Carter -- Anna Frances Davalos Carter, a native of New Mexico, passed away early Sunday morning, March 29, 1998, after a painful struggle with lung cancer. She is survived by her husband, Ray; son, Mike Goodwin; daughters, Cyndi Goodwin and Alyson Kite and husband, Lindsey; sister, Terry Oehm and husband, Hank, all residents of Albuquerque; brother, Jeff and wife, Jo of Tucson, AZ; stepchildren, Becky, Alan, Barbara, and Ray; grandchildren, Jennifer Martinez of Fort Collins, CO, and Brooke Cromwell of Albuquerque; great-grandchild, Joey of Albuquerque; niece, Elena Giacci and husband, Gary; nephew, David Giacci; dog, Mulligan and cats, Wesley and Aggie Doone, also residents of Albuquerque. Although born in Tularosa, Mrs. Carter lived all of her life in Albuquerque. She loved to collect matchbooks, but her passion was collecting owls--her home is a testament to this collection. Mrs. Carter was a loving wife and mother, a good friend, and will be missed by all who knew her. Chavez -- Diosinita"Josie" Chavez, 67, passed away Saturday, March 28, 1998 at her home in Socorro, NM. She was born November 24, 1930 to Emilio and Maria (Chavez) Jojola in Val Verde, NM. Jenks -- John"Pappy Jack Jenks, 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1960, died Friday, March 27, 1998. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elda V. Jenks of the family home; daughter, Linda L. Owen and husband, Donald C. of Texas; granddaughter, Crystal L. Owen of Texas; and niece, Shirley Brady of San Diego, CA. John was born June 2, 1913, in Jessup, IA. He entered the United States Navy at the age of 17 on August 17, 1930. During his time in the Navy, he served on four 4-Pipers, 1100 Ton Class Destroyers and also The USS Downs, The USS Warrington, The USS Sumner, and The USS Wedderburn. He retired from the Navy on February 19, 1957, with a rank of Chief Torpedoman after 26 years of service. John was a charter member of The Warren G. Harding Masonic Lodge in Paulsbo, WA and also a member of the D.A.V. Post 3 in Albuquerque. He was a hard working, kind and loving man who took care of his family and his country. He will be missed. Graveside services will be Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at 1:00 p.m. at The Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM with Col. Lemuel Boyles officiating. Maldonado -- Bernadino (Bennie) Maldonado 58, a resident of Albuquerque passed away Saturday in a local hospital. Mr. Maldonado was born April 12, 1939 in Escabosa, NM to Pablo and Floripa Maldonado. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Helen of the family home; one son, Robert and wife, Tersita; two daughters, Theresa Gurule and husband, Matthew, Bernadette Maldonado; two granddaughters Danielle, and Sara Gurule. Also surviving are eight brothers, Louie, Morris and wife, Angie, Johnny and wife, Bobbie, Luciano, Porfilio and wife, Lydia, Ernest, Paul and wife, Patsy, and Florian Maldonado; one sister-in-law, Eva Bernal and husband, Ernest. He will be greatly missed. Visitation will be today from 6:00 p.m. till time of the Rosary which will be recited at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Marquez -- Elmer Herman Marquez Jr., 33 years young, beloved son of Mr. Elmer Marquez Sr. and Rosemary P. Valdez, suddenly passed away on Saturday, March 28, 1998. Elmer was preceded in death by his grandmother, Isabel Padilla and step-father, Ruben Valdez and is survived by his children, Rosella Marquez, Daniel Marquez, Elmer Marquez III and Michael Paul Marquez; as well as his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Marquez and Mr. Carmel Padilla Sr. Elmer is also survived by his brother, Alejandro and his wife, Melina; and sisters, Michele, Rubiane and Doborah and husband, Manuel. Elmer had numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and many friends that loved him and will miss him very much. Montoya -- George"Coy" Montoya, 67, a resident of Albuquerque for two years, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998. He is survived by his sister, Rafelita Ulibarri of Patterson City, CA; brother, Dan Montoya and wife, Marie of Raton; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Mr. Montoya was born in Albuquerque, but spent a great deal of his life in Los Angeles, CA. He was a veteran of the Korean War, where he served as a medic. Mr. Montoya was a hard-working man and worked for three major race tracks in the Los Angeles area. A prayer service will be held Sunday, 5:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Pastor Ramon Cano officiating. Services will be held Monday, 10:00 a.m., at Iglesia Adventista del Septimo Dia, 5200 Iliff Rd. NW, with Pastor Ramon Cano officiating. Perea -- Gilbert Abad Perea, from a prominent pioneering New Mexico family, passed away Thursday morning, March 26, 1998, after a long illness. To his friends, he was known as"El Guero." Gilbert was born and raised in Corrales to Adelaida Palladini Perea and Abenicio Crollett Perea of Corrales. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Pablito, Abenicio and Pedro; and by his sisters, Serafina, Desolina, Amalia, Adela, and Olibama. He is survived by his brother, Juan and his sisters, Annie, Balbina and Priscilla; as well as his children and grandchildren. A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 1998, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church in Bernalillo. Sanchez -- Mr. Tom A. Sanchez, age 58, died Friday. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Maynes; sons, Thomas A. and wife, Loretta R. Sanchez, Timothy A. and wife, Lori A.; daughter, Debra D. Schiff -- Congressman Steve Schiff, 51, a resident of Albuquerque since 1969, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Marcia; children, Jaimi and Daniel; mother, Helen Bjerke of Oceanside, CA; brothers, Maurice Schiff and wife, Sharon of West Hills, CA, and Gordon Schiff of Chicago, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews. Congressman Schiff received his B.A. in Political Science at the University of Illinois in Chicago in 1968, and his J.D. at the University of New Mexico Law School in 1972. He was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives since 1989. He served as District Attorney of Bernalillo County from 1981-1988; was Assistant Albuquerque City Attorney and Counsel for Albuquerque Police and Fire Departments 1979-1981; was a trial attorney in private practice; and previously was Assistant District Attorney of Bernalillo County 1972-1977. Congressman Schiff served in the NM Air National Guard over 20 years, and retired in 1997 as a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He was a member of Civitan International, the Fraternal Order of Police, was a former President of the Albuquerque Lodge of B'nai B'rith, and was a member of Congregation Albert for over 25 years. Services will be held Monday, March 30, 1998, at 10:00 a.m., at Congregation Albert, 3800 Louisiana Blvd. NE, with Rabbi Joseph R. Black officiating. Interment will follow at Congregation Albert Cemetery, Fairview Memorial Park, 700 Yale SE, Albuquerque, NM. Snell -- Roy L."Pete" Snell, 70, an Albuquerque resident since 1951, died Thursday, March 26, 1998.
