estes -- Anne Marie Estes, age 34, died Wednesday, October 21, 1998. She was born in Albuquerque, raised in El Paso, and returned to Albuquerque to attend UNM in 1982. She is survived by her parents, Roger D. and Sheila Estes of Albuquerque; grandmother, Ette Estes of Albuquerque; brother, David D. Estes of Albuquerque; niece, Celeste Estes; nephew, Ethan Estes, both of Albuquerque; uncle, Robert W. Estes of Albuquerque; aunt, Eunice Kinney of Artesia, NM. She was a member of Calvary Chapel. A Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 26, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Sunset Memorial Park. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Kouri -- William A."Bill" Kouri, Sr., 70, a lifelong resident of New Mexico and of Albuquerque since 1938, died Tuesday, October 20, 1998. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, June A. Kouri of Albuquerque; sons, Mark R. Kouri and wife, Jeannie of Colorado Springs, CO, Mike Kouri and wife, Penny, William Kouri, Jr. and wife, Amy and Matthew Kouri and wife, Heather, all of Albuquerque; daughters, Connie Tucker and husband, Michael of Albuquerque and Diane Fear and husband, John of Longmont, CO; 15 grandchildren; sisters, Alyce Jernigan of Albuquerque, Selma Buckingham and husband, H.J. of Farmington and Rose Ann Geha of Toledo, OH; sisters-in-law, Ruth Kouri and Vi Kouri; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was a graduate of Albuquerque High School. He served in the U.S. Marines in WWII and the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Bill had a long career managing motels and restaurants. He was the Motel Association's"Lodger of the Year" in 1982. Bill was president of the New Mexico Restaurant Association twice. In 1992, he was"Restauranteur of the Year." Bill was inducted into the Tourism Hall of Fame in 1996. He loved sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys and Lobo football and basketball. Bill was active for many years in the UNM Lobo Club. He coached Y.A.F.L. football and was league president in 1971. Memorial services will be held Saturday, at 2:30 p.m., at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, 318 Silver SW, with Rev. Ned Ross officiating. Lerma -- Funeral services for Mr. Joe L. Lerma will be held on Saturday at the St. Anne Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at the San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. Sandoval -- Abel P. Sandoval, 95, died October 11, in Rio Rancho. He was retired from the City of Albuquerque, where he worked as a Civil Engineer. He was a Mason, as well as a member of 2nd Presbyterian Church. He married Viola Martinez in 1930. After many happy years, she died unexpectedly in 1960 in Los Angeles. In 1961, he married Emma Eichwald Martinez. His beloved Emma died in July of this year. He is survived by daughters, Velma Juergens (Chuck), Hazel Weitkamp (Ray); sons, Phil Martinez (Erin Morrisey), Lee Martinez (Sue), and Carolyn Martinez; sisters, Shonita Kurtz, Martha Phillips (Jim); brothers, Lawrence Sandoval (Lutilda), Jake Sandoval (Peggy); seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. A Memorial service is Saturday, October 24, 10:00 a.m., at 2nd Presbyterian Church, 812 Edith Blvd. NE, Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Abel's name to Menaul School, 2nd Presbyterian Church, or your favorite charity.

Viers -- Robert Lee Viers, age 61, of Little Rock, Arkansas, died unexpectedly Tuesday, October 20, 1998. As a young man, Mr. Viers served in the Air Force, stationed in Alaska, California and Arizona. Most of his adult life he was an educator, and he was a lifelong learner. He most recently taught adult education in workplace settings in Arkansas. Mr. Viers is survived by his mother, Marie Viers of Albuquerque; two sons, Joel Viers of Tucson, AZ and Joran Viers of Albuquerque; and their mother, Margaret Viers of Austin, TX; and his three brothers, Gerry Viers of Los Angeles, CA, Ronald Viers of Clearwater, FL, and Walter Viers of Albuquerque; and several nieces and nephews; and his longtime companion, Phyllis Johnson of Little Rock, AR. All who knew him remember him as a gentle and loving man, and he will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held in Albuquerque on November 7, and again in Newton County, Arkansas on November 14.
