Baca -- Sigfredo Baca passed away Wednesday, August 3rd. He is survived by his children, Loyda Pogorelc and husband, Frank from Ontario, California, Sylvia Aguilar and husband, Raymond from Fountain Valley, CA, Roland Baca of Albuquerque, Sigfredo Baca Jr. and wife, Dolores form LaVerne, CA, Mary Garcia and husband, Arsenio of Albuquerque, Herman Baca and wife, Theresa of Albuquerque, Frank Baca and Patsy of Albuquerque, Eileen Gallegos and husband, Leo of Albuquerque; and daughter-in-law, Dorothy Baca. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by his wife, Fulgencia Baca; and sons, Ted and Danny Baca; and grandsons, Danny and Richard Baca. Blanchette -- Rose T. Blanchette, 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 1959, died Tuesday, September 1, 1998. She is survived by her sister, Marion Cook of Cambridge, MA; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Blanchette was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Byzantine Rite Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Cactus Club, Handwriting Analysis Club, and Sandia Civitan Club. Dardanes -- Katherine Dardanes, 74, beloved mother and grandmother passed on to the loving arms of the Lord on Monday morning, August 31, 1998. The daughter of the late George and Ruth Dardanes was born on a ranch in Trinchera, NM, on Sunday, September 30, 1923. She was a resident of Raton, NM from 1951 to 1993, where she was involved in public service work. Mrs. Dardanes was a dedicated democrat and actively campaigned for several governors, senators, and local candidates. She worked as a payroll clerk at the State Capitol under Governor Burrough's term and was secretary to Judge Frederici. She was manager to the Motor Vehicle Department for 14 years. Mrs. Dardanes was involved in the First Baptist Church and spent her last healthy years caring for her family and the elderly. Due to illness, she moved to Albuquerque in 1993 to be closer to her family. She always had a kind word for everyone. She will be greatly missed by her daughters and grandchildren. Katherine is survived by her daughters, Penny M. Martinez, Evangeline R. Vigil, and Cecieia I. Dardanes-Lambert and husband, Ted; and grandchildren, Rachel L. Martinez, Monica L. Dufft -- James Henry Dufft Jr., a resident of Rio Rancho for 22 years, passed away on September 2, 1998. Mr. Dufft was born in New York City on February 6, 1928 to James H. and Helen Dufft Sr. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of the family home in Rio Rancho; daughter, Dorellen Dufft-Dejesus of Rio Rancho; and brother, Carl Dufft and wife, Doris of New York. Before retirement, Mr. Dufft was employed by the IRS as an auditor. He graduated from Roxbury High School in 1947, attended Muhlenberg College, graduated from Upsala College in New Jersey in 1959 and attended Rutgers Law School. He was a member of Sandoval Lodge #76, AF&AM, Scottish Right Valley of Rockville Center, Ballut ABYAD Shrine, Sons of American Revolution in Albuquerque, DAV in Rio Rancho, American Legion and Rio Rancho United Methodist Church. Visitation for Mr. Dufft will be held at Rio Rancho Funeral Home on Saturday, September 5, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with Funeral services being held at 2:00 p.m. at Rio Rancho United Methodist Church with Rev. Erker -- Josef Erker, 75, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 19 years, and coming to New Mexico from Brooklyn, New York, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 1998. Josef was born February 6, 1923, the son of Aloise and Elisabeth Jaklistch Erker in Yugoslavia. He was married to Laura Mader on November 7, 1953 in New York. Josef was a cabinet maker for the Hinzman and Waldman company in New York before retiring. He loved to work in the garden and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Josef is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Laura of Rio Rancho; six children, Denise Erker and husband, Ferreia of New York, Clara Trimboli and husband, Donald of Rio Rancho, Janet Farrell of California, Roger Erker and wife, Doreen of Los Lunas, Robin Luttrull and husband, Jerry of California, and Irene Erker Roybal and husband, Matthew of San Diego, CA; one brother, Siegfried Erker and wife, Josephine of New York; one sister, Herta Eisenpofz and husband, Henry of New York; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, and very special friends, the Riaza family. Faculjak -- John Steven Faculjak Sr., 80, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 28 years, went home to his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, September 2, 1998. John was born December 28, 1917, the son of Frank and Agnes Bakic Faculjak in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a youth, John worked as a cowboy on a ranch in Colorado. There he learned to make saddles and other leather goods which he shared with many people throughout his lifetime. He fought in the South Pacific during WWII with the 32nd Calvary Division of the US Army. John's life was characterized by an enduring passion to overcome adversity and his upbeat cheerfulness. John was preceded in death by his son, John Jr. in 1985; and his wife, Jackie in 1996. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Mary Keane and husband, Tim and their children, Megan, Michael and Molly of Brookfield, WI, Joan Bustos and husband, Phillip and their children, Matthew, Aimee and Lisa of Albuquerque; his son, Paul and wife, Debbie and their son, Eloy of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Zia and Zane Faculjak of Albuquerque, in addition, John is survived by a sister and brother in Wisconsin and many other family and friends. Gilmer -- Evelyn A. Gilmer, 83, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, September 2, 1998. She had been a resident of Albuquerque since 1930. She was born December 21, 1914 in Judsonia, AK to Walter and Elsie Gray. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orvis; son, Richard Gilmer; and two granddaughters, Bonnie Gilmer and Karrie Hoffman. She is survived by her brother, Gene Gray and wife, Betty of Santa Fe, NM; her daughter, Carolyn Ogle and husband, Garry, Albuquerque; daughter-in-law, Wanda Gilmer, Boulder, CO; three grandchildren, Jim Geddes and wife, Michelle, Tim Gilmer, and Kathleen Cristiani, husband, David; grandson-in-law, Curt Hoffman and great-grandson, Kyle Gilmer; her brother-in-law, Frank Gilmer, Albuquerque; and several nieces and nephews. She was a longtime member of Garfield Gospel Chapel, but in recent years was attending Calvary Chapel with her daughter, Carolyn. She took over the management of Gray's Flower Shop which was started by her parents. She was a very outgoing and loving person and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Griffin -- Susie Griffin, age 46, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 2, 1998. She worked for Los Alamos County for 25 years. She attended Los Alamos High School, where she graduated in 1970 and met her lifelong love, Gary. Susie was a gifted and talented woman. She enjoyed ceramics, needlepoint, her birds and pets, and giving to her family and friends. She loved to laugh. The family appreciates the love and support of our friends and encourages those who feel a need to contact us. Johnson -- Edward Leroy Johnson, 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949, passed away on September 2, 1998. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Taylor Johnson, a well-known gardener, flower show exhibitor and judge. Also preceding him in death were his parents, Edward D. and Mayme Axelson Johnson of Burlington, Iowa; a sister, Dorothy; and a brother, Richard. He is survived by two sisters, Miriam Morley of Sacramento, CA and Roberta Hall of Fullerton, CA; three nephews and a niece. Locally, he is survived by his wife's niece, Ernestine (Tina) Clark and her husband, Elmer; and a nephew, James P. Roy and his wife, Jan, all of whom have been generous in their attention and support as he became more aged and infirm. Mr. Johnson was retired from Sandia National Laboratories in 1973. He served as treasurer of the Council of Albuquerque Garden Clubs in 1974-75 when the Council was building the Albuquerque Garden Center. He was a member of the Albuquerque Rose Society since 1952 and served as president in 1973-74. He enjoyed his wife's interest in horticulture, her support of flower shows and her judging of local, state and national flower and rose shows. Laughingly he described himself as a"gardener by marriage." Cremation has been carried out by Sunrise Society. His ashes will be interred beside Ruth in the Riverside Cemetery, Loman, MN. Lawson -- Jane L. Lawson, 91, born May 15, 1907 in Ryan, OK, a resident here since 1940, passed away Wednesday. She was preceded in death by her husband, C.C. Lawson; an infant daughter; and two grandchildren. Mrs. Lawson is survived by her children, Chris and Bobbie, Bill and Judy, Troy and Arlene, Alfred and Marie, Donald and Judy, Patsy and Earl; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Dora Wolf in Stockton, CA; many nieces and nephews. Reser -- Rebecca Ann Reser, 24, lifelong resident of Albuquerque, graduate of Cibola High School, passed away September 1, 1998 in an automobile accident near Grants. Sandoval -- Daniel Anthony Sandoval died peacefully with his wife at his side August 29, 1998 in Houston, TX. Born on October 6, 1962 in Albuquerque. He was a resident of Albuquerque until his marriage on October 22, 1997. He worked as a chef for many restaurants in the Albuquerque area. He started his career when he was only 16 years old, working as a chef's helper at the Albuquerque airport. During his career, he worked at Gino's, Nicole's at the Marriott, Hyatt Regency, Artichoke Cafe and Andre's. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Bennie Sandoval. He is survived by his wife, Cristal Sandoval of Houston, TX; his mother, Betty Sandoval of Albuquerque; brothers, Claude Sandoval and wife, Cathy of Albuquerque, Tim Sandoval of Toas, NM, and Leonard Sandoval of Albuquerque; sisters, Ruth Nunez and husband, Henry, Dolores Algire and husband, John, and Loretta Sandoval, all of Albuquerque, and Janis Carbajal and husband, Daniel of Silver City, NM; his Goddaughter, Julia; 18 nieces and nephews; 13 great-nieces and nephews; several aunts and uncles; and many friends. Silva -- Dilia L. Silva, 70, of Torreon, NM, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 1998 in an Albuquerque hospital. She was born January 11, 1928 to Frank and Josefita (Herrera) Lujan in Torreon. She married Manuel Silva February 28, 1953 in Tajique, NM. Mrs. Silva had been a lifetime resident of Torreon and a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, in which she was married to for 45 years, Manuel of the home; one son, James Silva of Albuquerque; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and Dave Kear, Isabel and Ramiro Rodriguez, and Sandra Silva, all of Albuquerque; three brothers, Orlando Lujan of Los Lunas, Fermin Lujan and his wife, Ramona of Albuquerque and Levi Lujan of Torreon; four grandchildren, Manuel and Dustin Kear, Eva Johnson, and Dallas Rodriguez; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Silva was preceded in death by two brothers, Ismael and Ignacio Lujan. Smith -- Joseph M. Smith Jr., 82, the third of five generations of Smith's in New Mexico and a resident of Albuquerque since 1970, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 1998. He is survived by his lovely wife of 53 years, Catherine of Albuquerque; son, Joseph M. Smith III, M.D. and his wife, Patricia of Santa Fe; daughter, Cairn Smith of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Leland, Dustin, Caitlin, and Mitchel. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Smith of Albuquerque; brother, A.W. Smith of Santa Rosa; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Fannie Guy and Faye Hamilton; and brother, Earl Smith. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the US Army. He was a member of Masonic Liberty Lodge #51 A.F.&A.M. and was also active in the Scottish Rite. Mr. Smith was an avid sportsman and golfer. Services will be held Saturday, 1:00 p.m., at Santa Rosa United Methodist Church, 401 4th St., in Santa Rosa, with Rev. Ralph Valdez officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, also in Santa Rosa. Pallbearers will be David Smith, L.J. Smith, Dustin Smith, James Hamilton, Dennis Shiplit, and Jody Smith. Buster Dudrey will serve as honorary pallbearer. Strickland -- Jimmy Strickland, 30, passed away September 2, 1998 in Albuquerque. He graduated from Los Lunas High School. He loved fishing and spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include wife of eight years, Erica; parents, James L. and Annette E. Strickland of Albuquerque; father and mother-in-law, Howard and Sharon Schindler of Albuquerque; mother and father-in-law, Gregory and Marsha Candela of Los Lunas; grandparents, Barbara A. Kaiser of Oregon, Evelyn Hausman of New Jersey and Warren and Jan Candela of Nevada; sister, Evonne Patterson of Albuquerque; sister-in-law, Mary Lane of Albuquerque; brother-in-law, David Schindler of Albuquerque; nephews, Jesse Patterson and K.J. Torres -- Sixto Torres, age 45, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away on August 30, 1998. He is survived by his sons, Sixto J. Wheeler -- William Harold Wheeler passed away on September 1, 1998 in Albuquerque. He was born in Oglesby, TX and served in the US Navy. He married Cleo Springstead in April 1956 in El Paso, TX, where they lived until moving to Albuquerque in 1963. He attended the University of New Mexico, where he studied history-a subject he loved. He worked for the Federal Aviation Administration for 28 years and was an East Area Staff Officer. He was a member of Academy Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, William Alton Wheeler in 1964; and by a son, William Alton Wheeler in 1982. He is survived by his wife, Cleo Wheeler of Albuquerque; a daughter, Melanie D. DeNardis and husband, Gary of Edgewood, NM; a son, Matthew Kirk Wheeler and wife, Pamela of Bernalillo, NM; his mother, Mildred Wheeler of Albuquerque; a brother, Tommy Wheeler and wife, Betty of El Paso, TX; and two grandchildren, Anthony Gary DeNardis and Matthew William DeNardis, both of Edgewood, NM. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., this morning, in the Chapel of Sandia Funeral Care with Rev. Jack Stricklan of Community Bible Fellowship officiating. Burial will follow the service in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
